      YAMMIE I NEED YOUR HELP.... so I just bought my first bike about 3 weeks ago now and I’ve already put about 600 miles on it learning how to ride and everything else. I believe the bike needs maintenance every 600 miles or so.. I’m not a mechanic.. I’ll have to pay someone to do it.. my local dealer quoted me 200 bucks for maintenance... at this rate... 200 bucks every 3-4 weeks for maintenance... that would KILL my pockets..... what am I doing wrong here..? Am I riding too much..? Is that too high of a quote for maintenance or about normal...? How often should I be getting maintenance..? Is it worth learning my own maintenance..even though it’s a brand new bike and I kinda don’t wanna mess anything up ‘learning maintenance’.. it’s a Suzuki gsx s750 btw

    • @arifismaiI
      @arifismaiI 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@77atkins 600 miles is the break-in period for a new bike. Look up an owner's manual or a service manual for your bike. After the break-in period, most street bikes need oil changes after a few thousand miles. So you don't need to change the oil that often. Maybe twice a year depending on how often you ride.

    I have a Hypermotard 1100S with 2-1 high level termignoni, oberon clutch and as far as I know no engine tuning mods. The bike will power wheelie in 2nd gear to the balance point with nothing more than just opening the throttle and holding it open (no clutching it up required in any way shape or form). It's quite a tall bike so that might be part of the reason it might feel slow to flip left to right but equally maybe the tyres had slight flat spots or low pressures. I've raced supermoto bikes in the past and this style of bike benefits from being pushed down left to right for corners and with that style of riding I've never felt it was slow to turn. It is one of the most fun bikes I've owned. The front brakes are fairly strong and rolling stoppies are fairly easy. I fitted Ducati Streetfighter Mirrors to mine and they fit in rather well. I also have a Renthal fatbar on mine that I've trimmed to make tham slightly narrower (ie took about 2" off either side and fitted Nylon bar ends). I've also fitted some conventional front indicators on mine adjacent to the front fairing. I think the bike you rode was probably a little bit tired due to being borrowed by a number of people beforehand that probably ragged it a bit more than you did in the video. Mine certainly appears to have far stronger brakes as standard than the one you rode.

      It's a hire bike and he didn't even get the model right or the features (ABS?). These were set up fairly crappy from factory so unless the owner knows what they're doing, it's probably still set up poorly. Add right height via the adjuster (available on the 1100S model) and ideally cartridges in the forks for best effect.

    I traded in my HYM 1100 with a DP race cam and race ECU last year. I really miss that bike. I do however NOT miss the servicing intervals on the desmo valves and cambelts on it. Nor do I miss the complete lack of ground clearance on the track. But for dicking about on the weekends, I doubt I will find a better bike. I'm hoping the SDR 1290 1.0 I'm picking up tomorrow fills the void that my old bike left...

      Hypermotard is air and oil cooled, just look at the oil cooler up front. Also the 2 valve air-oil cooled engines (especially the 1100) from Ducati are bullet proof as far as reliability.

      Very reliable! I've never had an issue with mine in the 5 years I've owned it, apart from the clutch (was already fit with an aftermarket clutch when I bought it). The engine is shared with the Multistrada I believe

    You said 410-420lbs it's more like 450lb's (wet) still not bad though about 205kg impressive it's the same as a Yamaha T700 and 1100cc

    • @spondonste
      @spondonste 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a Hypermotard 1100S with carbon fibreTermignoni 2-1and have weighed it myself in wet weight ready to ride (the rear mudguard plastics have been cut down aswell). Mine was 174.3kg ready to go with 12.4 litres of fuel in it (this would equate to around 165kg wet ready to go but with an empty fuel tank). Consequently mine with a full tank of fuel and completely ready to go is approximately 385 pounds. (for info front to back weight balance is 52.5% weight front and 47.5 % weight rear). 410lbs for a standard Hypermotard does seem entirely reasonable to me.

    The Hypermotard 1100 S was at the time using the same front brakes (monoblocks) as the top tier Ducati Superbike 1098 and also came with Perelli Diablo super corsa 3 along with forged machined wheels. Properly set up suspension (fully adjustable 50mm marzocchi and ohlins rear) and sportier tires and it will out handle even modern bikes (trust me I've riden modern bikes) its agility is only hindered by front feeling little too nervous almost flighty. The age of the bike and how well it's been maintained all play a factor in this. You should check out videos of people racing these against bikes with way more power. If you're ever in Houston hit me up and I'll let you ride my almost stock Hypermotard 1100 S back to back with my KTM Superduke GT. PS.. if the brakes feel squishy, he needs to service those brakes.

    950SP - Like all new motor bikes are all developed by ex-racers. Unfortunately than leads to engines where all their power is at the top of the RPM like the 950SP. As you showed the 1100 Hyper is all down low - perfect!

      Actually it's a L-twin, the cylinders are 90° from each other. Plus they come stock with inverted forks, brembro brakes, ohlins rear shock. Lots of fun, I have a 2011 Evo Hyper.

  • @peterjackson998
    @peterjackson998 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have one and resident in the UK, I would say if it does not flick as fast as you want I would be looking at some descent rubber, and maybe reset the suspension to stock (if somebody has tried to fettle) or a good suspension service will sort that right out, additionally if the brakes felt wooden they also probably need a good service.

    • @peterjackson998
      @peterjackson998 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      and too add, if you are on it the bike will give you a little shake on the power out of corner but its more of a friendly nudge to make sure you are awake. All to do with that short wheel base and tall riding position.

    How would it compare to mt 09? I think old hypermotard would still smoke even mt 09sp right? By the way I bought myself monster 1100 2009 after first owner with low mileage💪. Same engine as hypermotard just different gearing. Didn't ride it yet, need to change belts first. So now I have in my garage my old gsxr 1000k1 and monster. Very curious which one I would enjoy more on streets 🤔.

      Changing the oil is super easy and you can easily do it on the side of the road even if you dont have a garage/driveway.
