Just an FYI for anyone with this same issue: I tried using an aftermarket 100W charger with my ROG Ally and it kept saying it couldn't charge at full power and it wouldn't let me use the higher wattage you get when plugged in with the oem charger. The issue turned out to be the USB-C cable I was using with that 100W charger. I tested it with my USB-C power meter and noticed the cable was only capable of 60W, even though the charger is capable of 100W. Once I changed the cable out for one compatible with 100W, the Rog Ally worked perfect with the aftermarket 100W charger. It still only charges at 65W obviously, but the USB-C cables seem to mostly be capable of either up 60W, or up to 100W, there aren't many cables that are capable of exactly 65W.
If it’s a charger w multiple usb c ports make sure you only have 1 cable plugged in on your charger to get the 100w. If there is more than one cable even you charge only 1 device your charger assuming it’s a gan will split power again even if you only have 1 device charging. Hope it helps
@@batpixel This one works great for me. I recommend using a 140w multiport usb c so you can charge multiple devices at once. It will keep a 65w output on your primary usb c
Nice performance boost if you extend the page file in windows as well. I have upgraded mine to 4tb. So, dedicated 40g to the page file extension. This gave great results and a snappier OS. It did yield higher FPS in most titles I have played on the ROG as well. Enjoy! =D
My pc is collecting dust while my ps5 was sold the other day. I haven’t had this much fun gaming in years. With the rog I’ve been using gforce now 4080 and sheesh in all games epic settings and runs flawless high frame rates I just need to get a newer tv right now I have a 75 but it’s only 60fps
I’ve been thoroughly enjoying it too. I’m playing new games I’ve been wanting to try for a long time and it’s so convenient to have the option to jump in and out of EmuDeck and PCem for my retro games. My Xbox is an entertainment centre now lol
I'm thinking about using auto tdp app on the Ally that works on my gpd win 4 but it seems Asus already has a system in place which functions similarly as I check the real-time monitor the wattage goes up and down similar to the auto tdp app nevermind
ASUS has implemented a lot since this video was released. I’m actually releasing a new vid Saturday on some updates. But as far as the TDP app goes, I think it’s a great idea if it can provide you with better performance for certain games compared to what ASUS has implemented. Test both and see which works better for you
Hey man this video was great. Very informative. I will say that for me the best part was that you didn't just say do this or do that. You explained what we were doing and why it mattered so I am now more educated about the device not just how to change things. Thanks!
Hi sir, Is theres any chance to speed up for downloading games?? I just bought my rog but its so annoying to download coz it takes time like 7 hours or even 1 day😢
If you’re using an SD card try it on a computer. The only thing I can suggest for the ROG is turning off other wifi devices and any computers/game systems using your wired internet while you download. Maybe check with your router/internet provider if you can do something to increase wifi speeds. Maybe a wifi extender or something. I’m not too familiar with speeding up download speeds
Great channel,i'm waiting for my Rog to arrive.I had the Deck but returned it the next day as i really didn't get on with it .Would you say the sd card problems could be mainly user error as running the rog too hot ? I know the consumer shouldn't have to worry about temps but could damage be easily prevented by watching a few tip videos ?
Yeah you can prevent it and also the ASUS ROG Ally has a good warranty, so worst case scenario they will repair it for you if it happened. Also, I have 2 tips videos, but this Saturday I’m releasing a new video showing some of the latest updates for the Ally, so check it out for some new tips as well if you like
My system usage settings doesn’t contain a gpa settings option. Curious I followed the first tutorial. But seems different now I. Got mine and updated to the lasted . Maybe a week ago
They may have changed something in their updates. You should watch my updated ROG Ally video released in January 2024. You can do a lot in Armory Crate now instead and other places
I made a video on a good debloat software from GitHub. The video is a couple weeks old, but I downloaded the software in November: th-cam.com/video/AMZGBlViTWc/w-d-xo.html
Yeah I have some things in the works with the Ally but next month it’ll be 1 year since its release. So now would be a good time for me to start preparing another updated video for that. My last updated video was in January 2024
Can anyone please give me feedback why content warning does not work with device. I cant select inventory even when I set control but there is no option on how to select inventory unless a keyboard. Please help!!!
You should try contacting ASUS customer support to make sure you get your exact issue resolved. I would also suggest having a keyboard and mouse available for your device as it makes some specific tasks easier
I mean I scored on for 400 usd practically new and it plays a lot of aaa games 900p 40-60 fps so personally I think if you find on cheaper than a steam deck get it
Not sure if going above 30W is long-term good for such a small device. I cap mine at 25W plugged in and 15W on battery. Even at those caps, it blows my Deck away for PC games and especially PS3.
Are your in-game settings matching your ROG Ally's settings? Have you tried changing different CPU's? In Battlefield 2042 I change my ROG Ally over to 6GB and it works way better. You could also try 'Auto' is your CPU boost on? What about trying less frames per second like a 30 frame limit? You could try running at 60hz vs 120. There's lots of options to try. I'm sure people online have posted the best settings for that game as well
Someone commented recently that their settings for GTA V runs at 60fps using "used medium preset and with am free sync enabled" also, when I want to find good settings for a game, you can try searching online for "ROG Ally GTA V settings" and there should be lots of suggestions from people who test it
Thanks for sharing and taking us through all the different tweaks. The ROG Ally has so many different advance options that seems so daunting, and it's great having somebody knowledgeable walk those of us who want to squeeze more performance out of a pretty nice hardware system.
Thx for all these tips to a new rog ally owner. Really helpfull and straight forward. Not all this trendy, flashy youtuber sh#t. Subscribed and best of succes with the channel.
Thank you so much. I have an updated ASUS ROG Ally video releasing this coming Saturday afternoon that includes a few major updates they implemented from listening to the community. Definitely check it out 👍🏻 cheers
@@ezg8448 thanks mate really helped me out there. My Temps were through the roof and so I stopped using it. Is it true that universal doesn't do fan curves?
Honestly since the screen is small, lower res don't really affect the visual quality as much as if it were a tv. That's why I never play on 1080p only 900 or 720
The system is designed to go 30W while plugged in/docked. It will boost past that temporarily, but you're risking going beyond what it was designed for if you keep it above 30W all the time
Question: Hi. Did you do the uninstall all bloatware or customize list ? the fact that we earn something like one giga of ram after debloating, is it helpfull in game ? Fps or graphical improvement ? Or battery Life ? And if yes, So the video of a Guy saying that hé did not see any différence testing both tiny 11 and original rog Windows 11, is surely false ?
I have only seen videos of people clearing up their RAM after using debloat software. I may actually make a video on this soon. If you turn on your Ally, open ‘Task Manager’ and you can see you are using around half of your available RAM before you open anything. If you debloat it you should free up RAM that your games can use. Why take up the space for unused items anyway
There are a few things i find wrong here. One, these AMD chips are designed to run hot, and there is no reason to lower it from 95 C. . Also, cyberpunk is hardly a newer game, as its been out almost 3 years.
If you’re running it that hot you’re risking an issue with the SD card slot breaking cards on these devices. The conversation around the ASUS ROG Ally has been about lowering the temps since it released. Cyberpunk is still a challenging game to run. The viewpoint of it’s recent release date being considered a newer game or not isn’t the point
Almost Perfect video! The only thing that could make it better would be a solution to the slow download speeds. Regardless, this was very helpful. Thank you so much.
I’m glad this was helpful for you! I may look into it next month after I try a new dock, but if you find a solution to the download speeds please share 👌🏻

What if you got ssd and don’t care about sd? Do you still have to worry about temps

It’s worth testing the different values out. I use 6g now for Battlefield and it runs great

Good suggestion. Temps are risky on these devices. The handhelds they will release in the coming years after some trial and error will be insane
I run mine the same way . I run it at 25, 25 , 25 plugged in and 10 unplugged.
I'm new to it and petrified of it getting hot. 18 watts I'm cooler than 15 and tweaking settings it has played everything I've thrown at it.

Universal tuning utility is the bomb! I can get my old quiet fan curves back by using performance mode and jacking up the wattage to 30.
That’s awesome 😄👌🏻
What temps do you get?
That's why you disable cpu boost to keep temps 90 and under. With boost it'll stay at 95 and you'll get almost zero performance increase.
Like they mentioned, disabling CPU boost helps lower temps. I have a guide for that at the start of my previous video!
