This is why, in this case, you have to go name brand, more expensive. The official litter robot has weight sensors that can even sense a change in weight as small as a single scoop of litter. It won’t spin until it senses the weight is gone and has been gone for a certain amount of time. It stops spinning as soon as it senses weight changes, including a cat stepping one paw on the step or even clumps shifting in the machine. The way it spins makes it highly unlikely, if not impossible, for it to kill a cat, much less even hurt one. I have a litter robot and it works very well and is very safe. Everything I’ve written her is from experience of watching it work.

Really shows how far bootleggers are willing to go to cheapen the knockoff products they make. Absolutely disgusting. Theres no way they extensively tested this with a cat, anything to do with live animals needs to check EVERY possibility. Don't just blame the sensors not seeing the cat, blame the fact the door has enough force to trap and hang a cat. Blame the fact that this device you expect a cat to go in and out of MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY has any possibility to trap that cat. I don't know how the litter cleans itself but surely it would be safer to risk a cat jumping into it but being able to jump straight out too, than completely enclose the whole thing.

Here’s the story for that one. The 13 year old girl was at home, mom at work or wherever. She calls mom in a panic, her kitty’s head is stuck and she can’t get it out. Mom looks at the picture and can tell it’s too late for the cat. Mom couldn’t get there in time, so she calls the Police and they go to the house and make the girl wait outside while they free the cats body, and try to calm the girl down. The sad part is she had gotten her kitty like 4 weeks ago, and followed the seller’s recommendation about weight. Then this happens. That poor kid dude. Uugh, how awful.

I mean... If they live in an area with cats, or other small animals, I am 100% certain the kid's seen roadkill before. Especially with the US's obsession with 4+ lane roads... At 13, the concept of death should be understood, either via the death of a pet, family member, etc.
It would be disturbing yes, but not life-changing disturbing, to find the cat dead, at that age. If anything, it would foster mental fortitude.
Now, to see and hear it happening... that's another story. Jesus christ. Holy shit.
My cat already sounds like he's dying when I accidentally step on his paw, I do not even want to imagine what a cat sounds like when it's actually dying. In fact, I refuse to even try.

The plushie demonstration actually made me feel sick. There is no conceivable way they ever even tested this product at all. I can’t even imagine how you could try first aid on an animal after being stuck in this thing
Note: ignore the bot please. I’m pretty sure it makes it worse and I don’t want my notifications flooded 🙏

I'm assuming this is because they would then be liable for injury during animal testing.

No matter how much money the company gives. If they killed my cat, them i'm going to sue the heck out of them.

Unfortunately, the company that makes or outsources these cat-killing machines keeps re-branding whenever they're caught and called out for their bullshittery, so suing them is extremely difficult.

That test with the cat plushie was...horrifying. I don't even have a pet, but to see your cat go out is such a effed up way...damn.

As someone who comes from generations of lifetime cat owners and someone who works in the pet service industry, this is actually horrific and I can't even comprehend the trauma of experiencing this. I can't believe safety precautions were passed over like this. I've been hesitant about moving to auto litter boxes and yeah, I'll stick to traditional. Thanks for using your platform, Charlie. This is so important for owners to know.

The real litter robot machines this Chinese company is ripping off are very safe. There's not really a way for the cat to get hurt in it realistically. I wouldn't expect a random Chinese shell company on Amazon to follow safety regulations.
They're basically a big sphere with two openings: a big one in the front for the cat to get in and out, and a small chute on the top to remove the soiled litter. When it runs, the sphere rotates and the litter is sifted through a grate into a little pocket leaving the soiled litter on the grate. When the sphere rotates enough, the chute is over the collection tray and the soiled litter slides into the chute. Then the sphere rotates back around and levels the clean litter before resetting. There are weight sensors that start the cycle timer or pause the cycle when the cat gets into it. They can easily get out whenever they need to. I got one years ago and it's been fantastic. Both my cats had no problem using it.

I have 2 cats, an elderly boy named Mahal (my sisters) and my own 2 year old named Jack Sparrow… I can’t imagine the pain I’d feel if I walked into that. What’s worse is that I almost bought one of these off amazon for Jack (Mahal wouldn’t be able to climb in as his bones are weak and he’s having trouble walking) but he didn’t fit the weight limit as he’s a British shorthair, which can get almost to the size of a Maine Coon… he’ll peek into the litter box and stare for a straight 5 minutes… this definitely would’ve taken my baby’s life. The tests and simulations made me bawl my eyes out. These poor kittens didn’t deserve this. I hope the company owners end up in the same situation they put Mochi and Charlie in. Rest in peace to these 2 beautiful babies.
