  • Summer is behind us and the cool morning of Autumn have arrived. The swales need maintenance in readiness for the water catchment season of winter and spring. A few surprises were found including tree saplings of oak, willows and fruit trees. The eco system has really started with the small yabbies, frogs and abundant bird life.

Watching you working on your swales and finding the yabbie holes I kept thinking "Build it and they will come" which should be the motto of Fat Cow Farm.

Looks great! The little bridge might be slowing down the water and collecting debris, don't you think? Hard to tell from the video.

Hey Max, the clearance under the bridge is fine, the issue I have is aquatic plant growth clogging the swale. Its a first world problem I know however a good sign for the swale health. Cheers

Thanks Gwenn! I'll keep my eyes open. Im not a fan of snakes and was happy that they were yabbie holes. Take care.

is your swale perfectly level if you have a water environment at one end and a grass environment at the other?

Hey Jim, The swales are really close to level. The grass build up over time though was causing issues with flow to the far end of the swale.
