  • A set of tracks on your ATV can turn it into a true four season ALL terrain vehicle with the ability to go anywhere. Are they the right thing for you?
    There are lots of ATV Tracks Reviews online. In this video, I'll discuss some of pros and cons of ATV tracks, using the Camso T4S Track system for an example.
    Bloopers at end of video.

    Great video Dave, you’ve got a real knack for this type of video. Love the fast pace and no BS. Contemplating tracks for my Griz. They’d be handy around the farm for chores and running the dogs but I’m not sold for all the reasons you highlighted. Thanks to you I’m still on the fence, leaning a bit more to the wheel side. I love my mud tires.

    In Idaho they are good in spring time when snow drifts prevent atv's from getting through the drift and the distance between drifts is too far apart to allow a snowmobile. They are also great in really muddy road conditions as they wont tear the road up like a vehicle does. I dont find them any fun to use but great to have when you need to access some place that is difficult. Great video Dave and good subject to talk about. They have come out with a set of tracks with huge lugs and a bigger foot print that is made for deep power snow.

    Are there any particular models, brands or size motors of any ATVs to look for if wanting to put tracks on an atv for the winter? I am buying an atv for hunting but want to know if I should look into certain ones since I wanna use tracks?

    • @MyOldSled
      @MyOldSled  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not much i didnt say in the video. You want plenty of power. Power steering isnt a bad idea when turning tracks. I’d always avoid the non-name Chinese models.

    Do the new power steering systems eliminate the extra force needed for steering, also will the extra steering force put undue wear on one of the new power steering systems causing premature failure

    • @MyOldSled
      @MyOldSled  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not eliminate, but they no doubt help. It’s still much harder to steer. I would have to say there would be increased wear and tear. They are definitely something to buy if you need them.

    Question, when having tracks on do you need to be in 4 wheel drive or can you stay in 2 wheel until 4wd is needed?

    • @MyOldSled
      @MyOldSled  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am not positive, but i would say 4 wheel drive. Steering in 2wd is worse, and Camsos site references tracks for 4x4s.

    • @MyOldSled
      @MyOldSled  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Tim. Well, all I can say is the only track systems I’ve used have been manufactured by Camso and I’ve found them to be of excellent quality. Of course how long anything lasts depends on how its used, maintained and the environment in which it functions. But I don’t see any particular deficiency in the manufacture of their product.

    • @MyOldSled

    • @MyOldSled

      Hey Dan. You’re right I didn’t. I never think that much about fuel on my sleds or atvs as I don’t use as much as in my truck, and on the farm we need what we need. It will depend on the ATV, and The type of track and where and how you use it, but they will decrease fuel efficiency as they are heavier and harder to turn than wheels. Thanks for watching.

    • @gord7025

      @@MyOldSled I bought mine for deep snow floatation. They make the gearing much lower so you are basically running flat out all the time

  • @2500vtg
    @2500vtg 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just cannot believe that anybody would think tracks on a ATV or UTV are a good idea. These machines were designed and engineered for use with wheels and tires. The traction offered by tracks is vastly greater than anything the meanest of tires could approach. While that may be seem like the real ticket for going through deep snow or mud, it is certainly not great for the driveline of the machine. It should be abundantly obvious to anyone that installing this sort of a setup on a machine that wasn't designed for it from the get go is going to cause you a lot of grief in the long run. Things like drive shafts and clutches are not going to like you for doing this to your ATV . Oh sure, you'll be fine for awhile but you will definitely be throwing lots and lots of hundred dollar bills out for repairs to your machine before too long

    • @MyOldSled
      @MyOldSled  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my opinion, definitely something you buy when you need to have them. Thanks for watching.
