      bad experiences with doctors drive people into this rabbithole of altmed quackery. My wife has extremely painful periods and endometriosis, been through dozens of gynos and stacks of cash, to no avail. So next step was tiktok and dietary therapies. So far little success, except for money leaving the account, these people also charge quite a bit for their advice. Dietary supplements ain't cheap either.
      This is especially common with women, where doctors are often like -take birth control pill and get a hike. They don't care about 1000-word essays in side-effects section of those and about bad morphology results that will be even worse after the pill.
      I don't recommend going into the rabbithole, but I can't blame them. They have a problem, nobody cares to resolve it, they turn to somewhere else.

    • @br1ghts0ng
      @br1ghts0ng หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Honestly I kind of get why they would do that. Not defending them, it’s obviously wildly irresponsible and ignorant, and trusting your child’s life on some unaccredited fella’s word is just so dumb. But I can’t help but empathize with the parents watching their parents grow up with this chronic condition that will certainly be a huge difficulty for them and the child financially (considering crazy insulin costs, though this might be an America-specific mindset) and emotionally, and wanting any kind of solution to fix it. Suddenly, a charismatic snake oil salesmen promises you the solution to your problems, and it’s so easy. Then comes the placebo effect, washing away the symptoms briefly until the facade vanishes and it’s too late. This doesn’t acquit them of guilt, of course. But I get it.

      The perfect example of the last kinda people that should never become parents. They’re so dangerously stupid they let their own child die just by refusing to consistently give him life sustaining medication. I doubt the prescriber recommended that.
      Imo that’s the exact kinda situation child services should interfere with completely, and an example where I think drs should be able to break confidentiality, since this is a young child’s life and such an extreme and obvious example of negligence. It’s possible though that they never even informed the dr, and just stopped seeing them. Sadly, this kinda astounding level of dangerous stupidity isn’t uncommon in people and parents, especially in the US nowadays.

    Being a type 1 diabetic, the thought of just not taking your insulin anymore because you resolve yourself to it is absolutely insane. For those that don't know what it's like, you start to feel more and more thirsty and nauseous, until your head spins and you vomit, once every 30 minutes or so, assuming your drinking enough water to keep something coming back out, and you better. Rather quickly (over a few hours), your arms, hands, and especially legs and feet, start to tingle and eventually almost sting. Later, the tingle and following pain spread into your face and man meat if applicable, and a little bit in your abdomen (the skin/muscle not underneath). When you touch your skin, it's as if the outside layer of your skin isn't your skin anymore - it's likely just the dead layers of skin becoming thicker and thicker, or the nerves being dead/numb. The sting really does feel like pins and needles, and the only thing that will help is insulin. Your vision starts to get blurry and it's very hard to focus on anything in particular. By this point, you have vomited so many times that every time you vomit your entire body is wringed like a towel and your stomach feels like it's going to come out on it's own next.
    You probably won't lose your feet to amputation because you'll likely die before then if you are this resolved to not accepting treatment. The glucose level in your blood is far beyond levels that are toxic, and it's practically a syrup. There's not enough insulin to allow for your cells to accept the necessary glucose into their cell walls to be used, so your body burns fat storages which release ketones, turning your more blood acidic, and you die of exhaustion and dehydration from constant vomiting and inability to retain water. Your body will ramp up the process as the insulin depletes closer to 0. The entire time, the only moments of relief come from a few minutes of near unconscious exhaustion after you throw up the water you drank over the last 20-30 minutes.
    Then there was a kid who didn't know what was happening to his body because of his parents stupid decision....

    • @bgeniij
      @bgeniij หลายเดือนก่อน +283

      You left out the shortness of breath and agonizing chest/abdominal pain, but yeah, that sounds about right. Like dying of thirst, hunger, suffocation, and food poisoning all at the same time.
      Quick correction regarding the physiology: it's not the high glucose levels that kill in this situation, but rather the acidosis caused by the excess ketone bodies produced as the body rapidly burns fat to sustain itself since the cells are unable to use glucose for energy; basically, your body eats itself so quickly it turns your blood to acid, because diabetes is metal as hell.

      I'm t1d as well, and I'm just baffled that the parents somehow thought it was working. There's going to be a very obvious correlation between the kid's last dose of insulin and the increase in his BG. It happens quick, but definitely not instantly, so you'd think they'd see his symptoms start and go back to the insulin. It's suspicious at best that they couldn't put two and two together there.

    As a parent, how TAF do you just watch your child die from type 1 diabetes? My granddaughter was just diagnosed this summer, and her symptoms were rapid weight loss, lethargy, brain fog, and she had bruises all over her body. We legitimately thought she had leukemia or lymphoma! And, we were told that we caught it relatively quickly! Her glucose levels were between 500-700 when we went to the doctor. They told us that they generally see levels well over 1,000 when kids are brought in for the first time. That little boy would have had even more severe symptoms than Lillie. I certainly hope the parents were charged with negligent homicide.

      I work in the ER and saw a poor little kiddo who went into DKA (this was before his dx I believe) and his glucose was 1200!!! He seriously looked like he was about to die, I couldn't wait to get him out of my exam room (I do medical imaging im not a physician, I wanted to make sure that poor boy was around doctor). They ended up life flighting him to a pediatric hospital nearby. I don't understand how the parents let their kid decline like that until the point of death.... It's so obvious how ill they are, and it's not like an aneurysm where you just drop down dead. They had more than enough time to get help.

    • @crispyblack8779
      @crispyblack8779 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @ it’s actually kinda sneaky for quite a while, honestly. A lot of the symptoms kind of mimic other things, until the pancreas stops making insulin all together, then they crash fairly quickly. My Granddaughter had joined a running team, so we attributed the weight loss to that. It wasn’t until she started getting really tired and bruising easily that we panicked. Her glucose was at 700, and she was in dka. They told us that we caught it fairly quickly. But, these parents just ignored all of that and let their baby die. They should never get out of prison.

      You are talking like it will cure her they also cause bunch of side effects in long term but yeah she needs to manage those diseases until death if she only take drugs although especially for schizo they get things under control cant say same for bipolar.
      Despite this she needs to take her medicine tho being end up in psych facility probably traumatised her god forbid how many drugs they pump into her system that will make her even worse in the future(People who admited into psych facilities tend to have increased risk of alzheimers,parkinsons and other neurodegenerative diseases plus some other nasty stuff so yeah those drugs sucks). I am a doctor and have bipolar btw so I have first hand experience.
      She should take the drugs plus do a gut diet, it is specifically good for neurological diseases due to gut-brain axis. There are people who treat schizo attacks just with cutting gluten but most people need more through diet and elimination diet afterwards. Disease may not completely go away too but studies show it is effective at managing them specifically for depression attacks,autism and schizophrenia. If she gets better maybe she can lower her drugs or if lucky cut them completely after taking diseases under control. Try to comprimise with her. Saying she runaway from treatment and issues are stupid especially when she has bipolar and schizo avoidence and paranoi is part of the disease. Find a good functional doctor and psychiatrist. And try to be empathic about this because drugs are terrible but facilities are even worse. Medical stuff tend to traumatise patients especially if it is a mental issue since abuse is not uncommon in medical sectory.

      @@CrystalRose1111I can't stand when people do this. Laughing at dark humor or something jarring like that doesn't mean you're sadistic or messed up in the head. Humor is born from surprise, things happening in an absurd way. If someone gets stabbed in public or shot, nobody will laugh. But if, say, someone died by mistaking Plutonium for butter, then we'd laugh at the absurdity. A situation like this one is something in the middle. It's a very absurd death, being killed by slap therapy. Stop making people feel like they're horrible for laughing at things you might not find funny. The laugh isn't a cruel "haha they died" laugh, it's a "what the heck how" laugh. Even so, the original comment wasn't laughing. Saying that people are detached for making jokes around death is disgusting. I'd like you to think about yourself for a moment. Have you ever laughed at a cat falling in a video? Or any slapstick for that matter? According to your own rules, pretty much every comedian or scriptwriter is exceptionally detached. If anything you're the one who seems detached, you're judging a person's entire character around like twenty words and calling them detached. Before calling people horrible for making a joke in the comments, check if you're being respectful in your own comment.

There's a reason why we have the medical system we have because while its not fool proof or convenient it is also what works better than slapping, if not the best we know. While I believe you may have a point, I don't believe it takes away from the fact that most these people couldn't think for themselves correctly for one reason or another, which I believe is the bigger problem and therefore should be highlighted for what it is, rather than some blind sympathy.

      I also have friends & family who have Long COVID and ME/CFS, and it's actually commonplace for that to get treated with graded exercise therapy, even though that's proven to make the illness *worse*. I worked at a food packaging warehouse (I won’t get specific). There was a young woman, about 20yo. She was doing great, getting praise from her supervisor, got a raise and promoted to machine operator. Her first month she was killing it every day.
    Someone from an MLM talked her into stopping her medication and to buy her products instead. She was a severe manic depressive and bipolar.
    She was convinced that she didn’t need her medication anymore.
    Suddenly she couldn’t remember how to do her job and started talking gibberish. HR told her that if she didn’t go back to taking her medication then they would have to let her go. She was so convinced about what this woman said about it working that she refused to go back on her medication.
    She ruined what could have been a good career because some b1tch wanted to make money.
    People are sick, how can you live with yourself after doing something like that to somebody?
    The last I heard of her was that she gave birth to a stillborn and wouldn’t let anyone take it away for about 5 days while in the hospital. They kept her there that long because they were concerned about her mental state. She was still refusing her medication. I don’t know what happened after that.

    I have a story to tell about this, I live in Costa Rica, a country that a lot of Americans like to vacation.
    I went to Puerto Viejo and I just happened to also stay in the same hotel as a self described "Guru" that was teaching to a couple of Asian americans how "Clean off their bad vibes" and saying stuff like "Japan has healthier people because they use a different frequency in their outlets" and that "In World War 2 they had to bomb Japan to hide this".
    They went to the hotel pool after the speech and the guy began to sell some business model to this couple and saying stuff like how his therapy helps in sex, that Costa Rica has a high life expectancy because they do X and Y, and their food, that he doesn't consume Coca-Cola and that he is vegan and the 5G and Wifi was killing us, absolute buffoonery.
    Over the course of the 2 days I stayed in the Hotel I saw how this couple was buying literally whatever he was asking so he could Enlighten them. They payed for his hotel and fancy dinners at insanely expensive restaurants. I was baffled that they could listen for hours to this malarkey and not bat an eye that this might be a scam.

      @ notice I said “free at the point of use”
      What do you think “at the point of use means” exactly? Of course it’s paid via taxation. It is however pretty much equally available to everyone regardless of their level of contribution into the system.
      The US pays roughly twice as much as a percentage of GDP with societal health outcomes which definitely do not reflect such an expense.
      There is plenty to criticise when it comes to our healthcare but it’s leagues ahead of the system in the US. We have never had diabetics rationing their insulin here like you get in the US. Which is why Charlie talking about healthcare costs isn’t as relevant to this case. Insulin is roughly 8x more expensive in the US compared to the UK. Those on benefits don’t pay any prescription fees at all.
      Not to mention health insurance doesn’t exist at all here. The stories we hear of Americans being denied treatment due to the tiniest of loopholes and ending up in bankruptcy is harrowing. It’s literally one of the leading causes of personal bankruptcy in the US. Unheard of anywhere else in the developed world.

      I feel like there's definitely people who turn to alternatives because of cost, but even more people who turn to it because they tried standardized medicine and it failed them (ie, doctors can't figure out the cause of their suffering, offered an incredibly unpleasant solution such as daily injections for life, or gave a solution that actually made a new and worse problem appear). I've seen all three in the US, so maybe it happens in the UK too? I'm glad that cost isn't nearly as much of an issue for y'all, but people still find a way.

    Speaking as a healthcare practitioner, there is actually some positive benefit to slapping in that when your tissues receive an impact like this it releases nitrogen oxide which causes vasodilation and promotes blood flow to that area. That being said most of the increased blood flow will be to your skin but the surrounding tissue will get a small increase as well.
    Keeping all that in mind this isn't going to fix damn near anything by itself, especially endocrin problems (diabetes), bacterial or viral infections, etc..
