    I think it’s funny to have a vintage style diver from a brand with no vintage history, yet they’ve managed to do it better than everyone else. All the versions of the divers 65 are extremely well done.
    I guess I’m in the minority, but I like the 9 o’clock logo. Seems natural to read from left to right, and looks a little different from everyone else.

      If you’re referring to this watch , it’s no diver. It’s taking heavy inspiration from the Civilian Pilot/GMT watches of the 1950s and 60s such as the Glycine Airman and the Rolex GMT mentioned in the video. By “pilot” watch I am making a clear distinction from the so called Flieger watches with roots in the 1940s Luftwaffe. These later aviation watches arose from the need during the postwar years - where civilian air travel was becoming much more popular and pilots developed the need to track multiple time zones. Eventually this led to the international convention of tracking all international flights using Greenwich Mean Time. Sorry for the long winded explanation, but yea, this is no diver, it’s an aviation watch.

      @@stuartcole4845 The history lesson is nice, but Christopher Ward considers their C65 GMT as part of their dive watch line. It’s more of a dive watch with a GMT complication included.

    • @stuartcole4845
      @stuartcole4845 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sterlingsilver320 I get what you’re saying but the GMT hand and lack of dive time bezel make it unusable as an actual diver. But yea, it’s their watch, they can market it however they like!

    one of the most gorgeous watches this year, I don't know what all the fuss with the logo is about. Personally I like them both, old and new.

    Just received my Trident C60 for my 18th birthday, I absolutely love it. The logo isnt an issue for me and I prefer it to a Longines or a Tag. The quality is second to none and I cannot wait for another purchase, possibly a Khaki King from Hamilton.

    I first came across the Christopher Ward brand when I saw one of their adverts in an in-flight magazine - and I immediately coveted their C65 Retro Dive Watch. 6 months later, one of these is one my wrist and it is one of the most treasured watches in my modest collection.

    I wish it had the CHR. WARD at the top. I can’t do the name on the 9 o’clock position. I know, it’s picky, but I like what I like.

    I have No. 0031 on an oyster bracelet and I have been wearing it for about a week now. I love it. While I don't particularly love the 9 o'clock logo I got use to it rather quickly and I'm glad that I did not let it deter me from buying this watch - I would have been missing out on a good thing. This is a very eloquent piece with very practical functionlity. My daily dress ranges from business suits to business casual to jeans and flannels and this watch works with all of it, as most automatic dive watches would. My normal go to watches are a Hamilton Khaki Field automatic at 40mm, a Hamilton Khaki Scuba automatic at 40mm, and a Marathon GSAR automatic on the weekends. My wrist size is just shy of 7" and I had to remove three links from the bracelet on the C65 GMT which uses a pin and collar system and there are five micro-adjustments in the buckle which allow adjustment without a tool. With the shape of the case, the sloped lugs, sloped bezel, and domed crystal the fit is wonderful, better than could have expected! While I could afford a heritage luxury brand I work in the public sector in human services, primarily with homeless veterans, and I think it would be tone deaf to walk around with a Rolex (although I do like the Explorer II) or an Omega when I working with guys that are worried about their next meal or where they are going to spend the night. With this watch I can have it both ways, the look and feel of a luxury piece without the luxury name brand or stigma. And its still a watch that the enthusiasts among us can appreciate. Thank you TGV for the review and thank you C.W. for making this piece!

      Well, just make it smaller. If it was a well respected and known watch brand it would not be a problem I think. They will get there eventually if they keep producing great pieces and then this will be a non issue if not a bonus. Their logo is great though so I’m not sure why they don’t promote it more. I think it might be a PR stunt to get the name out there.

    • @thirddraft5318
      @thirddraft5318 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is true but I see it as an opportunity to talk to others about the brand, and this particular watch, and explain that is is not a Daniel Wellington or Michael Kors and why. But most watch enthusiasts are going to know this already.

  • @themightysquid

    So true TGV. CW continuously nails it! I own the Trident c60 gmt blk/blk 38mm center logo, the c60 blk/blk 40mm (sword hands), and the c60 blk/red bezel 38mm(sword hands). It would be hard to find a better value per dollar for watches near the $1000 range. The quality is on par with any luxury watches I own and they are some of the most beautiful pieces I’ve seen. The red bezel c60 is absolutely mesmerizing. If you’re contemplating a watch in this price range I suggest you look into these. As you read the comments you’ll notice that CW owners are very loyal to the brand and that’s by no coincidence. You really need to own one to fully appreciate them. And although I like the center logo with London written, I don’t have a problem with the new logo. It actually does balance the dial against the date window and does give a more contemporary look to the watch. Any issues with the location/font are quickly dismissed once you start wearing it.

    Agree with your main gripes with the watch: the logo (sigh...) and the unidirectional bezel. My GMTs have bidirectional bezels - 48 click on the Avenger II, 60 click on the 857 UTC - *huge* reason I love these pieces. Another good & honest review, stay well my friend.

      Xaviera Yayaell Not sure why people are so against this change. I prefer this to a kind of cheesy look of the old. I get your point about fashion brand and I think it should be more subtle (smaller font or better accented flag and no or minimal text). To me this looks more modern and not trying to scream pretend vintage like before. I miss London text thought but I do understand that having Swiss made and London might be confusing. One of the best reviews out there, actually talking about the merits of the watch as well as how it performs in the real world. Like the reviewer, I also thought I wanted a 38 mm as a good alternative to the Explorer. Really hope CW is reading this and takes this in consideration, I'd be first in line to buy a 38 mm version of this watch (and yes, they need to keep the GMT functionality).

    Appreciate this is a older video TGV, but after seeing this and doing my own diligence. I recently picked up the C60 elite and my what a watch for the money. Great work, all the best 👍

    Their new in-house movement is really quite impressive for the price. I've been going back and forth these last 4 weeks about getting one right now -- there are a few pieces that I REALLY like. However, my Halios Seaforth finally arrived (after having waited many months for it) so I'm not sure I want to go with another smaller brand at the moment. I also want to replace the Omega speedmaster I am selling with another Omega. So, I decided to save the money, wait for another paycheck, and get the omega Railmaster with the silver dial :) I've been lusting over it for a while now, and I can't wait to pull the trigger! C-Ward is coming after that though! Thanks for the review, TGV! Amazing job as always, good sir!

I have four of them, but my favorite has to be the Lido, which I picked up as a forum special edition. It's brilliant. I just sent it back for service. In case anyone wonders, they really do have excellent service with a very personal touch. I'm glad that you give them some time, here, because I think they're dreadfully under-appreciated. They went bananas with too many models and variations for awhile, there, but they have slimmed down the lineup and I think the design vision is a lot more focused.

Yes, I don't like the re-branding as well but as you said it's not a deal breaker for me. What I adore about CW is their very realistic pricing as well as the attention to detail. The crown, the finishing, the quick release strap, the buckle... a lot of things you don't even get on higher end pieces that cost five times more! If you're interested in buying one, subscribe to their newsletter. They send out voucher codes up to 150€ (!) every few months. With them you can save even more money to get one of those beauties!
    I just hope they will find their unique style in the future and don't only produce watches that satisfy societies current taste.

IMO the GMT hand should be more subtle than the hour hand, one that you ignore when you just check the time. A black hand with a little lume dot in the end, for example. That case and case back are nice, and the domed glass fits the watch well.

    Beautiful watch, TGV, and reasonably priced. Love the bezel! I think it is bi-directional because it is not a dedicated dive watch. It is a sport/dress watch. Thanks for the review :-)

    • @MrEmbangweni
      @MrEmbangweni 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      no, am not sure I understand your explanation regarding the bezel. The issue is that the bezel is NOT bi-directional. It is uni-directional, like all the Christopher Ward Trident dive watches. So if this watch is not a dive watch, specifically, what needs to be explained is why they have maintained a unidirectional bezel.

    I really like the look of this watch! It appears to be wonderfully designed. That case! I also agree with you - I prefer the older logo, which included 'London'. I feel you should be proud of your heritage and your tribe. Wear your banner proudly, for all the World to see!

    Glad to see Christopher Ward finally getting some well deserved bolstering. This watch is definitely my next purchase from CW. A note about London no longer on the dial. CW himself said in an interview that as they moved their headquarters out of the city, they didn't feel it was appropriate to use it any longer. At least they are honest, and cognizant of not misrepresenting the brand in any way, which is big plus for them as well in my opinion.

    I’m digging the fact that Christopher ward is a British watch brand. I’m happy to see brands like this and bremont starting to catch on. I’m really looking to buy a bremont after a Tudor I’m saving for. Time to bring back some good horological brands to make up for the last 100 years of Swiss dominance. We all love a little competition 😉

  • @BatMayer

    Add me into the "love it, but the branding is a deal-breaker" crowd. They make a stunning 38mm blue dial bronze diver that I'd buy in a heartbeat if it weren't for the logo.

    • @BatMayer
      @BatMayer 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Christopher Wood -MDH- That would make it their loss. If I don't like it, even for just one shortcoming, I don't lose anything when I don't buy. They lose a sale. It would be my loss if I bought it and wasn't happy every time I looked at the logo, knowing I could have spent the money on something else.

Perhaps I'll wait for the Pepsi version which is due to be out next year. I have Gen 1, Gen 2 and Geb 3 logo CWs and I don't mind the current version at all. Thanks for another great review TGV. Very tempted by this watch. Beautiful design. Lovely strap. High quality at a fair price. 41mm would normally be too big for me but the short lugs mean it would work. Only real negative, as it is for a number of their watches, is that Christopher Ward text at 9 o'clock. Who thought that was a good move in their rebranding meeting? Oh, and being a Brit (southerner), I too would like to see London still feature on the dial :-)

I love less than 40mm watches especially divers, but there aren't that many "affordable" ones around (affordable in quotation marks because I know it's a very subjective term). This is so frustrating.. I've been looking for a new watch for ages and this one finally ticks all the boxes. But I just can't get over that logo. There is nothing appealing about a logo that looks like it has been created in 5 seconds by opening Word and selecting a random font. It's a shame. They have great watches otherwise. Great video, I do agree that if they had 38mm this watch would be great although if they do 38mm wouldn't watch be too bulky? Im torn between C.Ward trident diver or Sinn 104's especially they just released a blue dialed 104s!. Thanks for the review

      Hmmmm, well I have to say Sinn, but you know I am very biased there as a 104 owner. I will be addressing the blue 104 soon in fact.. As for the bulkiness of a 38mm, as it is 12mm, I think it would actually be fine, then again, in the flesh it could be a whole different story. Good luck with your decision. Either way, it's win win and it goes without saying, you have great taste ;-)

    I know it’s a YAWN, but CW’s rebranding was a bloody awful mistake IMHO. It abased otherwise sensational watches to the aesthetic level of “fashion” brands - common as muck. Asymmetric, fairground grab-crane commonplace tedium.

    • @10secondsrule

      Not sure why people are so against this change.
