i had this game YEARS ago my dads mate upgraded his pc and gave us his old computer, which at the time was still a new model, its just he was something of an enthusiast the pc was loaded full of DOS games, street fighter, commander keen, jazz jackrabbit, lemmings, riptide etc and among the games was this! i didnt play it at first because the title screen seemed scary, but i eventually did i class myself as a hardcore pc gamer today, but looking back at this, i was hardcore by age 6!
I bought this game yesterday, I thought it was a brand new stuff...! Haha! I have the first' level music in my head since about 18 years now... and now I come here to work with it in my ears !
I remember I only had the demo but I kept on playing it b/c it was all I had. I rocked the 6 axis Gravis Gamepad with the 4 colored buttons. The gray screw in joystick for the analog broke too, so i replaced it with a screw, I remember as a little kid I had that screw plus sign indented into my thumb after I played. Great memories.
BEST GAME EVER! Seeing this game again almost brought tears to my eyes... And about playing with the mouse? EFF NO! The keyboard was the BEST, this is the one game i claim to have truly mastered, i could beat the first level without taking any damage, and killed almost every single enemy, i had everything memorized, the music rocked... i LOVE this game so much
It's available at gog.com for 6$ :) you can add it to your wishlist and the site will tell you when it's on discount (I saw it for something like 1.5$ a month ago or so)
Havent played this game in about 12 years.... Found it on a CD today and started playing it... No modern flying game comes close to being as awesome as Raptor is!
Childhood!! Raptor, Heretic, Hecen , Doom, Duke Nukem, theme PARK, Supa plex , prince Of Persia 1 and 2, Mk 1 2 3, Aladdin, Warcraft 1 2... MARVELOUS, MSDOS WAS SIMPLY MARVELOUS!
one of the good ol' stuff. reminds me about my childhood. i was playing this in win95 and old-brown desktop PC without any sound card. :') bring back memories
dam dude, when I had this set up on my computer the sound was so much better. I had the top sound card that could be used on raptor. I have beaten the game for that over and over. such a good game. This and commander keen 1,2,3,4,5,6 and keen dreams.
Man I loved this game. (Unnecessary boasting warning) It was kinda hard to watch you play, I was such a beast. On rookie, I could play the first level without taking a hit! Bring on the cows, now.
i remember we had like shareware versions of this, xargon, commander keen, duke nukem, word rescue n this game amy the dog that my wee sister loved on our 1st pc years ago when we were kids. they were so good.
So many memories... I was playing this game so much with my father :D I have no idea how did we manage to buy the powerups without being able to speak English... :D Also, our keyboard often stopped responding, and we had no sound card :D Still, an awesome game...
Back in 2006, I was discovered to Raptor: Call of the Shadows bright their day, When I downloaded on windows version and brought DOSBOX earlier day, I first played for first times being creating indie computer games was mainly top-down shooter, The game aspect that air and ground attack from incoming attack, With buying upgrading weapons at the shop, Since where i favorite this game and Internet cultures took on the social media platforms, This year I am here with childhood masterpiece is only known for contribution members with Mountain King Studios, Since when i joining to contribution studios wayback goes then, Scott Host is going to working on remastered version of Raptor: Call of the Shadows Remixed for first times ported as consoles and mobile.
so THIS is what i remember playing when i was like 5!!! i kept thinking it was stellar 7 for some reason but I finally found it!!! i played this with a really old joystick
I remember playing this with my sister, we named the enemy ship with different names to recognise them better like: the dryers, the Rhinoceros, the scrabs, and so on. Ahhh Good Old Times :D
What are you talking about? Raptor has perfect graphics. The highest possible quality of 16-bit visuals is exactly as impressive as modern pixel shader 3d, and in extreme cases such as Raptor, even more impressive. As long as a style is consistent and detailed, the lack of "parallax mapping" or "euphoria physics" or "polygon tesselation" does not make the game look any less good. ;)
Waaaaaaa! Raptor! I love this game! It's a classic, I know It's still instaled in my old PC... x_x' it was a great game, I've finished it in "elite" level... what a memories dude, hahahah "Exit to DOS" XD I remember it! thanx for post it! Raptor 5/5 stars and to my favs!
holy shit it's Scott Host! dude any news on Raptor 2? I have a standing record on Raptor that I don't know if anyone's ever broken. certainly nothing like that on the internet
You can cheese the first level. Only start with 75 shields....get the 25 shields in the level, then the missiles. Abort mission. Sell off missiles for $31k and 25 shields for $5k. $36k profit. Rinse repeat. :D Eventually, you can get the micro missiles making the rest of the campaign super easy. ;)
yeah no kiddin, the days of msdos gaming were/are a magic era lol ... I've never played a bad msdos game every 1 of them are freakin awesome and tubulubidably memorable, this game by far, pharaoh's tomb, arctic adventure, god of thunder man the list goes ever on

I think this game provided the inspiration for the game "Demonstar" which was on an "Egames" package of games
I remember playing this with my sister, we named the enemy ship with different names to recognise them better like: the dryers, the Rhinoceros, the scrabs, and so on. Ahhh Good Old Times :D
