    TBH Caracas was petty dangerous in the 1970s and 1980s, too. When I was growing up, no one in their right mind would set foot in Petare (pronounced “peh-TAH-reh”), and the first neighborhood we lived in, Chacaito (pronounced “chah-cah-EE-to”), bordered on being dicey, although we later moved to a nicer, although still largely urban, neighborhood. (Rather than a suburban neighborhood - so, one with shops and high rises, rather than one with _quintas_ - imagine Manhattan vs. Long Island, for example.) The people in _ranchitos_ (what we call shanty houses) have always had it hard, and most people in the eastern half of the city (the rich half) never venture into the poor half. We routinely did, because my mom was religious and we were somewhat connected to some missionaries doing work there, and it was shocking to see how little people had, but also shocking - and infuriating - to witness how willfully much of the wealthy half of the city would turn a blind eye to the poor half. That a Hugo Chavez type of figure would emerge seems almost inevitable. Maduro has overstayed his welcome, but a lot of Chavez’s policies did help the poor tremendously, and the economy’s collapse owes less to any policy of Chavez’s, and more to the price of oil dropping precipitously, and to decisions taken by previous administrations, dating back to the 1960s (or even to the 1920s, in some ways), to build ZERO infrastructure, and to expand NO other sectors of the economy besides the petrochemical ones. (As an example, in the 1970s we - despite having loads of arable land, and the potential to have a vast agricultural sector of the economy - were importing over 90% of our food!!!) Maduro needs to go, but the last thing Venezuela needs now is a US puppet installed, or to return to the status of one of the USA’s vassal states. We need to regain our MERCOSUR status, and to work with Ecuador and Uruguay and Guyana (and Chile, once democracy is restored there, and Brazil, once sanity is restored there) and Nicaragua to strengthen Latin America’s economy as a whole. And we need to form pan-tropical trade and diplomatic agreements with African and Asian states, independent of any multilateral agreements forged by China or the USA, and independent from Russian influence. We need a solution from inside the country, and hopefully someone who will keep the country moving forward. Henrique Capriles seemed like a good choice for president at one point, although today I’d most like to see Henri Falcón elected. What we need now is further reform, and NOT to cede power to some right-wing reactionary cabal. Anyway, thank you for the compassionate look at my country, I’m glad you enjoyed your stay!!
    [Edited to correct back to _castellano_ some words/names autocorrect had tried, without my noticing, to change to English ones.]

    My best friend is Venezuela and I'm Trinidadian we hardly speak each other's language. We communicate by doing actions and some words we comprehend. Over 80,000 Venezuelans have fled to Trinidad for survival and for a better life and it is a very sad situation since the Venezuelans are not being educated in Trinidad.
    Trinidad is not dealing with the situation properly at the moment. I am afraid that Trinidad's will be similar to Venezuela in a few years.
    Thank you sir for showing others that there is a positive side to Venezuela💕🙏🏼🇻🇪 and that not all the people who live there are bad.
    There alot of nice Venezuelans and sure know how to host a fiesta and a cookout.😎🎉

    I lived in Venezuela in the early 80s. Caracas, Maracaibo and Valencia. I was a blonde haired blue-eyed teenager from Philadelphia and I traveled all over. Never had one problem. Venezuela was a thriving beautiful country at that time. It was four bolivars to $1. And whatever cost a dollar in America cost $4 bolivars in Venezuela. The only major difference was the cost of gas.
    I fell in love with a girl named Moraima. The women were BEAUTIFUL! Viva Venezuela.

    Sorry. It is their fault. They may have been well meaning but they voted in this insanity and now they can't get out of it. We are about to do the same here in the USA.

    • @rodolfokey7835
      @rodolfokey7835 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In your "conclusion" you didn't take into account some facts, just out of ignorance about the topic. In Venezuela elections have been rigged since 2004. Hugo Chavez won the presidential election in Venezuela fair and square in 1998 but little by little he grabbed more and more power (just like Trump has been doing it) until Venezuela became a dictatorship disguised as a democracy, and, as you should know, people's will in a dictatorship doesn't count. Just imagine Trump rigging the November elections and the military supporting him, and anyone who goes out to protest is murdered, incarcerated or tortured. Now imagine Trump runs the country to the ground, and any protest is squashed by the military and militia groups financed by the government (which is the case in Venezuela) ... and now imagine an ignorant person saying "that's the Americans fault because they elected Trump". Do your homework mate before opening your big mouth!

    • @8House
      @8House 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rodolfokey7835 Your symbolic comparison to Trump is tortured logic but to answer your question yes it would be the fault of Americans. You admitted that Chavez won the first time legitimately so yes the Venezuelan people asked for it and they got it. You can vote your way into socialism but you have to shoot your way out of it. BTW you should be happy. We here in the USA are slowly becoming quite like Latin America. A tiny sliver wealthy, the rest poor. High levels of violence and political corruption as society swirls slowly down the drain. I feel badly for the people of Venezuela, a beautiful once prosperous nation. In a decade or two we will be just like Venezuela unless there is an abrupt change of course. You ever heard of the red pill? I retract nothing.

    • @rodolfokey7835
      @rodolfokey7835 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@8House You say "tortured logic" and don't say why. It's lazy to respond with just an empty title ... or a sign that you really don't have a valid argument. As to the second part of your reply, according to you then, most European countries, which at some point in time have elected socialist presidents or prime ministers, should be in tatters with dictators running the country. In the case of Venezuela, again, you are talking from a place of utter ignorance. Chavez sold him self to the Venezuelan people as a moderate left leaning candidate (European style of left candidate); he even denounced the Cuban regime as a dictatorship. Unfortunately too many people believed him ... It's a cowardly statement to say that the current situation is the fault of the Venezuelan people after learning that there have been thousands of people murdered, incarcerated, tortured and in exile fighting against the current regime. Also, you are saying that it would be the American people's fault if Trump rigs this coming election and becomes a dictator with the support of the military ... really?, seriously? and if Americans fought against that regime and hundreds of thousands were murdered or tortured in their fight for freedom, would you still say to their relatives, it's you fault guys for having voted for Trump in 2016? really? It's so easy to talk shit from your comfy room mate; you are such a great and courageous keyboard warrior BRAVO!

    • @8House
      @8House 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rodolfokey7835 One more time and I'm out. Nature doesn't care about your feelings and probably cares less about mine. If I could wave a magic wand and make Venezuela free and prosperous again I would do it. The "socialist" countries in Europe you mention are all funded by strong core capitalist economies. Many are going broke and all will be replaced my more virile immigrants. The vast majority of us can find the source of our problems by running to the nearest mirror. Good luck to you wherever you are.

    Venezuela will get justice as soon as the US Empire gives up the Monroe Doctrine and stops the economic warfare on Venezuela. Some hope is on the horizon. "On February 13, the Venezuelan government filed a complaint with the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate the crimes committed by the White House as a result of the implementation of the blockade."

      If you have a income of 300 euros monthly, you can live in Venezuela. It's really cheap.

      you will be literally rich, that's a lot of money. and you could live in the best way possible! Yes, in venezuela we have fast food, electricity (it doesnt work so well) but there's a bunch of people investing in our country. I have faith we'll be better than the past few years and this country will rise again. Im a 18 year old guy, from petare. And I know that my country will come out of this! sorry if i made a mistake, im learning.
