Just came here to say: I live in a major east coast US city and even taking into consideration the exchange rate… the prices as this “expensive” grocery store would be fabulous in the US! It’s seems like super quality foods, semi-prepared foods, good stuff for reasonable prices. In the last three months my grocery bill has increased 25%, when getting the same products. Ugh. Everything is out of reach level expensive in the states right now.
Uk has very good Supermarkets from bargain basement to high end quality… Marks & Spencer food is very good and reasonably priced…. Waitrose is part of John Lewis which is a high end brand …. Good for the special purchases that cannot be found elsewhere
Central Pennsylvania is bad too. For instance, a tiny cheap frozen pizza here is more than the high end one there. Sometimes they put berries on special 2 packages for $6-7. Everything is up.
Waitrose kept me sane when I lived in the UK, having moved over from Germany I could get the dark rye bread and those glasses of pickled herrings in dill sauce ... and now in Berlin I am craving Heinz salad cream and Branston pickle :D
I live in a small market town and Waitrose is the main supermarket here. I used to think it was hugely expensive but actually they have really good offers and discounts on so you can shop well. The Itsu range is good btw - their gyoza and bao buns are delicious!
The Waitrose I visit is in Hexham, its quite a distance from me but if we are in the area, I insist on visiting. Last time I was there a woman was talking to her dog and I burst out laughing because she said "Come along David!" 😂
God I miss British Supermarkets! So much choice and variety and just so much better than the sorry excuse we get her in Oz! Thanks for the lovely shopping tour of Waitrose! 😎
So much fun to watch! (La Croix and Bubbly flavored sparkling water are so delicious.) I’m surprised you don’t have it. I didn’t think the prices there were too bad!
You are just so fun! My husband was blown away at how cheap the Oatly was!! It's about $4.50-$5 here. 😳 Those strawberries looked wonderful. Mmmmm! I hope you survived the heat ok. It's going to be in the high 90's F here (Seattle), next week, which is like being in the UK with extreme heat. No A/C. Blah! Gotta go stock up on popsicles (ice lollies). 😊👍 Take care.
The variety here is WAY better than Trader Joes. I would say more like a Central Market, Whole Foods or Sprouts. And that fruit seems reasonably priced even with the USD conversion. Thanks for the UK shopping experience!
Hi Hannah. Just to let you know that on a recent visit to the UK and with nothing in particular to do one day, I remembered your walk from Little Venice to Camden Lock, so off I went! Had a great day walking along the canal and poking about in Camden Market. Your vlogs are always interesting and entertaining. Keep up the good work!
Hi Hannah I wonder how many people choose the supermarket most accessible to them. Often Waitrose stores are more accessible for elderly people without their own transport than the other supermarkets, which are more likely to be located on the edge of town. It also has a less frantic atmosphere, these are both valid considerations when choosing where to shop.
That was a full cart. I thought it would have cost twice as much. Lol that Tesla. Ok. Lovely to see you again. Have a great time with your family. Thanks for the vlog!
When I buy lots of fruits and I can't eat it all, I just cut it in pieces and freeze it. Then I just take it out of the freezer anytime I feel like having a smoothie. I enjoy having different fruits at hand to mix them up and create new smothie flavors. Thanks for showing us Waitrose's selection of vegetarian and vegan meals. I didn't know they make these. 👍
My main shopping is done in Waitrose, in person or (for heavy and bulky stuff) delivered. Not only do they have a good selection, their customer service is fantastic. Just wish they'd open up the coffee stations again.
Hi Hannah, thanks for taking us along. It's always interesting to see the variety of what the different shops have as well as the prices. I do compare it to our prices here in South Africa and yes some are quite the same and other items are way more expensive. Please do continue shopping. I always enjoy your shopping vlogs! Laughed at your pound land comment at the end! I agree...that Tesla needs to park better! Hope you survived the heat wave!
Loved the comment about the prices, live in Ireland so, have found when I was over in the summer, somethings are cheaper in the UK and other things were cheaper in Ireland.
Good evening Hannah Bishops Avenue you have moved up in the world 🏡🏡 great food in this big Waitrose top deli, you passed the chocolate and sweet ilse incredible 🍫🍬😂😂. Sushi counter is fabulous. Waitrose is tremendous. Fantastic Vlog have a splendid weekend
We house-sit for friends sometimes, in a town where Waitrose is the main supermarket. Seriously, I can never spend less than 40 quid. Even if I went in for a pack of crisps, it would probably be 40 quid! They must have a "round it up to 40 quid" button at the till.
I'm surpised at the number of fresh items like fruits that are wrapped in plastic, it's not like that in Montreal (Canada). And te prices, oh I wish I lived in the UK...but here we have cheap electricity so 😉
Hi Hannah, 'happy start to the UK weekend' - Love your Waitrose shop. There's a Waitrose where I live in Exeter, I rarely visit. I tend to shop in Waitrose for Christmas/Easter treats.. But the Yorkshire Tea was a really good price. I usually shop at Sainsbury's and Aldi and find that while browsing food shops I end up spending a fortune as I see, grab, and spend.
Your supermarket vlogs are always so cool and I like so much when you drive around the cityl!!! Hannah, I always try to compare the prices in the UK with the prices from our supermarkets in Brazil, and I can see how good prices you have there, here in the City of Rio de Janeiro - Brazil, where I live, many similar products here sometimes have almost the same value/price in our currency, while other products are much more expensive here than the prices in the UK. I liked a lot your vlog! Have a wonderful friday!
I’m an American who loves going to the shops with you. Fun and interesting to see all of the different brands/types of foods etc.. Hope you enjoyed the Yorkshire tea. I bought my first box (Yorkshire) a few weeks ago and really enjoy it. 😊
The UK is the best place to live for people who don't like to cook much because look at all the choice or Fresh prepared meals! I would love this in my grocery stores in Canada we have little choice for fresh prepared meals. Thanks for taking us those house prices around there eeks!!
I recently bought a juicer and it took care of my wasted fruit problem. So easy to use and helps me to not feel guilty about buying fruit because I know I can just juice it if it gets close to going bad. Kinda fun to try different combos also.
Thx Hannah for this shopping vlog! It is always enjoyable to experience a UK grocery store with you, & get your perspective on the many different items that are available! I hope you have an enjoyable visit with your family, & I look forward to seeing your next "Summer In London 2022" vlog! Have a great week Hannah, & thx again for sharing your world with us! All the best!!!
I love grocery stores, so I really enjoyed this. Funny thing, though, I have been shopping via the app and picking it up from curbside for so long now! One of these days I have to go back inside and see if I’m missing out. Doubt it, but you never know. Hope your niece’s birthday was wonderful! I most especially enjoyed the bits of you talking in your car. Bad Tesla! Thank you for sharing, Hannah!
Firstly, could I say what amazing editing! I loved this one, nothing like sticky beaking at someone else's supermarket. Also enjoyed the ride, nice to see all the lovely areas. Thank you once again for such an entertaining and interesting video - your personality is just brilliant!
That was good of you to show us around Waitrose. They have such an amazing selection of groceries! You picked up some great items. I enjoyed the drive to get there too. Thank you, I love Fridays now💕
The Store looks nice. I’ve have not been to the UK 🇬🇧 in long time, looks lovely. The woman has such pretty face. I was staying North of London and everything was closed when I got off work except the pubs and curry houses.
This store is definitely less expensive than Trader Joe’s ! Some amazing products I’d love to have right now 💕. Hannah, just a tip on the fruit. If it’s going bad, add it to your meal. Peaches with chicken sautéed or even microwaved are delicious. Experiment with adding fruits before you pitch them. Great 👍 video 💕😊
That shopping spree was about the equivalent of $130. In our area Trader's is one of the cheaper stores (Lidl and Aldi being the best). Different cheeses, local and imported, are up to $10 a pound cheaper at Trader's than at the nearby Wegman's. I could not believe it when I did a price comparison. Love Trader's! Great video Hannah. 😆
@@antoinettehiggins4527 All ALDI stores closed where I live and we have 1 Trader Joe’s nearby and here they know it and markup the prices. I can do better if I drove an hour away, but with gas prices it’s not worth it 😊
@@lyndabond1443 Wow, poor you. We have several Aldi's + Lidl's and 2 Trader's closeby which we really appreciate when we see prices in the regular supermarkets, which we avoid!
@@antoinettehiggins4527 I live in the mountains. So it takes me an hour or so to get to the best shop’s. I travel a lot including the UK , but I just love where I live even with the few disadvantages. I wake up to a babbling brook, beautiful mountains and glorious quiet 😊
Hello Hannah. Just love the shops and houses of London. And your lovely bubbly personality. Don’t worry your the type to own a beautiful house because you make life so enjoyable for others. A utube celebrity!!! Anyway from Australia 🇦🇺 your my Saturday morning treat. Take care and leave your hair blonde, it looks so nice.
Enjoyed you driving in your car to Waitrose, the last Waitrose I went o w sin Bloomsbury as I was staying in adjacent apartments. Waiting for a tour of your new apartment. My advice when shopping now is to watch the sugar and carbs, Diabetes finally caught me in my old age. It's always lovely to see your smiling happy and positive face, keep up the good work. Cheers from Australia.
It'sreally interesting to see the difference uk vs where I live. We would buy whole watermelon and slice it at home. Also, nectarines and peaches are not usually prepackaged. We also buy lots of basic ingredients to cook from, not really all ready meals or premarinated meats.
Hi, the store reflects the demographic of a big city with many customers having a higher priority on convenience than on price. Outside of cities the stores have a higher proportion of less prepared fresh meat, poultry, fish, fruit and vegetables mainly because of cost. Most UK stores will have a good variety of whole melons, but yes nectarines and peaches tend to come prepackaged unless you go to specialist retailers or markets. They used to be sold loose in supermarkets but that practice has died out possibly because of handling damage.
Thank you Hannah for a great vlog in Waitrose our local one is quite small but I did find some of the products you highlighted. Enjoy your summer & look forward to seeing more vlogs in the autumn. X
Your the most humblest person I ever met on TH-cam!! Love all your vlogs from UK! We are doing a family trip in June and your videos are so helpful thank you so much for sharing!!
You are so right, Hannah. I'm in the UK for the summer (from the U.S.). I love Waitrose and I think their pricing isn't too bad. lol You didn't mention one of my favorite features: those fabulous yellow "REDUCED" labels. They help to make up the difference in the exchange rate. 🙂 It's great fun to watch your vlogs. Keep up the great work!
I love that you shop all ranges from Waitrose & Harrods, to Poundland. I like shopping like that too; sometimes I need a bargain, but also like to treat myself 💁🏻♀️
this video reminds me when I was studying in the UK 15 years ago Waitrose was the only place that I could find lychees and dragon fruits🥰 I really enjoy shopping there even though it was a very long walk from my university and usually costed a fortune. Anyway I decided to revisit the UK again later this year partly because of your vlogs, there're just so many good memories that I want to relive in 😃
Thank you for another lovely chatty video Hannah! Although I live within easy travel to London I don't visit as much as I used to. Blame Covid etc but life just hasn't got back to the way it was. Your videos are therefore super welcome! Thank you!
I have just pleasantly come across your channel and absolutely love it, and have binged so many videos over the last few days. I'm in Australia but when I was in London even I was surprised at the food prices. I'd say that in Australia these prices are absolutely double here. The one thing I have also noticed is all the packaging. Fruit and vegetables have their own packaging yet are placed in even more packaging. It's so interesting to observe the differences in places even though we are a commonwealth country and a prosperous one at that also. Thank you for sharing such cool content, I've really been enjoying it thoroughly. Love your walking tours so much also. xx
I live in both U.K. and USA. The nearest equivalent to Waitrose is not Trader Joe’s which is owned by Aldi, TJ’s ranges are really limited by comparison, it has far far fewer fresh or preservative free goods, and it’s not quite as upmarket. Whole Foods is a bit closer but by British standards it’s insanely expensive, it’s like shopping at Selfridges or Harrods Food Halls.
Great visit to my local supermarket Waitrose what you pay out nearly always is worth it, and yes always chucking out over ripe "ready to eat"fruit, thank-you for this.
I am pleased to hear you mention an increase in subscribers. I'm in some ex-pat cooking groups on f.b. and former Londoners now living abroad often mention how they miss their old home and would just love to see it more often. I have directed several people to your vlog, posting links. I started this back during Holiday shopping at Harrods, Fortnums, etc. I especially enjoy the food shopping trips like this. Please keep them coming. And seeing the prices! Wow! Those gorgeous 2 layer cakes for £16! Amazingly reasonable compared to what I could find in the eastern US for that amount. Thank you for sharing all this!
I have fun watching you videos. Been along time since I have shopped in the UK. And love seeing what your all eating now. It’s a lot different then what we use to eat in the 70’s/ 80’s looks so much more fun.
Our prices are rising in the UK but still well stocked…. Pasta…. Beans etc going up…. Many people are swapping from brands to Supermarket brands which are just as good and a lot cheaper
Yay got to this video in the end for a second watch 👌👏Stupid notifications definitely not working still. I really enjoy your presenting and commentaries Hannah and looking at your shopping purchases in Waitrose reassuringly expensive and good quality foods 👌

this video reminds me when I was studying in the UK 15 years ago Waitrose was the only place that I could find lychees and dragon fruits🥰 I really enjoy shopping there even though it was a very long walk from my university and usually costed a fortune. Anyway I decided to revisit the UK again later this year partly because of your vlogs, there're just so many good memories that I want to relive in 😃
Hope you had a nice time!
Thank you for another lovely chatty video Hannah! Although I live within easy travel to London I don't visit as much as I used to. Blame Covid etc but life just hasn't got back to the way it was. Your videos are therefore super welcome! Thank you!
Thanks Hannah loved it 🥰
I loooove to look at all the different food in grocery stores when I'm in the UK so this vlog was perfect for me!
So interesting !! I look forward to your videos each Friday!
Thank you so much! glad you like the videos
I have fun watching you videos. Been along time since I have shopped in the UK. And love seeing what your all eating now. It’s a lot different then what we use to eat in the 70’s/ 80’s looks so much more fun.
It looks like food is so affordable in the UK! Our US prices are out of control! 🤦♀️
Pretty much the same in US
Our prices are rising in the UK but still well stocked…. Pasta…. Beans etc going up…. Many people are swapping from brands to Supermarket brands which are just as good and a lot cheaper
I always thought food was inexpensive in the USA?
@@matthew6994 sadly not. Most of these pre made “microwave” meals would be close to £6.30 as opposed to £3.45-£4.65
The Waitrose in York isn’t too large but the staff are all fantastic. Lovely video, Hannah, thank you.
London is pants for Waitrose. Yep all tiny, I live in Eastbourne and there's a lovely big one!
Loads of new products to consider! Usually, it's a straight to favourites section, for a swift checkout!😎
Yay got to this video in the end for a second watch 👌👏Stupid notifications definitely not working still. I really enjoy your presenting and commentaries Hannah and looking at your shopping purchases in Waitrose reassuringly expensive and good quality foods 👌
very interesting !!!🤩
Awesome! I’m an online shopper for groceries but did a manual visit to Waitrose in lovely Monmouth whilst on holiday recently…. LOVE a good Waitrose shop 👍
