I'm also here from the Shifting Metal 2.0 podcast...Really enjoyed your appearance on there Rob and thought I'd like to hear more from your side of the car selling market... I'm so glad I did and here's to your next video...Good work Rob...👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hey Neil! Thank you, I really appreciate those kind words, thank you for coming across. Anything you would like to know just shout out, happy to do you a video ☺️☺️
Just subscribed after James at chops garage mentioned Logbook on a podcast with Joe. Love the honesty and I think you’re probably right. James at chops garage punches above his weight as a one man band.
New subscriber here following your joint podcast with Joe, James and Dave on Joe's channel Shifting Metal 2.0. I'm sure your subscriber numbers will shoot up now. Might help with that house purchase you have planned!
Thank you for the Sub! Fingers crossed it all comes off, about time!! Those guys are great fun and a credit to the industry nice to be a part of their podcast. Really appreciate it and thank you for the kind words. ☺️
Great video Rob. I personally like this type of video you do, it's good too see how car deals affect the dealer and getting your perspective on it is great to see. We've all been guilty of dropping a lemon off to a dealer before and claiming its been a real gem, I won't do it again I promise 😬👌🏻
As long as you promise then that’s okay 😂😂 thank you Chris, I really appreciate the feedback and am glad you enjoy it. As Albert Einstein once said. “For as long as there will be men, there will be rubbish part exchanges” or something like that!
@thelogbookcc A very wise saying! Although if memory serves it was from Aristotle🙂 My shame came from taking my wife's old focus (purchased before I was on the scene I might add) to a WeBuyAnyCar place so in essence I feel slightly exonerated 😀. Keep up the good work mate, you've got a very good business there which youve worked bloody hard for with some excellent stock. I'm keeping an eye out for an F Type on a few different car dealer stock lists and yours is one of them, just got yo persuade the wife 😬😀
Thank you, I really appreciate that 😊 A good dealer is half the battle with second hand cars. They go wrong, that’s what they do. Dealers come to the party if they are worth their salt. Glad you’re enjoying the vids 😊
I absolutely love your videos, as I do High Peak, Shifting Metal, Chops Garage etc, No major feelings to be a car dealer, but go my god, you guys put up with some shit! Respect to you all.
I took on my mortgage back in the day, supported by used cars (!) paid it off now, all those cars taking a few hundred out of each one for 25 years, or maybe not even a few hundred, every car I sold I'd take a bit out to pay the mortgage, did it a bit earlier by paying extra, 1000s of cars since the mid 90s.
Just subscribed on the back of the podcast. Sure you don’t want to hear this but any prestigious car over 10 yrs old is a dashboard warning light just waiting to light up your life. A 10 yr old RS6 can look immaculate inside and out and can sound great but the reality of any 10 yr old car is things are going to start going wrong imminently most probably in the first 3 months of purchase which leaves you with the headache particularly if they are used as a daily driver. My advice is to aim to have a business with cars 5 yrs or younger ( particularly the prestige end) 3 yrs is the sweet spot. Take care and look forward to following your journey
Thank you for the subscription. Really appreciate it! You don’t have to warn me mate, I know, I know all too well! Sadly, all cars are rubbish now, luck of the draw and how you deal with it that counts! Really appreciate you joining me for the journey thank you 😊
Here from the Podcast, interesting watch - I guess you have to take the rough with the smooth but Christ it must be hard getting shafted like this. Hopefully a minor blip and then onwards and upwards. ❤ thanks for the videos and podcasts!
How have you not even got 1k subs ??!! Thats going up with a few more podcast apps, was happily wrenching on my t5 2.5 tdi listening to that today then came across your channel.
Oh Paul I love that picture of you spannering away mate listening to podcasts. That’s what it’s all about! Just hit 1k now so hopefully we will keep some momentum, really enjoy sharing my experiences so nice to have you onboard. Good luck with the T5!
I work in the retail sector for not cars but Garden Machinery, and yes, that 20% too are a pain in the ####. Life's too short to be miserable, but they seem to thrive off it...
Great content , got here from Joe podcast, car trading is hard and difficult same on our side running a pubs hard piece of bread and butter people think everyone makes sh… loads of money every day without worries all the best ❤
Ran the workshop at a main dealers and did the testing; could never understand sales valuing px's without our checking them first. They would have a full prep done, I would test and then they would discover they were in for a whole lot of un planned expense; a few turned out to be cut and shuts. Got through a few sales managers!
Im from australia. Trade in are what most people with shitty cars do. Yes you have good lease vehicle tarded in but alot of private shit. I did the game in my 20s then got out to be a nurse. We have the statutory warranty period which means we have to cover anything and everything for 3months which is hard if a motor blows.
Well G-Day mate to you! Thank you for the comment. Interesting to know that’s the rules over there, I had no idea. Sounds like you’ve escaped to a far more rewarding job, good on you and I hope it’s all going well out there in the sun ☀️
@@THELOGBOOKUK google "qld dealer statutory warranty" just make sure Google is aus. I still hustle a few privately you can't get it out of the blood did it since 15. It's always interesting to see how others get on with this business.
I retired just over a year ago from the garage / car sales business. Despite earning nothing post covid there are still times when I have the urge to go back - then I have a look at channels like yours - smile and go back to sitting in the garden with a glass of wine! What drove me over the edge? Those 5% of car buyers who were completely and utterly unreasonable. To them - a plague on their houses!
I've got a similar thing on a cheap volvo v70, 1 owner, fsh, 61 plate, 175k miles, a grand under autotrader, so 2350 (!) we serviced it and motd it, a nice car, guy came paid on his credit card, now 5 weeks later he's claiming on section 75 as the oil level warning message has come on, unfortunately no dip stick on those so we put it maybe a bit too much or maybe a bit too little, he's 300 miles away, now it's off to volvo(!) for a (again) oil change and a new parcel shelf as the one with the car won't clip in, like you next thing is a full volvo inspection, absolutely crazy on a decent car at 2 grand and 175k miles and he's confirmed it drives great, I can see a charge back for 100% of that cars money coming in...
The job doesn't get any easier does it! BMW main dealers are looking at it to make it as a brand new car. As long as it's fit for purpose and safe then it's a ten year old car and some wear and tear is to be expected
Hear hear!! I once heard a story of a car that was pulled in for a recall 4 weeks after being sold by a main dealer. The workshop ripped it apart for discs, pads and tyres, then sent the “health check” to the customer…. That went well 😂😂😂
Hi Rob, I watched your podcast with the other two guys and found it very interesting. I'm a big fan of Matt at High Peak Autos and thought I'd send him a very nice email asking him if he'd ever considered kicking Autotrader into touch as was discussed in the podcast. I was very proud of the nicely constructed and jolly little email. I received a one-word answer - Crank. I'm very puzzled about this and have decided to either stop watching HPA channel or just watch all the posts as normal and then just comment "crank".
I have owned my garage for 30 yrs mate and I did sales for 3 yrs never again I sold all my stock and kept to mot and repair work and I have no issues doing that and way more money than sales
You’ve made an excellent choice! Sadly I (and many other car dealers) actually don’t have a clue how to do discs and pads, let alone the difficult stuff. So we are regulated to bottom feeding deal makers!! Hope business is good 😊

Well it's a tough job dealing used cars especially in the UK where it's highly regulated. Every used car may come up with issues that's why you need to have links to repair industry and in this market condition making money is hard
I'll bet if you suggest having a comprehensive AA inspection (£191) done at the owners home, before you do the deal then most of the time, they'll come clean with any issues, and £191 is a lot cheaper than what you'll most likely have to pay out for the repairs.
Hello Rob. Wow, it's Crazy the money some cars end up costing you, Rob. Ah, Joe and James are dead sound, Rob. They have good TH-cam channels, just like Yourself. Stay Safe and keep the Video's coming, Pal. Thanks 🇮🇪 🙏🙏👏👏👏👏
Hi, just discovered your channel on TH-cam and find it both interesting and entertaining. So, end of this year in the market for another car, thinking between Mercedes S Class Coupe or BMW 8 series. This will probably be the last car I buy due to age (62). Which in your opinion would be the better option? I currently have a Mercedes. Thank you.
Just came across your video channel..think thats the issue with the Internet...whole load of sh*t...but then comes honest guys like you...open an honest..defo following...gaz
Pal of mine who sells BMW’s and the occasional Ferrari or Lambo sells a bmw 1 series for around £8k He’s in a chineese restaurant on a Sunday at 3pm and gets a text there’s a problem so looks but leaves it . 15 mins later he gets a call the brake lights on so as loudly as possible in a packed restaurant screams I’m trying to have a fkin chineese meal with my family and you’re ruining it 😂😂😂
Big mistake not stipulating any warranty work needs to be brought back to you Giving a scumbag customer who connives to get a main dealer to scrutinise it and you pick up the bill is par for the course .
we repair cars modern cars are piss poor , they have a life of about 6 years 60 k then stuff goes wrong ALL MAKES seen massive expensive problems with them all could write a book ,if i wasnt so busy putting em right..........put a make/ model up and can give you a run down of common faults
Easy for you to sit there and slag BMW , They have a duty of care to report all faults , just be cause you sold a car that requires a lot of work to it . I have seen many bin lids sold by back street garages . if i let that car go out and some thing happens and the car crashes , first thing the customer says , its just being in the BMW Garage. and as a tech its me who is responsible . Am i bothered about back street garages crying about the car i have knocked . nope not at all .
What fuel has he put in the X6. Sounds abit fishy as soon as he left petrol station. It's a 10 year old car it's not going to be to bmw standard which is a 'brand new' standard. You also wouldn't be fitting brand new parts to a old car. Tell him to bring car back and give him his shit porsche back. Get the bmw back immediately you'll have nothing but problems with that guy. As a fellow car trader I promise you best thing you can do is give him his old car back.
I hear all of this! Thank you, I’m going to run with it and see where we end up. I suspect that a specialist will have an interesting opinion and to be fair to the guy, he is being sound throughout and I don’t think the main dealer visit was an attempt on my wallet… yet! 😂
@thelogbookcc nobody who is 'sound' takes a 10 year old bmw back to BMW for a inspection. It's just not normal behavior. I imagine it will of cost a pretty penny too. The fact he took it to BMW tells you everything about this guys expectations. Champagne mouth Lemonade pockets. He needs to go buy a new car. I can tell you from experience that 4.4 v8 M engine the engine light are on and off like Blackpool illuminations. If he takes it to bmw everytime he'll bankrupt your company.

Hey Dale! Welcome and thank you for joining, certainly be doing another soon! ☺️☺️
Car dealing in the 70's and 80's was great fun and a laugh a minute at the auctions, now it's just a pain in the arris, glad I got out in 1990.

we repair cars modern cars are piss poor , they have a life of about 6 years 60 k then stuff goes wrong ALL MAKES seen massive expensive problems with them all could write a book ,if i wasnt so busy putting em right..........put a make/ model up and can give you a run down of common faults
There’s on one way to get to a million quid in in the car game , start with 2
😂😂😂 love that!
Rob, this is bloody depressing mate. The exasperation you’re feeling is seeping through every pixel!
It’s all good my friend, sometimes maybe good… sometimes maybe…. Not good 😊
Enjoy your video but please stop blaspheming
I shall try and thank you
