This one is even busier than the zodiac, but some reason it doesn’t offend me like that one did, maybe because the colour palette is so beautiful. This is glorious.
A bunch of indices - I counted an even dozen(!) - minute markers ALL THE WAY AROUND THE DIAL, markings on the bezel, even a second hand. And did they really need to print the brand on the dial?? Yup, real busy......
Using a more complicated technology to get a worse result in the end does seem a bit strange, but isn't that what mechanical watches are all about anyway?
I have the blue with white bezel. One of the most beautiful and well-fitting watches in my collection. The authenticity of it being a true supercompressor is just cool.
I have the same one! I love it, it's very comfortable, I wear it pretty much daily. It would have been awesome if they illuminated the white on the bezel in my opinion.
I assume if they went with a solid case back that would have increased the wr rating but guess they wanted to show off the orange ring/ spring in the back.
@@JustOneMoreWatch if it is a true super compressor I wonder why it doesn't have better water resistance? Is it because it has a display caseback? Or no gaskets on the crowns?
I think you are the first watch reviewer I have seen who admits that Vostok is essentially offering compressor technology at value prices, cheers for that
I have the ocean-blue one with the white bezel and I absolutely love it! It is beautiful and so unique in design, you won’t find anything else like it!
I handled one today at a watch GTG sponsored by Nodus. I was impressed. It’s a very nice watch. The dial design and execution are spot on. This is the first diver with an inner rotating bezel I’ve handled where I’d actually have confidence using the bezel for timing without worrying about knocking it out of place. I might not be a buyer but I think it’s worth the ask.
I got the black dial on sale and I love it. The bracelet fits perfectly with excellent drape. The indices are gorgeous and I appreciate having a real compressor on my wrist versus just a dual crown watch. And the light catcher case is a stunner. The sparkly indices on the back dial really shine like the night sky. I wore mine for 3 days last week and was again appreciating it as I did my daily chores. Buying these on a CW sale and you can't beat the value with a stick.
I bought a C65 Super Compressor Black Sand when they were released. It's a great watch and in real life mine runs about +7 sec/day (which is typical for my CWs) but I haven't put it on a timegrapher. The Black Sand model was not popular. I believe they made only one batch, all with slightly off-centre text below the pinion (you can't tell in real life). The rest of the Black Sand models were sold at a 30% discount in their Jan 2021 sale. CW offered anyone who purchased one before the sale a refund to match the sales price. The black sand was the best colourway IMO but clearly the market felt otherwise. Time to doubt the wisdom of crowds but I would say that, wouldn't I? Lume is often a weak point on CW watches, always has been and in many models always will be. Not sure why. Ig you want great lume on a CW then you're looking at the C60 range. Great to see CW on the channel and another great video.
I have an auto search set up for this watch on ebay hoping to pick one up second hand, I must say a lot of people are selling the black sand colourway, so even the people who bought it don't want it anymore, each to their own, and glad the colour has worked out for you personally 👍
@@GodIsInHisHeaven I suspect that quite a few of the Black Sand were bought in the sale with the express intent to sell on. The sale price was very attractive (~ $640). Good luck with your search and thank you.
I own it. It's a beautiful watch and utilises legit technology. It's definitely a keeper. Add CW's impeccable build and finish for the crowning touches.
Just bought the C63 Auto last week and I love it. But, based on my sample size of one, I will say that one department where CW are lacking (and where other Swiss Made brands offer more) is accuracy/regulation. I've owned seven Steinharts (still own five of them) and all of them run/ran within -3s to +5s/day. More precisely, they mostly run at around +3s/day and that's based on months and months of regular watch-checking. As it is after a week of ownership, my CW is nowhere near that accuracy. Granted: It meets the promised -20s to +20s/day at roughly +15s/day, but for a Swiss watch costing €750 on rubber, and considering my experience with the much cheaper Steinharts, I would've expected a bit more from CW.
@@JustOneMoreWatch you've mentioned this before, Jody sir. So my amateur's question is to ask how much per watch it would cost a brand to regulate a watch before dispatching?
One thing I now do notice in your videos now is how San Martin caps off their pinion which does make for a nice finish whereas other brands including expensive ones don't! Really is a nice touch IMO. All in all this one is lovely watch! Thanks for the review!
I have this one in the brown. Through the years CW has been making some nice watches for the money. I have around six or so and this is one of my favorites.
Finally some CW coverage Jody. I wish there was much more on your channel. There are plenty of CW models like C63 Sealander, or C60 that look great in bullshots, but lack a real world reviews. I hope you’ll get a chance to review more of the brand.
I have bough a total of four Chris Ward watches, and still own two. I have a brown version of the Super Compressor, and it's quite possibly my favourite watch in my entire collection. Unfortunately I needed to regulate it, as the it was running 20 seconds fast. There is also some bezel back play, and they should have put a screw down crown on the bezel crown. Take no notice of the warranty, CW are dreadful to deal with if you have a problem.
Yikes! Im 31 mins late! Jody all of your hard work is much appreciated. You've introduced me to this chronic illness of watch collecting and my life hasn't been the same for two years and counting. Hellooooo from Ohio! Cheers!
Amazing shots and if I didn't already have the white bezel variant, I'd buy this. It's an incredibly beautiful watch and a lot of watch for the money. Sorry yours wasn't better regulated, but mine is running +4 sec/day. Knock wood. Great video as usual! Thanks!
I own the black sand model that came on the tropic strap, and it is one of my favorite watches. I picked it up from CW for $810 Canadian because the "Super Compressor" text was not perfectly centered on the case. With my eye sight, I don't even notice it, but for folks with better eye sight, I think its one of those things that once you see it, you can't unsee it but for $810 Canadian, you would have a hard time finding something better at this quality.
Beautiful dial. I love the blue with orange together. It really pops. I agree with you on the pushpins. Is there an option to buy the watch on a rubber strap?
I had one of these for a few months with the brown dial and orange leather. Fantastic quality and the way they design & finish the cases is incredible. Loved the micro printing on this one and use of orange. Couldn't get on with it on the wrist though, it never felt that comfy and I got the urge to take it off after a couple of hours. Not sure why - I have a Mondaine which I forget I'm wearing even though it's leather.
Hey Mr. Just One More Watch, Being a pedantic engineer who works mainly with the imperial system, I feel the need to point out that a mil is a different unit from a millimeter. A mil is one thousandth of an inch, about two and a half hundredths of a millimeter. I do understand that in common parlance where millimeters and centimeters are used as measurements it is easy to know that the meter is understood and just use the prefix, but I couldn't keep hearing it without saying something.
A true "super compressor" watch is really only safe from water intrusion when diving. If worn while only swimming, not enough pressure is exerted upon the case to engage the seals and make it water tight.
Lynette Nusbacher that’s kind of the point. As you’re descending, the increasing pressure makes the seals tighter and tighter until you’re at depth. If you’re just swimming in shallow water, there’s not enough pressure to engage the seals.
… unless you keep the supercompressor watch in a box under pressure, and only open the box at depth, and put the watch on then. This could explain some of those boxes that dive watches come in -- you know, the ones that look like aqualungs.
@@nusbacher I think what he/she is saying is that if you move your arms too rapidly or with excessive force in shallow water, there is a higher probability of water entering the case, as there is no pressure to produce the seal and you may force water in with the rapid movement. However, if you dive to a suitable depth without crazy arm movement (i.e., from free style swimming), then you will be ok. That is my interpretation of the comment. I am not sure if this is actually true or not, however. It sounds a little bit far fetched, as it means that you have to baby the watch in your descent. Surely the initial dive action will exert a similar force as freestyle swimming.
I've got this watch and it's just amazing. The bracelet is from a much higher price point too. Their Customer support is great too. Always email and ask for a discount code from them.
I agree. I bought a trident pro 600 last year for just over £700. I couldn't believe the quality for the money paid. Defo bats above its price point. The bracelet is comfortable, easy to change out fast, has the on the fly clasp adjustment, great lume, excellent bezel action. Top quality materials. God knows how much you'd have to pay for a more mainstream brand with the same quality and specs. I only have two divers in my collection and the other is a Planet Ocean I bought new last year too. When I compare the finishing and quality, there's not much in it to my eyes and touch, and the omega was 8 times more expensive. Wish the omega had quick release bracelet too. I want to add another diver to the collection when I have the spare finances. A doxa sub i reckon.
I must be one of the very few that preferred the Ch. Ward name at the 9 o'clock. That ensure there's no mistaking it for anything other than a Christopher Ward. After Omega, Ch. Ward is my favorite brand.
Love Christopherward. Always wanted to buy one. Not in love with this one. But want to buy one. Every time I am ready to do so, I find another watch that I like more.
Another retro beauty! Compressor style watches with an internal bezel don’t do much for me personally but this looks like a well executed take on it by Christopher Ward (other than the lume and that timegrapher result 🤦🏻♂️). Awesome stuff as always Jody 👍
It's a nice watch with good use of colours. However I prefer the Farer compressor and the Baltic Dual Crown to this. The Farer has 300m WR with great lume and the Baltic has a gorgeous, clean design.
I’m not going to lie I enjoy this watch a lot. The look the finishing is nice, The bracelet looks good. I also enjoy the fact that it’s a real compressor style diver. The whole compressor look is okay but this watch actually going though the “ engineering for engineering sake” is something I appreciate, and I’m sure others would. I wonder what’s stoping it from being 200m water resistant the spring clips and retainers or non screw down rotating bezel connected to the crown…
This is the first CW that I would consider buying. Overall fit and finish is to usual CW standard. A proper super compressor to boot. Would prefer screw pins but not a deal breaker. But unfortunately the lume, or should I say lack of probably would be. Great review as usual Jody.
Much better than the zodiac, honestly don’t mind the Christopher Ward logo but then again my name is Chris and last name begins with W lol so I can’t complain!
Love the design, but is it bad if the only thing stopping me from getting a Christopher Ward is the logo? Something about having so much text and the font choice doesn't really scream class
The sand version was stopped initially as the text in red at the bottom was aligned incorrectly - I had one and sold it this year. They sold them for £600 in Jan sales.
I own a CW Grand Malvern Worldtimer. Is so comfortable and find the quality above the price point. Have a Sealander GMT on order. Really like the looks of this diver, just wish it was not orange.
There is a lot to like from the CW C65 Super Compressor but I would like to see the bracelet reduced down fro 22mm at the lugs to 20mm with a 2mm taper down to the clasp. Offer a true BoR bracelet with the great push button adjustable ratcheting CW clasp would be a great improvement. Plus, regulate the movement to +0 to +8 range at this price point, would be welcomed.
Cool looker and a great bezel design. The video quality's not bad either Jody. Interesting that they've stuck to the Christopher Ward branding even though he's no longer with the company.
CW have some very good designers. I can't remember seeing a bad looking one. That alone should be deserving of abit more recognition than they're getting.
Still loving the Sealander but agree that should of been regulated. Although not a deal breaker or the lume for that matter. I do find the dial a little busy but overall it seems like a well thought out offering.
At the sales this is a no brainer, beautiful watch, but Ive recently went for another dual crown diver,Nth Azores, and I really like it,the dial is nice.A bit expensive for a Miyota, will see in a year if its a keeper or not 😅
This is a good looking piece. That inner rotating bezel is something a bit too. Not seen one like that before. I really wouldn't be happy with a pin and collar system and that lume for this kind of money though. The on the fly adjustment is nice too have though.
It's a nice watch that I might consider buying, however, +15 secs a day is annoying when I have a steeldive nh35 watch running at +3 secs, what do you reckon?
I bought the C11 Elite about 7 years ago - 500m diver, inner rotating 120 click bezel at 2, movement crown at 4, HEL on the left side of the case. Great watch - bombproof. So I see this watch as a mesh of a true supercompressor mechanism in the back as well as 7+ years of design evolution on the front. I agree this should be at least 300m WR - a supercompressor diver at 150m doesn't impress! Plus, it gets more waterproof the deeper you go, so is it 150m at the surface and then ?? 200m at 30m depth...????? 🤣🤣
Thanks for the review. I'm interested in getting a CW ( Classic watches?) and I'm on their sale alert in the UK. ..so your view on the quality and value of the brand is pretty useful.
I had never seen a video of this darker blue one. It’s very sharp, but I still prefer the lighter, Turquoise version. I love color so that blue on such a fun, updated retro design is just glorious. Could care less about the lume or the water resistance. I’m not a fisherman or a diver. It’s 3 on my list for about 2 years, but now it’s next in the que and I’m no longer sure. The Oris Aquis 400 is 3 times the price, not a deal like this CW, but I LOVE the Aquis and it’s clean, modern, flawless (to me) design. Decisions.
Been looking into getting one of these since I bought a super compressor style Spinnaker Bradner a while back. I like the aesthetics of the dual crown design.
So you would genuinely recommend this over the Hydro conquest? I’m very intrigued by Christopher Ward I’ve just never actually seen or held one, and $1200 is a lot of money for me to risk
Some of us don't mind the name of another man on our watches but are Canadian and old enough to remember Christopher Ward was the name of the MuchMusic VJ who wrote the Alanah Myles' hit Black Velvet. Just seems weird seeing his name on a watch, even though it's not his name, even though it's his name. Maybe if the watch maker's name was Bob Ward....
I have the brown and white and I love it. The white outer ring helps with the design language cmpared with this one I think. Are you sure it has a ghost date though? Mine doesn't.
JOMW! GREAT review, as always! You never fail to impress with your detail, humor and on-the-nose critiques. This one is no different, however I have to say I've never been a fan of cushion cases. They look like a turkey platter with a watch dial stuck on. Also, what's with the constant complaints about having a watch maker's name on the dial? Really?? Following are watches with men's (and a woman's) names on them: Joseph BULOVA, Antoni PATEK and Adrien PHILIPPE, Antoine LeCOULTRE, RICHARD MILLE, Louis-François CARTIER, Charles-Félicien TISSOT, Aletta Francoise FREDERIQUE Stas-Bax and Peter CONSTANT, Andrew HAMILTON, and finally BREGUET... I guess it's fine if the name sounds more French, Scottish, Dutch, Swiss, Polish or Russian? (These are the true origins of all these fine watchmakers.) Anyway, having gotten all that out of the way, I currently own the C.Ward C60 Trident Bronze Ombré COSC Limited Edition (a superb watch!) and a C.Ward C60 Trident Pro 600 with red ceramic bezel, also a superior watch. I had the older C60 with black bezel, but sold it. And you're right Jody - that S.Compressor movement should have been adjusted better. I paid the same for my COSC Trident Bronze (WITH an $81 USD Import Duty!) as what they're asking for the Compressor. NO excuses C.W.!!
Great insight Jody. This one, however, is in my colour range and would look fantastic on my wrist. I must say that I just recently discovered CW watches and find them to be very well built and have great thoughtful designs. Thanks for sharing.
Not my cup of tea but you get something a bit different from the normal diver and still have a bezel to use for car parks, egg timing and other diving related issues.
"...blue and orange though, interesting color combination, but one I personally enjoy" and "I'm not personally a big fan of blue watches". Do those statements contradict each other or is there a subtlety I'm missing?
I don't like the dial and the colors, but the package is amazing: great looking case, bracelet, clasp, etc. Had they gone either vintage dial, or super futuristic dial, this would've been a winner to me.
I do like the looks, but I don't get it - for me the appeal of a dive watch is that the chunky bezel protects the smaller crystal from knocks, but the supercompressors have a much bigger & more vulnerable crystal... Chris Ward are excellent imho. Cheers Mate 👍🏻👍🏻 and thanks Mr P 👍🏻

Cheers Jodie, for reviewing
The sand version was stopped initially as the text in red at the bottom was aligned incorrectly - I had one and sold it this year. They sold them for £600 in Jan sales.
I own a CW Grand Malvern Worldtimer. Is so comfortable and find the quality above the price point. Have a Sealander GMT on order. Really like the looks of this diver, just wish it was not orange.
If you are a fan of mechanical watches, you have to love the fact that the supercompressor mechanism is... well, mechanical.
Love my white dial black bezel C60, so much that I’m having a hard time not picking up the black dial and blue dial versions to go with it!
Absolutely gorgeous, a big YES.
Nice One. Kudos to CW - they did a fine job here, IMHO.
Wow I really love this one (the look) - except for the lum and timegrapher.
This is the first CW I’ve wanted…thanks Jodi 👍🏼👍🏼
Still loving the Sealander but agree that should of been regulated. Although not a deal breaker or the lume for that matter. I do find the dial a little busy but overall it seems like a well thought out offering.
At the sales this is a no brainer, beautiful watch, but Ive recently went for another dual crown diver,Nth Azores, and I really like it,the dial is nice.A bit expensive for a Miyota, will see in a year if its a keeper or not 😅
Great shirt, Jody. A quirky design repping a quirky design. Love my scuba dudes 💯
Sucker for orange and blue... would have preferred a 20mm, but will put this one on the list of I want 'em list...
This is a good looking piece. That inner rotating bezel is something a bit too. Not seen one like that before. I really wouldn't be happy with a pin and collar system and that lume for this kind of money though. The on the fly adjustment is nice too have though.
love the look and the inner rotating bezel is the coolest it would look so nice on a blue white and orange nato strap like my ecodrive looks on it
i always liked this watch. would have preferred a date and 20mm lug width. blue is fine by me!
It's a nice watch that I might consider buying, however, +15 secs a day is annoying when I have a steeldive nh35 watch running at +3 secs, what do you reckon?
1K for a watch with a ghost date position is a a no go for me, but the case design is nice. Cushion case gives me a Seiko vibe.
Looks nicely finished.
That's funny we're wearing the exact same Tshirt this morning.
Christopher ward is one of the best micro-brands in the business right now..
Decisions.
I love the C65 Super Compressor look, but I haven't picked one up due to the lack of a date.
I'll be keeping my eye on the Divex Offshore 500, thank you very much.
I was disappinted to hear in this review that it (apparently) has a ghost date. Would love to know if that is really true!
@@SimonKinsella well mine doesn't
My wife has this watch, and LOVES it.
Dare I say the black sand version looks the best of the bunch?
Love it. Big fan of CW. I’m after a Sandhurst meself.
Lovely looking watch. I love blue watches! Nice review as always mate!
Sharp looking watch. Cannot see myself buying it, but I like it!
I like the look of the Oris Chronoris a little more the this CW.
I must admit I’m a big fan of Christopher Ward watches, sort of got the logo now
I don't like the dial and the colors, but the package is amazing: great looking case, bracelet, clasp, etc. Had they gone either vintage dial, or super futuristic dial, this would've been a winner to me.
wow. CW is kicking it out of the park these days !
Standard £100 discount if you sign up to the mailing list, so would make it 900gbp
‘Another man’s name on the watch!’ 😂 As ridiculous as having another man’s name on your underpants! I would never do! Yours sincerely, Calvin Klein.
Marty Mcfly with his mom 🤣🤣
