    Please understand I never said that gracilaria was not sea moss.
    I never said it was "fake" or that you should not use it. I have a video for that as well because I use BOTH.
    youtu.be/wqx2mAcdg
    All I said in this video as that it is not IRISH moss. The term sea moss is a generic term used to describe over 30,000 species or genuses of red algae. The term Irish Moss is a specific term used for Chondrus Crispus based on the history and where it grows.
    Sea Moss vs Irish Moss

    PLEASE READ the article links provided in the show notes for further explanations and please watch the video and it's full entirety. Thank you. ♥️

    KEY lime is the specific lime to use. Persian and other limes never become alkaline once ingested. The Key lime does! 😎

    • @VeganWithCurves
      @VeganWithCurves  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      People should use whatever limes that are accessible to them. This is not an "alkaline" vegan channel. If key limes are avaliable, they can use those. If not, regular limes are just fine to use and will not harm them.

      Key lime is just the Same as any other lime or lemon. They all have the same citric acid. Also key lime is an hybrid like any other citrus fruit. All citrus fruits originate from Citron and mandarin, so lemons as we now it might be the closest to the original citron. Stop spreading pseudo science and go and do some research instead of parroting something here.

    Great vidoe and thank you BUT why did your and other videos about "real" irish sea moss pop up AFTER I just spent over $100 buying Sea Moss that is actually Garciana and Eucheuma Cottoni! I searched high and low for what to buy and how to make it and none of these videos with the real irish sea moss appeared until after I bought the other stuff. Life is not fair! What kills me are the people who sell the other variants for the same cost or higher of what real irish sea most cost.

    First great video I've watched several videos dealing with Chrondus chrispus and I honestly only saw you specifically talk about all the debris, shells, muscles etc. that needs to be removed before you start the gelling process. So great job on that. But my concern with using heat as part of the process would remove mineral properties from the gel. Can you speak on this pertaining to heating and its affect on consistency and mineral content? How about a double boiler method? Thanks !

    • @ampsa84
      @ampsa84 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Heating the sea moss release more nutrients as it breaks up the complex structures. Minerals are not heat sensitive so they do not destroy by heat. This is why you can melt gold over and over and it’s still gold. What actually destroys the mineral is blending, as the oxygen and water causes oxidation. Oxidation is what destroys mineral, you can observe this with rusting .

Just a tip, the blog post says carrageenan, however it's carrageen, am sure that's easily fixed. It's named after a coastal place in Ireland, Carragheen. Great info here. Slan! :-)

    I read your pin and saw your site, thank you for that clarification about Irish moss vs sea moss.
    I think the confusion about “sea moss” vs what you called the “Irish moss” in this video was very simply cultural for me. Both my parents are from Jamaica. In Jamaica (what YOU or what Americans call) the “sea moss” we call “Irish moss”. Perhaps that is not the correct name (here in the states), however, in Jamaica (for example) if you ask for “avocado” SOME may give you what you want but younger Jamaicans may look at you funny and not know what you’re talking about. If you ask for “pear” then most Jamaicans will give you (what WE in the states call) avocado. Same in this situation; if you ask any Jamaican who cooks or sells food for Irish moss, they would give you what YOU/Americans may call sea moss. I know, it’s confusing!😂
    I honestly never understood why it was called Irish moss. It may have to do with some Irish influence in Jamaica 🤷🏾‍♀️, especially considering they both make that gel! However, that is perhaps why some were confused when you stated “…this is not Irish moss.” I was certainly confused! But now I am convinced it’s just a difference in our cultural vernacular.
    Any-hoo, thank you for introducing this new kind of sea moss! I did not know it was out there!😊

      Yes u can. U can even use the water to blend your gel if you desire. Amd from my current understanding, it will not kill all nutrients not all nutrients are heat sensitive and some are actually released when in heat😊

    Soaking any seaweed for that long then replace the water will remove a lot of the nutrients and minerals. This is due to the fact the a lot of the minerals and some of the vitamins are water soluble. It’s best to wash quickly then boil or soak and blend in the water it was soaked in.

    What about irish moss already in jars that you get from stores... Info please on how to make gel for skin

    • @VeganWithCurves
      @VeganWithCurves  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I personally would not trust those. It depends on the company.
      I do not specialize in cosmetology so when it comes to making things for skin and hair, I do not do that. That is another field of expertise. However some people have used regular sea moss gel they made for internal use on their skin and hair.

      I usually do 12 hrs. This moss has a very strong ocean taste. I did put my seamoss with key limes overnight and it did tone down the smell and taste. But still very Ocean taste.

    • @mikiniwilliams5916
      @mikiniwilliams5916 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      4 hours minimum in spring water with key limes. I soak for one hour, then rinse again because sometimes there is debris left. Pour out that water, then soak again for a minimum of 3 hours. The more spring eater you add the looser it will set.

    Hello. I have a question. I see that the Chondrus Crispus makes me sleepy. And the Gracilaria gives me energy. Should I take the Gracilaria in the morning and the Chondrus Crispus at night?

    • @VeganWithCurves
      @VeganWithCurves  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would recommend only using the one you prefer. One variety at a time. sea vegetables are high in iodine so you don't want to overdose on them. It is unnecessary to use both at the same time...if chondrus Crispus make you sleepy then don't take it

    • @VeganWithCurves
      @VeganWithCurves  ปีที่แล้ว

      In my article about this, I explained that using the mesh lead helps it last longer because it allows your Chondrus Crispus to "breathe" as this is considered raw food.

      th-cam.com/video/wqx2mAcdgDo/w-d-xo.html
      I simply said it was not👉 IRISH👈moss because it is not. Sea moss is a generic term for over 30,000 species or genus. Check out my article where I source marine biology sites so you can see for yourself.
      veganwithcurves.com/sea-moss-vs-irish-moss/
      The term IRISH moss is a specific term use for Chondrus Crispus because it grows near Ireland (and other cooler waters) and it got its name from 1800 famine in Ireland. This article explains in full details be sure to check it out. All these articles are linked in the show notes as well for further explanation.

    I have Irish Moss (the real stuff!) but it is already chopped into small pieces. Any thoughts on cleaning it thoroughly to make the gel? I can rinse it, but because many of the pieces are small, I'm not certain I can sift out any debris.

    • @4adinak
      @4adinak 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, can I use lemons?

    • @VeganWithCurves
      @VeganWithCurves  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So with that it might already be cleaned if the the company toom the time to chopped it out it up before they dried it. What I would do is soak it in water for a few mintutes to see if any dirt or debris remains on it and then drain it in a colander.
