Thank you so much for posting this. I've been a Tracfone user for 15 years & my 5yo LG Android phone is on its last leg. I spent many hours last week researching phones - comparing specs, reading reviews, etc. I was wanting something $100 or under so there were about 15 phones that qualified. My current phone has a 4.5" screen - I noticed that the new phones are >6". I went to Best Buy to compare the sizes in my hand after reading a CNET article about bigger not necessarily being the most comfortable. After that, I knew I wanted a compact size. I had never heard of TCL but once I input the specs on my spreadsheet, this was the clear winner - 2021 model, 5.5" screen, latest Android version (11), 3G RAM, 2G processor & only $30 at Tracfone! (I'm a low-end user anyway.) Hey, if it doesn't work out, I'm not out much! I'm OK with a subpar camera & I'll find out if Wi-Fi calling is supported. Now I'll need to figure out how to transfer my SMS texts when I set it up. Thanks again for your review - very helpful to have a visual to make my final decision!👍

I had this phone given to me by a Friend who had it laying around, I dropped my iphone 12 and cracked the screen 🤦 I've been using the TCL A3 and besides having a low memory (32 Gb) it's actually a pretty smooth phone, I honestly can't believe this phone actually costs $40 it works perfect and does everything my Iphone 12 does even the face Id is fast and works perfect every time. The camera takes pretty decent pictures with good color, I'm definitely not complaining when I was blessed with it for free.
I got mine from tracfone a couple of weeks ago. Very good for price. Face id seems to work great, decent amount of memory makes it run smoother and faster than you would think it could. The bad parts are that its clunky and thick and camera is subpar
As long as the phone is fast and works great I could care less how small the screen is. It would be nice for a little bit bigger screen but I'm not going to complain about something I got for free. I hope it has nice battery life. My old phone kept overheating,shutting off,barely keeping a charge. I'd go to charge my old phone and the battery would die out and say 40-50% even though it was suppose to be fully charged. Also I see you playing mobile games I'd sugguest Baseball Clash and Bowling Kings is great too. I also enjoy the mini golf kings one too.

As a tcl a3 owner, this is right, but the battery and temperature sensor only last around a year or so. Luckily they're a cheap and easy fix. Just something to look out for from experience. Also, these things must be built like Nokias. I lost track of how many times I dropped mine and raged on it.
Hmm, I had to upgrade cuz the tracfone I had was 3G. I have had this since around 2021 and the battery is still good. what temp sensor? ? I only used cell for emergency calls, rarely text. so.... I can talk and the text types itself, it has GPS, really good. I can use google translate, it does way way more than I ever expected. the alarm clock messes up but others with $$$ phones having same problem. I installed google clock app - same problem. I clear the cache and al that blah blah. It is a problem. I think with android phones.
Yeh, my daughter is rough on cell phones. So for a black friday we got her this one. For some reason the one she has now cannot accept calls. Don't know why, plus the screen has a cover on it that has been cracked about 3 times. So with her at college she needs something, but not something we would worry about if she lost it.

I got this phone free and its pretty good. The only thing i don't like is the camera clarity but in all is a good phone. And it features a led light for notifications-a feature you don't see often anymore in this day of age
wow that's really good deal it's specs is close to my Nokia 6 phone from 2017 but my phone is 1080P and has better camera but my phone costed 200$ in 2017 and this is 40$ phone it's an amazing deal even if you don't need the phone XD
Gonna buy one for a relative to load up with VLC media player so they have a decent MP3 player to use around the house. (most dedicated MP3 players are terrible these days)
Never going to really trust another phone from Alcatel after the one I had. probably because it was very garbage, tiny 4inch screen, android 4.2, half a gb of ram, and like a duel core CPU or something, just took forever to do anything, even missed phone calls because it was too dang slow to respond, and I paid like $120 for it at the time. I used it until I could afford to buy another phone, in late 2018, when I bought a used Samsung Galaxy S8... what a change that was, then last year I bought a used Galaxy S10+ and now have a phone that even though it was over a year old when I got it, 8gb of ram and the CPU, plus the size of the screen and continued updates, wont need another phone for at least another 5+ years, and even then I would wonder if the thing will ever get slow enough to really want another. The Alcatel phone I had I think was called the One Touch Mini. Still have it somewhere, but don't really care enough to make an effort to find it lol
Bought an alcatel 1s 2020. After a bad update it became unresponsive few weeks after I bought it. Wanted to reinstall the original ROM but there is non uploaded online lmao. Also no custom ROMs for it. Completely trashy phone. With every other phone I was able to fix my issues but not with alcatel.

Regardless of its age, it gave me a horrible experience... and now for as long as I have been with Samsung, can't see myself using another device, as the experiences have been very good between my old S8, my S10+ and Tab A7, and even the S7 I bought my mother over a year ago to replace her crappy iPhone, which the S7 is still holding up really good for its age.

iPhone doesn’t work well with android a lot. If it’s both old iPhone and old android it will be hard. Only the new android and the newest iPhone kinda work.
The battery in these starts to fail, rather quickly. I didn't pay for it, so it's not earth shaking. I've seen it sold on eBay for as little as $39. You can't expect much.
I found a mangled one that works on the street and if I can't find the owner, IT'S MINE. Probably a discarded burner for who knows what. Have you figured out the offline fm radio yet?

The problem of these TCL A3 and A30 is that they do not have Auto Focus (AF) on their camera. That makes for allways blurry fotos. A flash and AF are a must unless you are fine with allways blurry fotos.

Can't seem to find a video on the TCL 4x 5g straight talk version. It $99 Right now normally $199 hoping someone could let me know if I should go for it or not. I'm in need of a new phone anyways.
I got one and I have a few issues with it that if I had known I'd have looked for something else, first and most importantly you can't use the SD card to augment internal storage, meaning you can't install apps and associated data to it. I installed a 256Gig card and you can only format and set it up for portable storage. I have a large collection of audio books through audible, and I ran out of storage downloading my books, since I never know what book I might want to listen to next I like to have them all. on my old phone that was easy, settings, apps, audible, storage, use sd storage option. on this one that's not available. second there is no way to get rid of bloatware, they have it locked down. I've used ADB to clean up other android devices without any problems, on this one apparently its not possible according to all the forums i've been reading. so not only can you not use a SD card for system storage there's no way to delete all the useless preinstalled crap to free up additional space. best you can do is uninstall the updates to a handful of apps and disable them. But a large % of them you don't have that option. needless to say I'm not real happy with it.
@@factsmatter1172 old phone was an Alcatel A574BL and ADB stands for Android Debug Bridge, its a great means for de-crapping all that built in bloatware phones come with, and I've used it on my old phone and also on my Samsung tablets. but the TCL A3 is locked down hard, best you can do is uninstall updates and disable some apps. the only positive thing I can say about it is that it definitely performs better than the old one. any HD videos playing from the SD card used to be somewhat jerky lots of dropped frames, the A3 so far plays them flawlessly.
Hey, probably too late but just wanted to inform you or anyone else running into this problem that you can use ADB shell from your PC (many tutorials exist) to turn your SD card into "adaptable storage" (lookup ADB Adaptable Storage) This means after a single shell command, the SD card will work with the device's Internal Storage and you'll be able to move apps between them. I've tested it and yes, it also encrypts the SD card so only your device will know how to access it, so this storage will also be secure.
Now, if I can just figure out how to active the phone with the annual plan I bought through eBay... $50 for the TCLA3 phone, car and home charger, cheapie ear pods and 1500 mins/data. I thought the plan was automatic at sign on but appears not to be. I will be back to this video after I get a connection to Tracfone as the host.
To All that dont know this..A cell phone salesman at wal mart told me a few years ago about this.. If on the BOX sez LTE- T means the phone does not use Verison towers. Think this phone would not get bars that you need, so calls dont get dropped in the middle of conversations..I would not recommend this phone for that reason alone.A good Phone that uses Verison towers will say on the box LTE-V...the V stands for Verison towers...
Any new Tracfone will be on Verizon service. They used to use the three major carriers but late 2021 Verizon bought TF. They'll honor Tracfone's existing coverage and contracts with T-Mo & AT&T but not sell new ones. Look at the coverage map on the box: if it's red it uses Verizon, if it's pink then it's T-Mobile and if it's blue it's AT&T.

It has bloatware... Its gallery is utter cr-p which sells user data to China let alone that it doesn't even work properly . It got removed from play store.. its newer file manager is also doing this and it's a big issue
My phone stopped working for no reason and it kept restarting and rebooting. It got stuck on the reboot screen and it wouldn't even do anything so i ordered the TCL A3 on walmart for only $42 and will get it Dec 6 and i hope the speakers are better and the phone is faster. I probably wont keep it might get the samsung galaxy J3 orbit phone, but i will keep this phone for now until i get the samsung J3 orbit. Right now i'm using an old samsung s4 from 2013 and the speaker is terrible not very loud

I got this phone thru straight talk around $40 price range, I do not recommend. It was easily one of the worst low budget smart phones that I've owned, and I've had many low quality phones by Alcatel. I would avoid TCL phones when I can. There are just better phones at this price range and for a few dollars more you can get an iPhone SE or a Samsung Galaxy, or even a Moto G series.
Anyone having issues with: 1. Brightness? I have Adaptive off and sleep off and it's still dimming. 2. I have Technics az60 (insane sound) and this phone is the only phone that I can't pair them with.

I really hate all camera phones they stretch and distort faces and there are many online studies about this and posts by plastic surgeons and photographers and they show pictures of the same exact person taken the same time with different camera lenses. The first one the person looks great and normal taken with a professional camera and high mm lens, the last one is taken with a typical smart phone wide angle lens and the same person's face is stretched out and distorted and so their ears disappear too. Professional portrait photographers don't use wide angle lenses, they use long telephoto lenses and they don't photograph faces close up they take the pictures at a distance and then they zoom in. I would rather have my picture taken with a somewhat lesser quality image that doesn't distort my face.

This phone is terrible! It's slow doesn't respond, takes forever to open apps or load anything off the internet. Reception is the worst! Shows 4 out of 5 bars for 4g but you would think this was 1995 with how slow it loads. You have to press multiple time for it to register. Most of the time letters on the keyboard don't work. I have two letters that require me to smash the screen to register even tho it is a digital keyboard. There is virtually no space on this phone as half of the 32 gigs is used up by the OS. I can't wait to break this home in a million pieces and mail it back to TCL. Such a piece of crap, it should be sold.for $15 bucks cause thats bout all it's worth.

iPhone doesn’t work well with android a lot. If it’s both old iPhone and old android it will be hard. Only the new android and the newest iPhone kinda work.
The battery in these starts to fail, rather quickly. I didn't pay for it, so it's not earth shaking. I've seen it sold on eBay for as little as $39. You can't expect much.

The problem of these TCL A3 and A30 is that they do not have Auto Focus (AF) on their camera. That makes for allways blurry fotos. A flash and AF are a must unless you are fine with allways blurry fotos.

No. You can surf internet with Wi-Fi and play games. No need to activate to do that.

I got one and I have a few issues with it that if I had known I'd have looked for something else, first and most importantly you can't use the SD card to augment internal storage, meaning you can't install apps and associated data to it. I installed a 256Gig card and you can only format and set it up for portable storage. I have a large collection of audio books through audible, and I ran out of storage downloading my books, since I never know what book I might want to listen to next I like to have them all. on my old phone that was easy, settings, apps, audible, storage, use sd storage option. on this one that's not available. second there is no way to get rid of bloatware, they have it locked down. I've used ADB to clean up other android devices without any problems, on this one apparently its not possible according to all the forums i've been reading. so not only can you not use a SD card for system storage there's no way to delete all the useless preinstalled crap to free up additional space. best you can do is uninstall the updates to a handful of apps and disable them. But a large % of them you don't have that option. needless to say I'm not real happy with it.
What was your old phone? Also what is ADB?
@@factsmatter1172 old phone was an Alcatel A574BL and ADB stands for Android Debug Bridge, its a great means for de-crapping all that built in bloatware phones come with, and I've used it on my old phone and also on my Samsung tablets. but the TCL A3 is locked down hard, best you can do is uninstall updates and disable some apps. the only positive thing I can say about it is that it definitely performs better than the old one. any HD videos playing from the SD card used to be somewhat jerky lots of dropped frames, the A3 so far plays them flawlessly.

Hey, probably too late but just wanted to inform you or anyone else running into this problem that you can use ADB shell from your PC (many tutorials exist) to turn your SD card into "adaptable storage" (lookup ADB Adaptable Storage)
This means after a single shell command, the SD card will work with the device's Internal Storage and you'll be able to move apps between them. I've tested it and yes, it also encrypts the SD card so only your device will know how to access it, so this storage will also be secure.

To All that dont know this..A cell phone salesman at wal mart told me a few years ago about this.. If on the BOX sez LTE- T means the phone does not use Verison towers. Think this phone would not get bars that you need, so calls dont get dropped in the middle of conversations..I would not recommend this phone for that reason alone.A good Phone that uses Verison towers will say on the box LTE-V...the V stands for Verison towers...
Any new Tracfone will be on Verizon service. They used to use the three major carriers but late 2021 Verizon bought TF. They'll honor Tracfone's existing coverage and contracts with T-Mo & AT&T but not sell new ones. Look at the coverage map on the box: if it's red it uses Verizon, if it's pink then it's T-Mobile and if it's blue it's AT&T.

It has bloatware... Its gallery is utter cr-p which sells user data to China let alone that it doesn't even work properly . It got removed from play store.. its newer file manager is also doing this and it's a big issue

My phone stopped working for no reason and it kept restarting and rebooting. It got stuck on the reboot screen and it wouldn't even do anything so i ordered the TCL A3 on walmart for only $42 and will get it Dec 6 and i hope the speakers are better and the phone is faster. I probably wont keep it might get the samsung galaxy J3 orbit phone, but i will keep this phone for now until i get the samsung J3 orbit. Right now i'm using an old samsung s4 from 2013 and the speaker is terrible not very loud

I got this phone thru straight talk around $40 price range, I do not recommend. It was easily one of the worst low budget smart phones that I've owned, and I've had many low quality phones by Alcatel. I would avoid TCL phones when I can. There are just better phones at this price range and for a few dollars more you can get an iPhone SE or a Samsung Galaxy, or even a Moto G series.

Walmart Family Mobile is a rip off when sorry company, I purchases sim kit went through the process of getting my number ported 3 days nothing happened screwed me up out of telephone number that I had for 19 years, I wish would have never looked at a Walmart family mobile Sims card kit do not buy, I have pointed my number about four times and 19 years with no problem think twice before you buy their product.

I really hate all camera phones they stretch and distort faces and there are many online studies about this and posts by plastic surgeons and photographers and they show pictures of the same exact person taken the same time with different camera lenses.
The first one the person looks great and normal taken with a professional camera and high mm lens, the last one is taken with a typical smart phone wide angle lens and the same person's face is stretched out and distorted and so their ears disappear too.
Professional portrait photographers don't use wide angle lenses, they use long telephoto lenses and they don't photograph faces close up they take the pictures at a distance and then they zoom in.
I would rather have my picture taken with a somewhat lesser quality image that doesn't distort my face.

No mention of quality of sound on phone calls-except for the speaker-but then no one has anything worth saying, they just want flashing lights to distract them from their own unpleasant thoughts.
This phone is terrible! It's slow doesn't respond, takes forever to open apps or load anything off the internet. Reception is the worst! Shows 4 out of 5 bars for 4g but you would think this was 1995 with how slow it loads. You have to press multiple time for it to register. Most of the time letters on the keyboard don't work. I have two letters that require me to smash the screen to register even tho it is a digital keyboard. There is virtually no space on this phone as half of the 32 gigs is used up by the OS. I can't wait to break this home in a million pieces and mail it back to TCL. Such a piece of crap, it should be sold.for $15 bucks cause thats bout all it's worth.
It's actually really good for the price. I've had mine for a year and a half. I'm happy with it, you can't expect too much given the price.
