So glad I saw this! I've never heard anyone explain why they press to the side vs open. Thank you!

I use the Oliso iron on my wool pressing mat every day, and have for a number of years with no problems.

Thank you for the tips. You are right about patterns. I find that i get better results when i take the time to press . I followed the pressing directions on the RBC 2022 and had good results. I use my Oliso iron with my wool mat on wool setting and I rest it off the mat.

Thank you! Incorrect pressing has really caused some problems for me. I just have to slow down and do it right.

Thanks much for your tips. Actually, I have seen the clapper being used, clapping on seams: up & down repeatedly, making the clap-clap sounds... to get wool or felted wool seams flatter; then left on the seam for better flatness.

Yes I have seen some people use the clapper that why, and I bet it is helpful.

I very much enjoy your videos and have learned much from them. Thanks for all you do to make the quilting process better! But I disagree with you on one point. I don’t think it is correct that when you press your seams to one side, all the tension is on the fabric. The tension is ALWAYS on the threads, no matter which way you press the seams. The threads are the ONLY thing holding the two pieces of fabric together. The advantage to pressing seams in one direction is that if there is tension on the seam causing it to pull apart and make a gap (hole as you put it), when you look into the gap, you will see fabric instead of batting. It may also cause the seams themselves to sit slightly lower, thus protecting them against snagging and wear. But the tension is 100% on the threads.

Would you consider doing a video on good handling and pressing techniques when working with bias, and piecing triangles. I’ve cut and sewn accurately but my HST’s and flying geese come out wonky.

Please define the word you used several times: substrate. ..

Hi Nancy...RBD responded, but it simply means a different type of fabric that is constructed with different fibers...like linen or knits-which has added spandex
