    This is awesome. Cost me five bucks and about 10 mins to put it together and worked like a charm. Changed oil in both mowers in a few minutes and more importantly didn't spill a drop of oil. Thanks LCN!

    Works great for someone like me who has muscular dystrophy and can't manhandle a lawnmower or a manual pump very well. I got my local sandwich shop to give me an empty 1 gallon jar that their jalapenos come in but convenience stores that sell pickles also have them and are happy to keep them out of the landfill. I also am not a pop user so I got my 2 litter bottle from my neighbor's recycle bin. I skipped the hose in a hose idea and only bought the 3/8 hose. After using this setup I opened the drain on the engine (riding mower) and not a drop was left. It's the least messy of all the oil changes I've ever seen. Thanks for the help.

    I am from Quebec and I just tried it, really worked well, I won’t have to tilt the mower over in order to change the oil, thanks a lot for this really nice tool. I too was sceptical of this but wow.

    Chris Notap used a step drill bit to 11/32" - which keeps the 3/8" (which is = 12/32") vinyl tubing snug inside the drilled holes (without needing the FlexSeal).

  • @ScottiMac0007
    @ScottiMac0007 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    A Mighty-Vac works well and its the same principal. I made a jar like this to change brake fluid, easy-peasy. This vacuum system is dope compared to turning the mower over or draining oil all over a machine (pressure washer, generator, etc).

  • @KK-hm6gc
    @KK-hm6gc 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Instead of using the glass jar, I think you can drill holes on the cap of an old engine oil container to capture the extracted oil and after that, switch the cap for one without holes for returning the used oil for recycling at the garage shops or community recycling center.

    • @ADUSEI6111

    This is a great method for changing lawn mower oil. 2 hoses are not needed however. Cut one 3/8 OD hose about 4' long. Cut the end on an angle like shown here. Run the end of the hose thru the cut bottle thru the shop Van to a plastic bottle that will sit inside. Drill another hole in the top for the end of the hose.

    I really like the idea of something doing the work for me, but I think this would create more work for me. It's more stuff to store, and I'd probably get oil dripping from the hose ends.
    More importantly, I don't know that this would get any sediment from the bottom of the oil reservoir.
    ...but it would give me a good reason to go buy a bottle of sodee pop.🥤

  • @johnnyz7752
    @johnnyz7752 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If it fits, put the mason jar right inside the shop vac and run the tubing through the soda pop cap and into one of the holes in the mason jar. Now, the lower air pressure inside the shop vac will draw the oil straight into the mason jar. Less tubing and better suction.

  • @claibst
    @claibst 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Did you use an impact driver to drill the hole in the soda lid?

    • @Thelawncarenut
      @Thelawncarenut  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes but switched to my regular drill which has a bigger chuck to handle the larger 3/8" masonry bit I ended up with

    Are my eyes playing tricks on me? Or was your drill in reverse drilling the holes for the mason jar?
    Anyways I will be doing this in the spring.

      I am sorry about your loss. Maybe it will be loved by a new owner who will think when mowing the first time ' wow, my grass sure looks good, wonder who it was who made it look so good'? So leave a note and tell them what you did, I know I would really appreciate it.

    Good stuff Sir, never would've thought to do this on my own. One question, is the time master a no need to change oil like my Toro super recycler?

    • @raymondcampbell2346
      @raymondcampbell2346 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The mowers that are advertised as never need to change the oil are for you to have to replace the mower as the engine will be ruined after about three years of use. Change it anyhow at least once a season and use synthetic oil. That is what the manufacturer is using in it.
