Master of Puppets is a great album and it’s easier to hear bang to but for the quality of musicianship and lyrical content it’s not close. I’m also if the opinion that my Big for are Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Pantera. Anthrax should not be in the big 4 and Metallica influenced who the so-called Big 4 would be before they all started touring, which is why Phil Anselmo doesn’t care for Metallica much and has openly told James and company they should meet him anywhere all 4 of them and he would kick all their asses by himself. Anyways, if u like Rust in peace let me tell ya, u have so damn good taste in music. :)
Yeah but we wouldn’t have megadeath with Marty Friedman’s insane soloing... I also think there’d be too much creative differences for Metallica to reach the point it has today.
Dave is great and he written some fo the riffs but they were smart to kick out for two reasons the first is now we got to see both mustaine and kirk hemmit and megadeth and the 2nd if they would have kept him metallica probably weren't as legendery bc they kicked him bc he was always high and drunk and when he was drunk and high he was very violent and destroyed studio equipment of metallica and other bands in the studio
I'm a Megadeth guy, Dave Mustaine has been my guitar hero for a long time now...right behind Dimebag, but Metallicas riffs definitely sound "heavier" whereas Megadeths riffs are more musically creative. You can tell who the better musician is and it's clearly Dave but you can't take away early Metallicas sheer aggression with their riffs.
10 months later but you do realize that “early” Metallica is highly influenced by Dave’s faster style and his riffs which Metallica used on Kill em All and Ride the Lightning. There is video of James trying to teach Kirk Dave Mustaine’s riffs and spider chord and in the video James is frustrated because Kirk is having problems playing them. I honestly believe that if Metallica had never hired Dave back when they formed the band the Metallica that everybody knows would have either never existed or would have never made it this big because you can tell from “early” Metallica that Dave’s influence and the riffs they were using are the reason for their success and the proof is in that Dave immediately started his own band and his catalog is as good or better than Metallica
@@tonysoto8949 I'm pretty sure everybody know's that Dave only wrote 2 full songs (Mechanix and Jump in the fire) and contributed a couple of riffs to 4 other's. Dave isn't the SOLE reason "early" Metallica got big. If that was the case then Metallica would have folded after he was fired from the band. They did just fine without him. And this is coming from a huge Mustaine fan. Megadeth sounds nothing like early Metallica either. Dave himself said this..."I could have sounded JUST like those guy's if I wanted to, but I wanted to be something different".
@@FabioDish that would be the ultimate Thrash band.. But i still love Megadeth and I’m glad they existed, Metallica and Megadeth are two of my all time favorite bands and I honestly can’t pick who’s better
Metallica is a great band, and a great way for new people to get in to metal music. Then hit them with Megadeth when they’re ready for the real deal. Rust in Peace is arguably the greatest metal album of all times.
@@lightningmonky7674 Yeah. I’m sure. Dave Mustaine is arguably the father of thrash. Much of Metallica’s success was Dave’s influence on the band’s writing style. Megadeth’s lineup at the time of Rust in Peace topped Metallica’s in every way, including Marty Friedman, who is still one of the greatest guitarists alive. Metallica kinda peaked between Puppets and Justice. They gained mass popularity by softening their style to appeal to people who didn’t like metal. The black album wasn’t anything like what preceded it. It was just a regular rock album with heavy gain on the guitars, while Megadeth was still making thrash all the way up until Risk, which I feel was the result of Mustaine being frustrated with Metallica’s commercial success. As far as Thrash and Heavy Metal in general, you really can’t top Rust in Peace. It’s perfect in every way.
@@lightningmonky7674 I can see how some people don’t like Dave Mustaine’s voice stylistically, but others do, and every objectively measurable nuance of Rust in Peace is superior.
Megadeth won when Holy Wars came on... and then they put the final nail in the coffin with the start to the solo of Tornado of Souls. Edit: then wake up dead comes on.
leerobbo92 If I’m going to be honest, Metallica are good but Megadeth are in another league. Also, Daves riffs are all crazy good; the conjuring riff is pretty sweet I’ll give you that. But at 3 minutes is Tornado of souls?
Papa Wyatt I'm of the same opinion dude! And I meant 3 minutes into the Conjuring, it's my favourite riff of Dave's, nowhere near his most technical but the groove is so tasty!
@@deletedhero5579 that was a joke, Dave mostly wrote solos for Metallica, also how are you going to call the four horsemen and ride the lightning weak tracks?
That's an incorrect statement. I have heard all of the albums of both bands, and Megadeth is also insanely diverse and melodic. Starting with Countdown to Extinction, continuing with Youthanasia, then to Cryptic Writings, evolved into Risk, World Needs a Hero, The System Has Failed, United Abomination, Endgame, and finally to Thirteen. Listen to these albums, dude, and see how incorrect your statement is.
Awesome job, but what i would've been cool if ended with the metallica dude playing the four horsemen riff and the megadeth dude playing mechanix at the same time
I love both, in general I like most Metallica songs but Megadeth is something very special and unique. If I was a guitarist I would say Megadeth seems way more difficult
If you've ever watched the interview uploaded in 2006 between Lars and Mustaine, you'd learn that Mustaine loved the rest of the group. He saw them as an extended family, but without a second chance he was removed from the band. He only ever had his mom and them. They got rid of him because he was an aggressive raging drunk, but instead of helping him they just got rid of him like a pest instead of a friend/brother. They had great chemistry, especially with the writing and shows during the early 80's. I don't like to compare the two because they're both equally as great. Before anyone makes the argument: "Well Mustaine broke dreams and kicked band members out also"... Remember, he gave them not only second chances, but MULTIPLE chances. He didn't want them to experience what he had experienced, but it got to a point where no matter the amount of chances they wouldn't change. To this day Mustaine has incredible skills while playing live. Not to discredit Lars' or Kirk's skills, over the years their skills have depreciated and created some infamous failures. Even as a band they experienced failures/quality drops later on due to this lack of practice and chemistry. (Good examples would be their albums St. Anger and Lulu). In most recent live shows where Metallica had invited people from Kill Em All such as Dave Mustaine, they had clicked with increased speed and excitement. The chemistry hadn't been better in years. So before anyone makes a "Metallica vs Megadeth" or "James vs Mustaine" or any comment that revolves around a half-assed opinion or comment around WHY things happened in the band and how people's personalities are, do your research you dumb fucks. Thank you.
Its heartbreaking how Metallica just kinda threw him out. As Mustaine recalls it he never even got a warning let alone a second chance. However in that moment we got another spectacular metal band. Imagine no Megadeth and just Metallica. Megadeth keeps thrash alive wile Metallica rocks hard. Were kinda lucky in a crude way

Best part is when Metallica guy plays "Sad but true" and Megadeth guy gets bored and sleepy then replies with "Tornado of Souls" lol that was EPIC WIN !!! Same thing "Enter Sandman" vs "Hangar 18"
Exactly what was wrong with the video, he chose the simplest riffs for Metallica and put them up against Dave's best riffs from his prime, its hardly fair.
miguel thank u for this wonderfull video, I'm an 80s-90s kid and it was a running debate who is the better band among metal heads back then, I always wanted side by side comparisons, im sure there are many out there but im so happy to come across ur channel and hear it out ..... There is no answer to this they both deserve their place in metal history as legends. I would love to see both bands together on stage and hug it all out, to me as a metal fan child they are the parents who separated and without either of them we would only have 50% of the music
If there could be two bands in first place in my list, then it would be them. In my personal opinion I like Megadeth more than Metallica please don’t kill me
Hetfield wrote amazing lyrics, just the stuff off AJFA is exceptionally well written and meaningful, you can definitely have a preference but that statement on the overwhelming difference is dumb
Rodrigo Poppe lets be honnest megadeth take the longest of the three of metallica not even one riff megadeth played that shocked me even now and even when i was teenager, lets not speak about the vocals, mustain sounds like my grandpa trying to learn metal vocals..come on dude metallica play aggresive riffs evil riffs violent riffs what metal is about at all...if megadeth would beat in something metallica that would be just the techique and the musicians are just better players, but that is not what we talkon about at all...get over it ..
Megadeth is more fast than Metallica , and also without Mustaine's creations they would not have debuted as they did, Metallica owes a lot to Megadeth.
I read many comments here. But what I feel is megadeath riffs are faster and may be technically advanced, but not that catchy as Metallica. More of metallicas riffs are heavier, catchy, and pleasant to hear. But if Dave was not kicked out then we have had something amazing that just cant be imagined. Literally
djwrox94 Was just talking about a co worker about that. Dave is a more technical player, but there’s just something about James’s playing that does it.
And the heaviest and darkest Megadeth riff did not appear. Nothing from Metallica can get close to the power of the Conjuring riffs, every single time I run into that song it gives me Goosebumps, absolutely astonishing.
this is soooo stupid... dave had nothing to fo with their best work.... he didnt write a damn thing on MoP, and not even their best stuff from kill em all or ride the lightning....

@@apocalypse3485 subjective to fans of a particular band. For example a Metallica fan would say Master of Puppets is the best album of the Big 4. I’m a fan of all genres including thrash metal but I know when I hear songs from Rust in Peace compared to songs from Master of Puppets it’s not close how much better Rust in Peace as a whole is. Megadeth. Holy Wars is one the most epic metal thrash songs. Love Metallica, but they should have kept Dave. Could you imagine the riffs?
But if they kept Dave, Megadeth wouldn't have existed
Yeah but we wouldn’t have megadeath with Marty Friedman’s insane soloing... I also think there’d be too much creative differences for Metallica to reach the point it has today.
You know why Metallica sucked after the Black Album?
.

They ran out of Dave's Material.
Eh Holy Wars is okay, Megadeth is cool and all but I prefer Metallica
I'm a Megadeth guy, Dave Mustaine has been my guitar hero for a long time now...right behind Dimebag, but Metallicas riffs definitely sound "heavier" whereas Megadeths riffs are more musically creative. You can tell who the better musician is and it's clearly Dave but you can't take away early Metallicas sheer aggression with their riffs.
🤘😉🤘
It's literally Blues vs Jazz

Metallica is a great band, and a great way for new people to get in to metal music. Then hit them with Megadeth when they’re ready for the real deal. Rust in Peace is arguably the greatest metal album of all times.
You sure you ain't got that backwards

Megadeth won when Holy Wars came on... and then they put the final nail in the coffin with the start to the solo of Tornado of Souls.

Didn't even have to play the Conjuring, which for my money has the best riff Dave's ever wrote in it. The one that starts about 3 minutes in.

Yeah I mean listen to "Poison is the cure" that riff could be considered somewhat of a solo lol
