This video is great, thank you. I had a Sony DSC WX-350 that the LCD screen broke on and replacements were used at $165 and new near the $300 range. After watching this video I purchased the LCD screen on ebay for $24 and my camera now works.
I am so happy that I could repair my favorite camera with the help of your video. I was so sad that the screen broke through a fall. Although I have no technical knowledge, with your help I learned a lot. And it was a peace of cake thanks to your clear and detailed video to get it working again. Especially with the close-ups you made. Thank you so much for taking time to make this video!
Thankyou very, very much for making this video. I encountered this problem halfway through a world-trip and was not able to return my camera to the country of manufacture for warranty repairs. Your video gave me the idea to order just a screen online and also showed me how to replace it, and meant that I only went without a camera for a week and had it repaired on the day I went to visit the Rocky Mountains. I'm sincerely grateful.
Non dovevo sostituire lo schermo lcd, ma semplicemente rimuovere della sabbia finissima interposta tra schermo e vetro protettivo. Operazione riuscita perfettamente! Grazie David!
Thanks for this well produced video. I particularly appreciated the close up shots when seating the cables. You have saved me a significant amount of money and time to repair my camera.
Thanks for the tutorial, the only mistake I made was 4:28. I was going from memory, took the cage off and the top with ribbon bit came off with it and I just ended CA glueing the bezel to the new screen. If it comes off I can just reglue proper beats having a very much busted screen.
So cool, it worked perfectly! I bought a New display ( was described for cybershot hx300/Nikon coolpixs8200. Seems to be the same display as for the hx50v). Paid 12dollar (OK, and 13 Dollar shipping...) and have now a Working camera again. THX for the instructions!!!
Thanks so much for your clear demonstration and tips. For less than $18 AUD I know have my camera back in working condition if not with a scratch or to on the Sony face plate, and unfortunately the LCD replacement had a visible fault which once powered shows a yellow horizontal line. Back to the vendor, but the diagnosis is positive.
5:15 Very helpful tutorial! How to know if the backlight is still good? The broken LCD screen of my DSC-HX50V only shows some black and white light. Taking photos works and I can transfer the photos to the PC. Where to order this screen, a friend told me not to order it from any Chinese company, they take the money and tell you that they send the screen in three months but actually will never send the product.
try plugging in the backlight cable ( small cable ) with the lcd removed and power on camera to see if backlight works. I have bought from china seller on ebay before and received good lenses and other parts but dont buy from this one th-cam.com/video/ZAvJyqE2ADc/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=Dave%27sProjects
Hi, I have followed your instructions exactly (and I have rechecked each step) but for some reason the camera will not power up. Have you any suggestions please? Thanks
on the back of the main motherboard is the main power cable. it just pushes in no clip retainer. i dont see how it could have come unplugged. but you might want to check it.
Hi, I followed all your steps, now when I press the on button, the screen has a vague glow but the lens isn't turning on like before. What should I do?
Excellent video Otherstuff. I've got a HX-50V where the Wi-Fi has completely stopped working. I get a Network error every time I try to use the Wi-Fi function. Sony have told me that it is most likely a hardware fault. Any ideas on which part might be causing this and where I could get the part from?
there is only three boards in the camera, top control panel board / main board / and the back control panel, i think the wifi antenna is on the top panel control board, try to initialize the camera first, and make sure your wifi is indeed working, the best way to set the wifi is to do the wifi WPS push, click on WPS Push in camera then you push the button on your wifi device.
Have you come across the control wheel when you go into the menu & press it it goes by itself? I came across a thread that said turn camera off then press hard & turn the wheel. It worked but then started acting up again. Called Sony they had me do a reset & it did it again & retried the 1st method & it stopped again.
yes. control wheel is dirty or ribbon cable is loose or bad. if you unplug the control wheel cable and turn the camera on the menu will go crazy. best to get a replacement control wheel with cable.

That is strange.. check the backlight cable contacts make sure they are clean. shinny gold not frosted dull look. they could have a film on them causing them not to make contact. i have seen this before on all cables inside cameras.
I followed the steps but now when I turn on the camera the screen is really dark and in the middle some sort of vague negative/blue filter going on so I can barely seen the screen. Is this because I did something wrong or is the new screen damaged??

Might be the contacts on the ribbon cables on the LCD or CCD. They get a residue build up on the contacts if the camera has been near moisture. Looks like you're losing contact on the LCD cable that powers the LCD. The back light is working. From what it look like in your video every time you push a button it makes contact. try this dont push a button but push on the case near a button and see if it does the same thing. If so you need to clean the gold contacts on the LCD ribbon cable. If they look dull they have a moisture residue build up on them. In this video you see the gold contacts on the LCD ribbon cable how bright gold they are? i have seen them dull with a build up on them and the camera would act funny. If its not the cable contacts it might be a bad LCD or ribbon cable but check the cable contacts first. clean them very carefully lay the LCD on a flat surface, dont bend on ribbon cable. clean them with a little toothpaste and a light tooth brush then make sure you remove all the toothpaste clean and dry before installing. Be very careful.
