Marty was great, but this song is more of a Chris song due to his excellent background vocals.
Kiko is an Amazing Guitar Player and lots of variety.. he had opportunity to learn lots of style before he came into Megadeth.
Marty left Megdeth because he wanted to broaden his Guitar Playing.. because all he do in Megadeth is Metal..
But unfortunately, when Marty left Megadeth.. he is always associated in Metal Guitar playing by his fans.. so.. yeah.. Marty is still playing Metal Stuffs.. a never left Metal Guitar Style until this day..

+Thexderx they tend to do that , yes... Also, in my particular case it hurts every time that guy tries to recreate a Marty Friedman solo, shit! I rather him try to come up with his own solos for those songs, he may be hitting almost all the right notes but there is a lot more to it than that. I am pretty sure he must be a good guitar player with solid knowledge but he does not sound good when trying to emulate Marty, probably the same scenario would happen if he tries to go Chris Poland (former megadeth guitar player also)
Yeah, watching them speed it up almost ruins the song for me. It's one of my absolute favorite tunes by Megadeth and the slow groove of the original style is a big reason it kicks ass.
I hate that they speed it up.
But, could you imagine being in his shoes? Trying to fill that spot that Marty had? Trying to recreate those solos.....has to be very, very tough.

well in my opinion its truth that Metallica is a more mainstream band, but in the world of heavy and trash metal, i think both Megadeth and Metallica are at the same level, both are great and i have huge respect for their members, specially Dave Mustaine and James. Love to Megadeth and Metallica...
Do numbers got anything with the quality of music? I think you don't get the concept of art, Paul. Mozart wasn't a money machine but he is one of the most respected musicians of all times. So Mustaine might be underrated, it doesn't change the fact. He's written lots of creative songs in both Megadeth and Metallica and he's way more talented than James or Kirk. So your argument is based on a butt hurt, I suppose.

Almost all metal bands do that live. Generally the drummer sets the tempo live. In the studio it's usually all recorded separately and then each part will be matched for BPM.

the only reason they're compared is because they are THE main bands in the thrash genre. plus Dave Mustaine was in Metallica before they were big and created megadeth as a way of revenge.

Um, I started out a Metallica fan. They lost me a long time ago. Seen them twice. 86 and 88. Megadeth has flattened Metallica in the metal realm imho! I made a comment on one of the new Megadeth songs, i regret. That his vocals were declining with age. I was wrong, I listened to two other records from 2008 and 2013, and his vocals are deepening a bit as compared to the last Megadeth record i bought in the mid 90's. But his vocals are still bad to the bone. Way better than Hetfield's tobacco laden screech vocals now.
Sorry, I will have to slam Metallica to praise Megadeth now. History baby.. Check it. Smile on Dave!

This band is always stayed true. Best thing about this gig and interview is that Dave says HE IS THE WEAK LINK in the band. AWESOME !! That is how much he thinks of his band.

Now, older and wiser, I look back at that and think to my self "those were/are some amazhing bands, what a time to be able to "choose" between bands like that". He's never been the best of any singers, and due to the amount of drugs and alcohol and abuse he put towards his body has only wrecked everything about him more.
However his talent for writing lyrics and music as a whole is still present, and he probably has the most distinct voice in metal.
Hmm that's a tough question. James sings a lot better but Dave is a better guitarist but that doesn't change that James is a good rythm player. My vote goes to James due to frontmanship when he is on stage he becomes god . Just watch Quebec Magnetic :) I still love them both though
No doubt Jeff is a very rhythmic guitarist...but if you are talking about speed intensity and overall talent as a guitarist Dave wins by a shit ton.
James is decent now and used to be much better. Same goes for Dave...drugs and age man...shit happens.

They seem to be playing this faster than usual.
It seems to me that they always play this song faster than the studio version.
And the tempo is wobbling
They make it a bit more exciting than the album I guess. Back in those times, Heavy Metal is the thing which not necessarily fast unlike in the early 80's which is Thrash Metal.
This is probably the tempo that they originally wanted but producers suggests to make it a bit slower.
Enter Sandman of Metallica was supposed to be faster as well.. but producers suggested to make it slower and make it heavier instead.

@@valcrist7428 when did I say Megadeth was better? Were you even around back then? Did you see them in concert in the ‘80s and ‘90s? Musically Megadeth became better technicians. Rust in Peace is well know to be one of the most technically better albums of the 90s when Metallica went into a more radio friendly direction under Bob Rock. Not many bands could touch Megadeth musicianship back then. I saw both bands live during those times.

Chris is no slouch. He wrote his best solos while playing with Jag Panzer. His work is outstanding on Mechanized Warfare, and especially Thane to the Throne.
Marty is self taught. He gave lessons to Jason Becker who in turn influenced Jeff Loomis. A self taught virtuoso himself who has upstaged Chris Broderick in their own band. Ask Loomis how he feels about Becker and Friedman. You'll find who was incorporated in Becker's latest album. Three of the four guys mentioned above are showcased on the album. Broderick isn't one of them. Friedman's playing was cleaner and more refined before he even played in megadeth than Brodericks was during his time in megadeth. Don't believe it, just replay the solo. Contrary to what Dave Mustaine says, Marty Friedman was and is the most talented individual to ever have played in megadeth. Dave just wants to be a dick and cut him (Marty) short.

Tzen- gzy At the time of Kick the Chair, Dave stated that he doesn't support playing seven strings or detuning , so Chris Broderick had to change his style when he joined
