    Jesse, I'm impressed how you turn these pieces of crap, broken down machines into money makers... You are a throw back to the days when most men did what you do now... Just proves what a jewel you are... A diamond in the rough... You will be/are successful like few are today... Long time follower... Lots to learn watching you go at it... I hope we can continue this relationship for years to come... Dave

    Hi Jesse
    Love your can do attitude and your philosophy of bestway ,there are several haters viewing your channel these days and some of their comments are very aggresive in a negative way with opinions that give me the idea they may be a bit jealous and see your plans as "I wish I had done that "but they do not want to admit they neither had the skills or the balls.
    We do not want to see new machines arriving from the dealer and all the negatives that brings with all of the environmental rules for them,your make it work style is entertaining and stimulating it also puts people in reach of their goals which they could'nt achieve otherwise.
    Keep it up and good luck to you and your family,that includes your faithful brothers.

    Hey Jessie, I'll just add my gratitude to everyone else's for sharing their experience with this bucket. You have some awesome skill and I'm always impressed with how brave you are. I like hearing your thought process but I did want you to know you never have to justify how you make things work. You've shown over and over again that you're careful and thoughtful about how you do things. You use science and engineering principles that you've picked up through all your various study and reading. You remind me of my father who was a farmer but was willing to tackle almost anything because a lot of times in the past he had to. None of his welds could be considered world-class but he built lots of tools and equipment that he used all his life and nothing he built ever failed him in a way that would hurt somebody. You have the same approach that I saw him use all those years. There's no need to worry about what any of us out here in the internet think. Proof is in how well your refurbished equipment and other things work. And in my view they work very well.

    • @jmuller86
      @jmuller86  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thanks for the feedback. Trial and error are sometimes the best test's. I immediately put this machine to work on the hardest thing I could find, digging pure rock. Maxing out that bucket cylinder most of the time, and it works well. Like your father, sometimes you just have to try it, as long as it is not something that will get someone hurt

      @@jmuller86 Total of 45 deg bevel on is enough. Typically you would like to have 23 deg bevels on both plate edges. That is how it is done in industry. And X-bevel is top notch (23 deg bevel on each plate edge).

    That's why as a welder all my life I have never changed from my cutting torch for cutting steel. Ya I picked up a small plasma for cutting stainless an aluminum. But with a cutting torch you can cut any thickness steel most I have cut is 6" thick. But I have landed really long pins out with it an brake tubing.. Just by changing a $12 tip. Glad to see you made the right chose to weld that up with stick 7018 an not no production mig that just dont have the penetration and burning power or tensile strength

    • @jmuller86

      yea you can cut some serious steel with a torch. I have one, just barely use it

    • @tiredoldmechanic1791
      @tiredoldmechanic1791 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The problem with a torch is you always run out of one gas or the other. With the cost of renting tanks, it gets expensive to keep a spare and you always seem to run out of gas when the welding supply is closed. It also depends on how far you are from the supplier. I'm within 5 miles of my supplier but it still kills 30 minutes to get a tank. My local supplier isn't open on the weekends so you have to get their between 7:30 and 4:30 on a weekday.

    A few years ago I bought a 70 amp plasma cutter from Banggood to do the larger stuff my 45 wouldn't do. As long as you have a circuit that will take the 60 amp load ( I actually put a 70 amp breaker and #4 wire in to feed mine and it works great). I also ordered an extra long lead for my torch and put in a much longer ground as well which gives me a thirty foot circumference between the shop outlet and any project. Also made up a #4 extension cord of thirty feet just in case I need to get a bit closer. At the time the unit was the upgraded version of the "cut 40" units. I can't complain it eats 1" cleanly and will cut larger. Cost just about $250. Still going strong. Did take about six weeks to arrive. The consumables are more expensive than the normal 50 amp and less and a bit harder to find. Getting easier to find and I bought a bunch from Banggood at the time so it is not a worry.

    I made a quick coupler for my mini excavator . The holes in my buckets weren't spaced exactly the same which didn't really matter before but with the quick coupler they needed to be the same . My fix was to make a short link on the back so it could be adjusted to fit and a draw bolt tighten it down . works pretty good . Don't know if that would work in your case.

My whole perspective on weld strength changed when Andrew did that lift test with just a tiny bit of weld holding two parts together. Mind blowing. Well done, as usual, Jesse. Would love to see you spray a little paint on those weld areas so they rust a bit slower in the weather.

Hank from Hamiltonville Farms keeps running into abandoned excavators in the woods in Florida and salvages them and sells them pretty cheap to folks who could use them. Seems to have found a couple of Kebelco's recently that guys have just walked away from or just stopped using and really just get Hank to remove them with Wyle [great channel]. Anyway, he's worth watching and is very approachable regarding equipment a young fella like you could use. Worth keeping an eye on. :-) He chats back and forth with Matt from Diesel Creek and even showed up with a tractor for Scott the Bus Grease Monkey who'd moved to Tennessee and built a shop in the woods there [cool channel as well]. :-)

    Can you attach some sort of cage or bars to protect the glass?

    You should weld a bushing of some sort to the front bucket pins instead of the bead of weld on the quick coupler

    I call that quick coupler "a poor man's rotator" when you can get a bucket on backwards.

    I’ve run into problems with a hydraulic cylinder moving whatever its hooked to father than needed. I don’t know if this will work on the cylinder that moves the bucket into the glass. I’ve made split rings whatever thickness it needed and put around the cylinder shaft so it bottoms out to stop the travel of said cylinder.

    A guard across the cab that you have to look through...should protect the glass.

    Now the real question is how did you get the Quick attach levers on your skid to be so effortless,

    To build up the locking dogs, i would have used 4112 or 4113 rods, less penetration into parent metal but smoother and softer finish.

    Jesse make sure you rate the seller especially if you haggled on the price...that stuff may seem trivial but many depend on those ratings/reviews etc.
