i love how these mini docs kind of feel like satire. melee docs love to make these story lines feel epic but these make them seem so ordinary but weird enough to be interesting.
Amazing video, makes me wanna share a personal story: This is back in 2015; I'm a Dr Mario player, and I had the same absolutely vitriolic hate but for Marth. We'd host a national tournament in London every month or so called Kickstart, and 2 weeks before Kickstart 2 I got knocked out of locals by a Marth player. Absolutely fuming about it, I decided all I was doing for the 2 weeks leading up to it was figuring out Marth. I was on smash ladder, at the locals, only playing against Marth, taking notes about Marth, and malding about Marth. Come to the national, and I get put in a pool with... only Marths. I lose to the top seed, but beat the pants off every other Marth in my pool and make it into bracket for the first time in my life. I'm absolutely over the moon about it, and go get a sandwich to relax and wait for bracket proper to start. I get back to the venue, sit in the communal area by the friendly setups, and suddenly I hear behind me: "Dude Doc's down smash is so broken." I turn around, and it's one of the Marths I beat from my pool, playing friendlies. He doesn't realise I'm there, and I get to listen to a Marth player complain about my character the way I always complain about theirs. A sandwich has honestly never tasted so good ☺️
Flashback to SCL2 week 2, Wizzrobe fighting Zane, best Marth and best player in the world. No prep, no sweat. There's only one Marth that Wizzrobe fears, and he's confined to the midwest.
He must have a friend that mains falcon like I do. I've been fighting falcon like he's my archenemy for like 15 years, even across multiple smash games
Marth players getting Falcon throw combo'd with literally every different arial because they can't DI: "God Falcon is so lame and braindead" Marth players doing a combo invented in 2004 that's 7 fairs in a row to a guaranteed dair: "Damn I'm so custom"

But it’s another thing to say that Falcon is lame because of his moveset and play style. Understandable if you assumed that I think Falcon is lame with the reasons you mentioned. If you want a quick tl;dr on my opinion on Falcon, he's both cool and lame depending on the MU and player. I find him a little more lame as I'm biased to have a bad MU against him, and seeing people overly hype him for some simple stuff has made me think him a little overrated in term of hype.

That mini rant was very vindicating as a falcon hater. For years the narrative has been that not only is falcon the coolest character in the game, but that he's underpowered, so that falcon players could do guaranteed shit and then act like the underdog when a sheik techchases them to death. Wizzrobe is my favorite falcon for being the "lamest" yet being far and away the best for such a long period of time.
This really highlights the difference between playing and spectating. As someone who exclusively spectates I still like him. Stomp knee is stupid but it’s fun to watch.
As always, fantastic mini-doc, but something caught me off guard: it wasn't until Rubicon 8 that an Illinois player won the Chicago regional. As someone from northern Indiana, why don't Chicago, and to a lesser extent Ohio, have better Melee scenes? Whenever there's a regional crew battle series at a large tournament, it's always Michigan players who carry our region. KJH, Duck, Ginger, etc. Chicago's the third largest city in the US, and Ohio has a surprisingly high population. So why aren't there more great or really good players from those states? It's always puzzled me.

As a Marth main both historic and current, this matchup is definitely very frustrating at times. Despite this, I highly enjoy the matchup. My favourite part of the matchup is that both characters can beat the fuck out of each other. It is directly because of this that I regard the matchup as 60-60. Both characters have an advantage, and matches can feel like a tennis game with all the back and forth of stocks. (Also yeah I know 60-60 doesn't make sense, it's half a joke)
Great content. It's funny, when I was a Falcon player I always enjoyed this MU. Now i play Marth and Falco. I can understand why falco players would dislike Falcon, but it seems silly a Marth player would
I think the reason why a lot of players hate falcon these days is that a lot of newer players and people who don't know a lot about the game think that falcon is cool because his animations are cool, like he's playing a whole nother game than the rest of the cast. When the truth is falcon really is just playing the same melee as everyone else.
That doesn't mean it's not okay for newer players to like falcon for his cool animations, it's just that as you play the game more, it's harder to focus on those animations more than the game that you're playing.
I think falcon's defense and recovery lack a bit compared to the other top tiers. So its fun watching falcon mains try to fan the flames in neutral, and capitalize on their punishes.
Captain falcon in melee is actually my favorite character in any fighting game, I just love how balanced he is I actually think he's the only character in melee that is juuuust right like, his strengths are good and well defined, and his weaknesses are the same and it's what I love about fighting games. I hate fighting games where every character is the god damn same(like ultimate where everyone is a fucking floaty and everyone has a good recovery, and everyone has a 3 frame jump squat except ONE) so balance wise, my favorite character. I see falcon as a lot like a grappler but with a fast ground and air speed which is something you really don't see and I love it. My favorite characters have always been the struggles in neutral, really tanky, really hard to kill grapplers who destroy you on impact and I think falcon emphasizes that roll really well, basically if you ever see how fab the guilty gear player takes Potemkin and just absolutely makes it a slog to kill him while he touches you once and you die is what I love.
Nah Falcon will always be hype He has flashy combos and gets comboed super easily by the entire cast, and his recovery is hilariously bad. How can you not root for him?

I think the reason why a lot of players hate falcon these days is that a lot of newer players and people who don't know a lot about the game think that falcon is cool because his animations are cool, like he's playing a whole nother game than the rest of the cast. When the truth is falcon really is just playing the same melee as everyone else.
That doesn't mean it's not okay for newer players to like falcon for his cool animations, it's just that as you play the game more, it's harder to focus on those animations more than the game that you're playing.
I think falcon's defense and recovery lack a bit compared to the other top tiers. So its fun watching falcon mains try to fan the flames in neutral, and capitalize on their punishes.

Captain falcon in melee is actually my favorite character in any fighting game, I just love how balanced he is I actually think he's the only character in melee that is juuuust right like, his strengths are good and well defined, and his weaknesses are the same and it's what I love about fighting games. I hate fighting games where every character is the god damn same(like ultimate where everyone is a fucking floaty and everyone has a good recovery, and everyone has a 3 frame jump squat except ONE) so balance wise, my favorite character. I see falcon as a lot like a grappler but with a fast ground and air speed which is something you really don't see and I love it. My favorite characters have always been the struggles in neutral, really tanky, really hard to kill grapplers who destroy you on impact and I think falcon emphasizes that roll really well, basically if you ever see how fab the guilty gear player takes Potemkin and just absolutely makes it a slog to kill him while he touches you once and you die is what I love.

He has flashy combos and gets comboed super easily by the entire cast, and his recovery is hilariously bad. How can you not root for him?
