    I have the grouser tracks on my skidsteer , they are a godsend in the mud , you can go anywhere, but when the snow flies here in western NY I take them off and put chains on, they don't do well in snow unless im missing something!

    • @MrFakit

      I have grouser too, they are fine in snow, terrible on ice. When I first got them it took me about 1 hour to put them on, now I can do it in 15-20 min

      They just spin in the snow. If you ever have to re do your treads use the rubber coated ones and then you will be able to use the tracks in the snow.

    One thing I've learned after installing grouser tracks several times is to air down the tires before you install. You can install them somewhat loose. Once you air back up they tighten right up. They are still a pain but it makes it a lot easier.

    When I put our Grouse tracks on I drive the loader onto the tracks until there is one pad behind the rear tire, then I attach a chain to that pad and run it over the tire to the bucket. If you do it right you can slowly pull ahead while raising the bucket and use it to pull the track over the tire.

    kind a wish my tracks were lighter like the ones you have, mine are more like real dozer tracks. heavy as crap. 2 inches of sag. it's that time for my to adjust them. pressure washed them sat. not sure if i'm going to take them off and adjust or try it on the machine. i use my small john deer with forks to lift the track on. heavy tracks are nice if your tracking in dirt. but not nice on the machine.

    Helpful hints take a 2*4 and cut it to the length of gap in between tires set it in the middle of tires . That way your track are in line with each other. The use a piece of rebar or whatever will work for the bolt size to help pull them together. Just put a set of grouser tracks cast iron ones on my landlord 773 bobcat

  • @dumptruck487
    @dumptruck487 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I always hook my ratchet up on the front of the front tire and rear of the rear tire. Get them ratcheted and roll the machine back and forth a few feet. Takes a the slack up on the ground side. Then put a board between the tires to help support the track while bolting them together. I can get a set on in about 15 minutes now.

    I have a set of the Tracks plus on a Bobcat 743. It will go through the mud, where without them You would not be able to move. I have to run them alot tighter than You have them on the Cat, or the tires will spin inside them. To get them tight enough I let the air out of the tires when I put them on, then pump them up. One problem with the Tracks plus You can't run them in the snow. They will grow into one big ball. They said that when I bought them. I found out they were right. That metal does wear also. They say the bolts are 9 grade. Never heard of that before. But they still wear. I've got about 500 hours on them. I have to keep adjusting them up every so often. Don't regret buying though. They make 100% difference.

    When your tensioning the tracks it can help to drive the machine forward and backwards 6" to work the slack out of the bottom side. Whenever I take our tacks off (usually once a year) I like to split them at a bolt in the loose position so when I put them back on I can put the bolt in the inner position to tighten the tracks slightly.

    Try turning the tracks upside down in a straight line, dive up to it, hook your strap up to the end, wrap it over voth tires, back up and drag the track over the wheels and keep goin till you have the track under both wheels and you can hook em together. Did this on wheeled harvesters/forwarders for years. Can do it by yourself in the middle of the night in -10. Takes 20 mins for a pair

    Flip the tracks over when on the ground in front of the skid steer. Hook a chain to the end grouser. Pace the other end of the chain over both tires of the skid steer, tucking the excess chain under the rear tire. Back the skid steer up on top of the chain. The chain will pull tight, continue backing pulling the tracks over the tires until the grouser ends meet up. Attach your tensioner at this point and drive back to gain access to attach the links. No need to lift heavy tracks.

He was using a tool to do and and fighting the thing fierce when his arm slipped off and hit the tracks breaking it. Use a 1/2 poly rope from the rear track and over both tires to the front(first drive the front tire forward onto the rope once over both tires) tires the back end to the track. (Both sides at the same time once you know how to)
    The drive forward to haul the track over to the front top tire. To can remove the rope in between the tires once done.
    The rachet the track a bit. Reverse the skidsteer so the open end in in between the tires to set your slack and or bolt in on with out slipping after your rachet it tight to bolt holes.
    Just advice. They are heavy.

They say that treads will leave less of an imprint than tires on a skid steer. Would that also be true when you mount these steel treads over the tires?

    If the tracks are heavier, they will have more sag with the same amount tension.

    Me: You're using the spanner backwards!
    Stoney Ridge Farmer 3 seconds later: Tell me we're using the adjustable wrench backwards.
    Me: LMAO

    that weird ratchet strap thing on the 1st set looked like a bad joke. seems like a standard 2 inch ratchet strap with hooks would be better.

    U didn't do anything wrong, but 30 years of putting tracks on my machines I've figured a few things out. If u have help, have one guy drive the machine on to the tracks and other guy rolls track right up around tire, no slack and less weight to pick up.

    I'm surprised that they don't powder coat those tracks to at least make them semi rust proof.

      @StoneyRidgeFarmer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      would be a total waste...the minute they hit dirt they'd be stripped of powder coating

    from my experience in heavy equipment over the years, these style units wear out the tires quicker and are a cheaper option but still a band aid compared to real tracked skid steer. if they get side pressure they can cause a lot of tire damage, inch and half to three inches is hard to maintain and harder to adjust compared to real tracked vehicle. for temporary use they are costly and cause replacement tires being necessary. a true tracked vehicle the tracks last much longer, are easier to adjust, and pricey to replace but they last a lot longer than tires. they don't have the traction of real tracks and if out of adjustment they can be damaged and need costly repair. and an option I wouldn't use them . also metal tracks can't be used on hard surfaced roads.

    Why do you join the 2 ends in the empty space between tires, fighting the gravity that pulls both of them down when you can do it over the top of one of the tires (moving forward or backward that current position)

      The open area is necessary to run the bolts through the connecting links and secure with nuts.
