You just have to use the peach amiibo when you are in the air, it gives you life and thanks to this method, we can go to any place where we suffer damage. It can even be used an infinity of times!
I just beat this area and was wondering myself. There's so much stuff like this in the game. I bet the devs just did their best jump in any direction and then thought, OK put some pillars 20% further, some idiot will try it for hours. Only to realize there's nothing there! *evil laugh*
Oh dang, if I had known another Odyssey TH-camr did this already I wouldn't have! Just checked out your video. GG on getting to the top of that pillar! I think I was too impatient since it took me a while to get to that spot in the first place lol. Managing to get there with a single life-up heart is good enough of an accomplishment for me ^^.
It’s also possible to make it to the island beyond the tall one. You have to go to the tall island, slide off it and quickly use the peach amiibo to get your 6 hearts back then wall jump off the bottom of the island and do a lava cap bounce. Then do the downward cap bounces until you reach the islands and then there’s an area where you can stand in between them at the bottom. Then you use the peach amiibo again and jump into the lava and you can run up the island to the left and jump, cap bounce, and wall jump up. I don’t know how to lava bounce but I do know a technique to get up to that last pillar. If you ground pound jump to throw your cap at the pillar, then walk so that your touching the pillar, ground pound jump so that you’re boosted to your cap, and then wall jump, cap throw, and dive, you practically can’t miss. You should practice by jumping on top of the block on the secret path island in the metro kingdom and grabbing the coins there. The technique you use won’t get you up there, but if you practice this technique you can retry this and make it to the pillar Edit: I’m trying to figure out how to lava jump so I can do it

I've got a challenge for ya, Nathan! In the Metro Kingdom, try to JUMP from the tower with the pool, all the way down onto Cpt. Toad's head! (It's harder than it sounds!)
You’re better than Fearsome 😂 Also, I think there should be balloon world on Dark side, but loading zones are allowed! Also also, you can get on the higher pillar with a triple jump, and a bounce off cap against the wall, both of those things giving you extra height; good luck !
Alright so showcase this cool glitch I found, where if you press - on the same frame as you land on lava, even if you are at 1 health, you can warp to any checkpoint and survive. Pretty cool.
I know, right? Almost makes me wonder why Nintendo bothered making a fully-rendered pillar model with collision. I'm not complaining though as it made for a really really fun challenge. I knew it was possible to make it there...but what I didn't think was possible was making it to the second pillar in a single life-up heart. That drove me crazy lol.
While this is true, you cannot lava hop with assist mode on. As soon as you touch the lava, you bubble back to the last piece of land you were on. Likewise, if you were to turn assist mode on once you got to the first pillar, it'd restart you at the beginning of the level. Would have been an amazing workaround though had it worked.
Not a dumb question at all! Assist mode doesn't help here because it prevents you from being able to lava bounce. The second you touch the lava, it bubbles you back to the last piece of solid land you stood on. This is why every time I failed, I was forced to go back to the life up heart location to set up for another attempt.
Nice dude, just watched! I'm notoriously bad at simple jumps lol. It took me FOREVER to get the Metro Kingdom awning skip down. Impossible roll cancel jumps? No problem. Ground pound jump dives? Gimme a few hours... xD

made it in 2 players mode, instead of cappy bouncing I just jumped with the second controller on the lava, and dived to gain more distance at every bounce, made it to the first pillar with only 3 bounces
Pretty sure the jump you couldn’t do might be possible by doing one jump while standing still then performing a triple jump. Then use cappy bounces and a wall jump to make it up top. I will try this myself. I’ll tell you my results !
Good luck! I think my issue was the fact that I was impatient lol. It took me two hours to make it there with a single life-up heart so I was just ready to end the video xD
Made it ! Did the setup (going on top of the two islands) in about 25 mins, and the jump in about 2 minutes. It’s easy, I think once you made the setup it’s doable by everyone. Just do the triple jump as I described. Sadly I can’t show clips because I don’t use social medias, sorry. EDIT : Honestly it’s crazy how Mario’s movement in Odyssey let you do such things. It’s just too good. You couldn’t perform any of these jumps in any other Mario games. I’m certain. This Mario game is by far the best I have ever played and will play, for sure. Until they make an even crazier episode... we can only expect that from god Nintendo. Also, I have experimented, and you can ledge grab all three of the platforms, and Mario gets kinda glitchy when he ledge grabs in a certain spot. For example, one spot at the highest platform glitches a half of Mario in the wall and you can’t even see his face, lol Also the ground of the platforms even have some glitchy collision, sometimes Mario kind of have his feet in the ground. Your videos are very entertaining, and I can’t wait to see another impossible jump. Good job dude. Congratulations. 😁

You could get at the very end of the pillar, on the side where you collide with the other wall, you could CRJ and maybe it works. P.S. I never tried it.

for the last pillar, literally just do a triple jump and you'll be able to get all the height you need.

If you go into assistance mode you get 6 hearts default, you can still pick up the 3 heart power up which will give you 9 hearts. And they replenish

You should have used Assist Mode, where you have 6 lives to start and they regenerate if you stop and hold still for a few seconds.

You can do this easily if you had the Mario amigo which grants one minute of invincibility and you can walk on lava
I feel like they just ran out of names and had dark side and darker side.
