But still doesnt show al the picture of what Caracas is in reality. I've been born and rise in las Mercedes and haven't been inside Petare. Good job journalist
I was born in Venezuela, but haven't seen it since 1995 I was still a child and never been back. I am so happy you're making these videos because it opens a window into the reality of what the country looks like and what is happening. The media manipulates so much that is hard to trust what is really going on. It's so heartbreaking to see what the country has turned into with this socialist/communist regime - seems like they did accomplish the promised equality: Almost EVERYONE IS EQUALLY POOR such a massive shame. Thank you for giving visibility to the reality and stay safe. God bless you.
Next destinations to explore: Yemen, South Sudan, Central African Republic, Somalia. If you don't want to take it too far, what about some obscure places? Guyana, Guinea Bissau, Subantarctic Islands, Tuvalu, Marshall Islands.

I was born in Venezuela and spent my childhood there. When I was 14 me and my family left. That's now 6 years ago and it breaks my heart to see my country in ruins. We had the privilege to go to europe and to have a decent life but seeing so many of my brothers and sisters living in these inhuman situations while some dirty bast*rds profit from this corrupt and evil system makes me sick.
I am happy that you found safety. Too many suffering. I feel that being born in America is like getting a winning lottery ticket. Then again, why is US not sending Venezuela, El Salvador, Guatemala and sooo many more countries money? I don't understand the US. Why can't we just all unite and just be one, HUGE "America?" I love people from all over the world bc other cultures bring more intelligent ideas to ALL of us as humans. Once again, so happy you found safety. I pray for your people.

@@rubenrathgeber458 Much respect to you. I am concerned for this inhumane treatment that is currently happening. I just wish we could all sit down, chill, cook together, learn from eachother, etc. Most regular, common, working class Americans want to help but our own government shuts us down when we say be humane to everyone, everywhere. I don't want to vote anymore bc of this situation that mainstream media will not address, etc. The American news channels are trying to brainwash American people to believe immigrants are "bad." We all know that is a terrible thing to say about good people. I am saddened. Immigration is good 👍 We are ALL humans.
Regarding falafel: Venezuela received a large influx of immigrants from Syria and Lebanon between the 1960’s and the 1990’s. As a result, you can find some surprisingly good falafel there. In the 90s, falafel carts outnumbered hot dog carts in Puerto la Cruz. I also remember that Catia had a high density of small middle eastern restaurants in the 70s and 80s., I’m hoping that your El Hatillo falafel experience was memorable.
I know a Venezuelan family of Lebanese descent here in LA. They are well off, and moved here for obvious reasons. I first met them about four years ago. I don't know how long they've been here.
@@heilamessy why wouldn't they? Venezuela usually received rich inmigrant families. I've met lots of inmigrants to venezuela in the teme I lived there, hey where from all kinds of backgrounds, but all the inmigrants had one thing in common, they all had MONEY
You should visit Maracaibo city to really get to know the real Venezuela, people in Caracas lives in a bubble because they are "privileged" by no not having constant blackouts and gas shortage like in other cities outside the capital
I just "discovered" you on TH-cam. I'm trying to work my way through your travels in the order that you traveled. I noted in your disclaimer of your North Korea videos that you are not a journalist. I must disagree. What you're doing is real journalism. You report what you see. You report how the people are living, what their days are like, what they eat, how they interact and survive. You show their countries' good points and bad with little or no social commentary. All of this, and more, is real journalism, and you do it very, very well. And, in my opinion, your reportage and commentary is excellent. You are a natural at this. You maintain interest in your subject without the use of controversy or opinion. I have no idea what you may want to pursue as a life's work, but you would certainly excel at pure journalism. Good luck in your future adventures.
I'm totally agree with this comment, as a venezuelan I shared those videos to my foreign friends, because all that I saw in these videos is real no less neither more. It's perfect this report.
Hi, I actually watched every video of this serie, and I'm a Local, I was born in Venezuela and actual living here, and I really feel grateful because you came here and make the people of the world actually see what is happening, the kids, the insecurity, the devaluation of the bolivar, and everything. For us, is actually really rare, that someone for another far countrie, want to come and meet our nation, because of the obvious situation. You were really brave to be here 2 weeks, and I'm happy that nothing bad happend to you. Again, Thank you for coming and make a video about us, and make other people see, that we aren't only politics, we are a countrie full of love to give and decided to make a change
I always appreciate your sincere effort to remain neutral and respectful in all the countries you visit no matter the national and international conflicts/frictions.
Leon, I agree, the problem started before Chavez with some very corrupt governments, Chavez made it worst by changing and creating a new constitution that gave him total power that created more corruption, and Maduro has been an inept. For Venezuela to improve it has to reinvent itself and look at countries that have less resources but they do not have the terrible situation that they got into. They had the most income not only for south america but that some developed countries, but they killed it, not the US or some crazy corporation, but did it to themselves, that is what total power does.
Yes. That man is known for playing near my college (UCV). Once his saxophone was stolen and many people from my university spread a collaboration and helped him recover his instrument. Glad to see he keeps playing...
As a venezuelan living in europe. trying to support my family over there you have done a grate job thank you. I grew-up in el hatillo and use to study and work in Plaza Venezuela and Sabana Grande it was really nostalgic for me to see the town remembering the times I spent there in the slum of el hatillo and all its surroundings. it will have been hard breaking to me to see the Central University of Venezuela were I studied and got the chance to know a live every day that polarization of quality of life... Thank you for the bottom of my hart for all these videos
Caracas is the ""wealthy"" part of Venezuela. I recommend you visit other places and I guarantee it will be a different experience , the media isn't lying (I'm Venezuelan and I live here)
Nagato Pain You’ve all completely missed the point of the comment. I never meant the media lying - I meant their general perspective doesn’t give us outside viewpoints from locals, so it’s refreshing to see real locals speaking about their experience.
One small difference, though- Yugoslavia had inflation and embargo because by 1993 it militarily attacked three out of six republics who decided to leave the union.
@@@mikevarga6742 I did not mention nor thought about Kosovo. Secession republics were Slovenia, Croatia, plus Bosnia and Herzegovina.Other three are Macedonia (today independent North Macedonia), Montenegro (today independent) and Serbia - today independent. Plus the country was federation, not confederation (official name was Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia). In short - IMO, for better or for worse, nobody wanted to live in Yugoslavia except the military and political elites which started a war rather then negotiate some kind of loose federation or confederation (like UK maybe?).
Important to remember Paris is not all france, London is not all Britain and Caracas is not all Venezuela. But yeah the struggle is still real in caracas. Plus, why is a normal, western way of life considered elite? Its not, it just is compared to others in caracas.
@@IndigoTraveller Appreciate a reply off my favourite content creator. I was implying that Capital Cities usually cant encapsulate the average way of life for those in a country, especially one with vast land mass/population size. Going to the countryside? Nice! I didnt catch that. But again its important to remember you cant summarise/form an opinion of a country with a humanitarian crisis by focusing on its capital and the countryside. As a source of information, you are more important than you think. You are not corporate media and thankfully you are not that scumbag Maduros government media. Abby Martin pretends to be you. Shes not. Shes a shill. Thankyou thankyou thankyou, you brave man.
Because everything is relative. If you are that rich in a country in which people are literally starving and have mostly been illiterate up to the 1990s it should.make you think where all that money goes.
My whole Childhood I have been in Venezuela and I know every single place you had went to and it reminds me of the happiest times I had spent there being happy. Thank you so much. Keep the episodes up😭
The suffering saddens me but all the same, I appreciate your efforts to showcase an objective, realistic view of such a complicated situation without bias. Extremely well done friend.
Honestly, I have nothing to say but, you did an awesome job showing my country. Thanks for putting this out there! Thanks goddess nothing bad happened to you. You just earned a subscriber! 🔥☺️
Indigo Traveller I’ve been in the states for almost two years (of course without visiting my country again and your series are the only videos I’ve seen that actually show how Venezuela it’s like, hope you enjoyed it🇻🇪
Hi, great work trying to show the reality like you say "Nothing More, Nothing Less". I'm a Venezuelan who had to leave the conutry because i couldn't support my family earning almost 20 usd a month even with an engineering job. (Crazy i know). I'm waiting for your next videos because to get the whole picture of Venezuela you have to visit the other regions. The goverment makes an effort to keep things "calmed" in Caracas so people don't rebel. Venezuelan history has prooved that Caracas takes goverments out of the power. Sadly nowadays the high rank military are corrupt, at least the ones that still support the goverment and in most cases people feel discouraged to continue protesting against the goverment (There have been several injured and deaths during the protest in past years). In short, thanks for the Videos Nick.
From my point of view Rich people is most likely too stay rich, poor people is most likely to stay poor. Eventhough everybody is affeced, The middle class will tell you the real magnitude of this crisis.
Yes, we are sufferimg, well, most of the population is. I was blessed by god to be a normal kid living with my very nice family, in a private school, but I still look at the people from my country suffering, I pray everyday for everybody in this country that is struggling. -Roquejo(Venezuelan living in Venezuela)
joe chaz You’re treating poverty as if it was a competition? Yes, there is poverty in other Latam countries as well, that doesn’t make Venezuelan crisis less severe. In this specific video they are visiting one of the richest parts of the city. Of course you’re not going to see everyone there dying of malnourishment (which does happen regularly in the rest of the country). Also, every country has it’s own political history, their situations aren’t the same. What’s happening in Venezuela right now isn’t happening in the rest of Latam.
@joe chaz Excuse me, but I think you should stay here for a couple of weeks and see if it is as bad as the other latin american countries. Those fat people you are seeing, should surely be corrupt politics. You gotta see things from the inside before giving such a delicate oppinion.
I just find it so sad that these things are happening in the world while people in power just sit and watch! Thank you so much for showing this issue to the public Nic, if it wasn’t for you, I along with many others would not know the extent of this! 👍
Brad Smith honestly, at this point I don’t know what they can do to fix it. But early on if they did something to stop it, then maybe it would not have escalated to the extent it is at now
They have to reforming their government. But the problem is, some people wouldn't agree with that and they'll try to stir the situations. If you want to compare to Greece, you can't. You literally can't do anything to country with authoritarian regime rules.
I got to say, the editing on your videos is some of the best I’ve seen for this type of content. Superb job! I have been watching all your older content...love it!
Hey, Nick, now I've saw all your videos about Venezuela and I would like to talk with you about some things that Lenny didn't explained (I'm a sociologist). It's pretty cool that people from other countries like you get interested in the venezuelan situation and come to show it to the world. I got to thank you for doing that, please, be safe.
Again, brilliant episode on Venezuela. Hope you pass through Barquisimeto area where we will be later this year. Really appreciate your honest opinion and storytelling. Very insightful and inspiring. Best, James
@@IndigoTraveller You should've at least attempted to brush up on basic political science and the actual realities of what is happened there. Your ignorance shone through in the last video with the pictures of Lenin et al. Very one-sided and I thought your guide was pretty demeaning to the pro-gov citizens behind their back. The guy was clearly very partisan. Good effort though! All the best.
@@supercucho12 Demeaning was probably too harsh a word. I just felt he was fairly patronising when it came to him explaining why that community would support the Bolivarian government. He didn't ask them for their opinion, just quickly denounced them as being blind followers of "mass control". It would have been very easy for him to say that they support the government because of the millions of free homes and social projects to elevate the power of the poor and give them a voice for the first time. He could have then gone on to give his opinions as to why it hasn't worked and that he is against the government for these reasons. It was very one-sided, despite the whole episode taking place in a pro-government area.

What's a real shame is this country could be potentially thriving! So many tourists would visit and more importantly the great people who have nothing yet still smile could have a much better future. Great work once again from you.
U.S. American here. It's amazing seeing that level of affluence there. It's more money than I can personally ever imagine having. Those mansions... sure, buy one if you can afford it, but no one ever needs to live any place nearly that extravagant.
You are brave for going in there and try to live a “normal” day out. I couldn’t even go out my house because i was terrified to not to come back . Thanks for what you do, thanks for showing the 2 sides of the same coin.
While you may claim you are not a journalist, your impartial attitude is how true journalism should be. Absolutely outstanding videos, edits that are on par or better than a vice documentary. Bravo 👏
We’ve had a lot of Venezuelans come to Ecuador because of lack of food. They couldn’t afford to live at the capital, but couldn’t stay where they are, some even had good government jobs.
They’ve even gone to Guatemala. Especially the women. There’s a lot of Venezuelans who opened up restaurants there. I’m glad the rest of Latin American opened their doors to them even if they’re also having similar issues with violence and poverty. My mother in law is Ecuadorian and has mentioned Ecuador having more violence due to the immigration unfortunately
Zaparolli yeah, in some cities the Ecuadorians have turned against Venezuelans because of rise in crime. I read an article recently that said they’ve even resorted to renting children in order to beg on the street. Personally everyone I’ve met has been nothing but kind and peaceful. One family I’m friends with have gone through quite a bit of struggle getting food and are doing much better since leaving, but you can tell they’re really frustrated with having to find a place they fit in after leaving their home. I really felt for them.
WIKIPEDIA its not really that simple. Sanctions make it a lot harder to trade and receive food. Also, there is food, it’s just expensive because of inflation. There are other countries who feed their people just fine with a more socialist government, but the issues in their country involve mismanagement and we can’t really judge. It’s not like the same issues couldn’t one day happen in a more democratic country.
The BIG catch up starts! Lol I’m further behind than I thought but I do love to watch a full adventure so this works! All I can say is I wish more travel TH-camrs provided the same epic amount of value in their content as you do- you are league above most of them! 😍💪

Also, something that differences you from other youtubers I’ve seen who have visited my country, is that you will actually be showing something out of Caracas, something that others haven’t dared trying yet. Because really, Caracas is a completely different country compared to other states in here, thank you for being truly interested in showing the reality of what we’re living, and showing not only the bad, but also the beauty my country still has. Love, a venezuelan
I'm enjoying watching your videos of Venezuela. I lived there for 1 year 1990-91 on a student exchange program first in Maracaibo then in Puerto La Cruz (Lechería). My host family were from Chile and had left the dictatorship there in the 1970s. They did quite well in Venezuela. The community were we lived had many Lebanese families - presumably they left the civil war there. Venezuelans are such an amazing people and I had such an amazing time there. The political and economic situation they're living now is sad but I'm hopeful things will turn around. When I was there, a $1 would buy you Bs. 40 then slowly crept up to 60 when I left. A can of Polar beer slowly went from Bs. 4.50 to Bs. 10 in 1 year.

Venezuela was the richest country in latin America, and one of the richest on earth (ahead of places like South Korea) but then they turned to socialism. Now they're the poorest country along with Haiti.
Completely idiotic comment. Did you get that from Fox News or CNN? That wealth was in the hands of very few people. The majority of Venezuelans up to the 1990s couldn't even read or write and many lived in slum like conditions. Life was very very good for a small sector of the population that hoarded all that wealth. Most Venezuelans were super super poor. And by the way, Venezuela is not a socialist country. 71% of the economy is in private hands.
If you have 10 people and 9 earn 10k per year and 1 earns $1million per year, then you avg salary is more than 100k per year. But that disregards the fact that 9 out of 10 are poor. It's statistical trickery. The super rich Venezuelans still have their money. They are in places like Miami. They are the ones that are in control of the economy there. Chavez never touched the economic elite in Venezuela.

You've done a great job of showing (what one should expect traveling to Caracas - Venezuela). Of course the day to day living/surviving is very different then the tourist life, however, other videos i've seen are very often one sided where they showed the immense poverty or try to show the Elite side and make it seems like there's nothing really going on in our country (which is normally Political propaganda). Lenny was a fantastic guide and i'm amazed he was able to get you into places where even a regular Venezuelan would not dare walk into like "Petare" much less having filming gear and looking like a foreigner. I wonder if for Lenny's safety he left some details off camera, like who can actually afford the Elite living and what they do to afford the country clubs and or expensive nights out. Great job to you and Lenny. His photography is also great and now i follow you both. Keep it up! hopefully you can go back in a couple years when the government changes and see the Venezuela we once knew and what an Oil rich country is supposed to look like ;)

Did you go to Spain? How is life there?

Heart breaking...
Why did Venezuela accept immigrants from Middle East? Any special reason?
I'm from Maturín, and falafel and Arab restaurants where everywhere... We got a huge Lebanese comunity
@@heilamessy why wouldn't they? Venezuela usually received rich inmigrant families. I've met lots of inmigrants to venezuela in the teme I lived there, hey where from all kinds of backgrounds, but all the inmigrants had one thing in common, they all had MONEY
I thought it is quite strange that middle easterners immigrate to a far away and to a non English speaking country.

I would agree, but check out also Harald Baldr, he an amazing guy too
Venezuela could be the richest latin america country.....if only corruptions and politics are not involve....

This heavily reminds me of Yugoslavia in the hyperinflation days of 1993..
Interesting.

@@IndigoTraveller Appreciate a reply off my favourite content creator. I was implying that Capital Cities usually cant encapsulate the average way of life for those in a country, especially one with vast land mass/population size. Going to the countryside? Nice!
It's crazy there are still some rich people in Venezuela
From my point of view Rich people is most likely too stay rich, poor people is most likely to stay poor. Eventhough everybody is affeced, The middle class will tell you the real magnitude of this crisis.
Rich people can only exist when poor people exist
The only rich people left in venezuela are the allies of the government, the old high class was reduce to middle class or left the country
It's basically just anyone with ties to the oil company which includes military and government... and that's literally it
this was the most interesting country I like to watch, but sadly to see people at there suffer
Yes, we are sufferimg, well, most of the population is.
I was blessed by god to be a normal kid living with my very nice family, in a private school, but I still look at the people from my country suffering, I pray everyday for everybody in this country that is struggling.

joe chaz You’re treating poverty as if it was a competition?

91clarie yes exactly
Brad Smith honestly, at this point I don’t know what they can do to fix it. But early on if they did something to stop it, then maybe it would not have escalated to the extent it is at now
They have to reforming their government. But the problem is, some people wouldn't agree with that and they'll try to stir the situations. If you want to compare to Greece, you can't. You literally can't do anything to country with authoritarian regime rules.

It would have been very easy for him to say that they support the government because of the millions of free homes and social projects to elevate the power of the poor and give them a voice for the first time. He could have then gone on to give his opinions as to why it hasn't worked and that he is against the government for these reasons. We’ve had a lot of Venezuelans come to Ecuador because of lack of food. They couldn’t afford to live at the capital, but couldn’t stay where they are, some even had good government jobs.
Were they the middle class ? The government distributes food/water to the poor. Tell us more !
WIKIPEDIA have you heard of sanctions?

@@wealth53 As an American, but one whose gone beyond and seen for himself the poverty of struggling countries, the US doesn't even compare does it? They have no idea.
@@_captainmagic population of Venezuela 31 million, number of people living in poverty in the USA 39 million. and when you're in poverty in the USA who sends you money from which country?
@@davidck1 Of 31 million Venezuelans, 4 million have left, that's 13% of the population leaving because of the precarious situation. Of the 27 million left, 26 live in poverty, that's 96% of the population. 39 million of US citizens living in poverty is roughly 12% of the entire population. Sorry... but no comparison whatsoever.
Thank you for the video! Never in my whole live did I dared to explore Petare so thoroughly.
This series should be required learning for Americans who take our mixed economy for granted. Thank You for bringing this content to TH-cam!
Keep it up! hopefully you can go back in a couple years when the government changes and see the Venezuela we once knew and what an Oil rich country is supposed to look like ;)
Lol when you said colonization....he was like "I don't know her....." haha
“Ok....black magic”

Your videos truly never disappoint and are an inspiration to travel. It definitely pays to get outside your comfort zone. Thanks for another superb video.
I just discovered your channel (first binged the Nk videos) and I love your channel! I haven’t been able to travel the world for a while like I used to, but I can through your videos. Honestly the best travel channel I’ve come across.
