I really appreciate Videos that help new players or just give useful advice on how to handle certain situations! I have no idea about the content of this video at all but I hope that the creator really put in effort and made it informative! This is definitely a good video if the intent is really genuine! Hope you made good points and not just trying to clickbait people into watching this!
Great video, I'm also a fan of online tournaments for the reasons you mentioned. Something I do during online play is to ask how many cards my opponent has at the start of my turn to make it easier to tell if they've somehow gotten an extra card or counter for more than they should have. I also think TO's need to have more specific requirements for webcam setups so that you can see more of the surrounding playspace to deter cheating.
100% agree, but even the cards in hand strategies have some holes like players switching cards in their hand for others. Hopefully we as a community along with the TOs can come up with something quick while Bandai hopefully can come up with a system to take action.
I’ll be playing in the first online regional in July. Not looking forward to worrying about everything my opponent is doing while also thinking about my own plays…
It’s not as hard as you think. It’s just when you’re thinking about your plays make sure your eyes are still on your computer screen. And remember most players don’t cheat!
My hands go off screen alot in the weekly ppg webcam tourneys because I’m pretty much constantly sipping coffee so I make sure to place my cards on the mat in clear view and let them know how many I have in hand on top of a dice to mark it that way there’s never any question
I think locals is okay, and it’s all about what your opponent is comfortable with. But if my opponent wanted me to always have my hands in frame that’s fine too. It’s all about communication and being transparent. I like that you go the extra mile!
I’m happy that my clip made it into your video but still super sad I didn’t look back at it until after the tournament. He had did that to me in round 4
Yeah it’s the worst having to look back at it and not being able to do anything about it. That’s why I wanted to get the word out for newer players to make sure to do these calls during the tourney. Sorry that happened to you.
Another good tip would be to constantly ask your opponent how many cards they have throughout the turn and make them count each card and spread them out individually.
Thanks for the video. I was always afraid to enter an online tournament because I haven't been playing long. If I suspected that the opponent was cheating and then contacted the Jugde and he said everything is fine, I would have a bad feeling because I would have stopped the round for nothing.
It’s not for nothing! I think we as a community need to shift away from thinking of a judge call as an accusation. As long as everyone is respectful about it an honest judge call that’s wrong is completely okay.
use a super wide angle lens webcam it makes it so even if you move your arms around they don't ever go off camera and provides a bigger field of vision for your opponent, this is great for if you ever drop something.
Yeah I was able to use my camera arm that I use for making videos and the angle was great. My hands could be off the table and you could still see them. But everyone’s setup is different I think the most important part is that both players are trying to be as transparent as possible.
cards in hand should be visible at all times. if you have to reach for something fan your hand face down on your mat. Full blast like you said for cheaters. edit: also bright sleeves vs mat/clothes to make it easier to see the cards. some webcams are still so crap that black sleeves on black shirt is invisible
I play mainly MTG and I like to check out new TCGs as well but this is the first time I've seen so much cheating, especially from a new TCG like One Piece. Why do you guys think?
It’s mainly because the tournaments are online and you can record the games so a lot of these cheaters get caught. In other TCGs the fact that their tournaments are online means that even if someone cheats irl, you might not have the evidence to catch them or the ability to look back at the game to confirm.
I’m pretty you can as long as they don’t make any comments during the game as that might be considered coaching. But if they were watching and after the game they told you hey get a judge and you have a recording that should be fine because it’s similar to a twitch stream. If you were planning on it I would still record.
Regarding your point of recording without consent for cheating purposes and not streaming/uploading online, what if you ask your opp's consent to record the match just for cheating evidence and they say no? Do you record anyway without their consent?
I hear that, but it’s just something we have to do in the online tournaments. The way I think about it is we get the convenience of being able to play at home, so there is the trade off of having to pay more attention to your opponent.
@@emperorpenguinpirates-onepiece I also miss not being able to see my opponent's face so I can try and read their reactions to things. Like poker, sometimes you can tell when they don't have it, you know.
Hopefully he will get a ban from Bandai soon, or Carta Magica will do something. But the best we can do is spread the word so people know who he is when they get paired against him.
Sad, but there are cheaters in all games. I want to see this game grow, but I will always be against Online tournaments in a card game.. in ANY game for that matter. Lan or nothing for computer/video games and in person or nothing for board/card/table top games. Just my thoughts, permanent bans on confirmed cheaters, like the guy who had no cards in hand then grabbed a card from off screen and had enough to block with lol, absolutely blatant.
I definitely disagree about the in person events only. It’s just too much of an overall positive for the game to have these online tournaments, but I also think this problem needs to be addressed before we can consider them viable (especially regionals because of the Nat invites) but yeah I agree there should be huge punishment once caught.
@@emperorpenguinpirates-onepieceLol, disagree all you want doesn't make you any more correct than me. I specifically said that I want to see the game grow and that I personally am against online formats. I can argue that online tournaments bring just as many negatives to the game as it does positives. I don't even have a setup at my house where I can do an online tournament, so I'm completely excluded from the possibility. You wouldn't believe how many cheat and get away with it in these online tournaments, you are talking about it right now because it's a pretty hot topic. You even said yourself that they aren't "slick" with it. That's because the ones who are slick don't get caught. Then what ends up happening is you get paranoid and ban someone for grabbing a drink off screen who wasn't even cheating.
I’m sure we will get official bans and rulings from Bandai eventually and hopefully soon. Or at the very least from the big TOs so they can’t play in a big tournament again.
@@emperorpenguinpirates-onepiece we can just hope... BTW thanks for the great content helping me a lot especially the beat the meta or meta guides I love these kind of vids
In case anyone is wondering if someone is banned, I think the list of banned players is accessible publicly on the official website

Yup! It could still be tricky since a lot of cheaters are actually switching out their cards for things like counters, but this is still very helpful!

Yeah I think I saw someone with a black mat black sleeve set up and that should definitely be unacceptable lol

Can I have someone at home watching to make sure my opponent doesn’t cheat when I’m searching?

Yes, continue to flame the cheaters. Great video :)
Life time ban from competitive would definitely be the way to go!!
I 100% agree. The demand for these tournaments is so high too, lifetime banning these cheaters is literally only a positive for the game.
Regarding your point of recording without consent for cheating purposes and not streaming/uploading online, what if you ask your opp's consent to record the match just for cheating evidence and they say no? Do you record anyway without their consent?
You can still record since you don’t need any consent. And you should definitely be looking out for cheating as it’s a huge red flag.
you don't need consent but you should say you'll record, if they then say "no" etc. call a judge.
that was posted on a tourney discord.
It's hard to watch the screen and look at my board and hand at the same time.

How do you record your matches tho?
Easiest way is to use something like OBS Studio to record your screen
For anyone playing in the one this weekend, Steven Deck is registered for the tournament.
Hopefully he will get a ban from Bandai soon, or Carta Magica will do something. But the best we can do is spread the word so people know who he is when they get paired against him.

this makes me nervous for my firs ONline :(
Don’t be! Just make sure you’re being attentive to what your opponent is doing especially on your turn while you’re playing it out and have fun!
I don't care, If someone cheats life time ban Bandai is ridiculous in this matter
