Thanks for that. Before my son was disabled 4years ago due to stress we use to camp and now we stay in cottages. I'd love to camp again and i was wondering how other wheelchair users get on. It shows it can work.
Hope this motivates you guys to try camping again! If the weather is good it's very easy as long as your son can get between the floor and his wheelchair but we wouldn't recommend it as much in bad weather as the mud can make things pretty difficult
I really enjoyed this, my sister recommended your channel. I am also a para of 35 years. I used to go camping in a tent yet could not manage the floor transfers to we got one of those air beds that have the foldout base made from lightweight aluminium. Hope you had fun 🙏🏻🥰
great video. im a American with disabilities and advocate for handicap accessible pads at all state and federal camp grounds. we have the americans with disabilities act to help get access. good luck to you.
Thanks for the comment. That would be nice for alot of people! We don't have any rules like that here, but I don't mind bumping over the grass too much (unless it's very muddy!). Best wishes to you 😃
I'm looking at getting a pop-up tent for myself to go camping in. I'd wondered about if my wheelchair will fit as I can't handle anything bigger than a 2 person by myself. Worst case i would have to leave it outside (except cushion!).
I am looking at tents. I was looking at bigger so as to wheel into the tent. I was thinking of the camping cot for air mattress. Transfer from the chair to the bed and back. How ever my t6 injury is only a year old so maybe it will get easier over time. Loved the video and it gave some ideas.
If I was buying one now I would buy a bigger one that I could roll into. We had this one from before my accident, and it's nice that we can still use it. I'm a t4 complete injury and this camping trip was within a year of my injury so you should probably have a similar experience to me. Hope you get camping soon
@@adaptivetravel Maybe get a slightly bigger tent like Vango Omega 350 or Omega XD 300. You will have more room for your wheelchair and you can transfer inside of the tent.
Will keep those in mind for when we're in a position to get a new tent. For now we can't really justify getting a new one but we think it would be nicer to be able to transfer inside the tent
We still want to get a motorhome but it will take us a while to decide on the design and then do the van conversion. Also there are different uses - if we go abroad on a aeroplane we can take a tent but can't take a campervan
It is very good! a disabled person must be able to practice camping. I do it.But I have a bigger tent that can transfer to the tent and sit in the wheelchair in the tent
Yeah there's definitely no reason why disabled people can't camp. If we were getting a new tent I think we would get a bigger one too but this one works better than we expected it to
Kinda surprised we haven't felt claustrophobic actually Yeah we always make sure to choose somewhere with accessible toilets and showers but not all campsite do. In this one there was only one accessible toilet and shower and it was shared as a family bathroom which was slightly annoying as we had to wait ages for it to be free every morning - it wasn't too bad for us but we know some disabled people who might need access to facilities fairly urgently!

Great vid, I was looking for camping tips and this was great. How are you guys? Long time no see x

Cool setup. I’m looking at hammock setups. I can stand just can’t get u be off the floor yet.
Wow amazing seeing the horses so close 😀
That is so cool, do everything you can possibly do to keep adding enjoyable memories to life😍
That's the aim, we'll do our best 👍
I appreciate that bit at 6:25. Its harder than it looks folks!

Haha like that the horses have learned to open zips, good video! Really cool that camping is possible, Glastonbury next year?!
Haha, they are definitely smarter than we give them credit for! Unfortunately Glastonbury next year is sold out, how about 2022?

Great stuff! I used to camp (before and after the injury). Great to see some new ideas!
Thanks! It was a bit of an experiment but worked out quite well for us. Is there anything you'd do differently that you think might be easier/better?

You do not want to buy a mobile home anymore?

I like the back of the wheelchair...it looks comfortable.
It's one of those things that looks comfortable but it's actually really not, we've ordered a new rigid on that should be better
@@adaptivetravel ok, good to know...thanks. Actually it can be used on your next chair as well.
Looks too claustrophobic for me. lol
Do they have accessible loos and showers?
