Since Zero was able to crash the shuttle into the Eurasia colony in X 5, the impact of the colony was lessened but still forced humans to live underground for a certain period of time. The fact that it only did that and not set off any volcanic eruptions is only because of plot armor! That entire planet should have gone into the next ice age earlier than scheduled.
Oh, interesting, thanks for summing up those endings. Do you know what ending technically leads into x7? I'm playing it now, and it's almost like the events of x5 and x6 didn't happen. It's so weird.
@@MeguhFan None of the endings for X6 leads into X7. Officially, the X series was suppose to end at X5. The timeline would have gone like this. Classic series goes into X series. X series ends at X5 which leads into Megaman Zero. Megaman Zero goes into the Megaman ZX Saga. Megaman ZX abruptly ends with ZX Advent which could have had a possible 3rd and final act before going into the Legends series. The main reason why The X Saga was suppose to end at 5 because Infune wanted to take Zero in a different direction. X5 only has 2 endings depending on how you dealt with the Eurasia Colony. Spoiler Alert! If you did destroy it and Zero is still playable, you will fight against X and he's suppose to "die" in the end after Sigma's defeat. However, if you fire the Enigma Cannon and that fails, but Zero manages to destroy the colony, even if the colony crashes on Earth, you fight against Zero, he STILL DIES after defeat Sigma, and X's mind is wiped from any memory of Zero. And here's where things get MORE convoluted! Zero does have 1 interaction with a Dr. Light capsule! After you defeat Illumina on Infinity Minjinion's stage, go into the teleportation field. Once you go in the 2nd part of the stage, travel to the left side of the screen for a Dr. Light Capsule and just read the dialogue after Light gives him the armor part. I won't go into any more detail than that. Remember, you have to play as Zero on that specific stage, but there is a chance you will have to defeat High Max or Dynamo to get out of that alternate path.
Not sure what it says about me that this game left such a trauma bound mark on me as a kid that I've probably watched more hour long video essays discussing it than I've actually spent playing it.
I thought this game was decent. I didn't mind the level gimmicks as much on the second playthrough, I thought the parts were handled way better than in X5 since they're tied to specific reploids that never change, so you can actually route the game without being a wizard like in X5. The Gate stages are a total mess however, although there are sections I do like here and there (like the screw you room with the rising lava you have to instantly exit or die). The boss fights in general are all over the place, some were decent, some were crap (it's been a while since I've played X6, the only one I recall liking was Shield Sheldon). Best soundtrack in the series by far, especially the X2 remixes at the end, Turtloid's stage, all truly dank. When you eventually come back for X7 you'll be begging to play X6 instead, that game is such a bore. If you can slog through that though X8 is pretty great.
It had some cool stuff in it but the bad stuff is all over. I wanted to love this game when I first played it but could not. Ive warmed up to it over the years.
Great analysis! To your point about the rental market, I rented a PS2 just to play this game, haha. I'm a hardcore Mega Man player. Best music in the series besides X1, IMO. I wish they developed the Isoc/Dr Wily connection a little more. You should check out the Zero series on GBA down the road.
A couple of things: -The Reploid that gives you the additional jump height is in a spot devoid of Nightmare Viruses. So you'll never lose it forever. In fact, a lot of them are in safe spots. -The side areas aren't random. That's only Ground Scaravich, and even then it's a fixed pool of rooms. Granted yeah, none of these rooms are designed greatly. -Also you kinda missed the intended way to damage High Max. Granted, how'd any figure it out is a mystery and a half. For X, you're supposed to stun him with a Charged Shot and then follow-up with any special weapon. For Zero, you can stun him with any special technique and then follow-up with a regular attack. -In defense of all of the loose ends, I actually like this, like sure you won't get invested in all of them but it's nice to know that there are things happening outside of the games. It makes the world a bit richer Other bits: -Re: Gate's Lab 1 That bit with the spikes in the slippery slope with lava just feels like whining since it's not that precise. -Re: Who's this game for? This a terrible argument. So what if that speedrunner is a Mathmatician? What solid ground does a random commenter in a TAS video stand on of who this game is made for? This is game made for people who still wants to play Megaman, simple as. --- This game is not great, and you kinda have to sidestep a lot of issues to appreciate some of its design. Its just that there's a lot of unfounded thoughts regarding it. I'm just here to point out the "order in the chaos." You're not thrown completely into the realm of pandemonium. Like, I'm more surprised you didn't go in detail how "random the nightmare effects are" tangent, when they're really not-but I know some will point it out that it is.
I was using a guide and I couldn't figure out which reploid added to the jump height. I'm sure your info it right, but so much of the game is obtuse and hidden, and at a certain point it just becomes frustrating.
X6 as a game has some pretty good ideas, Gate was an interesting villain, and I'll defend the armor set of the game (Shadow Armor IMO clears Gaia) But that being said, I will say the level design and enemy sprinkling hold this game back significantly, albeit not to the levels of X7.
I honestly say the level of design of X7 is held back by feeling generally unfinished, unlike X6, where it's held back by being tedious. And the enemy placement in X6 is arguably worse than X7, case in point, the Illumina mini boss gauntlet in Weapons Center, which is literally half of the entire level.
I do want to say something you can go back to those hidden levels after you beat those 8 bosses and high max will not be there. instead dynamo will be there and if you use his weakness weapon weakness against him he will drop a lot of nightmare souls and you can level up your hunter rank. also some of the other paths have items and light capsules in them so going back to hidden levels in stages in them can help a lot plus once you defeat the 8 bosses high max dose not show up any more and a pathetic dynamo fight shows up instead he is a complete push over with or without his weapon weakness.
Yeah, Mega Man X6 ruined Christmas 2001 (I think). I was so excited for the game, then it was like, the same 3 enemies in the entire game, and it turned into a scavenger hunt in order to advance, too many stupid gimmicks and also, High Max is invincible and accessible to face way too early, that's bull and just, so bad as a casual gamer. I made it to the wily area and the spike wall, just ugh, nope. I actually quit and never beat this until the Mega Man X collection came out and I forced myself to beat X6. I haven't since and that was like 15+ years ago. Mega Man Xtreme 2 is actually a pretty good game all things considered. I'd agree that the first stage of mmx6 is probably the best part of the game. At least Alia isn't forced and stopping you ever 2 seconds. The Zero games impliment the soul/cyber elf stuff MUCH better than x6. Great job with this stuff. This is one of those "You gotta watch the speed run" to truly understand why people love this game. It has tons of broken mechanics that make playing it easier. Zero has infinite I-frames if you do some glitch and more stuff.
I am a diehard mega man fan. Ive been a fan of the series since Mega Man 3. Ive mastered Mega Man 1. When it comes to MMX6. I also thought of it as a lost opportunity. If the game designer had more time the product might of been better. I do agree that Aila should of explained about the lost mavericks. However, i feel like this game is so bad that its good category. Because this game is so buggy there are moments where you can make x or Zero invincible. This game reminds me that even in games as spicy as mega man. There are some rotten peppers mixed up in here. Mega Man X6 is bad but its not the most terrible but i think the worst Mega Man game is X7. When you play it you will see what i mean.
There are definitely interviews with koji okohara if you want to get deep though. If you look up shmuplations, there is a X4 interview where he talks a lot and even features a picture of him. There is probably X5 and X6 interviews too, though they aren't translated. You should dig deeper if you want to understand the context bro.

I finished playing it yesterday, and it was a lot.
I used a bit of rookie mode and I pushed through it too And it was okay I only like the music in this game And i played x7 and it took me 5 hours to beat it and yeah it is the worst one It's so bland and boring and I never had fun when playing it
@@notsans9995 X6's maverick stages are just tedious. I think Blizzard Wolfang might be the only stage that's genuinely difficult, everything else is just dumb trial-and-error at most until you get to Gate.
The number of reploids you rescue has nothing to do with it. Certain reploids have parts that you need to finish this game, you just have to know which ones have the part
So alittle back ground on x5 it was made for the PlayStation on November 30 2000. Now here's the thing the US receives the game the following yr in 2001,the reason I bring this up is because most tape rental places like blockbuster had gone out of business by 2001 so you really couldn't rent x5 ,BUT places like game stop had opened meaning you could buy x5 and 6 ,both of these games are mad easy especially since you can set the difficulty level and both games had a ultimate armor x and black suit zero code . I grew up in the 2000s era ,back then noone complained about x 5 or 6 being bad because most kids had a PlayStation and there was tips and tricks magazine and the internet where you could find tips on which boss to defeat in which order ,where to find armor pieces for x and stuff like that . Now on to the meat of this review as the uploader stated people these days complain that x5 and 6 sucked because they're looking at it as if it's supposed to be a new game ,it's not though it's a game from 15 plus yrs ago ,I'll say it again ,the game it's self is almost 20 yrs old . It was the best game of its time which was the mid 2000s when Capcom could actually cash in on the mega man craze that was going on back then . You can't really take a 15 plus yrs old game and introduce it to people now and hope they like it because 9times out of ten they haven't played the games that came before them. I get people these days are like :oh the game sucks but then again these are the same people that didn't grow up with a PS1 or super Nintendo to play x1-6 .so basically what I'm tryna say is if you grew up with mega man from the nes all the way to the PS1 era yeah your going to like the x series but if you didn't grow up during that era ,the art style and story isn't gonna catch your attention because it's not your cup of tea. I've seen people rag on the game then when you ask them who was thier hardest boss they can't even pronounce rainy turtletoids name ,or if you ask them who magma dragoon is they don't know. Edit:just to be clear imma say this again loudly, the x games were popular back in the mid 90s to early 2000s,most people that play these games today aren't going to have the same nostalgia that people back then had plain and simple. The reason I say this is because people in the comments wanna nit pick parts of my discussion instead of reading the whole point which I'm sure most people are glancing over .
I'll agree that i the early 2000s and late 90s gamers had a tougher stomach for bad games, and were much more willing to get into stuff like tips and tricks to figure it out. I don't think blockbuster was going out of business in 2001, I think they were nearing their peak.
“Rental places like blockbuster had gone out of business by 2001” Are you out of your mind? In 2001 video rental stores were at their peak. They were just starting to switch from VHS tapes to DVDs.
@@Xalusc the game is almost twenty yrs old or more ,like I said you can't take a game from early 2000s and introduce it to players 15 yrs later and expect to get the same results,it's like taking an 80s movie like RoboCop and hoping the audience likes it . mega man x1-8 were good at the time but teens these days don't have the same mindset like teens in the mid 80s to 90s take battle circuit,it was a homage to MegaMan that not most people bought because they weren't used to its mega man like playstyle
@@ag2731I believe Capcom stated that Zero’s ending takes place at an disclosed time in the future. They even had a recent official comic showing X, Zero, and Axl fighting Omega in the Elf Wars. It was a single splash page. Even the Japanese only Drama Audio CD which are canon even have the Jakob Tower from X8 being mentioned. Honestly, very annoying to find out these information OUTSIDE of the games.
I dropped X6 after trying out every level. They were just a slog to go through because they weren't fun and challenging. They were just plain annoying. Seriously the only redeemable thing about X6 is the amazing OST. If ONLY the game played as good as it sounded.
It's a game only meant to be played with Zero or Ultimate Armor X. The Falcon armor is way too underpowered and you don't get the Blade and Shadow Armors until halfway through
No part of this game is randomly generated. The rooms in Scaravich's level were all designed by a human, it just appears a lot of the level design was marathoned the night before the game printed. As another note, I believe none of the reploids with parts can become infected and missable, so that's just an unfounded fear everyone immediately has.

Dude, X6 is pure RNG in combination with cheap level design, terrible enemy placements, bullet sponge viruses, a terrible mechanic that I'm grateful a fan patch can allow you to turn off, and absolutely atrocious bosses.
I played this game this year because I never got the chance to play it. That smile on my face slowly withered as I went through the levels. Bad level designs, enemies along with lackluster boss weapons killed it for me. I beat gate and just quit the game.
Awesome detailed info, MegaFan! I'm as much a defender of X6, as I am of X3; both shouldve been the best in their respective trilogies, but they were both rushed games with generally bad level design and weird choices and I think its a damn shame. I remember first seeing images of X6 in a game magazine I picked up and I thought to myself "Huh, wow, X5 just came out, X6 already!?". Little did I know. Still, I can see the good, with the bad, the vision, and the execution. X6 to me is the most repayable of the PSX games, but I'm not blind to its flaws and I get very frustrated with it. Its good to see that X6 has a fan made cleaned-up version, I appreciate projects like this. But then I'm weird like that, I think X8 kinda sucks now (back in the day, I 100%ed it, every unlock, Hard Mode, etc), but I tried the MMX8 demake...and I hated it, but thats just because I firmly believe that bad 3D stages just dont translate well to 2D, no fault to the developer themselves
X6 has a lot of technical design flaws but i'd be lying if I said I didn't play the hell outa this game when it came out in middle school. X4 is still the gold standard but I still appreciate this game for what it was. Also side note I think you're pronouncing Alia's name wrong. I always thought it was pronounced like Alias and not like the r&b artist.

Honestly, it's probably more fun to watch youtube videos about x6 than actually trying to beat it.
Yeah, I feel the same. I want to love this game, but there's just too much junk.
Wow! Rented a ps2 to play x6. That's funny! Yeah, the music is rad. I'm planning on playing the zero series after the x series. I'm excited!
A couple of things:
-The Reploid that gives you the additional jump height is in a spot devoid of Nightmare Viruses.
It makes the world a bit richer
Other bits:
-Re: Gate's Lab 1
That bit with the spikes in the slippery slope with lava just feels like whining since it's not that precise.
-Re: Who's this game for?
This a terrible argument. So what if that speedrunner is a Mathmatician? What solid ground does a random commenter in a TAS video stand on of who this game is made for?
This is game made for people who still wants to play Megaman, simple as.
---
This game is not great, and you kinda have to sidestep a lot of issues to appreciate some of its design.
That how every game does Randomly generated levels a pool of random rooms with random elements what he said is completly true. Good points though
I was using a guide and I couldn't figure out which reploid added to the jump height. I'm sure your info it right, but so much of the game is obtuse and hidden, and at a certain point it just becomes frustrating.
I just like the soundtrack i bought this when it came out and it should had ended with X5.😮😮😮😮
The sound track is great! I wish this game had a little more time in the oven, and maybe a different story that allowed x5 to be more conclusive.
Remove the "????" and you have the most title of all time.
I'm hoping the "????" gets catches peoples interest.
X6 as a game has some pretty good ideas, Gate was an interesting villain, and I'll defend the armor set of the game (Shadow Armor IMO clears Gaia)
But that being said, I will say the level design and enemy sprinkling hold this game back significantly, albeit not to the levels of X7.
Yeah, there are some interesting ideas in this game. I also like Gate in concept. There's potential for a cool story with him.
I’ve got ogre man on the wishlist!
Thanks!
🔥🔥🔥IM AQUA MAN, BUT YOU CAN CALL ME HANDSOME GUY!!🗣🗣🗣
The red doughnuts are the mini bosses of all time.
Yeah,they're something else.
Oh, I knew Dynamo was in the game, but I didn't know where to find him. Thanks for the info!
@@MeguhFan you’re welcome you might want to review megaman x6 again since you have new information ok.
Rainy Turtloid's design goes so hard. Also that Hymax hardlock forcing the player's game-over is outrageous
Yes to both. This game if full of ups and downs.
This game was raw asf idk what he talking about
Yeah, Mega Man X6 ruined Christmas 2001 (I think).
Thanks for the tip. I'll check out shmuplations.
I just started playing this game around 4 days ago and its really hard
Metal shark player's level is just annoying
And blaze heatnix' level is so damn annoying too
And im stuck on it
I should just quit this game and move onto x7
Well, I pushed through x6 and I'm glad I did, though I did use a bit of rookie hunter mode. X7 Spoiler alert: ...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................X7 is WAY worse than X6. I finished playing it yesterday, and it was a lot.
I used a bit of rookie mode and I pushed through it too
And it was okay I only like the music in this game
And i played x7 and it took me 5 hours to beat it and yeah it is the worst one
It's so bland and boring and I never had fun when playing it
@@TopPop40I'd rather feel boredom playing a bad game than frustration playing a bad game.
Better than X5 and X7, change my mind.
X4 was better than X5 & X6. Even though X5 & X6 expanded upon certain gameplay mechanics.
What's crazy is I hate X4 for being really easy, and then I hate X6 for being too difficult lol
Yeah, I like x4 the best, but the other two have their good qualities.
Oh, thanks for clarifying that.
@@MeguhFan you’re welcome ;)
@@MeguhFan Early 2k was *when* they peaked. They got ran out of business by Netflix because they didn't adapt with the times.
“Rental places like blockbuster had gone out of business by 2001”
Are you out of your mind? In 2001 video rental stores were at their peak. They were just starting to switch from VHS tapes to DVDs.
@@Xalusc the game is almost twenty yrs old or more ,like I said you can't take a game from early 2000s and introduce it to players 15 yrs later and expect to get the same results,it's like taking an 80s movie like RoboCop and hoping the audience likes it . mega man x1-8 were good at the time but teens these days don't have the same mindset like teens in the mid 80s to 90s take battle circuit,it was a homage to MegaMan that not most people bought because they weren't used to its mega man like playstyle
on the endings, the first one leads to X7 while the second one (Zero in the pod) leads to the first MMZ game
good point, i guess
Ok, that's interesting. Does x7's ending lead to the zero series?
@@MeguhFan i won't spoil it so, beat the game as zero and you'll see hints of that
@@ag2731I believe Capcom stated that Zero’s ending takes place at an disclosed time in the future.
They even had a recent official comic showing X, Zero, and Axl fighting Omega in the Elf Wars. It was a single splash page.
Even the Japanese only Drama Audio CD which are canon even have the Jakob Tower from X8 being mentioned.
Honestly, very annoying to find out these information OUTSIDE of the games.
the game is enjoyable so long as you learn to embrace the jank.
It's just too much jank for most people to handle.
Or... just get the Tweaks patcher and mitigate most of the jank down to your liking.
I dropped X6 after trying out every level. They were just a slog to go through because they weren't fun and challenging. They were just plain annoying.
Seriously the only redeemable thing about X6 is the amazing OST. If ONLY the game played as good as it sounded.
I get that. Especially if you've played some of the top tier x games (x1, x2, x4), this game feels like a slog. The music is super rad!
Well... MMX6 is definitely one of the most games of all time, that's for sure.
It's a game only meant to be played with Zero or Ultimate Armor X. The Falcon armor is way too underpowered and you don't get the Blade and Shadow Armors until halfway through
Yeah, I wonder how much more fun the game could've been if I had replayed it with the ultimate armor.
@@MeguhFan It's much better, although I'd advise against using the Nova Strike on the 8 Mavericks as it takes away a lot of the fun of beating them.
@@Ah2o5b no part of the game is randomly generated. Every room is 100% static. When you go to the room, it is identical every time
@@Ah2o5b the nightmare system isn't random though. It's fixed based off the last stage you visited.
There's 2 kinds of Nightmare Effects.
A primary effect and secondary effect, primary effects are permanent and are not marked, these are triggered by finishing certain stages but secondary effects are marked in red, these are triggered by visiting them.
The secondary effects take precedence over primary effects, no two effects can occur at the same time.

Exiting the Central Museum causes crates of varying colors to spawn in Recycle Lab and Laser Institute.
Exiting the Weapons Center causes darkness in certain sections in Inami Temple and Amazon Area.

MMX7 is INFINITELY worst!
and 6 is also better than 8 tbh
Dude, X6 is pure RNG in combination with cheap level design, terrible enemy placements, bullet sponge viruses, a terrible mechanic that I'm grateful a fan patch can allow you to turn off, and absolutely atrocious bosses.
description says this is mega man x5
I played this game this year because I never got the chance to play it. That smile on my face slowly withered as I went through the levels. Bad level designs, enemies along with lackluster boss weapons killed it for me. I beat gate and just quit the game.
Yeah, the smile faded from my face as I played through it too.
Yeah dude this game sucks for alot of reasons don't try to %100 the game unless you wanna throw your controller across the room
Who ever is playing in da background is hard to watch😬 geez cringe
I still think X7 is worser due to the 3D.
I'm playing x7 right now, and the 3d gameplay is a lot, and the camera has a mind of it's own.
I didn't finish your video but, I don't agree with your opinion. You got a dislike!
