First of all, the Murciélago has the final descendant of the Bizzarini V12, which traces its roots back to the company's founding. The story goes that Ferrucio Lamborghini told Bizzarini he'd get a bonus for every horsepower over 300 it made. Bizzarini smashed the target by making it rev to over 9000. Lamborghini promptly fired him because the goal was to make something civilized. That engine's insanity, accidental or not, would go on to define the brand. It was replaced when the Aventador came out. Secondly, there's an anecdote which states that in period factory tours, the Gallardo production line was clean, state-of-the-art. Everything fit, everything was organized. Very German. The Murciélago's side was a disaster, with swearing, smashing with hammers to get things to mount, wires and tools strewn everywhere. It in many ways was the last true Italian Lamborghini. (If you want to hear more about these, go listen to the Carmudgeon Show.) Great video, guys.
I’m glad you pointed out that it was the last use of that V12. I already knew that, but I doubt most people seeing this video would know. I’ve heard this one multiple times in person, and the newer one in the Aventador. Both sound great, but I prefer the sound of the older one. It seems to have a higher pitch that reminds me more of the sound of an older 3.5 liter F1 car. I heard one with straight pipes and it was amazing. I was also next to an Aventador SV being reved up. Sounded great too, but lacked that high end musical sound of this one. Of course to each their own.

This was the first Lamborghini that the VW-Audi group had any involvement in, but it was designed largely by the people at Lamborghini, which is why the interior feels less like an Audi and is a bit more industrial, but wrapped in leather. The Gallardo is the one that really showed the most influence from VW-Audi. A lot of people love the Murcielago, but I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the Gallardo.
The best car I've ever driven, is a Murcialago LP640 with the e-gear trans. While it was clunky at low speeds, it was fine when you were moving, and the sheer grip and acceleration was astonishing! So was the sound!!

Loving the reviews of cars at their golden age! ICE and h-shift, with just enough electronics to make things comfortable and allow us to work on the cars ourselves.
I like how James says, "See I know how to buy gifts for my wife" and then a few minutes later Thomas says "Your poor wife". That just made me laugh for a couple minutes.
I saw the first one, or one of the first ones, in Texas in 2002. I actually had no idea Lamborghini were coming out with another model. I was in college, and I stopped following car magazines, or anything online about cars. I was so shocked when I first saw it. WTF is this! It was unlike anything else, never saw a render, nothing, and yet here is this futuristic but subtle super car in front of me. Better than my favorite at the time the Diablo. Eventually I noticed the Lamborghini logo, and when I got home I jumped on the net, but there was very little about it, but enough to confirm. I was so happy and excited!!! Could not wait to see the next one, but it was a while. Best car spot of my life. The ultimate surprise.
All this fun is being replaced by electrification and the endless pursuit of power figures and times most car people don't give a crap about. I'm not a Lamborghini fan but I appreciate what they did this icon Murcielago
The sound work on this video, combined with the editing really works to give a feel for the car. Immersive. It's great on the big AKG copies I have on. You can't say that for every car video out there. I wish for more like that. Great work! Throttle House rules!
There's a white one in parked in the carpark of my condo complex that has been sitting in the same spot for over 10 years, just collecting dust. But it still looks good even with the dust. Amazingly whoever the owner is, is still paying the taxes and registration fees on it. Just not driving it. I park my car next to it when there aren't any "prime" spots available because: 1. it's not going to move so I don't have to worry about door dings 2. It's a scissor door so it's not going to give me door dings IF it moves. Parked next to it, it makes my 911 look like a Beetle.
clearly remember encountering a Lamborghini for the first time in the late 90s in the town I lived in HK. a Black Murcielago revving in a semi-clowsed area only amplified the goosebumps that followed . Literally felt like i got whipped
It looks amazing. And i like the simple color and interior, its not over-the-top crazy looking. It has a refined "class" to it while still being an incredible car nicer than most anything else
I am not a super car kind of guy. I much prefer a rowdy economy cars like subarus, but I will make every exception for a mercy. These things are just amazing!
One of the last great v12's. We will never see anything like this again. This was my poster car when I was a teenager when it first came out. Still looks great.
I remember trying to entertain myself all the way through gradeschool by doodling... This car was what I doodled. Nonstop. I'll never forget trying to draw those curvy things inside the headlights.
When I first saw Christian bale in dark knight coming out of this beast my jaw dropped I also remember grinding for hours in old nfs games just so I can buy the murci and play with it aventator is nice revuelto doesn’t do anything to me in design ( idk I find it like a facelift of the aventator but it sort of looks like a huracan tecnica too ) but murci is just perfect and will always have a special place in my heart
Murcielago is one of the most iconic Lambos. It's wild to think how much a Huracan would smoke this thing though around the track and a straight line though.
Always been a Ferrari fan, always, but the Murcielago is something special. I’ve seen the Murcielago for the first time at the Bologna Motorshow back in 2002, the same year Ferrari brought the Enzo! Unforgettable memories ❤

I hope these guys do the review of lp-640. There is a day night difference between 1st gen and lp-640. The lp-640 is really refined and sound even more crazy
For me the murcielago is peak lamborghini design. I really like the rawness, the clean, brutal design and the insane proportions. All the newer lambos dont look half as good to me. They try too much.
However 😂, I'll have to be financially stable in every sense before purchasing my first supercar or luxury car . The best thing to do with your money is to invest rightly because money left saving will end up with no returns.
the problem is that most don't have the knowledge needed to succeed in a challenging market. Only highly qualified professionals who had to experience the 2008 financial crisis could hope to earn a high in these challenging conditions.
The 10-15% rule is enough - especially if you make even more with multiple streams of income. My investment properties pay for my exotics cars. It's many different things you can do to afford easily and responsibly. You don't need a million cash to afford a cheap 100k car, My first exotic was 100k put down 20k- financed 80k. Then traded up to more expensive cars. Now I have an Aventador, so it's not hard at all, Especially if you are making 20-25k plus a month with little to no debt with multiple streams and assets that produce income.
Another great video! For some reason the camera work & production quality on this one seemed next level. Any chance we could get a behind the scenes on the gear you guys use? You guys consistently have some of the best "mounted on the car" footage of anyone on TH-cam, and I gotta know how you do it. Cheers!
Haha classic song, you must be class of 08. Crazy to think cars like this are going the way of T-Pain. The cars we grew up liking were the last of gas powered cars being pushed to the limits. Lambo, Ferrari, Porsche, the C6 is the last real vette. Camaro came back out in 09. Now it’s soulless hybrid cars and electric cars.
@stopmaverick2 Merci entered production in the middle of 2000. VAG acquired Lamborghini in September 1998, transfered control to Audi in December 1998. It's gonna be a tough sell to convince anyone that the car went from concept to production in less than 2 years.
Loved the look of this car growing up, was my background wall paper on my fat launch model PS3 Home Screen forever. Starting up my PS3 after getting home from first real job and seeing this car appear than starting up COD: Modern Warfare or MGS4 to play into the wee hours of the night was a great time for a 19-21 year old.
The Sound of that V12 ... OMGGGG I would prefer the Lp640 , but any murcielago is my absolute dream car... more than any version of the aventador or Revuelto
I find myself comfortable at 4K RPM in my 06 Murcielago, but the sounds at redline are magnificent! In time you get use to the cockeyed cockpit. There is a little storage pouch behind the drivers seat. 🤣

And man i still think it looks insanely good, if i had the money i'd get one in a heartbeat.
Remember driving this around Honolulu in TDU. Love this thing
I still do to this day😂 TDU was such a good game man I miss it. Thankfully there's a new one coming out this year and if it's any good I shall be buying a new Laptop (my one is 11 years old and shit😂)or a PS5 to play it
Same
Loving the reviews of cars at their golden age!
La-la-lamborghini Mercy!
Mercy mercy me Mercielago!
😂😂 Pusha T's verse btw... 🔥
yo chick shes so thirsty!
yo chick she so thirsty
...yo chick she so thirsty....
I can't remember I've ever seen you so smiling behind the steering wheel of a car. And I have watched almost every video of you for the last 5 years.
"Your poor wife" lmao, savage.
Disrespectful. Tells me something.
@darrellsimpson6966 it tells me that some people, just can't take a joke.
It’s gorgeous. I was standing in a field in the middle of Idaho this week and one ripped past on the highway. The sound was so epic!
😂 "YOUR POOR WIFE!!!!"LMFAO 🤣😅
They are so natural together. It's the best car channel on TH-cam ..... by far.
Every time I’m like, “I wonder if the used market is reasonable for [overlooked car]?” you guys put out a video and ruin my dreams.
Merci is the G.O.A.T. The LP640/670 is by far the best sounding road car ever.
definitely top, but remember, these share planet with the F1, the Hakosuka, the C2 Corvette, the (C30) NSX, and the 991 GT3RS....
@@xavierpanohaya2647 Dude.. none of those are even in the same realm lol.
@@a_s_g_z we´re talking about SOUND, ICYMI.
clearly remember encountering a Lamborghini for the first time in the late 90s in the town I lived in HK. a Black Murcielago revving in a semi-clowsed area only amplified the goosebumps that followed . Literally felt like i got whipped
What a beautiful piece of art
It looks amazing. And i like the simple color and interior, its not over-the-top crazy looking. It has a refined "class" to it while still being an incredible car nicer than most anything else
I am not a super car kind of guy. I much prefer a rowdy economy cars like subarus, but I will make every exception for a mercy. These things are just amazing!
this video is a treat...you honestly can't get enough of a NA V12 that screams loudly
Same thing Legendary Richard Hammond said about the Aventador on Top Gear. He says there is no fear factor that made him feel ALIVE
One of the last great v12's. We will never see anything like this again. This was my poster car when I was a teenager when it first came out. Still looks great.
You guys are world's best; period!
You know the Murcielago is a masterpiece just on James' Face while he's driving, couldn't stop smiling through the gears!
The Murcielago was one of the cleanest and yet still outlandish supercars ever made - and that wing does its absolute best to ruin it.
I really understand why content takes long,it's a work of art when it comes 😭
Murcielago is one of the most iconic Lambos. It's wild to think how much a Huracan would smoke this thing though around the track and a straight line though.
Always been a Ferrari fan, always, but the Murcielago is something special.
I’ve seen the Murcielago for the first time at the Bologna Motorshow back in 2002, the same year Ferrari brought the Enzo! Unforgettable memories ❤
I was so relieved when I saw that they didn't take out the classic shot where James hits his head in the new intro! 😂
The intro, keeping the take, perfection 🤌
“HELMET” James, “HELMET!!!”🤣😂
This car is stunnning from every single angle. Gorgeous.
It was 40 year old engine at the time of this car already. But the greatest of all time.
I love the fact y'all kept the i8 helmet clip in the new intro. You are legends!
I love how they were smiling the whole time they were in the car
i love the new intro. please never get rid of the clip with James and the i8
Now that THE PRESENCE OF A VEHICLE, & THE THEATER OF A VEHICLE....is now in my vocabulary.
Thank you gentlemen, the professionalism and humor has made me a true fan.
👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 STANDING OVATION 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏
I hope these guys do the review of lp-640. There is a day night difference between 1st gen and lp-640. The lp-640 is really refined and sound even more crazy
For me the murcielago is peak lamborghini design. I really like the rawness, the clean, brutal design and the insane proportions. All the newer lambos dont look half as good to me. They try too much.
I love that they always cut from the gauges as soon as it hits about 100km/h, as they continue to add another few thousand RPM
It's a good Friday with a new video from Throttle House!!
The offset pedals and weird angle which you sit at is due to the fat transmission tunnel which is inevitable given the mechanical layout of it.
"Your poor wife" 😂 😂 hilarious
However 😂, I'll have to be financially stable in every sense before purchasing my first supercar or luxury car . The best thing to do with your money is to invest rightly because money left saving will end up with no returns.
yeah that's a good path, focus on a good strategy, relax back and watch it compound within the years. In good time you'll see returns.
the problem is that most don't have the knowledge needed to succeed in a challenging market. Only highly qualified professionals who had to experience the 2008 financial crisis could hope to earn a high in these challenging conditions.
Honestly this cannot be overemphasized, helping people mitigate unforseen circumstances and mistakes .It's always good to have a financial plan,
The 10-15% rule is enough - especially if you make even more with multiple streams of income.
Cheers!
I laughed out loud in a meeting at 17:08 😂
Why would you be watching TH-cam in a meeting? Get your head together man.
@@mediocreman2 it was on in the background and I was muted but my camera was on lmaoooo
All in all, give or take, best supercar ever!Perfect balans of crazyness and usability! It's almost cheap for what it is.
17:07 "your poor wife" haha
They changed the camera angle right at that moment, so they obviously planned it, but still funny.
F355, murcielago, man you r going the perfect way 👏👏👏 gallardo and f348 spider next please!! 360, f430, 458,etc 🙏
The Murcielago is badass!
Now they need to review a Diablo!
Preferably an early one with RWD. Every time you floor it it’s a fight for survival lol
I was listening to T-Pain “can’t believe it” (real ones know) this morning and you guys drop a Murcielago video, ironic af 😂
James forgot the Get Out Helmet.
Also, the boys said Audi a lot, but this car was primarily developed under Chrysler ownership.
It certaintly was not. That was the Diablo. Audi's "1st Touch" was with the last gen 2001 Diablo and they had taken ownership in 98' I believe.
The Murciealago in dark knight makes this car officially the batmobile.
Especially since "murcielago" in Spanish actually means "bat"
Least favorite appearance of the car weirdly enough
The Sound of that V12 ... OMGGGG
I would prefer the Lp640 , but any murcielago is my absolute dream car... more than any version of the aventador or Revuelto
Now, that's a gear lever !
Orchestra of cylinders! The trumpets and flutes!
Ahh, your poor wife. Absolutely killed me! 😂😂
Your videos are all so cinematic, it's awesome!!!
lol at the poor wife comment!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I find myself comfortable at 4K RPM in my 06 Murcielago, but the sounds at redline are magnificent! In time you get use to the cockeyed cockpit. There is a little storage pouch behind the drivers seat. 🤣
I think the Murcielago is the best Lamborghini ever. Not "for its era", but in absolute terms.
...especially with those aesthetic mods.
You had me going until the ... and then I KNEW you were pulling my leg.
@@cbotten106 What's wrong with those mods? They're reminiscent of the LP-670SV.
@@jorehir I kind of like the original without the frippery. But they do indeed evoke some of the later hotrod versions.
