I'm interested in how the shingles you've nailed with 23 gauge headless pin nails and how they have stayed on your building after almost 3 years with only construction adhesive to hold them on at this point.

Wow! I came to YT to see how to attach flower box brackets to a cedar shake home and here's your video. Oddly enough, my entire family is from Manitoulin Island. My great-grandfather was born on Queen Elizabeth's estate in England and came to the island and build a cedar shake home which lasted well over 100 years! If you can tell me how to attach my window brackets, I would be thrilled. And hats off to you for doing things for quality. It's no surprise to me that you are an islander. :-)

After five years, I'm sure you've figured out that using 23 g pin nails was a failure, and have had to re nail all those spots. I tried using 1/4" crown staples under windows, etc.- also a failure.

delta is pain to work with, stiff and expensive. Rainscreen , even hydrogap will do the same.

Great video. I'm about to tackle my 3000 ft house. My dad built it, so it's fun to dismantle and fix up.

I considered doing woven corners however the wood expands and contracts in our nc climate a few times a year and im fear they will.crack from being glued

Your shingles are butted way to tight. And white cedar is no match for Alaskan yellow especially when it begins to weather.

My shingles do not look anything like that. And they have been painted. I want to paint but wonder how to prep before? Any ideas

Which type of cedar weathers more of a brown color? I’m trying to figure that out for my barn style garage.

shouldn't you have a small gap between the singles? also you explained the bottom row matching up with the sill, but you're windows are always going to have different sizes so that mini row will be on top unless you fudge the vertical gap? curious.. thanks

Thank you for sharing your video. It definitely gave me some great tips and a better understanding of how cedar shakes come together. I like cedar shake shingles as well but mine arent new like yours. If you have cedar shake siding that is beginning to start curling up in some areas ever so slightly, is it alright to sink a couple finish nails like you did into the lower portion of the shake below the upper shake line? The problem isn't looking so bad yet, however I would like to do some preventative maintenance this spring (if possible) to help extend the life of these already somewhat older cedar shakes.
