I love how you use everything. Pear juice becomes jello. Leftover beans go into the soup. You inspire me to get more creative and not let anything go to waste.

I love watching the little ones work together to bring in fire wood. So many people handicap their kids by not expecting them to participate in the Running of the house.

Or pay them for contributing. We always had small jobs the children were expected to do and then I always had a list in the fridge of extra jobs and how much each paid. Interestingly payment didn’t depend on difficulty of task but how much I didn’t enjoy them. By 16 the boys and girl all did their own laundry, ironing, self care (grooming like showers, hair washing, teeth brushing) and changing their own sheets every week. They all learned to cook, no mater their gender and to change a flat or the the oil in a car. There was more to it. I added a new responsibility (age appropriate) as a rite of passage on their birthdate each year. At 3 they made their own bed but I made it simple at first with just a comforter and pillow. It worked out great. They are all very successful but most importantly good, kind people engaged in volunteer work on top of their full time jobs. Keep up the good work Mom!

I have seen others that use their preserved food but Jessica does it with such flair. I appreciate that she actually makes entire meals from the pantry and love the way she incorporates things like the pear juice into a treat for the kids. I also like the small batch preserving she does that helps avoid waste and can be incorporated into daily life. Sometimes we just have to do the big production thing if too much ripens at one time but so much more practical and fun to do the small batches and watch the pantry fill up a little at a time

@@dianaburns6879 no arguments here. I was mainly pointing out that if you wanted some inspiration, she has started a very successful pantry challenge and I enjoy seeing what people come up with. I can be pretty creative myself when I have to throw some things together quickly that I have in my stock 😆

The pantry challenge videos are my favorite videos. I wish your camera did justice to your pastries! For some reason they come out pale. I know you explained it once. These must be a lot of work, but you do a good job with them. I’ve watched others that get a little tedious because they put in five minutes of watching a mixer run. You give enough information that I can make the dish without getting that useless time. Thanks so much. Deb from Florida

Please continue these what you eat in a week series. I find it fascinating to see how you cook up the food you preserve in so many ways. I’ve always loved to cook. I started cooking my family’s supper at age 14. Mom worked until 5 pm so I wanted to help out. I’m 70 yo and still love to cook. Now it’s for my older and my younger sister, as we retired together.

I used my used canning lids for keeping my canning jars clean in storage. I store my empty jars in a shed, with my other canning and baking dishes, pans. So keeping the jars clean makes it easier to start a canning project. No squash bugs hiding in jars. Keep the meal plans coming. We love them.😊

I was attracted to winter sowing this year, for some reason it just clicked (I had heard about it in the past) and so I am learning more about it and will be starting my winter sowing very shortly. I think it would be great if you brought us along and show us as your plants start to sprout and the benefits that you get from winter sowing. I have read that the plants that are winter sown are heartier and healthier, so I am excited to see the results that I get. I’m glad that you mentioned flowers since I was just reading from a gardener in Canada that says the one thing he has done to get a larger crop is to inter-plant beneficial flowers in his garden in order to attract more pollinators.

You are the queen of cooking from the pantry! I love this content! I have a lot of winter squash that I have not used. I am going to freeze dry them and try making the pumpkin pie mix. Your ideas of creating different meals out of what you have are so helpful. We will be having a pig butchered this spring, so I am also going to ask the butcher about the ends of the bacon. I wonder how much of the animals get wasted when you have an animal butchered. I am going to talk to the butcher about that to see what other products I can get. If you have any suggestions about things to ask your butcher for that they don't give you, I would love to see a video about that. Thank you for your ideas. I use many of them.

"Queen of homemade healthy snacks from scratch".👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
When my firstborns were small(twins), I used to make most of everything from scratch, especially snacks, by the time I had my son (who is now grown), We ate less variety of snacks and now "mostly" fruits, bars, nuts and popsicles. I saw donuts, rice cakes, and jello in the store a few weeks ago and remembered that we used to love them. My son and little ones have never had jello or rice cakes. I enjoyed this.
I'm looking forward to seeing your garden in the Spring and summer.💖💖

It’s good to see life moving on. Your video was a good reminder to get what’s in the freezer and cans used up. Here in SoCal I am finally done my cold season transplanting and sowing. We also had a tornado warning last week, so we had to process lemons and oranges. I picked everything ripe. In the end it didn’t hit us, which we are grateful for. In this situation I was really happy to finally have my freeze dryer. 7.5 gallons of orange juice done this way, and many in quarters. We also made orange marmalade and I fermented 2 gallons of lemons.

I grew up with homemade "Mommy McNuggets" when I was a kid. Now I like making them for my kid. I always pound the chicken breasts to get them a bit flatter and so they look more like the kind you get from a fast food place. The finished nuggets freeze really well too, then they reheat just like the ones you buy from the grocery store (in the oven or the airfryer). I usually make a couple larger chicken cutlets at the same time, they're perfect for fried chicken sandwiches, or chicken parm, or pretty much anything.
The premade ones from the store are convenient, but they're made with "chicken goo" and who knows what else.

For hard boiling fresh eggs, get your water boiling. When its ready, i turn the water down and then use a stainless spider to drop them in gently. Bring the heat back to med high and cook for 13 minutes. Have a bowl of ice water ready and shock them when you take them out. They peel like a dream. 13 is for a hard boiled, less time for runny eggs is you want. That is the only way i can get them to peel nicely. And i make a lot of deviled eggs lol.

I always keep a sandwich size bag of chopped peppers in my house freezer and use them in eggs, italian dishes, fajitas, philly cheese steak sandwiches... they are close at hand and very convenient.

Jessica, I absolutely love how you use every product, you try never to be wasteful at all. I’ve been adapting this now and not only does it help the environment but it makes me feel better and saves me money. Thank you.

I totally enjoyed this, the yummy food and watching your younger boys doing chores 💕. Stuffed pepper soup or casserole would be my choice for using up peppers. Watching you cook makes me think about how the food industry has adulterated healthy ingredients in the name of convenience. Leeza at Sutton’s Daze shared a little talk about how in just a couple generations of convenience food people no longer know how to cook from scratch.

An other great way to hard boil fresh eggs is in the instant pot. you just put them in there with a little water turn it on high for 5. min then let it naturally release for 5 more min then they get put straight into an ice water bath and they peel perfectly almost every time!

Awesome video . I also appreciate learning how to use the canned pear juice to make jello , the beet root powder to color the poptart icing, the bird feeder block of food, and the mayo. I need to make some mayo. Thank you. Please continue to share meals and meal preservation tips.
