Clint Walker was a true American icon. Love the Cheyenne program. We had real heroes in those days. No one was accused of 'toxic masculinity'. Hope he is in heaven riding the trails.

Clint Walker lived just a few miles from me in Grass Valley CA. I never met him but he was out and about and was always very polite to us. The so-called celebrities of today are nothing like him. He was quit a snow skier and was known to sky our local mountains!
Well he never found 'the role' to put him on superstardom. Also with big guys years ago stardom options were limited-Samson, Hercules, Tarzan-and that was it! Victor Mature, Steve Reeves, Reg Park all found that one magic part that put them on superstardom put alas Clint Walker never found it in his own career. So he remained a famous character actor.

Never mind, he left a legacy that most actors of his generation can't begin to match.
In a vintage magazine from the fifties an interviewer remarked on Clint honesty , regardless of what studio publicity wanted he told the truth . He was a down to earth man who never thought of himself as more important than anyone else . At least through many magazine interviews from that time you get a good idea of what kind of man he was . A kind gentle , intelligent man ahead of his time . He was right about food , exercise , being overworked and under rested . I’d have loved to meet him . For those of us who had less than pleasant childhood makes me wish he was my dad . Bless you Clint

Clint Walker was the real deal and very much a Hero, a Hero that we could use in todays world. Feel blessed that he was a part of my youth, then into my adult life. Remarkable man.
What a man! I'm 69 y/o and watched him when I was a boy. I loved his work on TV and now seeing him talking for real I can see what a humble, straight shooter (that's "honest" to the younger crowd) and good man he was in real life.

I always missed not seeing Clint Walker in more movies & TV. He was one of my all-time favorite actors on TV westerns, and he's held in high esteem. Other favorites include Steve McQueen & Dan Blocker. Johnny Crawford was also a favorite, and he was in Army Basic at Ft Ord, CA at the same time as I was, although I never got to meet him. It's sad that Chuck Connors is no longer with us, along with McQueen & Blocker. All good men. Thanks to Mr Walker for doing an interview. Made my day!!
This guy was truly Special. He was bigger than the Duke in stature and had this calm almost damned-sure, I'm a huge man, don't mess with me way of carrying himself. They have been re-running the Cheyenne series recently and I have really enjoyed following it, born in the 60s it's the first time I have watched it, Clint really played the part brilliantly they definitely picked the right person to play Cheyenne. He really came over as an intelligent gentle giant, he was a great character, and the show had many fantastic stories. I was also saddened to hear he has now also passed on in 2018 aged 90

What a remarkable story about changing Cecil B. DeMille's secretary's flat tire. Looks to spare, beautiful voice, and a good samaritan to boot. Must have made the best impression on the producer of The Ten Commandments. Sometimes you just have to wonder if there is a "guiding hand" in some of what happens around us and to us. Being a good-hearted, down-to-earth gentleman doesn't hurt, either. Clint Walker, we all love you!
Sad part was, he was supposed to get a speaking part on the 10 commandments, but the director said when he stood him next to every else to try a scene or something like that, he is quoted at say Mr. Walker made everyone look like stumps. Which personally I don't think was a good enough reason to demote someone just because they are tall? But egos probably got in the way there. Mr. Walker and Arness would have been awesome in a movie together. Sadly that never happened.

And he was basically discovered about that time I guess.. it's amazing is that he lived after his terrible accident with his skiing piercing his heart..! My dad was 6'8" - all my life, he was thought to resemble Clint Walker and Fess Parker! My dad talked, walked, & had the same characteristics of both men.

Let me say, when he had his chances to act outside the "box" of the signature Cheyenne Bodie role,he did well..some range shown..and to hear him speak candidly,honestly about his career is a treat ,thanks..and he enjoyed a long, rewarding life...what more could one wish for?

The Internet: I happened to click on an interview with Ron Ely ('60's TV Tarzan) where he mentioned Clint Walker with great reverence. I'm almost 50 so I missed this great period of TV westerns by about 15 years but, growing up in the '70's and 80's, I adored Bonanza and Big Valley reruns as a kid. I also knew Clint from movies, like The Dirty Dozen. This is a great interview. I loved his remarkably lucky story about his appointment with Cecil B. DeMille and the deep appreciation he had for his working TV horse, Brandy! He seems like a very decent guy.
I haven't listened to this interview yet, but I remember seeing him before I could hardly talk. The TV would be on and this immense, beautiful, still, male magnificence would present himself. I recollect the dark chords of that strong voice. - Did he ever sing? Anyway, when you're a babe, those kinds of "images" - actors on the screen, well, what I'm trying to say is that kids instinctively react to people in an intuitive way. Even just bouncing off the black and white TV rays, he made you feel safe.
Clint Walker always reminded me of the late Fess Parker who played Daniel Boone for 9 seasons on CBS. They look alike and talk alike. They could even pass for brothers.
What a lovely guy. I remember watching Cheyenne in the 50's. I wanted long straight black hair like Clint had so I could flick my head back and see it all go back into place as he did after a fight LOL.
I knew his twin sister for many years. Her son is about my age. I think that's probably her in the photo at 1:00 She was one of the nicest people I've ever known. You never saw her without a smile. She was a good artist too--a painter. Her husband ran the first health food store I ever saw. They went to my church when I was a kid, and I think Clint came a few times when visting, but I never got to see him.

I'm almost 50 so I missed this great period of TV westerns by about 15 years but, growing up in the '70's and 80's, I adored Bonanza and Big Valley reruns as a kid. I also knew Clint from movies, like The Dirty Dozen. This is a great interview. I loved his remarkably lucky story about his appointment with Cecil B. DeMille and the deep appreciation he had for his working TV horse, Brandy! He seems like a very decent guy.

I haven't listened to this interview yet, but I remember seeing him before I could hardly talk. The TV would be on and this immense, beautiful, still, male magnificence would present himself. I recollect the dark chords of that strong voice. - Did he ever sing? Anyway, when you're a babe, those kinds of "images" - actors on the screen, well, what I'm trying to say is that kids instinctively react to people in an intuitive way. Even just bouncing off the black and white TV rays, he made you feel safe.
Clint Walker always reminded me of the late Fess Parker who played Daniel Boone for 9 seasons on CBS. They look alike and talk alike. They could even pass for brothers.
I thought it was Parker in the dirty dozen for years.
Mom and I were faithful watchers of "Cheyenne" back in the fifties.
What a lovely guy. I remember watching Cheyenne in the 50's. I wanted long straight black hair like Clint had so I could flick my head back and see it all go back into place as he did after a fight LOL.

His meanest role was the character he played in the film White Buffalo with Charles Bronson . He never made enough films .
I knew his twin sister for many years. Her son is about my age. I think that's probably her in the photo at 1:00 She was one of the nicest people I've ever known. You never saw her without a smile. She was a good artist too--a painter. Her husband ran the first health food store I ever saw. They went to my church when I was a kid, and I think Clint came a few times when visting, but I never got to see him.
