    you should have put the tracks on the 570 so it shows how much the tracks really do help as follow with the 570 and if it makes it through everything even with less power it'll show how great tracks are.

    I duck and goose hunt all the time and I've seen Rangers with tracks just bog straight down in rice feilds and Rangers with aftermarket mud tires go right through it I think it's the weight of the tracks and lack of floatation.

    My boss had a setup almost identical to this, it was 25k all said and done, UTV and track kit, and it was AMAZING!!! For about 15 minutes, right up until we got some rocks and dank mud in between the tracks and drive wheels, and shredded the track to bits. Then we had to walk 5 miles out, fuckin suckfest good luck carrying a spare track, and at 1000 per track its all ouchies all day. He sold it a few weeks later for a lil more than half what he spent!!!!

      Exactly...the ridiculous cost of these toys then the additional cost of those tracks is a huge waste. I had a Yamaha Rhino 700 that I had in far nastier places than they ran that Ranger with tracks and I didn't have tracks on the Rhino and it didn't have any issues at all. Its all in knowing how to drive and paying attention to where you are going and not heading for the middle of a damn swamp that anyone with common sense would simply drive around rather than try to drive through...doesn't matter what you are driving once you lose traction and start floating your tracks or tires aren't going to do any good. I got rid of my Rhino and just bought a compact 4WD pickup for $1,000....Came with a cab, heat, ac, power steering, 5k towing capacity, radio, and best of all a manual transmission. For what one of those toys cost you can get a damn nice used pickup or SUV. Granted I had to do a little work on my $1,000 truck, but nothing you wouldn't need to do on a used vehicle, just regular maintenance items and added a winch and new all terrain tires, goes everywhere my Rhino went but a hell of a lot cheaper and I think I get slightly better fuel economy than what my Rhino got...people think those ATV's and UTV's get pretty good fuel economy, they don't, in most cases they get worse than a full size truck...my Rhino was lucky to hit 10mpg and that was completely stock with the factory wheels and tires and no load in the bed, pretty pathetic even my 88 F250 pulling a trailer can get 10mpg.

      +Sam Martin - When he explained why they used an 800 and a 570, I thought, "That makes sense. Someone will buy according to power vs work load." And then I thought, "If they didn't adjust, there's be the guys in comment huffing & puffing about "You can't put tracks on a 570 and compare it. It changes the power vs the work load!" But look now... we still have the comment experts huffing and puffing anyway.

    Tracks are the most efficient means of prematurely destroying your atv or sxs. They put excessive stress on suspension, steering and driveline components.

    • @stevesevenlakes4589
      @stevesevenlakes4589 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hope not...I feel that if they are setup right, maintained and only used in snow - AND if you drive to preserve your machine...all you're doing is burning more gas and possibly a bit more stress on the belt.

    What if I want to ride from a street to a trail? How long can tracks last on the road?

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tracks don't hold up to running on paved roads, even gravel roads and rocks eat them up pretty fast, and for the ridiculous price for a set of tracks you can buy many sets of tires. If you are in nasty stuff all the time a set of tire chains is a hell of a lot cheaper and pretty simple and quick to install and remove unlike tracks. At least with tires if you have one that gets punctured it can easily be fixed on the trail, break a track or otherwise damage it beyond just putting it back on and you are stuck there.

  • @tcv4

    To be fair though those are stock tires being compared to 4000$+ tracks. For that much money I could have an atv to complement my utv, 4 or more sets of really aggressive tires, or if I really needed tracks, I could have just bought an argo and saved a bunch of money. Idk, I'm sure that these are super useful to some, but that's just it, it's an extremely niche market.

      my neighbors just bout a 2014 with cab and tracks but even though the price was steep it was worth every penny. But I still question why the tracks and he said because he goes ice fishing. That would be a good reason and even when i ride around on their yard with them that thing is literally a mini tank. Going up and down 20 ft ditches that have a 40-45 degree incline, 3 feet deep of snow, and 3 people in the cab and 3 in the bed. IT IS A TANK.

    • @gregrowe1168
      @gregrowe1168 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I think the tracks are just too expensive, I don't think they will sell very many of them, which probably doesn't help lower the cost either. There are very few people like your ice fishing buddy with enough money to buy them or really need them. For most people, tracks zap too much power and make a sporty vehicle like the ranger 800 feel like a big turd. If you want to go faster than probably 25 mph, then you have to go back to regular tires as the tracks have no high speed stability. They're so limited in what they can do and although they do it very well, there's just no versatility. You can buy a set of very aggressive tires with wheels for probably around $1000 and that will be sufficient for 99% of users and will be much easier to change out as well, simple as removing a few lug nuts. Honestly, how many people REALLY need to get through 3 feet of snow. If you do manage to get it stuck, then you probably will need a larger vehicle with tracks to pull you out like a Caterpillar or an actual tank.

    I have both tracks and tires. The only places tracks are better than tire are in deep mud and deep snow. The rest of the time, like on trails and crossing areas like big logs, etc. tracks are a nuisance. And yes, I burn MORE than twice as much gas with the tracks on. And, the loss of SPEED and extra strain on the engine by high revving trying to get to top speed.......... well I won't even go there. My machine is a 660 Grizz. but it doesn't matter, even with a 450 or anything, the same problem exists. That center wheel (on the tracks)that bolts on the machine with the cogs on it is too small and it has to turn too often to get any speed. Kinda like putting tiny wheels on the ATVs. They have to turn too many revolutions for the machine to get anywhere. DESIGN FLAW!!

    • @wbgator1
      @wbgator1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ryan: What you are watching here is just an advertisement. I haven't used them in mud, but I would say that unless the machine bottoms out and the tracks can't reach bottom then they will go through anything. I have only used them in winter and just for FUN!! At $1,000 per corner and (I imagine) the parts would be expensive too, I don't want to destroy them when it is not necessary. Besides the most fun without snow is on tires, much more maneuverable, quicker, faster, etc. etc. Have fun!

    • @wbgator1
      @wbgator1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ryan: Like all advertisements they don't tell you all the bad, mostly the good. EG. I was crossing a marsh on my machine and I came to a tiny stream that had not frozen over and when I tried to go down and up the other side the nose of the front tracks dug in. Also, if a tree has fallen across your path, with tires you cAN JUST POP THE FRONT WHEELS OVER THE TREE, and drag your bottom across (some times). But with the tracks you can't do that. If the tree is either bit high at all, it won't climb over it. (carry an axe, I carry a chain saw). If I didn't have a snowmobile and had $4,000.+ to spend, I would buy the snowmobile first.

      My brother has tracks for his Can Am Outlander 650 and they are a pain in the ass. They are 4 season but way too rough to ride in anything but snow. He's broken or lost more idler wheels then he cares to mention and they are expensive. He originally purchased them so he could use his atv more in winter but with low snow conditions here quite a bit, he thought the 4s would be OK. Not so. Biggest money pit ever. They are very hard on steering, suspension and driveline components. He's on his 3rd cvt belt, u-joint are gone again, some suspension components are getting sloppy and because they have smaller sprockets then the quad has tires, you are running around all the time in what feels like low gear. Low gear is ultra low. The weird thing about it is the can am is actually set up for the track kit from the factory with a square channel made into the chassis but it's still very hard on the machine.

    Using factory equip tires is probably not a fair comparison to tracks. Since the comparison is upgrading the ground contact piece of this machine.I still believe tracks are the better way, but I font think the void would be near as large. A more rugged tire would have less susceptibility to puncture because of the hire load rating and would do much better in the mucky marsh with some actual tread vs. stock tires.

    You guys are using cheap stock tires vs expensive tracks. Also use the same machine, it doesn't mean anything if it will balance out, that's unfair and it's a downside to the tracks, also tracks make you lose SPEED NOT POWER. At 5:18 the ranger drove THROUGH the rut and the tracked one drove around it, you can also see there is more rocks. If you are comparing 3,000$ tracks against tires you obviously have the money so why not get good tires?

    They make practically any vehicle off-road worthy by themselves you can put them on a car and it makes them a off-road worthy vehicle just like that, no other system has does this as effective as tracks not even 4x4 and these are not even full tracks these take the place of tires
    If you had full body length tracks (like a tank) stuff like high obstacles become easy and everything the tracks already improve upon is improved even farther the biggest drawbacks of tracks are fuel economy, loss of speed added complexity and cost but if a vehicle is designed will the tracks in mind most of these cons are lessoned quite a bit
    Overall if you want capability off-road tracks are a over century old proven solution that very little has come to rival and it doesn't look like that's going to change anytime soon

    Spends $22,500 on a UTV, another $25,000 on “wooded land in the country” plus a trailer, truck to pull it all, log splitter, chain saw and works all weekend cuttings trees, another month splitting, waits 3 years, then puts the wood into a fireplace as claiming savings $200 on heating bill.

      You can use more than for logging. Plowing snow, carrying dirt for new grass, pulling a car that isn't working but want to move to a new spot, tearing down old shed( using a winch instead of a hammer). List goes on and on.

    I agree trax are beneficial in a lot of situations, but still your giving a biased comparison, and the horsepower loss with the trax should be considered, as part of the cons they have.

    Buy a used small pickup or jeep, put big tires, low gears, winch and a locker and have something just as capable, compact, reliable and more versatile for the same price as a utv with tracks. Why would you buy 5000 dollars worth of tracks that will definitly break your 15,000 dollar machine while destroying all aspects of performance save for traction?

    This was a pretty lop sided test. Must have paid you well to do a review like this. The wheels are tiny on the test vehicle, and it had to go through soup, while the track went over a little mud.
    Also, the drive wheels are too flat. There's no climbing ability. Run it over logs. Deep mud. Swampy.

    BAD COMPARISON
    1) The machines are different sizes!
    2) At 4:08 he claims a lower center of gravity with tracks. Tracks increase the height of the COG!

    Ok... not saying Tracs aren't good... but you should have compared 570s or 800s not 570 vs 800. HP to the Trac to match the 570?? What about torque? Suspension?? The 570 has stock tires... put an upgraded tire on it if the tracs are SO NARLY!!!
    Losing confidence in Dirt Tracks. Unfair comparison if you ask me.

      It also helps to have a good driver. You could tell they purposely slowed down to get stuck...if they didn't slow down the machine with regular tires would have gone through that just fine...its all in knowing how to drive.

  • @phalanx3803

    Not really a comparison if you comparing fancy tracks to stock tiny tires put some proper tires on it then compared them. The tires you have there are hardly bigger than the tires on bloody yard tractor.

    biased. they used a 570 with tires and a 800 with tracks because of the tracks downfalls. yes tracks can go better places but with a outrageous price of 5000. and yes while the tracks don't go flat. they do rip and tear making replacing them harmful to once again your wallet.
