In the age of Covid 19 & being trapped in the house it was great to see a video with all these people close together and hear all the friendly banter on the train. It seems like ages ago now. All my old hoods look great and this was amazing on my giant TV screen! Williamsburg Bridge is holding up well!
Thanks for posting these great videos. I lived in NYC 20 years ago before moving upstate. I never realized how much I missed riding the subways. Never thought I was a rail fan but I guess I am.
I ride the R9s on the holiday specials that they have every year, during the months of November and December. This train runs on the F line from 2nd Ave in lower Manhattan to Queens Plaza on the E line, from 10:00am to 5:00pm. I remember riding the R9s back in the 70's on the A,CC,LL and J lines. The straw seats, the over fans, that loud compressor and Whirrrrrrl sound along with the smoke coming from the brake pads and the burnt synthetic oil, brings back a lot of memories. Long live the R9s, (a.k.a "The Smoky Joe's").
I grew up in the Marcy projects in the 60s and 70s and this brought back memories. I cannot find the front view of the G train on youtube. Maybe your future project. Thanks for posting these videos.

Great video! I spent a lot of time on the M line going to high school at CTK..and also taking the line numerous times over the Williamsburg Bridge to hang out in the Lower East Side and the Bowery. I honestly miss the original route of the M when it would run down to Bay Parkway on the D line during weekday rush hours.
Can anyone tell me at 11:40 the train approaches a left-hand curve, did the line previously continue straight ahead, it looks as though it did at some stage judging by the infrastructure. I'm not a local I live in Australia and are "R1-9s" 5 car sets heritage trains? Thanks for posting this video.
The Myrtle ave. el originally went to downtown Brooklyn. That portion of the line was closed in 1969. The R1-9 cars are original IND subway cars from the 1930's.
Great video. I'm amazed at the condition at some of the portions of the elevated tracks during the first half of the video. The stations look nice, but everything else looks like it hasn't been touched in years. Also I'm surprised there's still a huge piece of that abandoned elevated line still there. Is it structuarally important to the line or did they just never feel a need to take it down?

Sometimes you can still hear that. As far as I know the brake valves have not been swapped out. I also stopped recording when we were stopped at stations to save battery and memory, so the sounds may have occurred in that timeframe.

Compared to the Tube in London, the subway in Berlin, or any other subway in the world, the NY City subway is so slow. I've heard in was a long standing union slow down, the terrible condition of the subway infrastructure or any other reason you can come up with. Any honest reason for the slow trains? thank you. By the way, am not referring to this particular video.
It's not. The reason it seems so slow is because the camera is so close to the front. It creates an effect that makes it seem slower than it is. If you're able to ride the trains yourself, you'll be able to see the trains at their regular speed.

This the MTA train, I never ride on since my mom and I were going somewhere to Downtown Brooklyn to ride only the trains that can be close to home.

Have the MTA repainted the station signs? Always had problems reading the old ones . And even replaced clickey - clack track

The dates and times that the R1s are running are posted online, usually on railfan forums, the MTA website, and/or the Transit Museum's facebook page.
