Got my 12-22 a few months ago. It’s awesome. After my first day of working with it, the only thing I would change would be a bigger gas tank. That is a thirsty machine. Now that winter has arrived, 0 degrees Fahrenheit is though on the hydraulic fluids. Now I wish I had a hydraulic preheater on it.
Both great machines. They both have evolved over the years. More and more heavy duty, better features, and improvements. Always look forward to seeing what you come up with next.

I can personally vouch for the 22-28 I talked to Andrew and told him I owned a tree service and bring back a lot of massive nasty gnarly residential wood. He said the 22-28 was the way to go. And it is the way to go for that kind of wood. It is a production monster that can keep up with 2 guys with no problem. I can take logs that would normally go into a tub grinder and make firewood out of it. It does not care. Yes you will finds it's limits like any other machine but I can tell anyone looking into the 22-28 that there is no other splitter available in the industry that compares to it or the service from Eastonmade.

We upped revenue quite a bit by not chipping anything 3” or bigger. It all gets cut 18 and split before it hits the dump body. Chips get put in small truck or second load
I'm in the same boat and got out of the split wood game for a few years now I couldn't keep up and the prices weren't there at the time. Now I have a huge pile to get rid of even after selling boiler woodas much ad possible.

GREAT VIDEO Andrew. Wish I could have seen this way back in the early days. I would have bought the top of the line machine right from the start. I'm with MJM Tree Service & Maintenance! This will be my 3rd machine from Eastonmade, the 22-28. I've had 2 smaller units and right now I have a 12-22 that I will be selling it this weekend if all goes well. If you own a tree service like I do, you will lock up a 12-22 more often than you want. I get some pretty big ugly wood and it often does not split well because it's tree service wood. The long straight 12-18" limb wood breaks up beautifully with the 12-22 but that's not the bulk of what I cut down. I make everything from bundle wood to great boiler wood for several customers. I'm putting in my order for the 22-28 in the next few days! I can't wait for the "It does not care" performance. Many times I have to quarter or even more a big round or bust up by hand a piece I dont think will go well through the 12-22. I know the 22-28 will save me time, my back and sawdust! Nothing worse than trying to push around a 3 or 400 pound block when it's on the splitter folks. Save yourself the time and any frustration if your dealing with gnarly pieces and or tree service wood and get the 22-28. You'll be happy you did.

22-28? I don't know. But my 12-22 has been very, very good to me! Sometimes a nasty round gets stuck on the wedge. Extending the cylinder and wrapping a nylon strap around the ram and the stuck round allows you to retract the ram and pull the round off the wedge, no problem. Thanks Andrew Shalom, gw
I dream about these beautiful machines, but im just a poor homeowner and rescued a very old log splitter thats 10 inches off the ground.. So after i split the last of what i have im going to build it to where i can stand up instead of kneeling down.
22-28 in Axis configuration, now that'd be a monster.
But even though feasible, price point in today's market/ economy.
But like they say,money talk's.

Got my 12-22 a week ago. This thing is insane. Even my kids love it. Going from a county line TSC 22 ton splitter to this is, there are no words for this splitter. Just pure machine. Love the videos Andrew. Hope to meet you someday at a show after COVID.

Great Video Andrew those two machines are more different than I realized my 12-22 is a beast It has great power and is really good on fuel . Love it! Have you ever just for giggles have you ever built one larger? What are the cycle times on them? Can you equip them with a capstan winch as a pseudo skidded before bucking the log?
Yep....we have built a handful or 38-40's and a couple with really long strokes when requested. The 38-40 had a 6" cylinder on it. Really not a huge advantage. A properly built wedge doesn't need a lot of force to push wood through it.
You look like you have a top of the line prodcuct. I am still in the "planning stage" of getting a commercial splitter, but am definitely leaning toward an Eastonmade. What is the stroke lenght on these two machines, I couldn't find it on your website. Thank you in advance.
I do wish I would have talked with you before my purchase. Not that I don’t like what I got but I get my wood from a tree service guy and the 12-22 is having trouble with some wood.
I completely understand. What I've been doing is ripping the really ugly stuff at least once. I can tell you it will split ugly junk with the single. Slow but effective. I do like watching the knots burn knowing what a pain they were to split. Which wedge are you using ?
Mark W I have a 4 way. Also have a box wedge but haven’t had anything that we have been able to use on it.

@Michael Roberts there's guys looking for used ones all the time. Due to the lead times (which have improved) I bet you can sell your 12-22 for a darn good price and recover quite a bit to buy your 22-28. Just a thought.
nastorino today we put the 4way wedge in and the 12-22 was a beast . We split wood for 8 hours taking an hour break to eat at lunch. We got 30 ricks of wood split and stacked. All I can say is wow!!!
I'd like to see a timed trial of the 12-22 vs 22-28 1 face cord of the nice and then 1 face cord of the nastiest stuff you can find... nasty on the lift side and nice on the other side... 5 inch box wedge. I think that would give your customers a better perspective into what we are getting... thanks Andrew
I thought about that, but its really difficult because every knot is different. It would be really hard for it to be accurate.

I need to find a way to get one of these before too long. My parents are too old to be doing it the way they're doing it. The one they use now we have to use a shirt to hold on to the pullstart or it will dislocate your elbow or shoulder.

Starting a firewood business in the pacific Northwest in oregon. I don't need a powerhouse with our softwood but cycle time is very important for me. We will be splitting 100+ cord per season at a minimum to start but need something that can keep up as we grow. What do you recommend

I really should measure it some time. The 22-28 is probably twice as hard on fuel.

Hi Andrew, I'm looking for a 12-22 electric. How much price difference is it from gas to electric.
I see the link in the description is clickable now. You put an S there, too - you do that if your website has a certificate attached to it. Yours doesn't so I get a warning when I click on it. Where can I get one.
Looking at the 22/28 and I wonder why you are running such a small pump on it? By ratio of hp/gpm based on the 5/11, 9/16, and 12/22 the pump size should be over 40gpm on the 22/28. I realize that would really be pushing the limits of fluid dynamics but it would also put your cycle time into the sub 5 second range and wouldn’t compromise tonnage.
2 stage pump design limits it to that range. We do adjust the relief on the second stage of the pump to limit the amount of time its spends in low speed and make better use of the extra horsepower
Hi. Really nice splitters. No doubt they are built to outlast the people that use them. Just curious why you have such a large hydraulic tank and a cooler? I thought you could get away with a much smaller tank since you have the cooler and don’t need the heat sink. Is the large tank needed for air separation?
The large tank is still required for heat and oil circulation.
Have you ever tried to put a log in sideways on the 22-28? I’d be curious to see what would happen

Question ? Does the 12-22 can take a box spliter and can it do well for an old man like me? kinda dumb to ask but I had a stroke last year so kinda limited to what I can move or pick up , I have a old spliter that we bought new form Lowes in 1997 that works great , But still very heavey for me to move and all
It can take a box wedge easily. It takes a lot of the labour out of splitter wood for sure.
What size splitter, at a minimum, would be needed to split cotton wood found in colorado?
You should be able to do it with any of our models. Really tough stuff I would recommend a 4 way wedge for

My name is Rian Rebecca my wife and we are tired of using a box store splitter have a black diamond 25 ton but up graded to a 8.5 hp husqvarna engine instead of the 6.5 that comes on it made a big difference on power and its not as loud as the briggs that come on them plus added a 25 gallon hydraulic tank to the side if it to keep the fluid cool actually pretty fast for what it is around 8 seconds just Rebecca retired this past November of 34 years 4 months with work for the state prison and I'm doing all I can to do with firewood to sell and its wearing me out shopping around for a commercial splitter got be a better way than how I'm doing it
I need one of those. I have an endless supply of free hardwood but I am in Georgia and maybe a bit far for a delivery cost wise. I have a cheap box store splitter and it just is not strong or fast enough.

Yes, I own a 12-22 and it is blazing fast. When I'm working by myself with easy wood to split I run the engine at 1/2 throttle and it's still way fast and I can't keep up with the machine. I'm upgrading to the 22-28 because speed is not my main concern. I split gnarly wood often so I need power over speed. Having said that the 22-28 at full throttle is I'm sure faster than the 12-22 at 1/2 or 3/4 power. I have not tried that yet but rest assured bwillan, the 22-28 is FAST ! You'll need a 3 person crew to max out the speed and performance of the 22-28.
Yes the 12-22 is almost 2 seconds faster than the 22-28. In big tough rounds the 22-28 is faster because it doesn't operate in the second stage of the pump near as often
@@EastonmadeWoodSplitters is there any risk to the pump or engine or valves by running half throttle as he mentioned? The risk would be if he hit something twisted or knotty the engine would bog and unnecessarily load it too much.
I wouldn't think there'd be a valve issue, that said, yes you could bog it down on something twisted/knotted all to hell.

As a home owner that processes wood for personal use and for sale. I frequently get big gnarly wood and mostly large trunks. I’m not big commercial but would the 12-22 be enough or is the 22-28 a better step up?
If in doubt go bigger.

Now, if 28 is the maximum gpm of a two stage pump, then what's the '22' part of the 22-28, is that the minimum (gpm flow, high pressure) side of the pump, or is that the HP rating of the Honda V twin motor you're using? You may have said this but; what was the tonnage of the 12-22?
Also, what do these numbers mean? 12-22, and 22-28?
Numbers are hp/gpm and the 12-22 is 24 tons amd the 22-28 is 37 tons
Big rounds of ash 24-36 on the 12-22, which wedge do you recommend?
Box wedge and 4 way for that stuff. If it's mostly clean the box wedge will take a lot of the labour out of it. I have run into some really tough ash to split
I use the 6 way for everything. On large piece I leave the wedge all the way down and it works as a 4 way. Once you get one pass through a big piece you can start breaking it down with the 6 way.

Box wedge, does make some kindling but super easy to use. Your wood is also very consistent in size and shape. I have the single, 4 way, 6 way, and box on a 12-22 if it's above 18" I personally always go for the box wedge. I think the 12-22 has more effective splitting force with the box wedge as well. It slabs and breaks up the slab instead of trying to split the whole round. If you ever hand split it like starting from the outside instead of trying to get the round to split in half. If your trying to reduce your wedges I would get the box and 4 way. The 6 way has its application but I think the 4 way is a little better at size control in smaller rounds.
I should also point out that I only split for personal use so uniformity is not important.

Best machines yet,,, heavy made,,that's good...they just need to hook a aux fuel tank to that Honda for longer run time.and electric start that Honda .yes Honda starts good,but us old spoiled senior citizens don't like wasting energy..ha ha..I have a Briggs and Stratton 20 horse electric start on mine...,5 gallon fuel tank..
