If you are brand new to all of this, I created a training program just for you www.yardcarebootcamp.com/ (It may seem strange that a dude on YT made a training course fofr DIYers but I assure you, I take it very seriously and have helped tens of thousands of DIYers learn how to care for their lawns and have success)
I just discovered your channel. We are building a new home, but not occupying until this upcoming fall. I'm getting as much knowledge as possible for now. I signed up for the email. Thank you very much. 👍
Thank you for this video. In the before/after pictures, all they did was follow your instructions? No sod or plugs were placed on any of the yards? Trying to understand if I need to resod first. The yard looks bad and I didn't think that there was a chance of it looking good without resoding.
Thank you so much,I live in southern ontario Canada, just questions should I lay Black earth prior to seeding. My lawn is in desperate repair, tomorrow should be nice day here around 50 degrees going first rake the lawn, lots of leaves are left from fall. And is this to early lay 3 in 1?
Neighbors do not matter. YOU CAN & WILL DOMINATE YOUR ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD! You need to have people slow while driving by, so this includes front gardens. A mixture of perennial and annual flowers, in pots are a must.
I’m so glad I saw your video. I am going to try this. I don’t have a good lawn, too much weeds. I literally for months sat on my grass and picked this horrible weed with purple flowers and a root that looks like a carrot. Neighbors had to laugh. Now it’s everywhere. I don’t have a husband to help so it’s just me. I pray this works. I was going to hire professional lawn but I changed my mind. Thank you.
@@uria702 Definition of weed: A weed is a plant considered undesirable in a particular situation, growing where it conflicts with human preferences, needs, or goals. So yes... it's a weed
Me too, bought our first home last fall and suddenly I'm really into wanting a great lawn. We bought in the suburbs, so lots of single detached homes with awesome lawns and gardens....even the Christmas and Halloween lights in the neighborhood were great...with a subtle competition vibe for lawns, gardens, and holiday decor. (Its a healthy competition though, like for kids its awesome Halloween decorations with haunted houses for kids. Still my lawn is not going so great. Its hard to get decent herbicide products in Canada.
This video is for ME!!! You have a new subscriber!!!! I've watched so many videos that were so far advanced that I felt defeated and didn't do a thing to my lawn BUT, this is perfect! Thank you!
As a new homeowner who watched a lot of videos about lawncare and was still really confused on what to do with my patchy, weed infested lawn, this was a lawn saver. Thanks for making it simple and informative all at the same time!
Over 45 years, I've owned 5 homes and have always enjoyed taking care of my lawns. Most of them, I actually planted from grass seed after installing (yep I did it trenching and all) an irrigation system! For what it's worth, here are a few of my recommendations. 1) Watering. I will say at the forefront that if you want a successful lawn, you absolutely must have an irrigation system that regularly waters your lawn at 0500 in Spring/Fall (in cooler climates) as trying to do it by hand just doesn't work! In Winter, most grasses go dormant and depending on where you live, the seasonal rains normally provide enough natural irrigation. Big Summer watering tip here that I learned from a wonderfully skilled and very valued Mexican landscaper I knew in San Diego - if you live in a hot arid climate like So Cal, be sure to water your lawn at 7pm in the Spring/Summer - yes 7pm so the water can really sink in as the sun will literally sublimate the water out if you water in the early morning! 2) Fertilizing. Not being a fan of broadcast spreaders, I've always used a Scotts drop spreader because it's easy to align the arrows on the back top of the spreader body with the spreader wheel track on the grass and using Scotts TB weed/feed, you set the recommended drop setting and away you go. Aligning the spreader body arrows with the wheel tracks on your lawn is critical, otherwise you will get the dreaded paler stripes due to inadequate coverage! I fertilize quarterly because it lasts about 3 months with regular irrigation and do an extra application in the Fall to harden the lawn before Winter. 3) Annual Aeration/Overseeding. The other critical thing that I have always done is to do an annual aeration (I've rented the aerator from HD but it's really easier to hire this out for $100 or so) and then overseed with fresh - yes fresh grass seed - via my same Scotts drop spreader in both the Fall and early Spring - this makes a huge difference!!! 4) Soil pH. Get a soil pH meter (they're cheap), test your lawns soil pH, then adjust with pelletized lime via your spreader - do it as it really works! 5) Soil Building. I also semiannually apply granular dolomite and gypsum which conditions your soil by breaking down compacted clay through ion exchange and causes excess sodium salts to leach out. Both apps are nonburning and nonirritating! 6) Green-up. Got a special event coming up and/or you want a deeper emerald green lawn - apply Ironite and you'll get it! Anyway, there you go - many decades of successful lawncare distilled down into 6 must do steps with all the components being available at your friendly big box stores. Remember one thing - none of this will happen if you stay on the couch and it will take you 30 or so minutes to do the separate fertilizer, grass seed, and soil conditioner applications - which equates to 1.5 hours per calender quarter! So put the application schedule on your computer/smartphone outlook calendar to remind you, get out there and do it, and reap the satisfaction you will get from knowing your lawn will grow and thrive. Good luck!
@@izzyh.3581 As a pre-emergent fertilizer, Scotts is okay - but it's far better to get specific herbicide preparations for those - mix them up in either a hose-end sprayer or a 1 to 3-gallon Chapin sprayer for large areas - thats what I do. You can get the herbicides on Do-It-Yourself Pest Control (DYPC). For clover - I use Tenacity concentrate as it's both a pre/post- emergent and also mix it with a surfactant (also buy at DYPC) so the stuff sticks to the clover. Also be sure to distinquish between clover and sedge because they look similar and require specific herbicides. For dandelions, its really best to get rid of the entire weed via the Fiskars standup weedpuller - it's easy and it literally pulls them out of the ground root and all - it's actually satisfying to see them pulled out! I pulled about 600 of them out of my neglected lawn when we bought our place here in Aberdeen, WA. For normally isolated crabgrass, get one of the spray bottle preps at Home Depot, spot treat them, and then rake them out and reseed with fresh grass seed.
@@stevejensen3471 thank you for all the information and I'll be sure to check them all out. Do you recommend doing all these same chemicals and procedures for commercial use? You see, I plan on making a 1gallon 30% vinegar/2lbs of sodium chloride and some soap as a "near organic" herbicide. From my understanding its indiscriminate and will kill most plants. That's my first concern, my second is the fact that it adds salt to the soil. Minimum- spot areas. Maximum- giant 10x10 areas such as my backyard. My last concern is my equipment. I don't want to ruin my backpack sprayer and can't find much info on how it will affect the polymers and metals used. I do like that you stated dolomite and gypsum will leach out sodiums but I wonder how much they'll counterbalance. I plan on using this concoction on more mulch styled lawns, concrete walk ways, and rock paths but also for spot spraying flower beds. Is this all just a bad idea? I don't like the thought of round up causing cancer or any other chemical that can cause it. Also I'm thinking about pet friendly and eco conscious clients. I'm sorry if I dropped a bomb on you but I'd love to hear what you have to say :).
@@izzyh.3581 Yes you can do these applications from a commercial perspective - what I do is exactly what the pro's do. In fact, the lawn care guys who take care of the place next door came over and asked me how I got my grass so darn green and weed-free! I surprisingly looked at him and said "well regular water and fertilizer - it's that simple - oh and a friendly dose of ironite!" :) Your vinegar/salt/soap solution will be fine for a Chapin widemouth sprayer as the seals and gaskets on those are either polyurethane or viton. I'd advise picking up a 1-gallon Chapin as again that's what I do and the convenience is more than worth it! I actually have 3 of them - a 1, 2, and 3-gallon - all widemouth so they are easy to clean!
I used a setting of #5 with Scotts 3-1 and panicked because I read online reviews saying to use setting #2. I just didn't water it at all and fortunately it rained after 3 days. After a week it showed weeds dying but it left me feeling like it wasn't enough. Finally after 2 weeks my lawn looked amazing. All weeds were gone and I have grass seeding on top. I've grown fond of lawn work and appreciate great lawns when driving past houses. I wish I'd watched this before venturing the lawn aisle. 😅
1) I really appreciate the attention to detail. I’m the kind of person who will sit down and do the math. I like seeing someone else who thinks the same way. 2) Showing the viewer lawns at the end is a great touch. Some of them started off way worse than what I’m dealing with. It’s encouraging.
Oh thank God! Just bought my first house and was totally intimidated about doing my own lawn. I feel so much better about it now! Thank you for this Great Lawns for Dummies video!
I just bought a new house and the builder lived there. He literally did no lawn care no landscaping. I now have to research how to make the grass look amazing this upcoming spring. Thank you!
I absolutely LOVE how you teach. It’s how I want to be taught and how I’d want to teach something myself. Slow, detailed information on the why along with the what and the how. Thank you!!
Quick tips on Scotts (drop) spreaders: use the recommended drop rate # as a *starting* place. It's almost never been right in the 3 decades I've used them. Fortunately, I typically find I'm putting it down WAY lighter than expected, so I do a second perpendicular application. I'll also adjust my drop rate so it's heavier along fence lines & driveways/sidewalks, where you're most likely to get invasions by certain weeds.. and then lighter in areas where I don't typically see weeds year-over-year. Always best, regardless, to set your drop rate, fill the hopper half-full or so, test the rate over a driveway so you can see how much is coming out, adjust if desired, do the yard a bit, decide if you're dropping at the desired rate by how fast the hopper is emptying, re-adjust, refill, and continue. Smart also to clean your drop spreader ahead (and allow time to air dry) *and* test the wheels, cable, and drop door mechanism BEFORE loading it with material to be sure it works. Chemicals *will* clog and rust it over time... some worse than others.
Love this guy! I am a psychologist and his analogies are great applied to relationships too! Aka "Just like any relationship, you're not going to get a thick, beautiful lawn overnight. It's going to take time, attention, and patience." Yep!!! And "Learn your lawn (aka partner!), walk around it to learn where dry spots, wet spots, and uneven spots are." ....Bingo! Happy wife, happy life! Or in this guy's case, happy lawn, happy wife, happy life! 😊😅👌🏽
Without a doubt, one of the best, comprehensive lawn care videos I've watched! Excellent work, love the dedication to your craft and the video production.
I was up till 1:30am watching a few of your videos. I don't own a home. Don't want to own a home, and certainly could not care about maintaining a lawn. But, for those couple of hours you were like a life coach to me ... for problems that I'm never going to have in life. I just want to say thank you. I don't know why, but thank you. You're like a father to me. Thank you dad. I love you.
Sadly I rarely leave feedback on helpful videos. Yet I had to take 2 mins to thank you, and compliment you on your public speaking, from the tones, to pauses, volume and knowledge!! Thanks for the video!! I look forward in turning my neighbors thoughts of me around!!
Three year viewer, warm season guide purchaser, Official LCN Facebook page member and Lawns Across America listener/viewer. Just here again to add to the 1.2M views. Congratulations on your continued success, Allyn!
Hey Allyn, I enjoy all of your content, but I am super appreciative of the time, effort and knowledge put in the mini-movies. 30-40 mins? Yes please!! Your videos and content are helping this first responder decompress during all of this hullabaloo. Appreciate you and thank you for your service, both in the lawn and in the military. Keep it up 🤙🤙🤙
I aerated two days ago, applied Tenacity yesterday, and got 25 lbs of black beauty ultra that I was going to spread today, but I’m looking at 93 today at a mile elevation in Wyoming. I want to get the seed down as my yard is a mess. I had cottonwood trees planted in 1977...85 feet tall with roots that wrapped my sprinkler lines in a knot. Finally got an arborist to drop these huge trees, I removed the downfall and now I have a weed covered yard that is scorched. I’m trying to do this right, so I appreciate the video. I’m not trying to bulldoze this project because I’m invested in it now. Thanks for the info. I’m going to sign up for your e-mail and I’ll probably annoy the crap out of you because this is the most comprehensive video I’ve found. New subscriber here.
Thank you for all your tips I started seriously last year on my lawn. This year it's looking amazing, The tips that I've loved learning are applying iron on my lawn once a month and it greens up so fast, and not cutting my lawn too low! So thank you for all your hard work and helping us all out.
Decades ago I was in the business and now here I am Googling 'why do I have an ugly yard?' Thanks for reminding me of my roots. 🤦♂️ Thanks for the great info! Keep 'em coming.
Although this video was done by a homeowner simply taking care of his lawn, its nothing short of highly professional person giving you advice, tips & pointers on helping the average Joe get a seriously Great lawn! Just a very well done video! Short. Sweet. To the point
Funny! My brother is obsessed w/ his lawn. Even during the drought we here in MD were not allowed to wash cars, etc. but he still used his irrigation watering system set for 3 am. He had the ONLY green lush lawn in his subdivision - he thought no one would know what he was doing, ha! He told me he used to dream about his lawn. Okay, I'm not that far gone! I think we got the lawn OCD from my father. He's 92 and still wants a good looking lawn. I got him a lawn service (and paid for it myself) - two of them, he wasn't pleased with either! Hope there's lush lawns up in heaven otherwise he'll be ticked off!
Right?? The best teachers are the ones that start from square one and they start teaching as if you know nothing at all. No jargon, no cutting corners. Start from the beginning.
Going to Lowe’s right now. Was about to hire a company to do mine and figured why not learn how to do it myself. Found your video and figured I can’t make my yard any worse than it is and your video speaks down right at my level of lawn care. This might even help build value when I sell the place. Thank you.
Just bought a house and it was so over grown and finally got it under control to where it looks good as I’m mowing it once a week.. it’s very patchy though and I wanted to do something but didn’t know where to start. This was super informative and helpful! THANK YOU!
I had to take a 500 question exam just to get my Lawn Care License. That was a tuff test. But worth every question. I learned so much and every day I am so glad I took that test. and passed
I thought this was one of your better videos that you've made in a while I actually watched it all the way till the end. I think it's very helpful to a lot of people.
This has to be one of the best videos I have watched in a long time, absolutely fantastic and informative while remaining casual. Outstanding sir, I salute you. Have a nice piece of land in Scotland and still learning how to Improve our lawn. Love from Scotland.
Thanks for making this video! You’ve instilled an insane amount of confidence and motivation in me to finally, after 8 years of home ownership, taking on my 12,000 sq ft of weed covered lawn. Measured it out the other day and created a proper lawn map. Also picked up the same brand bag of 3 in 1, and it now also has an insecticide in it. Watering is 48 hours on that, just waiting on the weather to cooperate and give me 48 hours of no rain. It’s mid 80s for the next 10 days and I can’t wait to THROW ‘ER DOWN! I will also be wearing two pairs of sunglasses while I do it, in your honor.
Thanks for the tips man! I've been trying to get my lawn right for the past year and keep failing. Watching this video has given me confidence to try it again and do it right. Much love from Houston!
This video is just a LITTLE long but I appreciate your precision in explaining the process. You were quick in the explanation when you could be but you didn’t skimp on info. I have watched your videos for a while and I have a very mediocre lawn but this video specifically will help me step my game up more than any of your other videos before. Thanks!!!
Bought a house over the winter and the lawn is in rough shape this spring. This guide is fantastic for beginners! A great place to start your lawn care journey
Thanks for the info! I moved into my house 2 years ago and my lawn is covered in weeds. Was using a company to treat the first year but I'd rather save some money and do it myself! I'm laying it down tomorrow.
3:41 crabgrass and nutsedge are the bane of Florida lawns and yours looks pretty nice so you got my attention as there's nothing better than a healthy thick St Augustine lawn that makes you want to take your shoes off and I've been in Florida for my entire 55-year life but despite doing landscaping (everything but lawn maintenance) for at least 15 years I still have a lot to learn about grass. For those of you who don't already know a thick healthy St Augustine lawn suppresses weeds better than anything you can apply to it but the trick is getting it there and keeping it there
😄 I was all good til I had to weigh the material @ 20 minutes. Why not tell me how many cups? I have measuring cups but not a scale like that. Oh well. I still plan to make an effort in the woods! Funny huh?
Man I'm in the same situation. I don't know shit about lawn care. My father in law has the best lawn in the community where my wife grew up. This man has been better to me thn my own dad and I want to live up to his standards. I'm researching everything I can about lawn care. This was a good video to get started with.
Same here. Even though my patch of grass is Posted, I can't keep them durned dawgs off it, though. Why can't they just scratch around it a box instead?
You make it look so easy. I have tried to keep my own grass but unable to even read instructions in bag of products. I definitely understood you . Thank you so much, you build my confidence in lawn care.

I love the sign in your shop that says"Weeds will not defeat me!" We have been in our house in Houston over 20 years and I am still at war with the weeds in my backyard! Especially something called "nut grass". I love the beginners guide video. Thanks for all of your advice. I am a new follower!
It's been said that the grass is greener on the other side but that's because they're working hard at it. Blessings to you & your wife and a greener lawn.
@@RustyX2010 it's easy to see why he has a wife and I'm guessing you probably don't. He'd be wise not to listen to someone who doesn't appreciate what he has.... because he seems to... and I'm willing to bet that she appreciates him, too. Whatever vibe you put out is what comes to you -- and the reason you have that attitude is you're pulling in trash. 😉
Thanks for this. Ive watched countless hours of lawncare TH-cam and you are top notch in not only the information you provided but you break it down to the right level for a beginner like myself. And a laminated map of the yard is genius.
We are not beginner lawn care people but you have shredded some light as to what product could work ( depending on your weed situation). Had no idea that weed/feed products can contain both pre and post-emergent chemicals if we forgot to put them down at the proper time. Enjoyed the video!!
I always do my weed and feed by the first week of March, preferably after a light snow, so that it can be wet when applied. If I don't get it by the first week of March I will have dandelions.
Thanks allem i had my lawn for 16 years weeds and not so great every year never knew what t do with it i have a tiny patch of grass that having a hard time to grow due to weeds n stuffi subscribed and will follow your instructions i will start with the 3 in 1 weed n feed finally it will be fixed p.s. enjoyed the video my wife ohh your finally gonna do something about the yard lol :)
I really appreciated the technical details of your video. They’re the questions I always ask my wife when she comes at me with new things to do to the lawn, like how much, how far, how fast, and she just 🤷♂️. I’ll definitely be getting the Google map of my lawn to make things easy. You definitely got a subscriber today.
Oh my god I just got mansplained on how to do square footage math!!! Seriously though, your videos are awesome and useful and relevant and much appreciated. Thank you.
You're the best of the best! Ive learned alot from you over the last year, thanks for putting all this knowledge on TH-cam for us. The freedom factory looks great too!
I retired 2½ years ago, but had other projects to do first. Now I am concentrating on my front lawn (because it's the one everybody sees first!). This video is just what I needed. I used Scott's Turf Builder Weed 'n' Feed last year to start and it turned my lawn brown. But it wasn't because I applied too much and burned my lawn. it was because the lawn was overgrown with so many weeds, it killed most of them. This year, that same lawn is a lot greener and with a LOT fewer weeds. I just put down some more TB a month or so ago. Now I have to mow every week or two, whereas before I had to mow only once every couple of months. Later this year (September or so) I will plan on following your recommendation and apply the 3-in-one. I also switched from watering in the evening to late morning. I used the mapdevelopers tool to measure all the different sections of my front and back yard and will calculate and weigh the product. Until now, I've just been guessing. If the front turns out good (three smaller sections of 800-2,500sf), then I will do the same for the back four larger sections (2,200-4,600sf). Thanks for the tips, recommendations, and instructions!
thanks Steve - if you really want to have some fun and dive in deeper, check out my training called YardCareBootCamp.com it's just $7 and will teach you more about lawn care than you knew even existed lol. Check it out!
@@TheLawnCareNut Yes! I went to the website and checked it out. I plan on doing that very soon. BTW, I grew up in Chicago in the '50's-'70's. Now I live in northern California where it is hot and dry all summer long. We won't get any rain for 6 months. My soil is mostly a hard clay-type. I have no idea what type of grass I have. It was here when we bought the house, which was vacant for many years before. But I am determined to get some kind fairly decent lawn going. Thanks for everything!
from 0:00 - 11:15 the important take away "know yer SQ footage of yer lawn"....from there begins the rest Great information...gonna do this...subscribed!
Once I started being proactive, my lawn started looking great with minimal effort and cost. My program includes: Seed and soil in fall and early spring Humic and fulvic acid Liquid Liquid iron Sea kelp Hose sprayer Grub control Weed b gone as needed Granular Slow release fertilizer This has always worked for me and is easy to apply. I used to pay a lawn care company 6x the cost of doing it myself.
I used the Scotts triple action 2 weeks ago with the spreader you recommended and worked great also i can already see some results but still have a lot clovers, crabgrass and some empty spots and i was think to apply it again but i am not sure if i should or how often can apply triple action Scotts? Please help, your video really helpe. Thank you!
Typically there would be some information on application intervals on the packaging. Applying too frequent can cause more damage than good. With the products that I use (professionally) we try to keep the applications roughly 30-45 days apart due to the fertilizer. Weed control we keep 2 weeks apart minimum and is separate from the fertilizer. With that said, the chances of getting ALL weeds with one application is slim. You would need to make multiple applications to get all (probably never "all" but small enough quantities that you wouldn't notice any). Depending on the severity of the weed problem it make take (as he mentioned) a year or so to rid the weeds. Proper watering and mowing can also play a significant role in weed maintenance. So keep that in mind. With the empty spots you might want to over seed. Check your location for best seeding times here it is fall but can be effective in spring. With the "preventative" control measure it will stop any new seedlings from growing which will require you to halt the use of that product to give it long enough to loose its effectiveness so new seeds can grow. BEFORE you apply new grass seed. A thick/lush lawn is a difficult lawn for weeds to grow.
I’m not a new homeowner but I have never been able to get a decent green lawn without weeds, crabgrass and dandelions in MD. Currently my front yard looks like hay with spots of tall green weeds sticking up. The backyard looks green but is mostly various types of weeds. So following your steps is better than nothing. New subscriber.
Same boat. Never heard of pre-emergent until a couple weeks ago after spending hours pulling out weeds. So hoping to get ahead of it because i got clowers, crab grass, and some other kinda wild flowerd growin all over again. So hoping i can get rid of those n get the yard to green up well
Hey Allen. I have been watching your channel for years. actually started my own with inspirations from you and several others. but I would consider myself not a beginner but not a pro in yard work but still enjoy watching these videos that just bring you back to the basics sometimes. I’m an amateur but I’m thinking one more year and it will be looking A plus . My yard was full of English ivy that I had to remove , till the root bed up , put out fresh dirt and sod . Been working on it for 3 years and after seeing this last summer I’m on my way

Same, ive tried bio-advance before and it just didnt work for me. Many people i know swear by it since live in south Tx and seems to be to the go to product down here. Scotts was the only thing that seemed to work for me though, results were immediate.
@@aaliyahm1697 ide have to say about 5 days. I believe depending on which one you use.(I used the liquid 3 in 1 feed, hook up a hose to it) After I wanted the areas affected, it said to wait 48 hrs before watering. So made sure I started watering early in the morning after 48 hrs and seemed to started sprouting pretty quickly after that. Seeing results within a week of using is why I said immediate..I was pretty happy with it. They recommend you feed your lawn with this stuff 4 times a year. Just water make sure you keep up with the watering and when mowing mulch if you can.
Once again you don’t disappoint Allyn.. This was in a sense, kind of nostalgic.. like watching for the first time . Great info always Thank you again. My enemy is kyllinga ,those things are annoying 😂😂
Yes consider that a blessing cheap. On a acre lot. Just bought the house. Bermuda where previous owner used trudgen. Bleh! But my lawn has so much crab grass annual blue grass and other weeds. It’s going to take me this year to get my plan right I think. Budget wise I don’t have the money to wage all out war this year. But I’m doing spot treatments laid Scott’s 3 in one in , Lowe’s torn bag discount! Is awesome. Going to buy his guide. And pick and choose on a few chemicals to mix and hand spray. Literally just laid the 3 in one. I’ll be happy if I see minimal results. In a few weeks.
@@jcjc9155 Hey! I'm in about the same boat as you. New house, spent money fixing up and now not much left for the 25,000 sq ft lawn. Might just have to mow weeds this season.
Keep in mind you're spreading loads of toxic chemicals. It's not worth it. Put yours, your kid's and dog's health first. Think about what you're doing to our water supply too. Imaaaaa dooooo iiiiit lol. Thanks for this. Exactly what I was looking for! Broke like a joke but I can afford this and good grass will help if I ever need to sell the house
Your tips are great I usually use a starter fertilizer early spring and then use iron in summer do keep it green so I don't have to keep cutting iron is the secret to dark green and starter makes it thick cause of phosphorus I never have weeds and I use an organic 9-2-2 in hot summers amazing stuff and Dr iron 22% iron the lawn does not get any better than that
Thank you! the idea of breaking it down to sections and having it mapped out really showed me how much i was wasting. ! the map developers idea was so helpful as well
Thanks Alan! This is the lawn care nut that I grew to like. Ever since you've been pushing People's product, I've been losing interest. This is the lawn care nut that I like. Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much for a helpful video. This morning I followed your steps exactly and it went very well. I used mapdevelopers to measure, weighed out the weed and feed, and set my spreader up. I had just a small amount left in the spreader at the end of each of my 4 sections. I have always just thrown down a full 25 pound bag of Scott's going over the lawn several times until the bag was empty. Now I feel less wasteful and am hoping for good results with the "blue bag."

It's imparative that beginners understand the importance of dominating their neighbors. That's my sole motivation.
Agreed ! 🤘👊
My neighbors are all retired . I am the youngest on the block by 40 years . I have no hope ! I’m the yard they point and laugh at
I'm just trying to stop being a disgrace to them. That will be enough for me. 😂
Neighbors do not matter. YOU CAN & WILL DOMINATE YOUR ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD!
You need to have people slow while driving by, so this includes front gardens. A mixture of perennial and annual flowers, in pots are a must.
Truth!
Single mom never ever had a lawn. Just bought my first home ya 48! I found I enjoy working in my yard. This video is perfect for me thank you
that's great to hear!! I hope you also enjoy the mow!

Later another nightmare when everything is burned-out 🤣🤣 🥵🥵🥵
I’m so glad I saw your video. Thank you.
That’s not a weed. Those are Iris plants and they’re hell to get rid of.

Definition of weed:
A weed is a plant considered undesirable in a particular situation, growing where it conflicts with human preferences, needs, or goals.
So yes... it's a weed
I recently purchased my first home and I never knew I’d be interested in a lawn improvement video until now
Me too!!! I have beautiful sod in the front, but they threw seed and hay on the sides and back and now it looks awful.

Ok lk
Mine is too,can you simplify what you did?
Good luck!
Will the Scotts weed and feed take out large patches of clovers, crabgrass and dandelions?
One of the best posts I’ve read! Thx 🙏

Not even that, the dude lives what he preach.

I aerated two days ago, applied Tenacity yesterday, and got 25 lbs of black beauty ultra that I was going to spread today, but I’m looking at 93 today at a mile elevation in Wyoming.

Great starting point for all my DOMINATED neighbors 😁
Once I started being proactive, my lawn started looking great with minimal effort and cost.
My program includes:
Seed and soil in fall and early spring
Humic and fulvic acid Liquid
Liquid iron
Sea kelp
Hose sprayer
Grub control
Weed b gone as needed
Granular Slow release fertilizer
This has always worked for me and is easy to apply.
@@RhinoShawn better late than never
14:54 - Yea, now I have to rewatch the previous 10 minutes because my OCD wouldn't ignore the sunglasses situation... 😬
Now, you know that all of us “advanced LCN’s” will watch the entire video without skipping over anything!
30 min on lawn care! No big deal! LoL
Absolutely ! Dats how we do it!😎👊
Damn straight Skippy. No such thing as a bad LCN video.
"Repetition is the key" right?
You know it!
Thanks for the vids.
Learning starts at 4:10. You're welcome.
thank you
Just bought a House with a HORRIBLE yard, bumpy, water logged, patchy, crabgrass, weeds, etc etc etc... I'm about to binge watch all these videos lol.
Just start it all over if it's that bad.
@@bigchungus920 Yes, it appears I'm needing to install some French drains also so I'm thinking about tilling up the worst parts of the yard. Leveling the yard then reseeding it.
Have before and after pics?
Trevor Shaw that is where i am at too
Same. How did yours turn out?
I’ve only used the 3 in 1 on my lawn for one year but it looks so much better on year two . I’ve watered , fertilized , and aerated my property and the grass is finally looking like a real yard . I’m an amateur but I’m thinking one more year and it will be looking A plus . My yard was full of English ivy that I had to remove , till the root bed up , put out fresh dirt and sod . Been working on it for 3 years and after seeing this last summer I’m on my way
I wish I took pictures of my lawn "Before", it seriously looked like the deserts of Afghanistan. I watched and learned from the LCN and Ryan, and now I get compliments almost every weekend...but I'll never be done.
Nice! Welcome to the nut house!
What are the things you did? I'm finding that there is so much to learn and I am getting kinda overwhelmed.
Been doing Scott’s 3-1 for 4 years now and pretty happy with the results.
How many times a year?
@@DespiZze , hi I didn't see an answer, but the way the bag reads is 2 times a year, spring and fall. I need to get mine ready for October, right around the corner! Geeze!
Same, ive tried bio-advance before and it just didnt work for me. Many people i know swear by it since live in south Tx and seems to be to the go to product down here. Scotts was the only thing that seemed to work for me though, results were immediate.
@@ojface how quick is immediate ?
I keep coming back to you ever since I realized your passion doing the Freedom Factory.
Here cause I want a nice lawn and loved the work you did for the Freedom Factory. Awesome seeing the cleetus hat in the background.
"A small portion of lawn, 2,500 square feet" my whole lot is 1,700 square feet 😂😂😂
Consider this a blessing in disguise. I have 1/2 acre. The amount of mowing, watering, weeding, fertilizing, and sprinkler repair is mind boggling.
I'll keep looking for someone who provides natural lawn care (is there such a channel?) the yard might not look perfect but maybe we all need to get used to less-than-perfect lawns for the sake of our family's and the planet's health.
Wonder if this'll get removed - the comments are only full of love notes, lol!
2500 sqft is more than half of my lawn.
Thank you for this amazing video. You are a great teacher! I have owned two houses but never had a good lawn because I had no idea how to take care of it but you have broken it down to simple steps which a beginner really needs. I so appreciate this knowledge thank you so much!
Hey Alan don't stop posting 30 minute videos as a matter of fact post videos as long as possible. For me learning helps tremendously in applying the knowledge necessary to establish a beautiful lawn👍
I love to learn so much 1 hour plus videos for me are enjoyable.
Imaaaaa dooooo iiiiit lol. Thanks for this. Exactly what I was looking for! Broke like a joke but I can afford this and good grass will help if I ever need to sell the house
You have inspired me to start laying around in my front yard!
I asked myself for 23 minutes, 'How fast should I walk?' Answer: "Puttin' some ass into it." LOL. I can remember that! Thanks LCN!
I'm trying to swing things back around to a good balance. Thank you for noticing.
Awesome Bro! You will continue to get better and better at it and this will open up lots of fun options for ferts to try. Some with fun stuff like biochar and humic acid. 👊
The Lawn Care Nut hi there, how frequent do we do this?

It's never too late. You have plenty of progress you can make this season.
