❤😊 Thank U Tracy, My Hubby's was walking in room, and said "What is Tracy doing Today" Got his Eye too 😘 I'm getting back into, Geez Louis why is Everything so $$$ Oh My Goodness, a shocking cost... I gave Everything away, were retired, so it will be a bit, before I can do Your big Quilting, Learning and Hubby's getting into it too!! Keep Rocking Life Beautifully ❤😊
Love all your hacking ideas. I'm a beginner quilter and still trying to get my quilting area set up. Having RA and waiting for spine surgery, hip and knee replacements, I often thought I wouldn't be able to get started but I've been watching Tiffany here on TH-cam since the beginning of this year. I've learned so much from all of you ladies and gents visually that I am excited about getting started. I appreciate everything each one of you share. We are definitely a community here, more than the one I live in, lol. I love the challenge and hope to grow. So thank you very much because now that I've found your channel as well I'm learning even more ❤
Thank you so much for sharing Tiffany’s hot glue tip for our rulers! I plugged my hot glue gun in the minute your video was over and I am AMAZED!! The glue lays so thin and works so GREAT!!!!!! Thank you Thank you!
Sometimes I have one of the layers just a smidge longer and if I put the longer one on the bottom next to the feed dog it easily takes it up for me. I know if I was perfect that wouldn’t happen though! Lol
Oh Girlfriend, I love those hacks! The washy tape one blew my mind! I have that same edge issue and so does the class I teach. Tracy they are going to love you for the washy tape and the absolutely never ever thought of hot glue dots on the ruler! PS THANK YOU TO TIFFANY ALSO! Tracy, I have a class in the morning and I can’t wait to tell them the new things you have taught me! Oh I should say us subs, but you know...I always think you are just talking to me! LoL
That's because I am just talking to you Glenda LOL😂 If you don't have washi tape you can always use blue painter's tape!✅ Those hot glue dots are a total game changer!!!! I will be adding the glue to all my larger rulers too ....soon!
I think my local Harbor Freight ran out of the right angle ratchet screwdrivers within a week, because I told my entire sewing guild about them!!! What a great little tool. Thanks Tracy!
For tip 3, you can layer several pieces of tape (I use painters tape) and it creates a ledge similar to the magnet. I have also used post it notes. Thanks for the awesome video!
Thank you I have been watching quilting videos for about a month now I've never made a quilt I have a few supplies but something as simple as cutting material my ruler was all over the place thank you I really appreciate what you're teaching me 💖😁
I've also used a Post-It note pad -- either the 3 x 3 or the 3 x 5 -- as a seam guide in place of a magnet. Just take the protective back off the pad and stick it to the sewing machine bed at your desired distance from the needle. The thickness of the pad then becomes the guide. I also use a carpenter's measuring tape (the kind that rolls up and the case clips to a belt) to help me measure my quilts. They're pretty rigid, they lock in place, and even the small ones go to at least 10 feet, so measuring a queen or king quilt is much easier.
WONDERFUL tips...I'll remember to thank Tiffany, too! ~ LOVED and NEEDED that one! I ordered a few of the items from your Amazon list...excellent video!
flip carpenter ruler .... I just steal hubby's 25 foot tape roll up ruler .... easier to hide in my sewing notions .... but now we have two of them I can use.
Thanks for the hot glue tip. I tried this before (with the hot glue) but did not like the huge uneven bumps….now I will do it again and press the glue flat! Thank you!!
I just finished hot glueing all the dots on ALL my rulers today✅ I was testing them out after and I just can’t believe how well it works. I’m absolutely stunned. I don’t think I will need to use a weight anymore on my long rulers either because the rulers just don’t budge!!!✅
Hello and great tips! I had a busy but fun day in my sewing room and now I get to sit with my hand quilting and watch your video! I'm so grateful for your time to make this. I hope you have a delightful week ahead! Thank you for sharing!
You are fabulous. I never click on the description box. I did today to see if you put a link to Tiffany from Tiffany’s quilting life. I realized that you had a time stamp for every tip. I love that. If I refer back and can know exactly where to go. Thank you. I know that’s extra work.
Fantastic hacks 😊 And the cool thing is... most supplies can be found at the Dollar Tree in the craft section is the double sided tape and washy tape, the home section has the command wall hooks. And they sell glue guns and glue too 😄 I also have a old wooden fold up ruler. They are great 😊 Great video Tracy ❤️
Thanks Tiffany! I knew you'd like the tweak! The glue is so "flush" on that ruler and it literally does not move on the fabric!!! Such an incredible game changer.....I can't wait to add all the glue dots to my BIG rulers...possibly won't need a weight on the ruler anymore🤷🏻♀️
I love the “built in” grip on creative grids rulers and prefer it to anything else I’ve tried, but-the command hook hack!! YESSS!!! My hands get so achy and swollen. That’s an awesome tip. Just trying to figure out storage now because I currently stack them all on top of each other.
Hi Tracy, I love your hacks. I suddenly need to go to the dollar tree. 🤣🤣 I love the hook and command sticky because I can’t pick up my rulers and boy I hear you loud and clear on the arthritis pain man, I have it too. Heck, all your hacks including the one from Tiffany. I’ve got to try that one also. Thanks for sharing these helpful tips, they are much appreciated. Have a wonderful weekend, 🥰 Chris
You are so welcome Chris...the hooks have been a big game changer for me because of the arthritis. The hot glue on the rulers is another big deal for me....the technique really does make the rulers adhere in an amazing way✅
I've used a glue stick when doing roll over binding and it works great. Why I've not used used it for regular binding, I do not know. Great idea! Where has that double sided quilting tape been? I've never seen that. Wow! It would good for so many things. Really great hacks. Thank you!
OMG Tracy I have had that exact magnetic thing in a drawer for years and had no clue what it was for. Got it with a bucket of sewing stuff at a garage sale. I just bought a little magnetic guide on Amazon. Lol I can't believe it. 🙉
Thank you for all the information, my dad was a plumber and used that carpenters ruler all the time I love them for measuring better then any measuring tape. Thank you again.
1/4" Seam Guide Trick: go to the Dollar Store, and purchase a pkg. of the sticky felted furniture feet protectors... the one that is just a large square where you can cut to your own desired shape... or the multi pkg. which as long oblong pieces... I stick those onto my sewing machine plate right butted up against my 1/4" foot... the sticky pad is long, and extends towards me, giving me a longer area to butt up my fabric and run it along.
I do have a few problems with that 1/4” seam and have tried lots-of ways to help. I don’t like the little guard thingie in some 1/4” feet - so I’ve got some washes tape around (bought it because it was pretty! Not a scrapbooked at all!) and I’ll give that one a try - and I can just carefully slice the tape where it crosses my accessories box that is always attached. Another one for the binding - love the two you showed (I do hand bind😃) but sewing is so much faster for charity quilts. A very long time ago a very well known appliquer (she has to machine everything as she cannot do handwork) uses small drops of good old WASHABLE Elmer’s White School Glue! And then presses it to dry quickly. It’s fabulous and works like a charm. I’ve also used it in place of a certain very expensive glue for quilters and Elmer’s is cheap!!! Did you know that white glue is just starch and water? That’s why this one washes out - must use washable Elmer’s!!! Love all your videos!!💓💓
That last hack was interesting to me. I‘ve been reversing that for a long time. I have them everywhere because of my work. So when I sew I measure everything with one of those carpenter’s rulers and if something isn’t straight I take a string lay it along the curve, take the endpoint and then just lay it straight next to my ruler to get the length.

Love the tip for bindings, wish I watched this last week, I made hot pads for Xmas gifts & had a heck of a time I got it done but would have saved some aggrevasion
Very common problem. I plan to try the tape. I just ordered the magnetic seam guide two days ago. I am so happy you showed me how to use it. Look out seams, I am ready for you now.
We have Tiffany to thank for that glue hack! It really is a game changer Kris...much better than those true dots! Happy quilting my quilty bestie! LOL😂
If you really don’t want to use the magnetic seam guide you can get a package of the longer Post-it notes and divided into several stacks and just line those up where you need them to be for your Seam allowance. That way you can bring them on down the front of the machine and make sure you’re feeding it in at the exact distance also. I find it really helpful to me to know that I’m feeding them in exactly right. Great video thank you so much!
Thank you for these ideas, I used the dots at the back of the rulers and they do ruck up the fabric, but I have a weakness in my right arm and I'm left handed, so that's the hand that holds the ruler - I shall definitely use the glue idea. I wavered between position 6.0 and 6.5 for the perfect 1/4"seam, so I cut 3 x 2" strips and sewed them together and measured; 6.0 made a perfect 5" width. Love all these ideas and shall look for more of your hacks.
I have the magnet but don't always use it. Also, the binding tape is in my sewing box, bought it many years ago when I thought I was ready to learn to quilt Forgot I had it. I'm going to try the glue on the rulers. Thank you!
Thanks so much for the wonderful hacks. I wish I had seen the binding hack a couple of days ago, I am definitely going to get some glue. I loved all your other hacks too especially about the rulers slipping, I have rheumatoid Arthritis and was thinking that I will have to stop making quilts soon as my cutting is inaccurate because I cannot hold down my rulers, weights have helped but the rulers still slip occasionally. I have now subscribed as I do not want to miss any of your genius hacks. I am also going to do a binge watch of all your other videos now😁😅
I love that you get right into the tutorials and thank you for sharing . Who doesn't love a handy hack ? I feel I should mention that the magnetic seam guide was made for sewing machines, but it was made for mechanical machines not electronic. It could also cause a magnetic pull on metal bobbins My dad was in the sewing industry for 50 years before he passed and he always clarified this for customers. I love the glue dot hack! I just bought some strips for my rulers and I like this idea so much better!
Thank you so much Wendy for mentioning the metal seam guide with metal bobbins...I hadn't thought of that.✅ Everyone should always check with their manufacturer too about using the metal seam guide...thank you for reminding us...I appreciate it very much💛
@@TheSewingChannel I checked with top sewing machine repairman and the company's of my 2 different brand machines. All said the same thing, it will not hurt them. All the electronics are in the head and not in the base. I have used magnetic guides for almost 4 years on all 5 of my machines and have not had a single problem with any, and they are used everyday. In fact 2 of my machines the guides stays on them. I was told by one of the company repair guys, not to put them on the head when not in use. He said he didn't think that it would cause a problem, but just to be safe. Mow for the metal bobbins, I didn't ask about that and I didn't think about asking because none of my machines use them. I would have thought if there was they might have mentioned it, but none did. I hoped that helped a little bit. And great videos, thank you.
Love hot glue on ruler. Just bought a few square rulers this weekend and didn't think the glue dots worked too well, now I have a solution. I have been using masking tape for measuring for years and thought everyone knew, but I have loads of washy tape so will use that now. Tip to thread machine needle when needle threader is broken and you can't work out how to fit new one-- put Piece white paper behind needle so that you can see the hole. Thanks Tracy for all those "hacks". Just had to explain to jy elderly husband what a hack is!!
I was sitting here minding my own business, and checking out the videos on TH-cam when I came across your helpful video. Guess what, I am off to the Dollar store. I also love the helpful comments 😊 that other watchers make. Keep up the good work. I subscribed.
Your carpenters tape is a good idea, i have used a metal Stanley extension measure for some time now. Much better than the dressmaker tape measure. I like the 2 sided sticky idea. Thanks for sharing

On the first tip - I would simply flip things over so the seams are laying on top where I can see and guide them the direction I want them to go.

I have the magnet but don't always use it. Also, the binding tape is in my sewing box, bought it many years ago when I thought I was ready to learn to quilt Forgot I had it. I'm going to try the glue on the rulers. Thank you!
The glue gun hack was a game changer! Thanks, Tracy 😊
I know! I hope more people realize it Marisa...it's a crazy gamechanger!✅
Thanks so much for the wonderful hacks. I wish I had seen the binding hack a couple of days ago, I am definitely going to get some glue. I loved all your other hacks too especially about the rulers slipping,
I have rheumatoid Arthritis and was thinking that I will have to stop making quilts soon as my cutting is inaccurate because I cannot hold down my rulers, weights have helped but the rulers still slip occasionally. I have now subscribed as I do not want to miss any of your genius hacks. I am also going to do a binge watch of all your other videos now😁😅
Welcome to The Sewing Channel Margaret! The Ruler hacks will definitely help your arthritis… It did mine!💛
Hi Tracy. Great tips
Glad it was helpful Nancy💛
Love hot glue on ruler. Just bought a few square rulers this weekend and didn't think the glue dots worked too well, now I have a solution. I have been using masking tape for measuring for years and thought everyone knew, but I have loads of washy tape so will use that now. Tip to thread machine needle when needle threader is broken and you can't work out how to fit new one-- put Piece white paper behind needle so that you can see the hole. Thanks Tracy for all those "hacks". Just had to explain to jy elderly husband what a hack is!!
Lol 😂 hopefully your hubby understands now! So funny!
I love the washi tape and the glue stick havks. Keep em coming. Thanks!!
Thanks for the great feedback Pam! have an awesome weekend!🌸
Your tips are so helpful❣️ I found the dissolving tape long ago & it is THE BEST!
I was sitting here minding my own business, and checking out the videos on TH-cam when I came across your helpful video. Guess what, I am off to the Dollar store. I also love the helpful comments 😊 that other watchers make. Keep up the good work. I subscribed.
Awesome Muriel👍🏼🎊 so glad you found my channel too!!!💛
Your carpenters tape is a good idea, i have used a metal Stanley extension measure for some time now. Much better than the dressmaker tape measure. I like the 2 sided sticky idea. Thanks for sharing
You’re welcome Carol✅
I have never seen your channel but through desperation (another 'one woman band' here!) I looked for how-to baste with pool noodles and your video popped up. Not only do you make the process simple but your other hacks are really helpful! Your content is excellent and I immediately subscribed.
