I was seriously looking forward to this video and it did not disappoint. I do find Russell's game here to be pretty overrated, especially since he had the advantage no one else had of his first season not airing. I do often wonder what if Samoa was an earlier season or if he had more time inbetween Samoa and this season, how much of a different player he would've been. That being said though, he put his soul out in to both seasons and played two very strong games that no one can take away from him.
Russel is a car crash style of player. Its a magnificent shocking disaster you cannot look away from. He is a horrible social player. And man. That makes great tv.
Say what you want about Richard Hatch, but he was right on calling out Russell’s gameplay (which OUAI excellently pointed out throughout the video by showing/highlighting how Russell had awful jury management/social skills/strategy)

Honestly him targeting Danielle did nothing except blow up Parvati's game. I think she knew that Danielle and Russell were the only people she could beat at FTC because she isn't stupid. I just think she also knew it was far more risky to try and reach an olive branch out to people who were so blatant about wanting her gone literally as soon as she made it onto the beach. So while she definitely lost because she only stuck to her little group, I think it was in her mind easier for her to manipulate the game to protect her ideal final 3 than to try and convince everyone else that she isn't a target and is someone they could work with. But as soon as Danielle goes here, Parvati's game is done. She might make final tribal, but I'm almost positive there isn't a combination of people that she can win against. Unless MAYBE if she sits next to Colby and Rupert and they both just absolutely blow it.
Correct. And the reason Russell voted Danielle out is because Parvati hid an idol from him for no reason. This really doesn't get talked about enough as one of the worst moves in Survivor history, but it was. Especially for a previous winner.
@@bigbuffguy9589 tbh, I don’t think her hiding that idol is a bad move. I think that was like her contingency plan of being like “see I did things without Russell” and she also had no way of knowing how he’d react to it. Playing the way Russell did here I don't know if theres anyone in this season he could have actually beaten in the end because he winds up burning every single person on the way out whether he needed to or not.
The only way I could’ve seen him win Samoa was if he brought some combination of Mick, Jaison or Shambo to the final three. Mick and Jaison were both looked at as ineffective/not respected and Shambo was on the bottom of Galu and flipped on them for Russell at the merge

Russell is straight up entertainment for Survivor but yeah if only he could do the jury management better he could be one of the best winners of all time up there with Tony
if Russell Hantz wants to say he played one time…okay sure fine. but can i say by Day 72 he lost his mind? he literally voted out the ONE person he probably could’ve beaten 😂
Russell can't beat Danielle. He loses to literally everyone. I actually think he'd have a better (though still very slim) chance against Candice, but he wasn't the one who wanted to split the vote on her--that was all Parvati and Danielle. And anyway, since it's a final three, there was no way he could get to the end with two people he can beat. Russell was actually pretty justified in voting out Danielle too. She and Parvati hid an idol from him, which he correctly viewed as a major breach of trust.
How did Russell find out that Tyson wasn't supposed to vote for Parvati? That information is crucial so Russell knows who he has to flip and I'm curious how he figured it out. I dont think I've ever seen anyone clarify how he found out Tyson was voting for him and knew he had to flip him to vote Parvati to pull that insane idol play off.
Id imagine he had the same speech with everyone. How he had to play for himself and was voting for Parvati. We probably just saw the convo with Tyson because it was the most relevant.
I think being labeled a villain went to Russell’s head from the get go. That being said, could he win against Coach, Candice or Danielle? Even Russell knew Coach was a joke, Candice was hated by everyone, and Danielle was a non-factor, we’re only reminded of her existence in relation to Russell and Parvati
No. Because people who intentionally hurt degrade belittle condescend others do not deserve to win because that is a lack of interpersonal skills. He is a malicious human being, meaning he likes hurting others, so he did not deserve to win.
I guess I'm wondering if he took a break for a season and learned the results of the other season first if he would have played his next one differently. Russell is the best player ever. Unfortunately he had a bitter jury both times. Russell changed the game. When I think of Survivor, the first name I think of is Russell.
@@OnceUponAnIsland I define bitter jury as a jury that votes against someone in the finale rather than for someone. In his first season, Russell changed the game. He got to the end and they gave it to the blonde girl (no one even knows her name), not because she played a good game, but because they were so upset at Russell's game. Russell came back the next season and dominated again. He is able to somehow get people to do what he wants even when he's in the bottom. He played an excellent game again, but the jury gave to to Sandra who was just dragged along. The bitter jury votes for the person who was least offensive, regardless if they played a good game. Sandra did nothing that season other than burn Russell's hat.
Boston Rob showed in this season why he is the best survivor player ever. He absolutely dominated parvati and russell, and if tyson hadn't made the dumbest mistake in survivor history which was completely out of Rob's control, he would have voted out russell and then voted out parvati, and then he would have had a dominate 6 person alliance that was completely under his control. That one decision from Tyson changed this from what would have been one of the most dominate seasons from a single player in survivor history to one of the greatest seasons in survivor history.

I know Sandra didn’t get dragged to the end and actually made some very nice plays to keep herself in the game. I think Parvati did so much more and the jury saw her proximity to Russel as a bigger negative than it likely was. Sandra likely had Courtney, Colby, Coach, and Ruperts votes locked in because they associated Parvati with Russel, though Courtney was just friends with Sandra and nothing was going to change that vote.
Sandra is just smart here. Her jury was mad at Russel and she pushed that narrative of anti russel to the perfection. Knowing your jury is big and Sandra was really good at that for her two wins. The Way he Played was that when he made the final 3 he would hope that the Jury would look at The Facts and Be impressed by how he Dominated the whole season Strategically and how he controlled the game, to put Facts over Feelings, (But the Jury did the Opposite.) He was Ahead of his time. Put him in a Later season and he would have a W under his belt. either way he might not be the GOAT, but he is Probably up there as the Most Important Survivor player of all time.
But the FACTS are that he had no social game. You can’t piss everyone off and expect them to give you a million dollars. He played horribly. That’s a fact.
russle would have won season 20 but people were judging him on past seasons, al lthe mad people were furious but in his second game he did nothing but vote out the other tribe
Russel a dumb strategist?? LOL Thats got to be one of the dumbest things Ive heard. Whether you like him or not, theres a reason why he got to the end twice and dominated while doing it. He was literally in control both seasons majority of the time especially on somoa. He just wasnt the most likeable which is why he never "won". Objectively though he played the best games both seasons. If the jury wasnt so bitter he would of won easily. Funny you said parvati carried him along but Im sure if he wanted her out she would of went because most of other players saw parv as a bigger threat actually. Since the jury disliked him so much they gave the win to Sandra lol which was definetly a goat. Say what you want about Russell, but Ive never seen someone play harder than him. The way Danielle talked about him like saying she felt she was in prison pretty much sums up how hard of a player he was.
The goal of Survivor is... 1. Get to the end. - Russell was very good at this. 2. Convince your jury to vote for you. - Russell was terrible at this with two completely separate juries who did not know him beforehand. Number 1 doesn't matter when you are actively sabotaging number 2.

I could watch Russell vs Rupert ALL DAY...like a Troll vs a Caveman
Problem is that the Russell Hanz method is rewarded in the real world as long as you can still sleep at night.
Sandra throwing Russell's hat into the fire was my all time favorite Survivor character moment 😂
Russell is one of the craziest players I think i have ever seen 😂
great video and editing that hour went by like nothing lol. Definitely keep these type of videos up!
Thanks! Check out my story video playlist! I have 135 videos like this one as of today.
“see you soon, bffs forever, xoxo, jt” kills me every single time
Russell rolled in on Survivor Australia, and literally did the carbon copy of HvV, ego multiplied by ten, they tossed his ass off second episode.
Russel is a car crash style of player. Its a magnificent shocking disaster you cannot look away from. He is a horrible social player. And man. That makes great tv.
great opening!! my 2 FAV characters and ive NEVER seen that before!! TYY
Say what you want about Richard Hatch, but he was right on calling out Russell’s gameplay (which OUAI excellently pointed out throughout the video by showing/highlighting how Russell had awful jury management/social skills/strategy)
Finaly the video that ive been waiting for !!!!
Awesome
You just gotta love the energy that Russell brings to the game itself. Russell's biggest problem is the jury but only because of the way he treats them during the game. You can't stab everybody in the back and expect them to put your name down in the final Tribal Council.
Parv basically played Russell like a fiddle
Parv had a shot to win but Sandra had a better tribal council and wasn’t attached to Russell
But then again If Russell was not there she would be frist villain to be vote out.
No
@@Melvinshermen so true, everyone teamed up on parvati day 1, kind of justified on how good she is as a player. It drives people crazy that she won every battle no matter the odds. She could never win the votes at the end because of the players pride of being outwitted on tv.
She wouldn't have been able to do any of that if russell didn't save first.
Russell really set his legacy in HvV had he flopped in HvV he would have been seen as a 1 hit wonder and likely his influence doesn't get as big as it became but he showed that he was able to beat newbies and vets with his agressive gameplay changing survivor forever.
It's fine gameplay if no one knows about it but when they do he is gone first time asking just look at redemption island
@@JodiMcCreery-mi4gfNot even just Redemption Island. It happened in Australia too. He only managed to get as far as he did in Heroes vs. Villains because none of them got to see him play before.
Don't get me wrong, it made the season pretty entertaining, but it was an unfair advantage.
@@SRFAA It was an advantage but at the same time he didn't have connections to anyone like most other players that already knew eachother
@@theobecquet8477 People not knowing his gameplay/personality is a bigger advantage than not having connections going into the season. It's not like most of the people in this season were friends going into it.
It's funny seeing the idol swap from Russell's perspective since he was doing everything that J.T though Parvati was doing.
The hobbit on crack… that broke me 😂😂😂
It’s pretty accurate tho haha 😂
Russell, the best, most unselfaware goat of all time!
Yes and the candence getting voted out also hurted her chances because that was a back up option for her
The episode where he called Rupert a dumbass and constantly bullied Danielle reducing her to tears shows perfectly why he lost and got zero jury votes
@@bigbuffguy9589 tbh, I don’t think her hiding that idol is a bad move. I think that was like her contingency plan of being like “see I did things without Russell” and she also had no way of knowing how he’d react to it. If there was any mistake, it would be admitting that she was closer to Danielle than Russell thought. I think she could’ve protected her if she’d just like nodded her head and placated Russell. Although, too, I can also see why she’d want to semi-publicly stand up to Russell.
Never watched a single season of Survivor but I love your page you make these character analysis very entertaining

Sitting next to two former winners at the end is a good idea....if you don't make yourself look like the biggest jerk in Survivor history.
Mick and Jaison were both looked at as ineffective/not respected and Shambo was on the bottom of Galu and flipped on them for Russell at the merge

if Russell Hantz wants to say he played one time…okay sure fine. but can i say by Day 72 he lost his mind? he literally voted out the ONE person he probably could’ve beaten 😂
Yes if your talking about candice
How did Russell find out that Tyson wasn't supposed to vote for Parvati? That information is crucial so Russell knows who he has to flip and I'm curious how he figured it out. I dont think I've ever seen anyone clarify how he found out Tyson was voting for him and knew he had to flip him to vote Parvati to pull that insane idol play off.
I’ve thought about this before too
Id imagine he had the same speech with everyone. How he had to play for himself and was voting for Parvati. We probably just saw the convo with Tyson because it was the most relevant.
@@mazdakmina9493i think you right
Best Survivor player ever IMHO.
Russell is my favorite player of all time and I feel he should have won both his game
Whose votes should he have gotten this season?
No. Because people who intentionally hurt degrade belittle condescend others do not deserve to win because that is a lack of interpersonal skills. He is a malicious human being, meaning he likes hurting others, so he did not deserve to win.
russel is my favourite survivor player ever , I know I am in for a treat when the camera is on the villian side

Coach's words mhmm I wonder if he should have listened to them himself.
Wait so he sat though two live finales and lost back to back. That's gotta break you,
The "But Why?" Quote should be on a shirt
I guess I'm wondering if he took a break for a season and learned the results of the other season first if he would have played his next one differently. Kinda forced him to double down on his game being secretly awesome after he blatantly said he was awesome over 2 seasons without knowing the actual outcome of either until he was released from the asylum.
I could be interpreting it wrong it just popped into my head at 1:48
turns out if I waited just a few seconds before commenting you basically covered that. a shame really now the whole family are basically reality tv villains by default
Russell probably played the same because he assumed he won Samoa with the same strategies
the way russell consistently talks about and to women across his seasons is unbelievably uncomfortable to listen to. sandra burning his stupid hat was extremely vindicating though, so at least there’s that.
Agreed
" the hobbit on crack" is crazy 🤣

Why do you never show Danielle's jury speech
the biggest missed opportunity Russell Hantz plus Richard Hatch together as Villains. plus notable Villains like Rob Cesternino Brian Heidik Johnny Fairplay etc...
Rob Mariano vs Russell Hantz was good though great comparison of old school vs new school gameplay Villain style...
honestly the male Villains should’ve been Rob, Richard, Fairplay, Russell, and Penner. and Judd probably would be my alternate.
Tyson was just snarky/cocky.
Randy was grumpy.
Coach was hypocritical.
i’d would’ve liked to see Shane out there but he wasn’t really a villain, he was just on edge because of nicotine withdrawal. it’s like Ian from TAR 3.
Irrelevant but does anyone else think Russell has pretty eyes?
Finally bro!

Russell is the best player ever. Unfortunately he had a bitter jury both times. Russell changed the game. When I think of Survivor, the first name I think of is Russell.
Why did he have a bitter jury both times?
Hobbit on Crack 😂
BTW if Pravati didn’t relive the reason why he put Jerri on the jury to Jerri she still wouldn’t vote for Russell because he was a jerk to everyone
If Russell were honest with Jerri and didn't get caught by Parv at final tribal, he probably has her vote.
@@OnceUponAnIsland note Jerri said In her AMA Russell lost her vote because he was a jerk to everyone in his opening speech
He would have dominated this season just as much as he dominated redemption island. That one decision from Tyson changed this from what would have been one of the most dominate seasons from a single player in survivor history to one of the greatest seasons in survivor history.
I see you're quoting Malcolm now.

Parvati and Eliza in Micronesia are not fair comparisons to Russell and the jury here. He is not Parvati, they are not Eliza, the season is in Samoa, and it is all returnees.
@@OnceUponAnIsland It's a fair comparison because I'm trying to explain to you that there are jurors like Eliza who know how to put their anger aside and there are jurors like Jerri, JT or Rupert who just don't understand that this is survivor.
Russell lied to Jerri and got caught by Parvati during final tribal in front of Jerri. JT didn't like how Russell wouldn't own how he played the game and Rupert didn't value how Russell played and was friends with Sandra. Russell never had a chance with Rupert, but he blew it with JT and Jerri. Russell doesn't understand how to win Survivor.
Always feels like Parvati should have won, she didn’t do anything scummy and had several bigger moves she could call her own that were not attached to Russel.
Parvati made some amazing moves but that association wasn't a good thing in the long run. She could have pulled a Sophie and use that connection for her by saying she brought him to the slaughter but she didn't
@@soraandthegang1066 I think Parvati tried the Sophie approach, but the third finalist was Sandra, not Albert. It probably would have worked if she had either Danielle or Candice there instead. Parvati was drawing dead at final six.
@@bigbuffguy9589In the end Parv biggest mistake was her day 1 alliance with Russel. In the head of people she was his biggest ally and she didn't get rid of him soon enough to get momentum. When Russel started picking out people she was done for. In the end Sandra did outplay her contrarly to some belief. Sandra understood the assignment and played around this whole Russel ego maniac and Russel just didn't want to believe that Sandra could beat him. Parv could not have picked a worse ally.
this Sandra gameplay actually became so much of a hit that in Winners At war Tony was actively trying to avoid it (which is pretty funny but also poetic.)

As a Massive Fan of Russell Hantz , as much as I love season 19 and 20, I just Can't rewatch them due to the Fact that he hasn't won, I think Russell is misunderstood, I don't think he is a Flawed Player, The way he Chose to play was Considered " Anti-Meta " at that time of how survivor was played.

@@OnceUponAnIsland Ya I think that's just a flaw of survivor though. Who ends up getting the win is very emotional and people vote with their feelings instead of being objective about it. So you think Sandra and Natalie played a better game than Russell?
