I have never seen Swamiji at a loss to answer any question. He always has an explanation for even the deepest, most philosophical inquiry. His mind is so sharp and acute! I am so lucky that I live in NY where he is the president of the Vedanta Center - I can go hear him speak several times a week. Jai Swamiji. Thank you for your generosity and teachings.

I am a late comer to Swamiji's lectures which I have started listening to on youtube. In fact I have never been a youtube listener. I feel I have wasted my life in watching and reading politics, biographies and other documentaries that are shown in our national TVs. I never ever realised that you can get so much information and also can listen to classical music by past and present artists. May be my realisation has been a bit too late in my life. But I am amazed at the prodigious knowledge of the Swamiji that is evident in his lectures and his fluency in four languages that he can skit from one to another without any effort. May God give him a long life with good health so that he can awaken the spiritual aspect of our Hindu religion on many more for many years to come.. Thank you Swamiji. You are my Guru and my sincere pranam to you.

Swamiji, I can't thank u enough for bringing us this knowledge of 'who we are", especially thru TH-cam.
However, I have an observation that could be concerning everyone.
You rightly teach that we are Consciousness that illumines the mind and thru our senses produces our experiences. So if the mirror is defective, the reflection too becomes faulty. While the illumining consciousness is pure, the mind that generates the experiences could be or rather in most of our cases impure, thus the pain n suffering.
If the objective of Vedanta is to end our suffering, we got to concentrate on disciplining and cleansing our minds. But in about 25-30 of your Videos I have studied, you end up in explaining who we are and abruptly stop. I even felt that you concentrate more on the source of this knowledge like you introduce the author, you recite the versus, you talk about your Order - while this is good, more than half of the time is spent on this, than the knowledge itself.
Secondly, you say that it is the Subtle body that reincarnates and carries forward the carmic debts, therefore, our focus, I feel, should be on the purification of the mind, thus seek freedom from suffering.
Thank you Swamiji, for touching on this topic in your future videos.

Swami ji , thanks for guiding us towards consciousness.
You always give perfect examples for proving astitva of consciousness .
But a person surrounded by materialistic mind set will seek for materialistic proof.
Will it be proper to ask them to look into proved stories of NDE , REBIRTH . .?
They are investigated by materialistic minds and are derived at the same
conclusion , that there is something indestructible, beyond human life.
Then perhaps it will be 'easy ' to explain unseen, untouchable, etc. Consciousness. ABHIJIT VARTAK.

Then you may be satisfied the space inside the jar cannot be distinguished from the space outside the jar……it is all-pervasive, unborn and unceasing. This is the nature of Awareness and is your True Nature.

      It's because of "Ignorance".
In Vedanta it's said that we all of the beings are born divine.. but, covered in "Ignorance".. we have to torn apart that "Ignorance" and realize the divinity within..hence, who realizes the divinity within, he's liberated from the sufferings himself and sees another person also as divine, irrespective of the next person realizing himself as divine.

Sebastian Carlo It is like a fish in water, which does everything in water and living it's whole life in water asking the question of what is the relevance of knowing water.Similarly you do everything in consciousness , even if you reply back to me you will do it in consciousness. With out consciousness there is no experience.

Yes, I agree. However, why should we strive to know this witnessing consciousness... aka "turiya"....? Why make the effort?

    • @shrirambhandari1463
      @shrirambhandari1463 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Sebastian Carlo The short answer is thatit is what everyone is fundamentally seeking. There are certain fundamental desires from which all other desires are derived. You will 1st have to get present to these fundamental desires. You may ask how do I get present to them. By making the desiring process into a conscious process the way to make it conscious is by finding out why you are having a desire. This is a very ardous task to do since your mind will want to rationalise things away. So you will have to reject all rationalisation at this point and get present to why you are having this desire. Till you get present to this, no matter what you listen to in regards to this subject it is of no use to you.

Yes.. what you say resonates. In the west we're indocrinated into rationalizing everything.. having reasons for doing things.. I presume this is very much the same in the east nowadays. ..... Get past this desire to rationalize it out and I perceive heightened states of awareness/samadhis/turiya etc etc are inherently empowering and beneficial in every way conceivable.... That said, ego has its own momentum due to conditioning and habits.. Probably requires a combination of things to address it.. i.e., dietary upgrades, asanas, pranayama, meditative practices, etc Back to the drawing board! :)

Sebastian Carlo Yes we go through Karma Yoga or any other meditation and so on. The issue is that we get educated and lose originality. The difference between West and East is only that East sees the existence as a circle hence there is life after life and that there are many big bangs that have happened before and so on. With the West it is linear and hence with a definite beginning and end, any Westerner who accepts the circularity of existence is in my opinion an Easterner even though his skin may be white any Easterner who sees a definite end in my opinion is a Westerner even though his skin is black. Hence East and West are only in the convictions of people and not in the Geography necessarily.

Namashkar Swamiji, surely it was one of the illuminating lecture but it has left some actually many doubts in my mind. Only, if someone can help me in clarifying some of it.
If mind is the only thing via which we experience everything and
in deep sleep we cannot even experience the very existence of pure consciousness
then what is that you mean when you say experiencing the pure consciousness.
Who will experience it? If you say, the pure consciousness is the one that
experience itself then who am “I” (the mortal being) to help it to experience it?
Also what is that “I”, (the mortal being) trying to do by trying
to experiencing the “pure consciousness”. Because "I" being mortal will
never be able to experience the “pure consciousness” because what "I" (the mortal being) possess is the “Maya”.
I hope the question has the clarity because I am a lot confused
so may be the question seem a bit hay way! :P
    Thanks.

When you were in deep sleep you did not experienced anything but when you wake up you realised you were in deep sleep. You relaize the existence of deep sleep when you awake. And the relaizesen That existence was consciousness. And for realise your trueself you have to let go all sense organs. You must have to remain zero like not so much happy in happiness not so much sad in sadness not so much excited in excitement only then you can identify your trueself according to geeta. It's just my opinion it can be true or not.
      Peace

In deep sleep you have no experience means you have experience of nothing or experience of blankness . Pure conciousness experiences everything.

Surely am trying to find answer by myself still there is one more thing that I would like to ask.
How can we say that an Advaitan is different from the philosophy of God? What I can sense is it is just trying to give show God using different series of logics but having the same attributes as any other rligion-god has. Both, the other religion's God and an Advaitan's God demand one thing - FAITH. So, if I have faith in some X, Y or Z God or for that matter Pure Consciousness and keeps on persuing it I will have God-experience. So, how is that Advaita offeres something other than what already exists?

Without YOUR presence during the deep sleep, how can you recall, after waking up, that "you were happy; that you did not know any thing then?" The very fact that one recalls the twin-experience, i.e., "the happiness and not-knowing" of deep sleep predicates that what is absent is the reflected consciousness in the mind, and not the "PURE AWARENESS" (SAT-CHIT), which does not rise or set according as we are awake or sleeping. What rises and sets is the "consciousness reflected in the mind". This is because of the fact that the mind gets dissolved completely in deep sleep.
Once, we wake up from deep sleep, the mind (MANAS) with its associates, namely, the intellect (buddhi), ego (ahamkara) and chitta (mind-stuff, which is the faculty that recalls from the past and imagines the future) wakesup simultaneously - not only wakes up, but also goes through the miseries of the waking state. These facts are experienced by every one every day! That is why the Upanishads (Vedanta) declare that "mind alone is the cause of bondage and liberation"! (Amritabindu Upanishad), Regards,

dream is not taken as false when you dream.you take it as false when you wake up.actually you do not sleep at all.you never come to know that you have now started sleeping.on waking up you realise that you were asleep and you had dreamt.who sleeps, the body and mind or consciousness ? await your reply.

Waking, dreaming, deep sleep states are the states of mind. Some acharyas further classify that waking is bodily oriented, dreaming is predominated by mind & causal body predominates the sleeping state. But summarily these three are the states of mind. So during deep sleep mind is not functional or shuts down. Conciousness always remains unaffected, unchanging illuminating, enabling them.
