    gepard is old but a very impressive and amazing precise weapon. it was designed and is able to shoot down any air threat in its range, including deep flying jets.
    when i was in the bundeswehr, i saw many weapon systems of which gepard impressed me the most.
    its speed of aming and firing combined with its precision is absolutely stunning.
    there are much heavier weapons, but i considered the presence of this beast felt more threatening to me as infantryman than anything else. the cannon is focussing on a target with horrible speed and any support van ist turned into peaces of iron within 3 seconds.
    gepard was the most expensive tank we had, more expensive than main battle tanks. the guys who run on this systems were known as very capable, well trained and specalized tank crews.

    From 1984-85 I was stationed in Kassel - Wabern after my basic training as a Panzergrenadier and during my service I took part in various maneuvers partly with the US ARMY at the Inner German border. Towing targets of several anti-aircraft tanks Gepard were shot from the sky. That was extremely impressive. The Americans were really frightened when they started to shoot. They didn't have anything like that back then.

      That was the Gepard2BL, and Ukraine got the more modern Gepard1A2, which was last extensively modernized between 2000 and 2005. The Gepard1A2 can be coupled with longer-range radar systems and therefore only has to use its own radar system in exceptional cases. Likewise, the Gepard1A2 can be coupled with one another, whereby a Gepard fire control computer takes over the target finding of the other Gepard1A2 and targets can be attacked in a coordinated manner.

    • @Davidt1066
      @Davidt1066 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      1. the radar upgrades are not old, also these gepards are to be linked into radar networks, so they receive the target informations from larger installations and in the last stage use the trackingradar for guiding the cannons. Also, as refering to an BW Officer using these things for many years the radar seems to be quite resistant against jamming.

      i dont think you will see much videos or official statements about the effectiveness. at least not in near future. 1. why would you tell your enemy what is hitting them and where, so they can narrow in the position within the weapons firing range, in this case 5km 2.if you busy hitting your enemy, you no have time to take videos. Same happend to the PZH. for a month any news-channel was flooded about every single HIMARS strike, while you found rarely any videos about what the longrange artillery was doing, firing 150+ rounds per day and per gun on top of enemy artillery, tanks and positions. and i guess the asset did its job otherwise they wouldnt have ordered 100 pieces more.
