I'm 34 years old, and I will still sometimes look at my wife and say, "Do not, tell me what I can and can not do when I rock!" And she looks at me like, "What?" cause she's never heard this song.
John Rueben was the 1st concert I ever seen as a teenager in 2000. I didn't even know who he was. I had nothing better to do on a tuesday night. Do not came on and the crowd went wild. At the end of the concert everybody was screaming DO NOT DO NOT! So he played one final song of the night- do not. That moment in the crown waving my arms up and down to "do not" was so live- so amazing! I bought his cd the next day and been a huge fan ever since!
I remember seeing this music video when I was around 9 yr old. It would come on Saturday mornings on regular public t.v. where I live. I would wake up and be waiting for this song!
when I was 12, I went to a concert at franks house of rock in Des Moines Iowa John Ruben pulled me on stage and handed me the mic, he planted a seed that now has grown into a fruitful tree that I and my community now enjoy all of its fruit!!!!!!! DO NOT CAN TELL ME WHAT I CAN AND CAN NOT DO WHEN I ROCK thank you john Ruben for changing the world !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
John dear, thanks for being the coolest most fun thing that ever happened in my tiny Christian high school in the early 2000's. Besides me, of course. :P
The part where he’s being interviewed by the reporter ... seems like those lyrics are like quicksand... gets deeper and deeper over the years. I’ve been in a “spiritual reset” the last few years (partly from hearing John Crowder and C Baxter Kruger), and it’s awesome that these lyrics are like progressively revealed facets of a diamond.
@@nuggetsoftruthrockministry9301 there are times in which something we read in Bible are so revelatory, and the light of the Holy Spirit is illuminating us in greater degree that it creates a new paradigm
i've listened to Jhn Reuben sence forever this has been my favorite song sence forever Im 13 and i've had this song memorised sence i was four! im in love with this song
I saw this video in the early 2000s at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. l remember maybe 5 years later searching vehemently for this song and artist. If I remember correctly, I was even pretty close on his name, but it still took weeks of determination to find. Today, I did not remember his name, so I can't believe how easy it was to find with only the hook! It took less time than it took me to type this comment.
I JUST SAW HIM LIVE AT CAMP COVENENT CEDARS AND HE WAS AMAZING!!!!! me and my friends got on the stage and danced with him and we did stanky leg and you HAVE to see him live.. youll have one of the best times of your life
I actually googled the hook of this classic coz I was so young when it came out. 2002 or 03? I was like 11 or 12? But damn...it brings back sweet memories
Favorite lines from this song: 1. "Not knowing is an excuse for those unwilling to learn" 2. "I create for the creator, not to impress you" 3. "I got ot be who God created me to be."
#1 is just plain lack of logic. You can't learn something until you recognize that you don't know it. Otherwise, you aren't aware that it exists to be learned. No human being can learn EVERYTHING, no matter how willing they are. We have to prioritize what we are going to learn, even though we may be willing to learn more if only there were time to learn it all. I'm completely willing to learn how to play the guitar, but right now I have to prioritize learning how to use some new programs that I need to use for work. And as for #2 and #3, well... you go ahead and drink your grape Flavor-Aid. It doesn't hurt me at all. 😂 Also #3: Are you unwilling to learn that there is no such word as "ot", or do you just not know?
Mos def, no doubt. I saw John more than a few times. Always a good show, but once he started having cd's, i felt like it had less of what i liked the further he went. I appreciate him very much either way. My mom and my sister and I would go everywhere to see him and had him play at our church we went to in lancaster once. Such a great guy. What a showcase.
This dude use to get played in my sunday school classes! I saw him live at a convention in ohio when i was a kid, well a convention i don't remember if it was ohio, he had kids come frrestyle on stage
i've listened to John Reuben all my life this has been my favorite song sence forever Im 13 and i've had this song memorised sence i was four! im in love with this song
Some guy I worked with 20+ years ago was into this, I still think of it occasionally. I can't remember his name. Is this christian rap? He and his wife went to bible college instead of regular college so I kind of just assumed everything he did was christian.
Steven Curtis Chapman's "Got 2 B Tru" came along yeeeears earlier, and that was pretty awesome. And 2/3 of DC Talk is white. And I grew up hearing a lot of Beastie Boys on my older sister's tape player. And a lot of people have been devoted to Insane Clown Posse since the 1980s (I don't care for them, myself). Point is, there are loads and loads of white rappers that were very much loved LONG before this ice cream man.
lack of understanding lack of communication lack of a desire for expanding education lack of inspiration lack of innovation the fact you can't respect another mans creation lack of motiviation lack of restoration the fact we lack unity and enjoy separation lack of destination because you know what I feel I feel that humans lack the ability to be real
Anyone who is saying hes obviously a drug dealer didnt listen to a single word of the song and completely missed the point.........too many times your shallow mind will get you caught.....

He was my first as well but at creation festival in 2002. I know what you mean about waving our arms. Was amazing! Wish he still made music.
This was my childhood anthem in my fourth grade

Old school Reuben. i grew up on this song.

“You may not like me I still say God Bless You”! The best lyrics!!
Randomly woke up with his songs in my head! So glad to get back to this artist! So much fun!
i feel old for returning back to this video
As a child I listened to john Rueben and still is my jam
So, Mathew 28:19 tells us to preach the gospel. Thats the only awesome reason we're here. Remember this folks.
My just mom asked, “He your remember that do not song?” And I said, “ Do I?!?!?!” And here I am at 33 introducing my 6 year old to Jon Reuben :-)
Amen
I will too
Wow this song ... just popped up in the sportify randoms ... I remember it very well when growing up
Forgot about this. Used to watch this as a kid. Glad I came back to this.
Him being only 20 here and me being 32 now just shows how fast this 00s is flying by
I worked at the imperial palace front desk in 2004...checked john Reuben's cousin into the hotel, lol.
God bless ❤
Idk why this popped into my head today but man this takes me back!!
20 YEARS of this song and album "Are We There Yet?"! Isn't that crazy?!?!
A elementary school music teacher that was a old lady showed me this song. I think my dad even got the cd.
This and the Doin video are the some of the greatest music videos of all time
Man this guy can flow!!!
☝ awesome John 👍

John reu was my first Christian rapper I ever really saw or became a fan of.
Where is he now?
He's on Twitter trying desperately to look like he's not a has-been.
I remember John Reuben coming to East Jordan way back in the day. That was in northern Michigan lol so dope
I’ve been looking for this song for about ten years! I saw it late night on fuse tv years ago. Only thing I could remember was the ice cream truck.
