For us, the third row of seats was important. They are pretty tight, but we don't use them often. It's just good to have the option.
White seats are just fine. Drove my 7 seater with White seats for lyft for over a year. Cleans up with Glass Plus and a microfiber towel. My nephew's son sprayed strawberry soda from the third row, all the way to the dashboard. Took 3 adults 3 hours and a lot of water, but it all came out.
In other words you don't need to clean the black as much or you just let it blend in? Unless it is different material it seems cleaning time and water used plus the three adults would be the same. I don't think they even talked about three row MY.
@@timsteinkamp2245 no, I also have black interiors on the other two Teslas. You still have to clean the black because dirt is still there and shows up in different ways.
We have early 2018 RWD M3 with 325 mile range battery. We absolutely have loved that car, but look forward to putting order in on the refreshed M3 soon. M3 in our view is a total winner. I am currently on my 3rd MS and prefer our 2022 MSLR for road trips with the 405 mile range.
My sister is going through this decision right now. She was very taken by a Y at the Fully Charged Show in Sydney but decided that she prefers the sportiness of the 3.
John your in a great position to create a comparison video on the 2 battery chemistries of each of your cars. I feel there isn't enough said about the LFP battery.
Great review! Model 3 can tow 2,000 lbs with 3rd party hitches. I installed one and it helps a lot with the larger items!
Interesting video. But, at some point I noticed your shirt. I’m not sure what it says, but the seatbelt makes it read something pretty funny 😁
Great video! Was dead set on the 3 for the last year and didn't even consider the Y. I've got two kids and deep diving into the spacial difference the Y was a no-brainer!
I got the model 3 performance because I already have a suv but the performance model 3 is so much fun!
Great video and I think this is a common decision for probably the majority of people in the market to buy a new vehicle right now. Also owner of model 3 and Y and today we are selling our Model 3 since we don't need to have 2 vehicles right now and will wait for next gen vehicle to go back to 2 cars. Will be praying for you Mom 🙏🏼
I don't have one, but white interior owners apparently report the white is easily cleaned.
I would have thought that main motivation for Tesla redesigning Model 3 is to make it cheaper to manufacture so it should ultimately be cheaper to buy after demand stabilizes.
That's what the Mexico factory is for.
Thanks for the Great Review it's exactly what the Dr. ordered ! Yea, I'm kind of a Tech junkie so I will definitely wait for the Refresh Model 3. Will my decision between 3 and Y be easier then ?
nice video, Thanks. Also you took it like a champ when your wife said “I was cramped on the back seat with the CEO and another person”:)
I currently drive a minivan, so I would buy the Y, but it doesn’t seem to fit my electric wheelchair into it! ☹️😖 Now I’m waiting for the Cybertruck or Cybervan! 😂
I got a model 3 back in 2019 and I’m always tempted to trade it in for a model y
Perhaps, the difference that you feel but just can't describe between MY and M3 is the height of center of mass. The M3 having a lower center of mass, would rock less in turns and lean back a little less when accelerating. Just my guess.
We have a y. The differences you eluded to probably correct. I would suggest that unless you are a racer you would not even notice. It is only 1” higher off the road plus the roof is a little higher the seats are I think 4 or 5 inches higher. Bottom line negligible. IMO
The contrast between the model Y and the model 3, in terms of driving position, couldn’t be more pronounced. The model 3, with feet almost at the level of the hips, feels like a go cart. I’d love to experience the M3P, but in the meantime, I’m happy with the MYP.
Yikes! Trying to decide. In/out ease for my folks, visibility ease for a shorter human are big factors. Only the Highlander is keeping me from pulling the Y trigger. Thoughts?
The only bummer for me with the M3 RWD, is the missing premium sound system.
We like to do road trips so the longer ranger and larger size of Y makes it our target goal to buy. Starting to save up now but if we need to at 30k to 32.5k for a 3 that's as cheap as almost any other gas car so we could do that if our 150k mileage car gives up the ghost,l.
While I love My MY LR for its practicality, space and hatch back, k do miss my model 3 for its handling and efficiency.
How is the fit and finish on the current Teslas?
I’m curious on the charge rate comparison and the drive suspension comparison
I was expecting a fair comparison between the 3 and Y but this is just a Y is best video.
Not surprising, but I think it’s down to several variables, mainly less performance/handling/ride-comfort with the Y vs the 3 with the Y making it up in more room and utility. One interesting point, I know a guy who traded his Y in for a 3 due to tire availability. He and his wife got stranded once with a flat and were in some small town and would have to wait like 48 hours to get a tire while tires for the 3 were available. Presumably the Y would be moderately safer due to its size to take more impact.
@@fractalelf7760 I like my 3. My son has a Y. I don't want bigger heavier higher off the ground. Storage in 3 is a lot. Most people don't haul lumber in their cars. 3 is better looking. Y looks like a bloated 3.
@@Nerlin The 3 is definitely underrated for carrying capacity no doubt. As you said most people don’t haul all that much in reality. I don’t owe either and I keep going back and forth, both are very good just different focused.
@Joe K your preference is just that, your preference. Has no value to other buyers.
I've had two 3s and two Ys. Currently, still have the second 3 and two Ys. ALL the comparisons in the video are valid.
Model 3 driver seat too low? Driver comfort ok for long drives?
Nice video. Your better half sounds great.
After house is hopefully paid off in two years or less, I will get a Model Y. I could probably handle a Model 3 AWD but at 57 and with a mom a and older friends, I look forward to not falling into my car. The extra space sounds good too. I hope to have this care almost forever. Unless I become rich upon retirement…hint Tesla, Nvidia and etc. then we’ll see down the road. Likely will just pay for FSD and have the car drive us around.
The wife test. We have both LR AWD Model 3 and Model Y. The 3 drives smoother, better handling, better range and is more sporty than the Y. Unless you need extra storage and bottom clearance, I much prefer driving the 3. Jeannine
How different is the Y in your opinion for handling?
@@fractalelf7760 Not as good as the 3 but good!!
As a scientist and therefore a skeptic (who also has a sense of humor), I suggest that you read today's (Sunday June 4) Doonesbury strip.
What is the ride quality like? Hear a lot of noise while driving on the highway.
RE. rear wheel drive, I had an original Miata that I loved, but as a RW drive, it was horrible in the snow. That was another reason I got the Y (long range) for here in NY where I live. Maybe the model 3 is better in the snow since it's heavier? Plus you have that off-road option in the Y (does it have that in the model 3 RW?).
Well its more so that the model 3 has 50/50 weight distribution where as most rwd ice cars are front heavy with the engine. Model 3 RWD won't get as good traction as a Model 3/Y AWD, but it will still be much better than most gas cars.
I drove a friend's MY and then rented a M3 for a week. I purchased the M3 not only because of the price but because I prefer smaller, sportier cars, in fact I sold my 2003 Toyota MR2 for the M3. If I only had one vehicle I might choose the MY. I wish Tesla would release their roadster.
I had a model 3 and sold it. I hated the trunk and missed my hatchback. The model Y is way better to me. As far as speed goes, I had/have dual motor versions and they are both plenty fast enough so I don't miss the few tenths 0-60 acceleration. I don't think the handling was that different feeling to me. They are almost the same chassis.
You're very scientific and practically minded like myself. Could you please let me know why you think the Highland will be more expensive? I've been waiting in hopes that it will be a little cheaper. Thank you!
my wife found getting into the Y was a bit difficult. The seats are higher and there are no handgrips on the door frame. she has limited mobility
Interesting to hear. For me its the other way around. The Y is more convenient for me.
@@wolfgangpreier9160 I drive a Model Y and my friend drives a Model 3. For me the Model Y is somewhat easier to get in and out. For my friend the Model 3 is easier. So it varies with the individual. We're both in the low 70s. Handgrips would be a plus but not a big deal.
Nice to catch a glimpse of the family in the thumbnail. 👋
The morale is that everyone has their own metrics for what they consider to be "best". That is why there are different model cars. That is why we need more variety.
Don't need more variety. Let the OEM manufacturers waste their time and money with variety.
Like you we have 2021 MY LR and M3 SR (both with white seats). Our road tripping is exclusively with the MY and we have the hitch which we use to bring our ebikes along on many of the trips. I'm 6'5" and the Y is just more comfortable to drive long distance. The M3 is a nice car but to small for me. My wife loves the M3 and is happy in driving in Chill mode. I secretly changed that to Standard and she never noticed. We charge both cars at home (Wall Charger) 90% and we have Tesla Solar + Powerwalls so the charging is "free". Everything just works and couldn't be happier with our all Tesla carbon reduction program.
We're a retired couple, single RAV4 hybrid. Rarely take any road trips. Any thoughts? We've had Camry, RAV 4, CORROLA.
If the RAV4 is running great, then keep it. The Model 3 is like a Corolla / Camry. The Model Y is like a RAV4. Whichever Toyota you liked better, get the equivalent Tesla.
As a 5'10" adult, the space in the rear seats is miles better in the Model Y. The price difference is small and the rest of the differences are very small.
If you like cars and how they drive, handle and turn (over and under steering) get the model 3. If you have no concept of car handling and want space get an SUV variant.
When you get another Tesla, can you transfer full self driving?
no its only connected to cars, not profiles
No, but they should. That would be an incentive to buy another Tesla.
The cost of producing the new M3 should be less as they will be including front and rear castings and, potentially, a structural battery pack and, if Tesla are serious about accelerating the move to electric everything, the new M3 should be priced competitively...
If only the Model Y had a midsized truck version.
That one is called Cybertruck. 😊
Actually UTE style makes more sense to me but I like El Camoino's compared to a s10 or ram50.
@@wolfgangpreier9160 I've got a Cybertruck reservation. But I suspect it will be to big, to expensive. A bit overkill towing a boat and hauling trash to the dump.
@@Dularr I got no boat to haul i could not say anything to that use case. Besides the CT will be too heavy for me to be allowed to tow anything. My license only allows for up to 3.5 tons total weight. I could extend my license though. We'll see.
Yes i need mine for hauling to the dump regularly. And it will not cost me more than a Model Y because it counts as a truck. I as a company do not pay any taxes for trucks, but 30% of the taes a privateer would hav eto pay for a Y or 3. So: The CT would cost me about the same as a Model Y.
Thats why i have orered two. And hope i get one in Europe. Sometimes. Hopefully before 2030.
I expect that the M3 Highland will be LESS expensive than the current version. Tesla will apply everything they have learned from the MY and apply that to the new vehicle: front and rear giga-castings, structural battery pack, simplified wiring harness, 46-80 cells, LFP battery pack option. Additional changes may include 800 Volt main power, 48 volt accessory power, LI low voltage battery, vehicle to grid capability, carbon cilicate power electronics, rare-earth free motors.
This makes a lighter, more efficient, less expensive vehicle. Given that Tesla's mission is to transition the world to renewable energy, Price cuts would be more in line with that mission than profit gouging.
Y as a taller car with a tow hitch.
I was about to until I found out that insurance in $250 to $300 per month. 😭
TBH, Tesla has not built the car I want yet. I prefer a hatchback. No, not an SUV. They have been very slow to unveil the new model (Robo-Taxi). I'm still hoping that it will take styling cues from the Cybertruck but be a low-slung hatchback. Three doors or five, I really don't care, but a 3-door hot hatch with a stainless steel exosckeliton would be very cool.
3 if you are short, want something sporty, no need for more room, and don't plan to travel long distances. Y for everything else.
The one on the left
Definitely Model Y. More of a utilitarian vehicle. This is coming from a current Yukon XL owner.
Typo on thumbnail
Go Tesla woohoo 😅❤
I couldn’t justify the cost difference between an ICE vehicle and an electric, in Oct ‘22, but would have liked to get a Model Y, dual motor (awd), sport version. Instead I got a ‘22 Subaru WRX, manual ( I’m single and have mostly gone for more sporty vehicles, however I’ve had two vw Jetta Diesels) - awd for my Denver winters was a requirement and the engagement driving a manual has always given me over an automatic. I also felt that by the time I was ready for another new car (and assume it will be electric. - but maybe by that time hydrogen fuel cell will be an attractive option?) I’d have many more choices, and at a much lower price.
I’m sorry, but hydrogen fuel cells will never be an attractive option for cars :)
It is just too expensive with too little benefit.
The Subaru WRX is only available used. 2016 WRX white 32.993 km 43.990,--
And you compare that with a 2023 vehicle? No matter which manufacturer.
Please keep your oldtimer.
@@wolfgangpreier9160 perhaps you mean STI? Or live somewhere where you can’t get a wrx? I’m quite sure a ‘22 wrx is what I purchased, and drive daily.
@@michaelbraden6245 The WRX was discontinued in Europe some years ago.
haha thought you misspelled misinformation at first.
No but he did misspell which
Love my 21m3. What i hate is that it cost me about 20k cdn nore than the sr m3 at the time because only the sr got a fed incemtive of 5000. Now it seems everything qualifies here. I hate govt. Oh well.
Anyone over 5'10" needs the Y, not the 3.
Isn't 4'12" Five Feet...lol...
The Model Why is twice as likely to roll over as the Model 3
I don't believe so. Provide link or data source.
Really don't like these in car videos. Couldn't finish watching the video due to road noise annoyance.
