Loved seeing Hannah opening her mouth like a little bird when she thought she was getting some taco soup!! Love seeing your children eat so well; it gladdens my heart
I love seeing any version of bread pudding! It reminds me of my youngest child (now early 30’s). His favorite meal was French toast. But he absolutely turned his nose up at the mention of bread pudding. But when I called it “oven French toast” he ate it like a starving pauper. ❤ahh. Memories. Don’t blink, young moms! The days are long but the years are short!
My dad (who grew up in the depression) didn’t cook very often did make good gravy, he only used water or broth. NEVER MILK OR CREAM! He called it “poor man’s gravy”. I remember being little (maybe 5 years old) being VERY EXCITED that he was cooking (because I KNEW HE was making gravy) and asking him if we were getting “DEAD MAN’S gravy”. He laughed and said Yes! We ARE getting dead man’s gravy! Don’t have a lot of memories as a child, but that stuck with me.
Looks like a lot of yummy goodness to me. I've been doing this challenge along with everyone, as I did last year, and we're doing pretty well. For me, by doing this challenge, I am able to take part of the money that is "saved' and relocate it to building up non edible needs around the house, pay extra on some bills, and/or get some things e need/want ourselves. We're going to try to make it through March this year, just like we did last year. THEN, I'm pretty sure our freezers will be empty of fruits, veggies, and meats and we'll restock as the sales hit throughout the year and as we get fresh garden stuff....then start over next Jan.
When your children say they love the homemade version better, you have done something right! Hannah is not going to go hungry even if she has to numb her way through the food 😊.
My daughter was eating spaghetti and I didn't blend the carrots well enough she was like MOM THERE'S CARROTS IN THE SPAGHETTI !!! I was like sssh your brother doesn't know that ! 😂😂😂
Really like the fact that your children so often get to choose their preferences of foods at meal times. While there certainly is a place for "this is what's for dinner", and trying out new foods as they grow, keeping meal times enjoyable for everyone as much as possible like you do is so lovely to see❤
We raised our 5 children who are now 42 to 51 years of age, and I am still trying to make meals for just the 2 of us. I have yet to master that, so there are lots of leftovers. You amaze me. God bless. ❤😊
You’ve inspired us to do a mini pantry challenge here this weekend thanks to a cold snap. No one really wants to leave the house, so I’ve been raiding the freezer and pantry in the spirit of the Three Rivers Challenge. Thankfully there are only three of us. 😆 Friday night, I threw together a tortellini soup with some beef tortellini, pork sausage patties, a bag of kale that was in its last legs (when I realized we were out of frozen spinach), and the last two bags of garden tomatoes from our 2022 garden out of the freezer. Added some onion powder and garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and beef broth, and ended up with a soup the whole family loved. It was great with some garlic cheese Texas toast we forgot in the freezer. We’ve got a ton left, so we might add some cream to the soup tonight to make it stretch a bit further and try a creamier base with it this time to see which way we like it best. Last night, my husband scrounged up some pork roll hot dogs from the freezer, a forgotten pack of hot dog rolls, and half a bag of tots languishing in the back of the freezer to finish off with some random veggie bits and cold salads that needed clearing out of the fridge. Ordinarily, we might have just ordered in Chinese and thrown away the ends of those few scattered bits of veggies and salads. But it was great to find a use for them and make some room in the freezer, too. 😊 Then, that soup stretched so far, it’s been keeping us in lunches with some homemade flatbread pizza, too. (My husband often buys pizza dough to make breadsticks and loses a ball of dough in the fridge occasionally, so we round the lost ones up and make personal pizzas once a week or so, too.)
I LOVE that your using failed apple jelly in baking recipes and not just using it as apple syrup for your waffles. I've been watching your videos all month and I'm totally impressed that you're winging it with so many dishes and your children seem to Love everything you make.
Hi Jessica! I love watching your channel! A really easy way to make fishsticks is to bread them in arrowroot with whatever seasoning you'd like. I use sea salt, paprika and onion powder. You don't even need to use eggs then, which is how my daughter prefers them. They are very lightly coated in the arrowroot and fried and are really tasty. Just an idea!
Good Morning, Jessica! I made your hamburger buns last week but mixed the flours with wheat, spelt and regular bread flour. They were wonderful. I do a lot of pulled chicken and Turkey as my husband has an allergy to beef, pork and lamb from a tick bite! I also made raspberry jam yesterday, removed most of the seeds and saved them, put them in a pot with water, cooked them on low for awhile, and used the liquid, warmed it, added tea bags and made raspberry tea so nothing was wasted. God Bless you all!
Thank you SO much for making videos like this. As a young mom with a husband who can't have gluten and a son who can't have dairy or peanuts (similar to your oldest), this channel has been such an encouragement to me!! I am amazed each video at your wealth of knowledge and ideas! ❤
Happy Sunday Everyone!! Watching Hannah's Face when that spoon kept passing her lips🤣 Too Funny.. I've seen other reels with parents doing the babies like that to see the reaction always hilarious 🤣 Great ideas Jessica.. I made Italian Garlic bread from scratch this week 🙌🏽 Something I've been wanting to do but scared at the same time .. After church I plan to can some chicken soup bases 🙌🏽 As always Much Love From OKC ❤
Those who’ve never had the luxury of canned beef chunks don’t know what they’re missing! My parents & their siblings always did this together. I ❤️❤️ it!
LOVE your laid back way dear. You and Jess cover my weekends and Meg n Ben are all week Just recently found Little Mountain Ranch … my now 4 only ♥️♥️♥️♥️ I had to downsub.. and kept only the ones that don’t talk at ya like it’s a cooking show. 😄😄. Hannah has grown so fast. Whoa!! She’s beautiful Jessica - all your children are. My children have grown up but I have lots of fur babies-, hens , goats, bees 1st full year and this year I’m hoping a cow Lord Willing. 🙏
I always enjoy your videos on Sundays. I know your older son likes to bake. Do your other kids like to cook? I am so glad your kids don't have cell phones. The only computer they use is for school. Your kids do chores which is good
My parents were foster parents when I was a kid. There were 16 people in our family at one point in time. All of us kids had cups, plates and bowls with our names on them lol. It made it much easier on my Mom if we all tended our own dishes. Your cups with colored bands remind me of that.
I’ve mentioned this on another account. When we had chickens during the particularly cold winters years ago in the UK, we’d block off the nesting boxes except one. Chickens would take turns keeping the previous laid eggs warm when laying their own. These days with brooder heat plates/warmers, perhaps putting one under a nesting box might help keep eggs from freezing.
Jessica next time you are cooking savoury food in your oven on put a tray of onions still with their skin on & place in the bottom, they are delicious baked and can be sliced & added to so many dishes. I personally love them chopped up with cooked eggs as a savoury filling or added to salads or bread.
Jessica, I learn so much from you! Our family is very small… that being said…. Gardening (on a much smaller scale) and food preservation, I guess would be considered a hobby? I was so fortunate to receive a freeze dryer recently. I’m really looking forward to more tutorials on freeze drying! When I tell you I know NOTHING, that’s being generous! I feel so grateful to have found your channel…. Continued blessings to you and yours!
Jessica, you are such an inspiration to me! I've been using up stuff from the freezers and pantries. I have stuff upstairs and basement. Once I made some space I could move things around and found things I had forgotten were in there! I've been slowly watching your older videos and timing was great for me. Saw your video from 3 years ago about preserving your butternut squash and garlic and that's exactly what I have planned for today! And the one with Adam starting off the new year where you couldn't stop laughing at the end! Back then you had 6K subscribers, ha ha! I feel like I should wish you Happy Birthday again, lol. Got some new ideas from you again with your wonderful recipes and substitutions this week. Thank you for your great videos.
You impress me with your organization. Im 70 and retired w just myself and my husband. I can’t keep my house organized like you. Keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing your lives.
I thoroughly enjoy your channel. I see in you an excellent example of the Proverbs 31 woman. Thank you for sharing all you do with us your viewers. I agree about the pear sauce. It is a level up from applesauce! I made it for the first time last week after getting a deal from my Azure driver on a produce box of pears he was trying to unload. (They were past peak ripeness.) $10 for a whole box. What a unexpected blessing. And I made juice with scraps. Two products for one very low price. (7 pints of sauce and 4+ quarts of juice)
Thank you for the brownie recipe, I'll try it out soon. I made your cinnamon rolls at the weekend and they were fantastic. I would like to share a recipe with you as well. I found it here on TH-cam - it's a vegan butter recipe that I thought might be a nice treat for you and your family, since you can't have dairy. I made it few times and it's really good, plus it doesn't take more than few minutes to make. All you need is: 100 gram of odourless coconut oil, melted - that's the steamed coconut oil, not the fractioned one, 80 gram of olive oil, 50 ml of plant milk, A pinch of turmeric and a pinch of salt to taste. First mix the milk with turmeric and salt, then add the olive oil and coconut oil. Blend with a stick blender until thick and creamy and chill in the fridge for at least an hour. The original recipe said to blend it again after an hour if there's a separation of ingredients, but I found that there's no need for it. Mine never separates. Just take it out of the fridge few minutes before using, it spreads better. It makes just over half a pint. Apologies , but I don't have the recipe in cups. It came from a German channel and I don't have a measuring tool to convert it. I grew up with the metric system so that's what I use anyway. I hope that you, or some of your viewers find it useful. It really is a good substitute for those that can't have dairy but don't want to eat a highly processed margarine.
I made long grain and wild rice cooked in chicken broth and added dried cranberries and pine nuts. It was really good. Just throwing that out there as an idea for the wild rice.
Good afternoon my dear friend, another great video of what you ate!! You are such an inspiration to all, and a clever cook to use what you have!! I always look forward to Sundays with you, have a blessed week!!!
I love using up leftovers and you always seem to come up with something that is new to me. These videos are certainly a happy place to learn new things, full of positive fun ideas!
U absolutely can make yeast. All u need is a few tablespoons to make more dry yeast powder. I cant remember the recipe off the top of my head but u bloom and reproduce it with flour i think then dehydrate or freeze dry it. Easily googled.
Grew up in Mentor (NE Ohio) remember that cold air, like a knife, with each breath. Now live in So Cal where "cold" is 50 deg. Look forward to pantry challenge every year. Has me using up what's in my freezer.
That, my friend, was simple amazing! Very yummy food for your family’s bellies! You are an awesome mom! Side note: Have you ever noticed during editing how many times you use the word “here” in your videos?😜 It’s probably sort of like using “you know” or “right” a lot, which I’ve been known to do. 😬 You know? 😂
For me, living alone, I'm trying to work.on emptying my freezer and pantry. I only buy the minimum at the grocery store. I think if I work.on it for a couple of months, it'll make a big difference. ❤
I make a breakfast casserole regularly using leftover grits. Sometimes I will make grits cakes and fry them up but I usually make casserole and add nettle and herbs and greens like you’re doing with spinach. It’s really good but I’m from south Georgia so maybe I’m biased about the grits 😂
Love this challenge. I'm happy you started it. I water glass also . I got chicken and duck eggs in the water glass method. I open my duck eggs , it coming a year old . I made a breakfast casserole the eggs are still good . I'm doin more duck eggs soon
I enjoy a cup of coffee every Sunday morning watching your channel. You and mountain ranch are my two favorite homesteading channels. Thank you for all your hard work teaching everyone new homesteading.
I am not a fan of wild rice either but a side I do love is cook approx. 1/2 to 3/4 cups of wild rice, 1/4 to half cup cous cous, the seeds of 1 pomegranate, 1/4 to 1/2 cup of cashews toss in some raisins or cranberries - no dressing the juice from the pomegranate adds a nice sweetness - can be served warm or cold - you could substitute some of your freeze dried fruit chopped up for the raisins/cranberries and substitute any nuts for the cashews - you can add extra seeds, nuts or dried fruit if you want - wild rice is a high protein grain so a little goes a long way
I put up enough for myself for the winter and I haven't left home and gone shopping since way before Christmas I'm only using what I have in the pantry
Your channel if my favorite-especially your food/cooking videos! I, too, wish you posted more than once a week. But completely understand why you don’t. You’re one busy mama! 💕
try adding another canister of gas into your coconut whip! After you release one, just unscrew the canister side and screw in another one, you'll find the coconut whip can hold up quite well, it's usually just a matter of one canister not being enough :)
Good morning, it's so great to be with you this morning. I also do your challenge. And there are now some things that turn out: I have any things for my trashcan.... All my work shows up from last year,it's great to see and work with all the things I canned. I say thank you for this great idea. Send you all my best wishes from the Eastcoast of Germany Yours Sylvia❤
Even though I’m not officially participating in the pantry challenge, I always aspire to make meals from our pantry, so I am in the spirit of things. Tonight’s dinner was pork chops from the freezer, canned potatoes and canned green beans we grew in our garden. And I made O Henry bars for dessert for the weekend because I had all the ingredients. I haven’t purchased any groceries yet in 2024!
Your son had sketti mouth. Haha. That's what we called it having spaghetti sauce around the mouth when we were young. Everything looks delicious. Lorraine
Funny what you learn about yourself or are at least forced to face during a focused period like the pantry challenge. For instance, I have a condiment problem. That is, I really never meant one I didn't like so am prone to buy them but often don't make a plan to use them or to use them more than once. Sauces, dressings, etc. I'm an equal opportunity waster! I also have an "herbs and spices" cupboard that is a mess! I came up with an idea on how to improve that and will let you know how it works.
My mum is lactose intolerant which started when she got 85. Today, for her 88 birthday I baked her your apple loaf. She is so happy 😊 Loves cakes 😊 We both thank you for a recipe 🌹
Everything you make looks delicious! It is a gift to be so creative. What a blessing for all of you! Always fun to see what you create. I am particpating in your challenge, but on a very small scale as there are only two of us now. No matter how small, this challenge is a wonderful motivator to use up things before they go bad. Being creative with how things are used is a lot of fun too. Thanks for all the ideas you share with us. I always look forward to your videos! Blesssings! 💙💙💙
Good morning 🙏😊. I do love your Sunday morning videos! I always learn something from you and was reminded by your bands on the cups of when my children were young and I used Tupperware cups with lids and write their names on them ! I even had their friends names on some of the lids for when they were there. It sure does save on dishes! Have a blessed week and thank you again for the pantry challenge! 🙏😊
Just wanted to thank you for the tip on cleaning off cal lime build up on water glass jars. I just assumed it would always be on them, lol. It works! I tried it this morning and my jar is clean. Thanks!
Your such a great role model :) u teach us such great and healthy ways and that we can do it. In my 19years of being a mom now and to a juvenile diabetic- I’ve always been trying to learn the old fashion ways and real ways of cooking. Better for my son and all of us, but now he’s 19 and eats how he wants 😥
Hannah hoping for some soup while her sister was eating, so funny:))) I am sure you know that sesame seeds are wonderful source of calcium. Wonderful variety of meals:)))
Thank you for the carrot cake muffin and applesauce bread recipes! They were delicious! I brought the bread to work and everyone loved it! I shared your TH-cam site so hopefully you will enjoy more “friends.”
Another good video thank you. I tried the carrot souffle and yum yum! Carrots are not my favorite but I eat them because they're good for me and this was very tasty. I gave some to my friends too. This will be a regular for me now. Have a great day.
Your brownie dessert inspired me to make some for us tonight after our baked spaghetti and breadsticks. An early birthday dinner for me since we won't all be home to celebrate tomorrow night. I love all of your videos. ❤ blessing from northern Illinois.
Happy Sunday Funday Jessica!!!! We are enjoying the snow here in Michigan. About 20 inches in 2 days. Glad to see your video pop up. Happy Home church day. ❤❤❤😊😊😊 your Michigan Fan and Friend Araminta
I’ve been enjoying seeing all the different challenge videos. I have never participated but I am making a conscious effort to go through my pantry and freezers. I have been using up some canned goods and am going through Baking supplies to assess what I need to buy less of and better ways to store. I dumped out some flour yesterday and honestly probably have more to go through still. It’s helping me to better gauge and better store my items. It’s a learning process for sure. Thanks for all you do to share with us.
Loved seeing Hannah opening her mouth like a little bird when she thought she was getting some taco soup!! Love seeing your children eat so well; it gladdens my heart
I wish you did more than one video a week. You are my favorite homesteading channel. I look forward to Sunday's. ❤️
Wow, thank you!
I totally agree! You are the very best.
I watch a few homesteading videos, and by far you are my favorite! Look forward to your videos every week 😊👍
I strongly agree !!! Love you and your channei !! Look so forward to Sunday mornings !
AGREED!
I look forward to Sunday mornings for your video release! Thank you and hope you and the family are well! ❤️
Same here! After church I watch with my lunch!
Ms. Jessica, you are truly amazing. I admire you so much. ❤

Thank you for these videos. It is how I start my day and gives me the motivation and discipline to do the same things in my home.
We put a little bit of maple syrup over a salmon patties. Yum
Poor little Hanah wanted some taco soup. Her mouth was open and ready for a spoon full. All your children are so sweet.😊
😬 You know? 😂
Aw Hannah was so cute, like a little bird opening her mouth.
With food prices rising..I love and appreciate that you dont waste any food. Great job!
I’m tired just watching this. You are amazing and your family is blessed to have you.
Those are some dedicated ballet teachers and students to brave that cold! Dance is such a wonderful thing.
For me, living alone, I'm trying to work.on emptying my freezer and pantry. I only buy the minimum at the grocery store. I think if I work.on it for a couple of months, it'll make a big difference. ❤
Awesome meal planning. Thank you for sharing. Blessings
Good to know. Thank you!!
Wild rice is lovely in a creamy chicken soup!
The Pantry Challenge videos are my favorites. I really look forward to them!
Glad you like them!
I haven’t purchased any groceries yet in 2024!
the chips(fries) and pea,s with the fish is beautiful,,proper british food lol maybe try that next time xx
You are so inspiring Jess and you have such a beautiful family. Thank you for all the work that you put into your videos and channel.
She is so happy 😊 Loves cakes 😊
We both thank you for a recipe 🌹
Happy birthday to her 🎉
@@threerivershomestead Than you 🍒
Love my Sunday nights with you. Have a blessed week. ❤
I love your Longaberger recipe basket!
Blesssings! 💙💙💙
Little Hannah is growing way too fast!
Three Rivers Pantry Challenge and Every Bit Counts Challenge are my favorites!
Thanks Jessica for organizing these.
You are so welcome!
I have never seen any of the channels make homemade fish sticks what a great idea and as you said a much healthier choice. Anna In Ohio
Your children are so beautiful! That little Hannah is just adorable 😍.
Thank you!! 😊
Thanks!
Glad I could help!
You are the most organized homesteader I have ever seen on youtube. And believe me, I have seen a lot of homesteading videos. Really a gem ♥
Thank you so much for the encouragement ☺️
Thank you for the homemade fish sticks. Love that.
Jessica you are the most creative cook I have watched. You have a great channel and offer us so much. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
New here. So glad i found you. Watching was so calming to me and got so many ideas. You he have a beautiful family. Hope you all have a blessed week.
Thank you! You too!
Great healthy meals, yummy!! I love mayonnaise in my mashed potatoes, makes them so creamy😊.
You are so imaginative with your food. Not a lot of duplication, using up bits and pieces, and above all, healthy and delicious. WTG, Momma.
Yum! Taco soup looks delicious
Love your meals Jessica! You always inspire me! Val C ❤️🙏🏻
I bet you could pre make a bunch of the fish sticks untried and freeze then pull out to fry so you can do the harder work once for multiple meals
I very much appreciate how you take a moment and show the foods you make under natural light by the window. Everything looks so appetizing!
Sweet little Hannah wanted some of the soup sooooooo bad!😊
I love your pantry challenges! Gives me so many ideas to be less wasteful!
