“It’s a pencil” with beautiful packaging and smells nice lol. I’ve never heard of these and probably won’t buy them but this was fun to watch nonetheless!
They still are a work of art in itself 😊 I worked with a scientist who’s specialty was wood identification. This is a one of a kind treasure to enjoy and I can bet these pencils don’t lose their smell. My favorite part was the case of birds eye maple and if you ever seen a piece of furniture made from it is like the shiny way you showed us the pencil case❤️❤️ thanks for your dedication to get these pencils.
Honestly I think even if an art supply is expensive, I feel like the overall design and vibe of them can inspire some sort of confidence and determination in your work, whether it's "these are expensive and I don't want to waste them so I'll take as much time as I need on this piece using these expensive materials" or "the aesthetic of these are one-of-a-kind and working with them is a privilege," etc. Or even role playing some extravagant fine artist using expensive supplies that eases anxiety through the process.
It's like how Stradivariuses aren't genuinely the best things ever in terms of material and construction these days, but the history alone makes them stand far above the rest giving players more of a mental boost than if they just used modern top of the line violins.

Sounds to me like none of the sellers -- regardless of what they said -- actually had the pencils in stock. Sounds to me like they were all waiting to get an order, then ordering from whatever the higher-up source was, and were all finding out that it was out of stock or way backordered or whatever. I suppose it makes sense that a smaller seller wouldn't tie up whatever the wholesale price is on a set of $150 pencils. Japan has some of the finest art supplies besides Europe. They did make back in the 80 some very nice school supplies which were sold in Europe in the gift shops. It was not only cute but also functional. Yes what a contrast. Japan with high end school and art supplies and then there is China with all the low quality plastic junk runining the earth with one-way unrefillable and non recicable supplies.

This is the type thing you buy if you're a collector/ admirer of the artist because they aren't pencils for function, they're art. You would do exactly what you have done, maybe not even sharpening them (which I think would be disappointing but understanding). I think it's super cute you get so excited! I'm so jealous, I would love to be able to smell those different types of wood. I miss my woodworking class so much. If I had the opportunity to be in there again I would make more giant sculptures that were like 300 lbs lol
I can empathize with the hs tater tot craving. I’ve been out of high school for years and I still get cravings for the dodgy square cheese pizza and salad with ranch, and the meatball sub.
The hamburger at my school were oddly good for being these slightly unnerving shades of brownish grey sometimes. There's something about some of the food you could get in school that was both delicious and unnerving at the same time. I guess I hold the few good food I could get at school very close as more often than not I wouldn't eat lunch at school since I was ( and still kind of am ) a picky eater.
Oh. You reminded me of my highschool that had the best cheese rolls. They looked like cinnamon rolls but instead of cinnamon sugar they had the best savoury cheddar. I haven't found anything like them, ever. Now I want cheese rolls. XD

Wow! I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this video as much as I did. I work a Lot with Prismacolor pencils and I forget how much they smell until someone who never uses them talks about it. The most amazing pencils I found were in a special stationery store in Richmond Virginia. They were the pencils that were used by the animation artists who worked at Disney. Palomino Blackwing. I got a couple of them and they were $5 each.

As a person with a really strong sense of smell, I REALLY want to smell those pencils! I just wonder how many more undertones I could pick up, plus I just love the smell of wood... ...uh I mean... don't sniff pencils kids!
These are probably an industrial designer kind of pencil, I love using HB for sketching and rough shading, nothing too artsy but definitely not a dollar tree pencil task, and those pencils look like a dream to work with and carry around, I need them, I need to sketch with them😭💖
My grandpa on my dad's side was a master carpenter and my favorite smell in the world is fresh cut wood every time I went to his house he always smelled like fresh oak he literally made me shapes out of solid oak and other woods. Watching you enjoy the smells from the pencils and your face brought up that memory
let's just appreciate how beautiful rae is🦋❤️..I love your crafts and you're one of my inspiration why should I need to work hard to improve my drawing skill.
I love this so much! I have always been fascinated with Japan as a Country and as a society. The creativity, practicality and ingenuity of Japanese products are unrivaled, imo. When it comes to Japanese products - across the board - the packaging and the products themselves always amaze me because of those little details that make things so much better. Even ice cream from vending machines in Japan have amazing features as part of the packaging. I can go on and on about that, lol. But yeah, the little divot (or whatever) in the piece of wood to help get the pencils out is the perfect example of Japanese ingenuity. Edit: Also, I've been waiting for a new video so YAY!!!
Yess finally early Hii Rae I am a viewer from India and I love your art,it's so amazing it has just been a couple of months watching you but I learned a lot thanks a lot Keep going❣
When I worked in a U.K. art school (no names) I never had to buy a pencil in 20 years... at the end of each year literally hundreds of pencils were just abandoned and swept up ... used to keep a box full for general use in the studio. It’s my theory that all the missing socks in the world turn into abandoned pencils...
i literally bought these, drew one thing with them that was sketchy and nature based, and then put them in a shadow box and they now sit beautifully on a shelf under a light in my room. they're my biggest bragging right 💀
This is SO satisfying to just watch I can't even imagine how it must be to touch all those different kinds of woods and the fragrances they have when being sharpened! How cool!!
those pencils have a really great story behind them but I'm having a really hard time wrapping my head around spending that much money on pencils 🤷 idk maybe it's just me but times are hard these days and I can think of a bunch of other things to spend all that money on. To each his own. She is excited for the pencils. They are almost art themselves. She is probably proud of getting pencils she has dreamed about. The pinnacle of her desires 😁. Everyone has a passion, and an aspiration to get/have the best, specific crochet needles, paints, wools.. this is their love, their life. Even if you are a connoisseur of beer, experiencing the best makes you feel you can’t get any happier than where you are at right now. Trust me 😁🥰😍
If you end up loving the whole experience, Caran d'Ache puts out special sets of pencils every year or so, each made from a different kind of wood. The sets are also perfumed by a perfume house in France, with each set having its own unique fragrance. Best part is that they're not $15+ a pencil -- the sets of six are about $40-ish, which is still super expensive, but you don't get the polished wood box to go with them, so...there's that. I've had one of the sets (5? 6 maybe?) for a couple years and the scent's still there, even. (Plus, it's Caran d'Ache, and they know how to make a good lead.) edited to add: On a whim, I just checked Amazon, and the Les Maisons sets are there -- the most recent three, at least -- and range between 27 and 32 USD. They did go to just four pencils per container, though. And one of the new ones has a couple of the same woods as this set. :)
What a unique video and so informative. Can say it's the first time I've been impressed with pencils. Thank you for sharing. And you're a great artist.
i have been So invested in this video, these pencils, the furniture maker, and the different woods-- and also entranced by how cool YOU think these pencils are. new sub!
This video got me sprinting like no one, I got them as gift like months ago, and just were like :” oh… thanks, they look very… interesting ” and put them in my drawer and never even looked at them again till now, ops I guess
I can easily see why this would be a waste of money for some people but the thought of using pencils with a beautiful history and incredible design is to die for. The fact that they each are different types of wood with different weights is deeply desirable for me. Add to that they apply with a matte look rather than the shiny gunmetal of other pencils is just, yes.
Definetly a super novelty item more in line for art decoration. I would personally not buy them because I don't think the price ratio to the output is not given. I think the Blackwing pencils, Holbein pencils and Luminance are expensive enough. All good art supplies are expensive for that matter I feel that artists don't get a lot off really good deals even from the biggest art shops in the US. Not when I compare it with the sales that contractors and crafters get at a Home Depot- like shop. By the way Rae. You mentioned the only art store near you is Hobby Lobby so you have the same fate as I in that aspect, and the bad thing about that is that Hobby Lobby discontinued all the true name brand art papers and now only sells their Artists' Touch brand paper. That sucks, cause I really like the Strathmore toned tanned paper which was the main reason for going to the store anyway. Michaels is too expensive. If anyone knows anything about the art materials they sell of Europe at 3 to 4 times the price of Europe. Michaels markup is outrageous. So even if you get to use a 40% coupon I can tell you for sure you are still getting ripped off. So I go to Blick, Jerry's Artarama or Cheap Joes Art Supply. You are still better off even if you order from Jackson's Art Supply instead of Michael's .
Made me smile when you realised "that little nook" was for easy assess to the pencils, growing up in the 70s I had a sliding wooden pencil case with the same design.
My dad is a carpenter. I have to show him this guy. It's weird and cool to watch someone smell wood they haven't before. I can tell the wood type by the taste and smell from growing up in a cabinet shop. This is making me nostalgic.
If it was me, I'd take the drawing and the pencils and put them in a shadow box on the wall of the art studio. You'd pay $150 for a nice piece of wall art so turn your really nice $150 pencils into wall art.
You know it's expensive when you hear rosewood from India. It's illegal to cut a rosewood tree in India. A trunk of rosewood is like 25 lakhs ( $ 35000)
As a Thai person myself, I recognized the teak immediately as it was my floor material, though I have never smelled it fresh-cut. Truly a god of chairs.
@@Abhi_shek Indians, be proud of your culture, and don't shy away from it. Only India can save the world in the future. Not with material comforts but with real spiritual knowledge. Wait and see. I definitely enjoyed the content and the interesting details and all but I just can’t get excited about the pencils. 😕asking for 150+$ for pencils is ridiculous. I don’t care how luxurious they claim to be. Plus I don’t really care much for the furniture guy. His works aren’t that great IMO. 🤷♀️ glad they smelled good though. Guess that’s kinda cool?

This is the type thing you buy if you're a collector/ admirer of the artist because they aren't pencils for function, they're art. You would do exactly what you have done, maybe not even sharpening them (which I think would be disappointing but understanding). I think it's super cute you get so excited! It's joyful to watch, and you're an excellent artist as well :)
I'm so jealous, I would love to be able to smell those different types of wood. I miss my woodworking class so much. If I had the opportunity to be in there again I would make more giant sculptures that were like 300 lbs lol

Why don’t you go to one?
i'm obsessed with your videos, my mother is obsessed with june's journey. i was NOT expecting to see these two things collide today but that's epic
I can empathize with the hs tater tot craving. I’ve been out of high school for years and I still get cravings for the dodgy square cheese pizza and salad with ranch, and the meatball sub.
don’t remind me of the square pizza that’s stuff was soooo good omg
The hamburger at my school were oddly good for being these slightly unnerving shades of brownish grey sometimes. There's something about some of the food you could get in school that was both delicious and unnerving at the same time. I guess I hold the few good food I could get at school very close as more often than not I wouldn't eat lunch at school since I was ( and still kind of am ) a picky eater.
Y’all remember the Mac Sticks though??? Those little bread tubes filled with cheese you dip in marinara🤤 Those we’re too fire!
Oh. You reminded me of my highschool that had the best cheese rolls. They looked like cinnamon rolls but instead of cinnamon sugar they had the best savoury cheddar. I haven't found anything like them, ever. Now I want cheese rolls. XD
Me buying dollar tree pencils: throwing them, constantly sharpening them, giving them away.
Me buying those pencils: still keeps them in the packageing to not destroy them!
gosh rae i haven’t watched your videos in so long!! your account has grown so much 🥲 KEEP IT UP!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I just wanna say I watch your videos when I'm sad. Your bubbly persona cheers me up, and honestly, the vibe from your videos feels like a little hug. You're passionate, sweet, and I love that
I don't exclusively watch you when I'm feeling down XD But when I do feel sad, your videos help. So thank you
Your enthusiasm over these pencils and your amazing art skills just made my day at the end of a long week. Thank you.

Because I’m neurodivergent I cannot watch TH-cam videos at full length, I’ve gotten so used to stimming through 30 second Tik Tok videos that I just don’t have the attention span for long videos anymore. However I will say that I have been binge watching your page all night, I think I’m like 3-4 hours in at this point. You’re making amazing content!!
I can’t believe you sharpened them. I couldn’t have I would have just looked at them. Lol
Same! I died a little inside with each one

Those pencils look soooo GOOODDDDDD 😭😭😭
Aesthetically pleasing for a person like me who likes the sound of pencil scratching away on a paper... 😘💕💜
Dang it! Now I want completely unnecessary, incredibly expensive pencils.

(Plus, it's Caran d'Ache, and they know how to make a good lead.)
edited to add: On a whim, I just checked Amazon, and the Les Maisons sets are there -- the most recent three, at least -- and range between 27 and 32 USD. They did go to just four pencils per container, though. And one of the new ones has a couple of the same woods as this set. :)
me sitting on a pure rosewood bed that my uncle had gifted my mother at her wedding, of course, he included Indian rosewood
I guess the first pencil was rosewood, rosewood is known for having a distinct floral note(like that of a rose). So yes, it is pretty distinguishable.
“Why can I smell the Earth on this pencil?!?!” -Rae Dizzle 2021
I love how Rae tries to convince herself that this isn't overpriced just because it has Miyamoto's name on it.
Lets be grateful how hard she worked to make her vids some art supplies are SOOOO hard to get her hands on so pls appreciate her😊
I can easily see why this would be a waste of money for some people but the thought of using pencils with a beautiful history and incredible design is to die for. The fact that they each are different types of wood with different weights is deeply desirable for me. Add to that they apply with a matte look rather than the shiny gunmetal of other pencils is just, yes.
I love your videos

This was really cool! Looking at the pencils made me think about how you could decided on which wood you like for your house (cabinets & floors ect.).
That was my first thought too! Now I want teak floors or maybe rosewood....

My dad is a carpenter. I have to show him this guy.
It's weird and cool to watch someone smell wood they haven't before. I can tell the wood type by the taste and smell from growing up in a cabinet shop.
This is making me nostalgic.
I love how much you are geeking out over these , its adorable
If it was me, I'd take the drawing and the pencils and put them in a shadow box on the wall of the art studio. You'd pay $150 for a nice piece of wall art so turn your really nice $150 pencils into wall art.

Fun fact : everyone is first before they refresh. ✨
Yeah right!!...
You know it's expensive when you hear rosewood from India. It's illegal to cut a rosewood tree in India. A trunk of rosewood is like 25 lakhs ( $ 35000)
I can totally understand why this man is so well known in his art, that wood is BEAUTIFUL.
As a Thai person myself, I recognized the teak immediately as it was my floor material, though I have never smelled it fresh-cut. Truly a god of chairs.
Being an indian and knowing one of our wood is in the best woods my feeling is like : mera desh badal raha hai aage bad raha hai😅
😂😂😂
Btw the last sentence means "my country is becoming different and moving forward " for the non Hindi speakers
@@Abhi_shek Indians, be proud of your culture, and don't shy away from it. Only India can save the world in the future. Not with material comforts but with real spiritual knowledge. Wait and see.
For example Edward Striker, an American, became completely spiritual at the end of his life, immersed in love for Krishna in Vrindavan. His spiritual name was Aindra das.
I definitely enjoyed the content and the interesting details and all but I just can’t get excited about the pencils. 😕asking for 150+$ for pencils is ridiculous.
