  • Well its a new year! So lets go over our first year with the eastonmade, and how much wood went through it!. And of course, we have to send a few big rounds through it.
    Thank YOU for the great year, and here's to many more! If you enjoyed, hit that like button and share it with your friends/family. We appreciate all the support!

    It was my 12-22 that brought on the cooler fix after blowing up the cooler twice.. Gerry with a G came and swapped out the 12-22 to diagnose the issue at the shop..

    That machine with those grizzly bars is the cats pajamas !!!! That Eastonmade is so efficient its unbelievable. You have a beautiful set up there and the weather is holding off nicely as well. Right on 👌

    You got lucky to get that Honda. I'm thinking about the 22-28 but that's a lot of money to spend with an engine you're unsure about. I just don't buy that the Briggs will have the longevity that the Honda has. Good to see everything else is going good.

    • @earthandbloom
      @earthandbloom  ปีที่แล้ว

      I was lucky to stumble across a used eastonmade around here! And I hear ya, at least the engine is a easily replaceable part down the road. I still use a walk behind cultivator from the ‘50s that has the original little Briggs on it. Still works hard every year, Probably the most fuel efficient thing I own lol!

    • @earthandbloom
      @earthandbloom  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Jared! I don’t know if a box wedge will work great for our application, and they are pricey 😅.

  • @thefirewooddoctor
    @thefirewooddoctor ปีที่แล้ว

    Would be interesting to hear how the 7 and 5-way box wedge would work out for you. Remind me, do you do mostly furnace or fireplace type firewood? In the right wood my Wolfe Ridge with the 12-way wedge absolutely flies through the wood. BUT that wood needs to be fairly clean wood, aka not many big knots, or it will struggle with thst wedge. Might get an Eastonmade in the future or bundle wood as I'll be changing production over to bundles next year. Making bundle wood with my 4-way wedge is a pain. And slow too. Too bad can't afford two big splitters and solve the dilemma thst way.

    • @earthandbloom
      @earthandbloom  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That it would be, but the cost is to much for something that may not work out great. We do mostly firewood for small woodstoves, but bundles did better than expected this year.
      And same with a box wedge, you want nice wood or it’ll be just to hard on the machine, and make a mess of the wood. If you were doing a whole lot of bundles I would most likely get a box wedge.
      And two would definitely solve the problem, wouldn’t it 😂

    • @thefirewooddoctor
      @thefirewooddoctor ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @earthandbloom the Axis is the beat for prevention of waste shreddings when making bundle wood, but not as productive. But at $13k USD without the conveyor, os too expensive. For that price I'd rather get a 12-22 with box wedge.

    • @earthandbloom
      @earthandbloom  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thefirewooddoctor that is true, one day I will get a verticals splitter….or build one. The axis is amazing, but spendy at the new prices that’s for sure.
      I think your right, with the right wood the box wedge would be better, just gotta deal with more waste. For a home owner setting, the vertical splitter would be a better choice.

    • @thefirewooddoctor

    The Axis will be a good upgrade if you can Afford it, it Produces better wood then the 12-22, If your doing Production or your splitting cords of wood per hour or your getting Tree service wood 12-22 is the way to go, If your doing boiler bundle wood were your splitting 24 to 36 inch pieces of wood and your splitting the sizes you want, the Axis is the way to go, what are your thoughts,

    • @earthandbloom
      @earthandbloom  ปีที่แล้ว

      The axis is pricey, as are most the vertical splitters. They are great for making neat wood from those big or ugly rounds. One day we will look into it, or maybe I’ll come across a used one 😎

    Kind of surprised that they sent you a buy list for the cooler parts as opposed to simply sending you the parts, either for free or at a heavy discount. If the parts are only about $100 that shouldn’t be much compared to the good will and to ensure guys are getting the right parts and keeping their machines reliable.

      If I asked for the hoses I’m sure they would have, but then I’d be waiting for them in the mail, I was alright with spending the few dollars locally. Our local hydro shop is great and had it all on the shelf.

    I think I'll be getting mine in April. Northern lower Peninsula of michigan here. Usually we are buried in snow now. In my free time will be trying to build some piles of wood when it arrives. I'm thinking tall 4 way blade & 6 way. Nice review. I'm just a home burner maybe sell a little extra. Looks like a beast

      Sounds like a bunch of 12-22 are being delivered around that time! Your going to really enjoy it, and going to need a bunch of piles! 😉. And you will probably end up selling wood, as you’ll have a bunch extra I bet.

I ordered mine this past sept. or October (at the Paul Bunyan Show) and Gerry said I'll possibly see it this coming July, so fingers crossed lol. Also going to say and this is no slam at Eastonmade but it blows my mind there's that many people buying these splitters to have a 12 month plus wait time. I thought he had said on a video that they turn out 8-10 splitters like this one per week, but I could be wrong on the number. It would be an awesome surprise if Gerry called me some time in May-June and said its ready lol

    • @earthandbloom
      @earthandbloom  ปีที่แล้ว

      They are a “small” shop in the big scheme of things. Gotta work around what parts you can get in I think. They keep getting bigger which will keep bringing down those wait times. Especially once parts get back to normal, but I’m not sure that will ever be “normal” again lol!
