    To put it bluntly, the Japanese bands don't give a *fuck* about what genre you are trying to apply to their music. They are "genre fluid". I've listened to some songs that went from pop, to thrash, to rap, to jazz all in one go. Japanese bands *start* with the kitchen sink and then add everything else in. They don't do anything halfway.
    Ningen Isu (Nin-Gen Ees) have been around since 1987. And, yeah, Sabbath was definitely an influence. This song, 'Heartless Scat', is what finally helped propel them to fame in the current wave of Japanese music.
    Glad you're enjoying your musical voyage with all these Asian bands. Journey on travelers.

    They formed in 1987 and have released 25 or 26 albums. Definitely Sabbath influenced. But, of course they play other styles. Scat is the method of singing. I'm sure you knew that. If your interested in other songs, The Colour out of Space and Namahage are bangers.

    “Scat” is a Jazz term for singing without words. “Shabadabadia” is the scat part of Heartless Scat.
    Dickie Betts and Tony Iommie play SGs, among other guitar greats.
    NINGEN ISU (“human chair,” the title of a famous, creepy short story) are more of a Progressive Metal band. Here is concert footage of them covering 20th Century Schotzoid Man (King Crimson) from 1990: th-cam.com/video/YFo_17KL9bs/w-d-xo.html Hear the bassist sing.
    Here’s a TV appearance from 1990 that includes interviews and music videos: th-cam.com/video/6OqflSo60c8/w-d-xo.html

      SHABADABADIA, JUST GOT A NEW MEANING SO IT IS NO LONGER CONSIDERED SCAT. IT MEANS: AN UNEDUCATED WHITETRASH BLOWHARD THAT MOCKS SCAT BECAUSE HE SEES IT AS LOW HANGING FRUIT FOR A RACIST ATTACK.

    Yes, Black Sabbath. The guitarist and bassist formed the band in 1987. The drummer is slightly newer. They are big on H.P. Lovecraft, several of their songs like Colour out of Space are based on his stories. The guitarist is dressed like an Edo era scholar, the bassist is a priest, and the drummer is is a yakuza (gangster).

    They are known to be the Black Sabbath of Japan. They are known to write songs with very deep lyrics which are very steep in Zen Buddhism. The lead singer, guitarist, songwriter got a degree in Buddhism teachings and the bald guy bass player has a Russian Literature degree.

    You should pronounce it with a distinct "g" and a silent "u"

    Why are you acting like a joke. They are old people who still have value. More than you who are worthless old but sit and criticize others. How good are you or how much do you know about Japanese culture? You don't know anything. If you don't like their music, you should look past it. Don't take it as a joke.
    Show some respect for Asians.

    I guess people find it offensive when they hear a comparison without any reasoning.
    Still: In a way you're right. As an other reactor, Ryan Mear, once said about Band-maid. They got this progressive rock thing, but with a lot of pop-sensibility. He is one of the biggest maidiac among the reactors, great musician and done a few covers of them. That there is this "shabadabadeooo" in the song is quite naturals since scat is: "In vocal jazz, scat singing is vocal improvisation with wordless vocables, nonsense syllables or without words at all. In scat singing, the singer improvises melodies and rhythms using the voice as an instrument rather than a speaking medium."

    • @truebrodown
      @truebrodown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      After being a metalhead for 30 years, comparison is impossible not to do. So there is reasoning. Hopefully, some of my comparisons will help people unfamiliar with the bands I compare these musicians to will end up going down those bands rabbit hole. Much the way I did with these Japanese bands. If someone compared them to a band I didn't care for I likely wouldn't have listened to them.
      If not for TH-cam I likely would have never listened to Lovebites and Crystal Lake. Two bands I now have on my playlist rotation. I hope I encourage others to do the same.

    • @andreaspedersen3952
      @andreaspedersen3952 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@truebrodown Indeed.. though I did somehow discover Band-maid myself, reaction channels were the catalyst. First seeing Nightwish (symphonic metal), then watching the same reacting to Babymetal. Then algorithm notice it and recommend Japanese bands. Which lead me to Band-maid, Lovebites and Gacharic Spin. GS is a mixed bag since they're musically all over the place. Mostly popish... but "I wish I" (video is great btw), and quite brutal (metal) if you want to check it out.

    After a year since I first listened to them I am still not sure if I like Ningen Isu. What I can tell you is this is one of the least go-high songs xD
    Hair Band...Japan gave birth to their own genre of similar kind of movement in the 90s, the Visual Kei. That band you did (Jupiter it was?) was one of that, but the most popular of them is X Japan, the biggest japanese band in the 90s. I'm aware they give problems with copyright, but they are good. My favorite songs from them are Kurenai or X.

    • @truebrodown
      @truebrodown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Most bands have Copyright issues. I'm not big enough to request a whitelist from the producers yet. That's how some reactors can play the videos without covering them up. Hopefully one day I will have enough subs to allow me that ability. Until then, it doesn't stop me from checking out new and old bands.
      I liked Ningen Isu. Reminds me so much old school metal days.I remember X Japan from yeeeears ago but couldn't name a song. We are pondering reacting to them with several more suggestions we have received over the past week. When we started this venture it was just a Lovebites request and we have really enjoyed going down the rabbit hole of Japanese metal.

    Re the kiss on the forehead thing, every language has certain phrases and expressions that have meanings that are context based and might seem very strange when literally translated into another language. If someone was to take your conversation and translate it to Japanese there would be just as many head scratchers for a Japanese speaking listener to deal with.

    "Scat" also means a specific singing style.... like the one he uses in the song ;)
    And yea, the bassplayer actually sings lead on some other songs, even the drummer does sometimes.
    Also as you probably know by now, they aren't all THAT old. The band has been around since the late 80s. Metal and rock started a bit later in Japan than it did in the US. Arguably the biggest Metal/Rock band Japan ever had so far was X Japan and they were founded in 1982. There is also Show-Ya who probably started the whole all-female-rock/metal-band thing in Japan and were founded in 1981. They are actually still active, all of the ladies somewhere around 60 years old by now. Released a new album just last year.

    You are correct- Ningen Isu started in 1983. The vocal section that you laughed at is called Scat and is used in a number of music genres and that same old riff changed before you said it. Just a note- Baby Metal are not acomplete band. They are a vocal/dance group with a backing band. When their agency put them together, not all of them had heard metal before. I Heard this from their interviews.

    When Babymetal are the youngest of the famous Japanese metal bands, Ningen Isu is some of the oldest.
    Not that Babymetal haven't been around a long time (12 years now), but by age still the youngest.
    Love them both. A next react to Ningen Isu might be: Namahage. Which surprisingly has a Babymetal counterpart: Catch Me If You Can.
    5:35 nobody said it's a perfect translation. :-)
    9:19 but Black Sabbath is British, I guess you meant to say Western.
    If you want Japanese hair metal band, please react to a video called: KURENAI (X JAPAN) 1989.02.04
    Be aware they are "Visual Kei" which in isn't directly hair metal band, but was surely part of the inspiration.

    J-Metal is a 'black hole' There are a BUNCH of Great bands, and Dozens of Interesting bands. Probably because they developed a National Love for Metal when the 80's Metal bands played in Japan - and also because Music Education is Part of the Curriculum in Japanese schools! BTW, Doki Doki Morning was the absolute Worst choice YOU guys could have made for Baby Metal. They aren't a personal favorite, but there is a LOT more to them than you suspect. But keep exploring - it's fun for us J-Metal heads to see your Reactions. It's One Hell of a Journey.
