I've owned a Trident pro 43mm MK2 for 3 years. I get countless comments on it every time I wear it. The feeling of quality you get when you wear is is something I haven't had with a watch costing under 5k. It miles a head of something even such as an Oris or Squale. Mine is the first to have the logo at the 9pm position, and it almost prevented me from buying it, but I'm so glad it didn't because I absolutely love it and can't see me ever getting rid of it, God knows it's gonna last me a life time.

I think I've indirectly benefited from this review: CW sent round a 'sale' email a couple of weeks ago and I picked up the last of the MkII C60 Trident Pro 600 38mm for just under half price. It is a stunning watch (a few minor differences from the one you review in the video, but certainly not $500 worth of upgrades). The MkII feels every bit the $1000 watch you describe. You weren't joking Jody - this is a hell of a watch for the money.
I love the left-right balance used to watch as well as the nearly invisible logo, I think that because that balancing is different, you need that little bit of space somewhere and I think up top is perfect. And just in case it's a problem and is to empty, and there's still that logo there. I think it's perfect.
I had the 38mm MK2 version and like this one more. More modern design. I even like the logo design now they have added the flags at 12 (the C65 GMT I now have has an embossed logo which works even better). Christoper Ward make excellent watches.
My C60 Trident COSC has a day complication as well and this balances out the dial perfectly. As for the on the fly bracelet adjustment I have no issues with it, works beautifully...fantastic watch all round.
“Christopher Ward” is better than their previous attempts at branding: Chris Ward, ChrWard, C Ward (aka C word aka see you next Tuesday) Great watches, awful name
I don’t understand the hate with the identity/logo. As a designer I love where CW have arrived. The elephant in the room for me on the new trid3nt divers is that ridiculous sword hour hand. Proportions really not doing doing it for me personally. Great review though, thanks!
Had mine a few years. The watch is absolutely outstanding, and the best watch in my collection. That said, I don't own anything more expensive. The previous logo was far nicer though, and I don't know why they changed it.
I love this brand. I have a red bezel 42mm Trident Pro 600 and 38mm vintage Trident Pro 600. I was able to get both for under $800 Canadian dollars each.
@Brenton Edwards same with the Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic open heart. Beautiful timepiece, but branding has no elegance. Even the font and size choice are just damn uninspiring. Even undergraduate multimedia arts students can create so much better than these brands did. I can't believe they can't even find or pay someone with expertise/taste/style in design and branding. These lazy branding designs make me puke. Too bad since the timepiece themselves are really good.
Thanks for representing a lot of us who feel the same way! It doesnt have the same appeal as "Patek Philippe" just not a cool name and my name is Christopher myself 🤣
Just purchased this watch (38mm) and it’s outstanding. It looks stunning and you’d think it was more expensive than it is. I have a 17cm wrist and struggled to find a dive/sports watch that doesn’t make me look like a 10 year old wearing his dads watch but this has done the job perfectly. Can’t fault it.
Hey Jamie, I have a 16 cm wrist and I’m trying to decide between the 38mm and the 40mm black dial variant. How do you feel about the 38mm one month after your purchase?
Cracking review. I can confirm what Rikki said about the bezel research, as CW himself told us at The a Edinburgh meet a few weeks before launch. He referenced the Rolex Submariner as having the best action and sound, so that’s what they aimed for. Such a shame they’re getting a lot of bad QC and customer service issues just now, as they do produce great watches, which punch well above their weight.
Christopher Ward seems like a great brand at the price point... 60 month warranty on the movement! The finishing reminds me of what you find on most Tudors. I particularly like the C65 blue dial Dartmouth Series. Looks a lot like a Seamaster 300.
Had to use the warranty at 4 years. Great experience working with CW. They provided free air shipping from California back to England. Had the watch back in 7 weeks.
I have 2 CW Trident Pro (Mark II) myself and I have gotten plenty of compliments off them. CW is grossly underrated and congrats on your first CW! Am looking at one of the Trident GMT model.. still thinking over if I should pull the trigger. Keep up the great Vlogs 👍
Yes.Yes. Yes. Jody, I had almost given up on a C. Ward review from you so many thanks for this. There does seem to be a touch of snobbery around the brand until reviewers get one on the wrist and even poor Adrian over at Bark and Jack found himself spluttering some compliments into his coffee when he reviewed similar. That was a bit of a wow moment. I am the very proud owner of a Trident 300 quartz 38mm which my wife bought me and I love it. The craftsmanship is simply gorgeous and the watch sits beautifully on my smallish wrist. It really is a joy to wear. I can only guess at what you have received. Pound for pound I think C. Ward offer probably the best value on the market and no question their after sales service is number one. Certainly, the logo is contentious and it gave me the jitters initially but after many hours on the wrist I have to say it is no longer an issue. I do agree though that the iteration has not yet reached its apotheosis. A wonderful review, giving a lovely watch the time and attention it deserves. Thank you.
I've enjoyed the c60 and c65 cw's. This c60 mk3 is the best. The case is really nicely done and the bracelet's quick attach/removal and easy micro adjust has not been an issue. May be the best sub $1k modern diver. The logo does not bother me at all. I'm just waiting for more colors.. i would love the new white dial black bezel option they have on the 42mm version in the 40mm as well.
CW rocks - I have the former generation in blue, 43mm - the case and dial finishing is the best I've ever seen on any watch sub 1k - I mean, under the loop even the polishing looks like glass. Really impressive and fantastic style.
Nice looking watch, super sharp! My favourite C. Ward though is the C65 Trident GMT, it's pretty much perfect in every way in my opinion. Can't be beat for around a grand!
Excellent review Jody as always, I bought one of these with the cranberry colored bezel 3 months ago and absolutely love it, it fits in my rotation with my Omega SMP, my Breitling Superocean and my Seikos
Tempting ... but at approx 1,000 dollars (for me in my shopping preferences) the real competition is an Oris Aquis on sale or via one of the NYC gray market websites for $ 900-$1200 new. The warranty is very impressive and look is very clean. I would see it being a contender at 500-600 but at $1000 that's another level. The spelled out name bothers me but as you said it's part of the package. Honestly, full name logo aside it's one of the most attractive and sleekly designed watches you've ever featured. If I'm stroking a check or pressing a key for $1,000 I want a watch with some heft behind the name. I like the watch design-wise and the warranty is great, but I'm not coughing up $1000 for it.
It's not $1000, It's $900 retail and with sales you have have it around $800 or less. For the value I've yet to find another watch that can match a CW in quality/fit/finish... or even come close. The timepieces are amazing. I just don't fancy the design and that's the only thing keeping me from buying one. Being compared to Oris is truly flattering, so CW has come a long way. Oris is the gold standard when it comes to $1000 watches but I see CW as the microbrand to beat. Just try out one of their watches (you have 60 days to return it for free, they even pay for shipping) and see for yourself.
I just order a 40mm black C60 Trident Pro, because of the simple font, clean logo and unique branding. Considered a few others for several hundred less, but just couldn't bring myself pull the trigger on a Folex®
I love that case shape, but the name in the default font is very off putting for me. Around this price i would be temped to pay a little more and get a zodiac seawolf, squale or push more for a sinn104. Love the vid jody!
I did pay more and ended up with a Sinn 104 and I'm very happy. I just don't get excited by this watch. It looks like a generic Chinese special to me with a silly name in a sillier position on the dial.
I am so glad you did a review of this beautiful piece! I've been looking at this one for a few months now since its release and I'm quite fond of it. Might make this my Christmas gift to myself this year😎 great vid as always🍻
C/ward make great quality watches , I own 4 and every one is superb, the C60 range are unbeatable value, I have the limited edition ombré model cosc certified and it is as well made if not better than a lot of the so called luxury brands at twice the price, brilliant company and excellent value for money, for example the tag aquaracer is twice the price and doesn’t come close to the C60 in build quality, I owned and sold my tag caliber 5 when I bought my C60 ombré, i own a Tudor bb which in my opinion is the best watch in the world for the price and it’s not far off that quality ! That’s how good it is
Gorgeous watch! Great review, I appreciate the phrasing (not ‘unbalanced’, just a different placement of the Christopher Word font). Overall? It’s a little out of my price range, but I still enjoyed the review! Keep up the great work!
its worth signing up to the newsletter they offer, they normally give plenty of notice of incoming sales. and there are some great bargains to be had, I got an older trident for almost 50% off, and its a stunning watch.
You're right! Logos are tricky. Just look at Phoibos. The first text logo was absolutely horrendous! THEN, they nailed it with the Octopus (Cthulhu) logo 🔥🔥🔥👏👏👏
Great review. CW sent me a sale email this morning, so I just ordered the Trident Pro in blue for about $800. It will be my third CW, and am really looking forward to receiving it.
Great video as always, Jody!! The only things I'd change on what is otherwise a total winner is the logo at nine, highlight the one at twelve and sort the bracelet adjustment!!! Just saying.......
19:40 The reviewer says it is a risk buying online, but with their 60/60 guarantee there is 0 risk to try one on your wrist in the comfort of your own home. They pay for shipping AND the return shipping plus the full refund if you are not taken away with the watch. It's an amazing service. What other company let's you try on their watches completely for free this way (covering all shipping costs - even international)?
It’s interesting to see how Ward mixes modern with austere in their aesthetic. Simple dial, clean font, but his shine bezel and distinctive second hand flourish. I kinda don’t know what to make of it...
I have the C60 BLUE Limited Edition watch on my wrist. Unbelievably stunning dial. You won't regret this one. I don't! Supposed to keep +/- 20 sec a day, and while I don't have a good way to measure this, it appears to me that mine is running much tighter then that. Also good feeling that all my money went to help clean the oceans. So if you think about it, you donate all your money to a good cause and the watch is free ;)
Extremely nice watch and great value for your buck. 600 m diver. The case has a Breitling Superocean heritage feel about it and looks like it wants to punch on with the Oris Aquis and hydroconquest. Maybe the "best" choice at the price point. Would be cooler on a nice endmill bracelet or a mesh like the Breitling.
Great honest review 👍 I got the 40mm version and the feel of it is great but something that cant be explained- it has to be felt (a bit like a grand seiko). It had a quality heft to it, without being too heavy or big. Feels solid and well made. I have returned mine due to an issue with the movement and hope the customer service is not as bad as people say it's become as they were always known for being good. Worried they have got bigger too quickly and cant handle it.
Hi Jody... i was hoping for your review. I saw the other ones already and I'm 100% conviced this is the ONLY real alternative to the 2019 omega seamaster 300m, it's the only other diver watch that has a modern look to it. I'm very glad to see that you approve it too... I'm quite sure I'll get one
Another great watch review! I bought the white-dial version and it's everything Jody said: it's a great watch but the lume and logo let down the side a little bit. The lume is weaker than it should be and the logo always makes me think it quarter-to-something at a quick glance but otherwise it's a terrific watch and a great value.
@@MrMaramba I bought the old model with eta 2824-2 not with powermatic and it goes with +7 sec/24h.I compared the level of finish with tag heuer aquaracer which is much more expensive and there was no difference, all surfaces are brushed no polish but I think that suits a tool watch. On the other hand the seiko which you are considering buying runs with 6r15 which is also a great movement.i have it in my sarb033 and it runs extremly accurate (+2-3 sec/24h) with very good power reserve of 50+ hours. Both watches are awesome its up to you which look you like more.
Was in the Situation to buy a 1000,-€ watch and I ended up with a Diver that doesn’t look like a Diver....😇 . The Longines Conquest automatic which has the case and the deep rate of the HydroConquest (300m), but has a more exploreresque style to make it a "go anywhere - do everything" watch... You get it in 43/41/39mm (I choose the 39 for my 8" wrist 😇) and in silver or blue sunburst without lume and black or white with lume (I choose the blue, because lume means nothing to me...) Movement - Longines L.888 which is an ETA 2892 brought down to unusual 25200 bph for 65h powerreserve...
I pulled the trigger on the previous C65 blue wave dial version not so long ago and love it. I now have it on a tan suede strap and it looks the dogs, well to me it does.
Hello Jody, I own the CW C65 Trident. I find that with ownership the CW Brand name at 9 o'clock becomes unnoticeable over time. Not that I have a problem with its placing anyway. cheers and thanks for the review
@@stuartcole4845 obviously yes, there's differenf history to those names. But he didnt say the name has no prestige or horological achievements. I'm just stating my opinion based on his specfic stated stance.
TheVirtualStealth I guess I didn’t just mean history or prestige with regards to the name. It’s just poor marketing. If you’re going to be narcissistic enough to put your name all over your product, “Christopher Ward” doesn’t even *sound* like a luxury watch brand. Christopher Ward is just as likely to be some knobhead down at the local pub as a luxury watch brand. Even “CW” would be far, far better, but for some reason, I’m assuming that Chris Ward is so arrogant that he couldn’t stand to NOT have his whole name on the watch. Which is a shame because they look like awesome watches but as long as that is how they are branded, I will NEVER buy one. Also, the logo is terrible as well, but that is another story.
Great review. I see lots of comments sugesting the Longines Hydroconquest as a contender. I was expecting many people suggesting Steinhart as well. I've never held one in my hands, but my impression is that they are (also) very well built and finnished. Care to give your view on how the Steinhart stack up againts the CW?
I also don’t mind you getting a free watch as long as you are honest with the review. You don’t get rich doing YT videos! I love the watch. The trident is super. Excellent choice, Jody. I don’t mind branding. If you create a watch, why shouldn’t you brand it? First world problem, for sure.
One word: it’s Stunning and for 1100$ it’s excellent buy. About the clasp it’s no issue for me as I wear my watches a little loose just for that occasion when my wrist swells up a bit during a day. They are great overall piece of art.
Love the Trident Pro 600! Definitely the best diver at 1k imo. The only downside for me is the lengthy brand name. I think they’ve done the best they can with putting that on the dial. I do love the stealthy logo at 12. I presume they will slowly transition to that emblem over time as they lose the name. Love the design otherwise. It’s beautiful while not being an homage, yet not being unique and fugly. My favorite part has to be the quick bracelet release. This should be a new standard for all bracelets!
I really like Davosa Ternos for the money. 40mm 200m dive watch with ETA 2824-2 for about $800. Love that watch. And they now have distribution in the USA so you dont have to send overseas for any warranty issues that would unlikely to happen.
I have both the c9 5 day auto and trident pro 600 both are fantastic watches for the price far exceeding some better known alternatives , frederique constant and Oris respectively . As you mentioned CW aftercare is second to none so can’t rete the brand high enough . I prefer a more symmetrical look to dial with regards to new logo placement. Don’t just follow the crowd try Christopher Ward.
I picked up the C60 Trident Bronze Ombré COSC Limited Edition a few months ago and it's become one of my favorites. It's the watch that I get the most compliments on as well. As for the logo, I never really thought twice about it. So far it hasn't interfered with the accuracy of the watch in any way. I've seen many reviews of the CW's including this one and there have been very few negative comments about them. I've always found your reviews to be very fair, whether you purchased the watch in question or it was provided gratis. Although it can be difficult at times taking you seriously when you're wearing your Ministry Of Silly Walks shirt :)
I have exactly the same problem with the bracelet and several of us brought it up with Christopher Ward at the Manchester get together. For some people it works fine, but if your wrist size is in between links then you're either using the clasp fully open or closed depending on how many links you have. A half link would certainly solve that.
They're better than I thought. That case 'scalloping', facetting, shaping and polishing reminds me, maybe a little, of the sarb033, my own sbdc053 (6Rmas), and then some! The case and back are fantastic. The new hands are an improvement, too. Really like that there's a 40mm. Not '41.this' or '38.that'. I've a few over-40 divers but a recent homage purchase has made me feel like a bit smaller, at 40mm, is the way. Among other things: it seems a bit more civilised (or something), haha. I wouldn't quibble about their logo, either. It's only small and in the subtlest of fonts. I would choose this over my Hydroconquest if I was looking for something in that price bracket, today.
I have both an early pilot watch as well as the trident, both very good watches that still run fine, however the branding in recent years bugs me a little, the logo itself is fine but the Christopher Ward itself is clunky and unattractive, it reminds me of certain cheap fashion watches. I think having a distinct and classy logo would help, and drop the name all together, they have been around long enough and the quality of there watches are very good for the money. Good review..
Surprised at the comments re current "Christopher Ward". Each to their own but I prefer it to previous abbreviated "Chris". I bought a C5 Malvern on what I call a chain mail (Milanese) bracelet. So far, very happy with it and it's been admired. The downloaded images look white but it's champagne. I actually prefer it to white. Have mentioned this to the company.
I’ve heard some real negatives on Christopher Ward taking months to research/fix (or not fix) watches with warranty issues just a few months after purchase. I’ve also heard they’re awful to work with from a Customer Service perspective on warranty issues. Hope you don’t run across these issues, nice job on the review!

I like it too. I’ve never thought the previous branding was very strong.

It’s grown on me. I HATED it. Now I really like it.
@Brenton Edwards It's gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But it is gay, and gay isn't my thing.
Same. I'd literally never buy one JUST because of it. It looks so tacky
They should use CW as their logo.
Daniël Granja Baltazar I’ve since realised my wrist is 16.5cm and I bought the 38mm and it’s spot on. You won’t be dissatisfied.
Jamie Thrift thank you for the quick reply. Much appreciated mate! 👍🏼
Daniël Granja Baltazar tell you what mate, I’m thinking of selling mine? I’ve only had it 2 months, barely worn it. I Fancy the c65 now
I really love the trident second hand it’s so beautiful and unique
I just bought the GMT in 38mm. Fantastic. The logo really makes sense when you see it in person
The cases are made in same place as tudor
Had to use the warranty at 4 years. Great experience working with CW. They provided free air shipping from California back to England. Had the watch back in 7 weeks.
I have 2 CW Trident Pro (Mark II) myself and I have gotten plenty of compliments off them. CW is grossly underrated and congrats on your first CW! Am looking at one of the Trident GMT model.. still thinking over if I should pull the trigger. Keep up the great Vlogs 👍
Bought the 38mm variant two years ago and it's still my one watch watch collection. No other diver has come close.
Looks like a classy timepiece, I’m tempted. Great review btw.
Thanks Robert! Very solid watch that has become a bit of a benchmark for me now. If you like the look, and the branding, then go for it!
Yes.Yes.
Thank you.
Thanks for your kind words! Cheers, Jody
Nice watch! Glad to see brands are recognizing you now. Kudos!
There, you did it, my Trident is on order. The current 50% off sale did not hurt either.
Appreciate the "Ministry of Silly Walks" shirt :D
I love that case shape, but the name in the default font is very off putting for me. Around this price i would be temped to pay a little more and get a zodiac seawolf, squale or push more for a sinn104. Love the vid jody!
Couldn't have said it better brother. Cheers
I agree 100%
I did pay more and ended up with a Sinn 104 and I'm very happy. I just don't get excited by this watch. It looks like a generic Chinese special to me with a silly name in a sillier position on the dial.
Angelo Soulas : I also agree 100%. It looks like the 43m Parnis with the Miyota mouvement and 20 atm going for under $100.
It is in helvetica....
I am so glad you did a review of this beautiful piece! I've been looking at this one for a few months now since its release and I'm quite fond of it. Might make this my Christmas gift to myself this year😎 great vid as always🍻
I’m currently wearing a 🔱 Trident 300 with the orange bezel. Love it.
Fantastic watch and review! I have the C65 Trident GMT and I absolutely love it. It’s hard to beat the value provided by Christopher Ward. 😎
Great video as always, Jody!! The only things I'd change on what is otherwise a total winner is the logo at nine, highlight the one at twelve and sort the bracelet adjustment!!! Just saying.......
I have the GMT version. Love it. Only annoyance is that the bezel is unidirectional. Should be bidirectional on a GMT.
Definitely! That's a miss.
If you say it is a good watch...it is a good watch. 👍
Brilliant- my rainy Saturday has been made for me.
That was a good observation, the problem with the lack of half links.
It seems that they have listened to your suggestion, latest version have included half ring on it
Great honest review 👍 I got the 40mm version and the feel of it is great but something that cant be explained- it has to be felt (a bit like a grand seiko).
I'm quite sure I'll get one
got the Blue model with the hybrid strap and the bracelet and i love it. definitely a keeper.
same pal
Another great watch review! I bought the white-dial version and it's everything Jody said: it's a great watch but the lume and logo let down the side a little bit. The lume is weaker than it should be and the logo always makes me think it quarter-to-something at a quick glance but otherwise it's a terrific watch and a great value.
I bought Certina ds action diver blue dial couple of months ago,and I must say i cant imagine a better diver around 1000$.
Hans Mayer perfect watch 👍🏼 love Certina ⏱
how is the accuracy out of the box end how is the watch overall i am also about to buy one ds action diver or the seiko sbdc053 thinking
Was in the Situation to buy a 1000,-€ watch and I ended up with a Diver that doesn’t look like a Diver....😇
.
The Longines Conquest automatic which has the case and the deep rate of the HydroConquest (300m), but has a more exploreresque style to make it a "go anywhere - do everything" watch...
You get it in 43/41/39mm (I choose the 39 for my 8" wrist 😇) and in silver or blue sunburst without lume and black or white with lume (I choose the blue, because lume means nothing to me...)
Movement - Longines L.888 which is an ETA 2892 brought down to unusual 25200 bph for 65h powerreserve...
I love the branding. "Wearing another man's name" is mute when you have JLC, Frederique Constant, Bell & Ross, etc
If you can’t work out how this is different yo those other examples then there is no point in discussion.
Stuart Cole I know a Christopher Ward. He’s not a knobhead, though. I guess Patek Philippe may have been a narcissist.
I appreciate the disclosure, wish all TH-camrs were this honest.
Stealth logos are cool imo
Great video as always, you have one of the best “back catalogue” of videos on youtube! Excellent re-watch value too
The al black looks outstanding, also liked the black dial with red bezel.
I have got the blue Mark 2 Christopher Ward and I love it. Great review.
Great great great brand...the c65 is an incredible watch, love everything about them.
One word: it’s Stunning and for 1100$ it’s excellent buy. About the clasp it’s no issue for me as I wear my watches a little loose just for that occasion when my wrist swells up a bit during a day.
They are great overall piece of art.
CW dollar for dollar some of the best.
I believe half links are coming. My preference is the older Mk1 and 2 hand sets but I adore this light catcher case.
Thanks mate!
Surprisingly nice... the more i look at this piece the more it draws me in. Brilliant mate, thanks for sharing!
I love their C1 Grand Malvern Power Reserve. Its quite impressive to get an in-house movement for this price!
Great review as usual Jody...spot on.
I agree completely, why bother with a logo if you're going to print the name in big ugly letters all over the watch.
I had a similar problem with the bracelet on my C65 and agree that a half link would have sorted it. Shame, but the quality from CW is excellent.
It's a great watch, just keep in mind the sometimes lacking quality control. Just check out the Christopher Ward Forum
