    Great info, I just re-enlisted in the FL ARNG at 41yo after being out of the Regular Army for over 21 years. Mentally ready for BCT but hoping this old bag of bones can keep up with the tweens 🤣. Pensacola FL here. Going to my first RSP in 2 weeks.

      Wow! This should be interesting for you! I can foresee you getting a lot of respect for re-enlisting at 41 and for having Prior Service with the Regular Army. I was in charge of the RSP program in East TN and with any experience at all, it should be simple for you, yet, a good refresher. Good luck! Would love to hear back from you after your first RSP drill.

      @@SFCBEITZ thanks for circling back! The FL ARNG is honestly great, but going back through BCT at 41 was hell, since I was not an NCO when I was Hon. Discharged 22 yrs ago. I got treated the same as the 17-22 yr olds, didn’t get any special privileges or get to sleep in a separate barracks unless you’re E5 or higher. We had 4 of those prior NCOs and they got their own barracks, released everyday at 1800, not have the insane fire guard duty punishment, had cell phones every night, and base passes every weekend. I was the 3rd oldest in the company and got crapped on 19 hrs a day for 2.5 mos just like all the others. No respect for prior service if you weren’t an NCO even though I was older than all the DSs and they knew I’d been through all that mess before. Sadly, it’s a very unmotivating environment nowadays vs when I first enlisted in 1998. I’m glad it’s done now and I accomplished that goal, but I wouldn’t do it again if I’d known it was going to be that bad this time. RSP was okay, nothing too torturous for the new guys going in but I didn’t see a reason for recent graduates waiting for their unit pick-up to have to go there for 3 months before the First Formation handoff that FL does now. Just unnecessary ‘humbling’ for people who are ready to hit the ground running.

      @@joeguillory8050 That's brutal that they put you in with all the new privates! After IADT, I attended 4 additional MOS schools throughout my career. I had it made in the shade at all those schools because I was an NCO. I literally only reported to classroom training, other than a PT test on the first week I didn't have to do any PT, the Army paid for a rental car for me, I stayed in a hotel lol I basically worked from 0800-15 or 1600 with an hour+ break for lunch. When I wasn't in classroom, I was doing whatever I pleased. In most of the MOS courses I attended, there was a lot of MOS-T's who had it good like me. We took a trip to Six Flags one of the times, went to a Cardinals game, clubbing, etc. lol battle handoffs have to wait 3 months to get picked up by their unit now? why?

    • @joeguillory8050
      @joeguillory8050 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SFCBEITZ FL ARNG now has what’s called First Formation where we all go to Camp Blanding in Jax/Starke to get CIF, ppwk processing, and med screenings for unit handoff. They only hold it every other month, but you have to sign up by the 20th of the previous month. So I missed that cutoff by a week due to BCT grad and had to wait through 3 mos of RSPs again before the next one. So I didn’t actually report to my unit til Sep after I grad in May.

    I recently enlisted and I haven’t gotten to go to one RSP since it was later in the month I happen to ship out 2 weeks after of my first RSP drill. Will I be given enough knowledge from only one drill? I probably will only get a small bit of red phase and be instantly switched to blue phase. I got a spot into the ARMS 2.0 Program before BCT so I don’t know if I’ll be able to get enough prep for BCT because of my lack of RSP drills.

      In the morning you will wear clothes to do physical training (PT) in, then you will change into uniform after. You should get your uniform issued your first or second drill. I recommend bringing a backpack to drill where you can keep some deodorant/hygiene items, your phone, and anything else you may need.

    After I enlisted I found out that I only have two drills before I ship! Will I still be allowed to ship if I didn't get to go through all the phases? What if I'm not physically 100% rdy? I'm exercising in the mean time, but still... some things, such as running, takes time to make a habit and perfect (plus you don't want to get yourself hurt before you ship or before drill weekends)?? I ship at the end of July and tomorrow is my first (split) drill which will end at the end of Saturday.

    • @SFCBEITZ
      @SFCBEITZ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      From now until the end of July, you can make some big gains/huge improvements in your physical fitness level. Something that might help you mentally though is; when you get to BCT, they treat everyone like everyone is out of shape, and at a low fitness level. So, if you go there after almost 2 months of running, doing push ups, and sit ups, you will be in a lot better position than you realize. When you arrive, they don't expect you to be in good shape. I know you are probably feeling some nerves, but, I hope this drill you are currently at helped you feel a lot more prepared! Let me know how drill went please! You don't have to go through all phases, since you ship soon, they will make sure you go through the most important parts of RSP only.

    • @rachaelmarie2237
      @rachaelmarie2237 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SFCBEITZ that helps a lot mentally! Since I'm going in at an older age I've really been fighting the thought that all these younger ppl are just going to walk over me, but physically they may but in maturity maybe not. That's what we are a team for though, right? To balance out our abilities, strengths and weaknesses! Thank you so much for the encouragement! I am very excited about drill tomorrow and can't wait to go! I was issued my ocps today since I had to do a split with the SFC since I won't make it on Sunday and I must say... so proud and honored to be able to wear this uniform and I look forward to training and serving with all my brothers and sisters.

      @@SFCBEITZ 1st drill was awesome! The running got me, but the encouragement empowered me! I had the 1SG running next to me and encouraging me as well as my recruiter. The 1SG walked with me after and talked with me about the Army and was very kind (but I feel bad because I had no idea at the time who or what rank he was so I just called him sir..). Other than that it was all the typical rsp drill stuff and by the end of the day I was even more proud to wear the uniform, rdy for the journey, and feeling like a part of a family which meant a lot!

      Yes, everyone goes through the RSP unless they’re a “direct ship”. Meaning, you ship pretty much immediately after you enlist. But 99% of people who enlist into the National Guard do at least one weekend at the Recruit Sustainment Program. It’s a great program that will benefit you tremendously before BCT, even if you only go once.

    Hi SFC Beitz what will I be doing during purple phase?

    • @SFCBEITZ
      @SFCBEITZ  ปีที่แล้ว

      We typically only have red, white, blue, green, and gold phase. However, I believe some RSP's have a purple phase where it's your first and last drill before basic training. So, am I correct that this will be your first drill you've attended and the last drill you will have before you ship? If so, you will be very busy. Mostly, they will be making sure you are administratively correct. They need to make sure all your personal data is uploaded into the system and it is correct, there's forms you will need to complete, you will get a shippers brief...it won't be the most exciting drill because it'll be a lot of paperwork that needs to get accomplished. If those things aren't complete, then you cannot ship.

    If you feel like the national guard isn’t for you and try to transfer branches before bootcamp can you?

    • @SFCBEITZ
      @SFCBEITZ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They probably won’t assist you in transferring branches, they’ll likely just try and convince you to stay in. If you are persistent enough about wanting out, they’ll probably discharge you. If they’re dicks about it, they can discharge you dishonorably and make it hard for you to be able to join another branch because the type of discharge they did. Are you in that situation personally? If so, what’s making you change your mind? My recommendation would be to complete your time in the Guard, then once your contract is up, join whatever branch you want. When you complete your contract, you’ll get out with a clean and honorable discharge, which will look good on your background for life, and then you can do whatever you want/join whatever branch you want.

    • @SFCBEITZ
      @SFCBEITZ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Now if you are talking about wanting to go to the Army from the Guard, my recommendation is: complete BCT/AIT while in the Guard and when you get back, ask for a conditional release (DD368) from your leadership, and that’ll allow you to transfer without any blemishes. I don’t think you can do a conditional release to another branch like the Marines or Airforce, but, you could do it if you just wanted to change which Army component you are in (Army, Army Reserve, or Army National Guard). Meaning, if you are in the Guard, you can do a conditional release to the Army or Army Reserve...or if you are in the Reserve, you can conditional release to the Army. If you are in the Army though, you can’t conditional release to the Guard or Reserve. They will only allow you to change your service from part time to full time, not full time to part time.

Just let me know what city you are in and your zip code, I’ll find you a Recruiter and provide you their number. Basic requirements are: be at least 17 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, or be a high school Junior or Senior on track to graduate, no medical problems that would prevent you for military service and no major legal trouble.

      They should allow you to drill at the nearest RSP...for my troops that lived over an hour away from the RSP, I use to pick them up and drive them so they didn’t have to use their own gas or put wear and tear on their vehicle...but it won’t effect you negatively other than you’ll have to get up extra early.

      You don't have to be a citizen to join, but you need to be a a permanent resident (green card holder). So yes, if you have a green card you can enlist. Yeah, ask him what he used to get in if he didn’t have a green card. If he doesn’t know, ask him to ask his Recruiter. There is another form or two you can use in replace of the green card but they’re documents that show you’re a permanent resident.
