  • There are a lot of "how to" transfer videos, but this one is a very honest take on how they look sometimes - ugly, tough and frustrating, shown with a touch of humour during a recent camping trip.

Thanks for that “honest” video, loved it. I’m 1 year 9 months into my injury and just learning to transfer from the floor and too often compare myself to the videos I watch others do (regardless of how long they’ve been injured). My therapists tell me not to do that but sometimes it’s so hard for me not to do with all the skills I’m learning. So thanks, love all the videos - keep it up!!

Thanks for the kind compliments 😊 it’s very hard when you compare yourself with people that are “doing better” than you, but most people don’t look the other way on the bell curve. You’re very likely way ahead of many others too!
“The race is long, and in the end it’s only with yourself”

What a beautiful spot, that view is amazing. Beautiful part of the world you call home. Need more of ugly, tough and frustrating videos. Not everything is movie magic with sunshine and lollipop’s on perfect “how to” videos. Not how real life works or things plan out sometimes. Don’t get me wrong. I wish everything was sunshine and lollipops but thats not the reality of being disable sadly. Great video as always Freddo. 🌲

That was a gorgeous spot. I’ll bet the sunrise and sunset were absolutely stunning.

It must be really frustrating when it takes several attempts and one is getting tired, but you have to persevere as there is no other choice. But the sense of achievement once you have reached your goal is even better. I always like seeing you wear a Temporary shirt. The message behind it really helped me through times.

I absolutely loved this content as well as your beautiful, combined sense of humor!
As a partially paralyzed amputee, I've made similar videos of my transfers while out camping, kayaking, wheelchair hiking, and engaging in other crazy, mostly solo, outdoor adventures, but this... this was absolutely priceless!
I just love the laughter and honesty between you two, as it reminds me of my ever-patient wife after being married now for 34 years.
    Best wishes to you both,

My method is quite similar, with one exception. I am able to coax myself into a squatting position by walking my hands up behind me. I am then balancing with my hands in front of me and my arms stabilizing my legs, which I often have lashed together with a band or belt or whatever’s handy. From my wobbly squatting position I am a bit higher off the ground, allowing for an easier hop into the chair.
It is hard to describe in text, and I’m sure my condition is different, but that’s my method. Cheers, and thanks for putting yourself out there like you do!

Beauty! I typically use one arm to ground to transfer down and roll over on my knees and use two arm to push up onto the chair. Hey..@4:36... happens to the best of us...just gotta laugh.

Just like the swimming, you can do it!
      Just go for one night.
The first time is the hardest and scariest but ultimately the one that gets you over the initial hesitation 😊
I may have made it look simple, but I didn’t want to go the first time! Cris had to heavily encourage me, and I’m very happy she did ❤️
Try to camp somewhere close to the car.
If you do, let me know! ❤️✌️

Awesome..it certainly demonstrates how important upper arm strength is because if you didn't have the upper arm strength you have theres no way you could do that floor to chair especially on that uneven ground ! Thanks for the realistic side of it too ....good thing we dont have smell o vision😂😂😂

    • @FreddotheWheelchairGuy
      @FreddotheWheelchairGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha 😂 yes I did have a trumpy bum 💩 😂
It is really important for me to have upper body strength to compensate for my lower body. It’s also a great excuse to “skip leg day” 😂

When you camp, how do you do for the poop situation?
Btw thank you for being honest with this kind of situations, I struggle with floor to wheelchair transfer a lot.
    Keep it up!

Congrats on another great video Freddo! You have a new girlfriend - I am happy for you! When you move your hand down to the ground, maybe slide your hand down your pant leg rather than just reaching out in one quick motion. Question: I will some day get around to asking your “collaborator” but for now I’ll ask you: why do you use a fist on the ground rather than your open palm of your hand?

    • @FreddotheWheelchairGuy

Camping 🏕 , one of the greatest pleasures in life (imo). There's nothing like taking it back to basics, no distractions, just spending time with loved ones in nature. We started out with decathlon gear too! We've upgraded most of our stuff now (in order to travel ultra light), but we won't part with those little fold up mats. They are so useful!
I can't offer any transfer tips but as a former chef, you might be interested in cook gear. Our favourite piece of camping kit is our Trangia alcohol stove. If you are planning on camping some more you might want to check it out. It's the nuts 👌 I get an audience when I'm cooking because everyone wants to check it out 😂

I’ll have to check it out, thanks for the tip 😊
At the moment, we’re just doing one nighters, and maybe only one more before winter as it’s getting cold already here 😬
