Strangely after going over several benchmark tests, 8gb of ram really doesn’t offer that big of an advantage for most games aside from like COD as even though you allocate that much it doesn’t seem to utilize it. 5gb (or 6gb depending on who you ask) seems to be the sweet spot. Games like Cyberpunk which you mentioned, the performance was negligible between 5gb and 6gb - and actually a couple FPS less with 6gb! For anyone reading this, don’t even bother with Auto as that actually gets it worse performance overall across the board.
I recommend the handheld diy back plate replacement. It lowered my temps by 5-10 degrees depending on the game. I usually top out around 70 degrees on full load
I couldn’t care less about the fan noise because I wear my XM5 noise canceling headphones when I use my Ally for gaming lol. As long as the custom fan profile keeps the device cool and offers better performance I’m up for it. How much of a performance jump/boost you get going from Turbo plugged in to that custom profile?
@@spiritualantisepticlol thanks for the grammar correction, yes, I meant I didn’t care much about the fan noise because I wear noise canceling headphones. Sadly I no longer have this device though.
@@fresco_dinero5155auto in FH5 is actually worst for me. I set is back to 4G and it plays a lot better. 8G will leave you with very little RAM to work with. This should've came with 32GB of RAM that's for sure.
RAM? 16GB is appropriate for handheld. Docked as a PC? Maybe. But if your games are breaking 16GB you're pushing the settings beyond what a playable framerate would be to begin with, or you are pumping up settings your human eye won't benefit from on a small screen. My home PC is 32ram and 8vram but that's because I'm rockin newest games at 2k 165hz.
I just got the XG Mobile 6850M XT for better performance. 😁 ASUS got me I guess cause I ended up getting a ROG Flow X16 as well to make use of that XG Mobile. I'm looking to get the XG Mobile 4090+ in the future as well.
I'm curious to see what settings you were using in Cyberpunk. I have been using higher settings at 1080p with a 30 fps cap and it has been fine, game runs good with 25W mode and cpu boost off. 15W or 18W the fps will drop into the 20s though. I have just used auto VRAM and I haven't noticed any issues with it yet. I feel better having it on auto so if a game needs more system ram and less vram it will be able to have that.
Apparently I have heard that 3GB is optimal followed by auto then 4GB. However, to stop fallout 4 from crashing after an hour or two of play, I had to set it to 1 GB for it to work fine.
The 322 bios bumps fan curve and performance...theirs several informative videos out on the difference between the 317 and 322 bios and the 322 marginally out performs the 317...so it is safe to say that Asus is back on track on the bios front.
I have had no issues. The fan noise does not bother me. This thing has amazing speakers use them. Never had issues with 319 either. Set up a manual fan curve it's not that hard.
Try running Deathloop with 8g set on VRAM. That's the first game I saw an issue. I ended up having to set it back to 4g for it to run smoothly (on Auto, it had a bit of stuttering).

one thing i did on my Ally is to disable the clock boost on the cpu. it didn't noticably increase the overall fps, but it can save some battery life. as 95% of games are gpu bottlenecked on the ally(except if you use an external gpu), so having a faster cpu makes little to no benefit. also, it helped in some games that had stuttering because of the constantly changing cpu clock. the modification is reversible, so no risks here. ps. i use dbrand's switch oled's screen protector on the ally and it looks shockingly similair to what you have on your Ally ;)

Hello everyone I have a question What does it mean to change gpu setting to 8G? I’m new on this, does that mean more ram for games or better performance? Affects battery?
Yeah I don't know why. When you said don't lock the fps it runs choppy. I locked it for gamecube emulation I spent like 30 mins trying to figure out what is the issue of why the graphics were glitchy. I thought it was a setting on Dolphin emulator. Then I took off the fps cap and it fixed the issue.
My charger is jacked up on mine. I plugged it in one day wouldn’t charge plugged the charger into my switch it started charging. So I thought it was the ally. But then I plugged a different type c charger into the ally and it connected instantly no issues. But sadly won’t do 30W turbo only 25w. The asus charger only works if I leave it plugged into my switch for a little then transfer the charger over to the ally super weird idk what it could be.
Side note: I recently discovered playnite as a frontend for my games it just detects all from your multiple launchers, and it has themes so I have mine looking like a switch theme. Also I have had the OSD bugg out and not update on certain things before. Turn your settings down in game. Everything is probably set too high. I'm getting 60 on Re4 on 1080. Shadows affect performance the most. Start everything low settings and bump the stuff up that matters the most to you slowly until you like it. This thing won't run demanding games on high settings in 1080. I usually have to set most games low to mid. Turn off motion blur also. There is other settings that you don't need as well. Just tinker until your satisfied. Almost every setting will affect your fps. Most games have preset graphic settings also. You can try them and tinker from there.
Had to return mine... was getting extremely hot and had memory card slot issue.
