changig color of LEDs is VERY IMPORTANT for the riders who have the unit mounted to the helmet - it allows them to look for the mirror and check the volume level in the mirror
I was given a Sena 10 by a buddy about 3 years ago. He said it didn't hold a charge so he bought a new one. I swapped the battery and thought it would last long enough to see if I liked it. Still working great for what I need and I'm not ready to drop $400 on something new. Will probably go with another Sena when I do.....
Just like many other tech examples, the 30K is NOT obsolete but it IS becoming obsolescent. If your 30K is working fine keep running it. But the HK speakers, USB C charging, and hands free voice control are all features that make even the 50 a worthwhile upgrade...
Some riders care about style on the side of their helmets, so Sena is offering any option to those people that want something a bit different than the same old looking BT unit design. If you don't like the feature, can always turn it off in the app.
A 400 bucks intercom? I think that's enough internet for today. All that junk stuff is not "value". The last thing we need is ever increasingly expensive units. Remove the extra stuff and make it 250. Then we are talking. Who are these people spending 800 bucks just to talk in a helmet? This is nothing new. I use older Sena products, this one is poor value. I don't understand the direction company is heading to.

Which is just nuts. I remember good times when they sold 10S for 160$ and that was a good deal. My group still uses the 20S\10S range of models.
Pretty specific to your use case arguments and that’s fine. Sounds like your riding group is still on BT instead of Mesh so those units will still be just fine for y’all to keep using until you need more
I've had a 50S since it came out. My riding buddies recently got 50Ss as well hoping that it would alleviate some of the connection issues we've had. It did to a degree but mesh still doesn't work right so we still use BT connection. For the money I'd expect better, especially since my first battery lasted about 2 years before it wouldn't hold a charge for a normal ride. I ordered a higher capacity battery online and that resolved the issue.
I have the Sena 10C Pro and it's one of the best all in one options i ever purchased. The one thing i don't like is the clamp system, which broke down after i switched it between three helmets. Also, updates and software aren't Senas strongest suit.
Much as I love tech stuff for this new unit my Sena 30K works fine with upgraded Sena HD Speakers. This might sound lame but I prefer the looks of 30K versus any other models. It’s more aggressive shape/style and sits perfectly angle on my helmet. Also I think 30K is the only model that has official Wi-Fi Docking Station which I have too so another reason not needing to upgrade.
We have very different memories of design and style in 2004 than you do. But we sure do miss the days of portable CD players and Nokia / Razr phones. Those were the days ...
@@RevZilla It's that brushed aluminum cap that was on it. Pure mid-2000s design aesthetic. Interchangable is cool, though if Sena doesn't provide design files for it, I doubt anyone's going to 3D print any.

I'm sure I could do a cover for this but it would take a few hours and several test prints. OTOH Sena could easily release the design files for that if they wanted and we'd have way better covers than what almost anyone would come up with independently.
The lights are a bit too much but its a taste thing. But its quite big to be honest. The most important feature is how to connect it with cardo users? I know its possible with Bluetooth connection but mesh is what you really want.
TBH the IP rating was more of a "gee whizz" to me. Having owned and operated several Sena units from the SMH10 series up, and having ridden through many a rain storm (and even a tornado once) and not EVER having a water related issue, I would say "the proof of the pudding is in the eating." The IP rating is nice. Is it necessary? Well, getting the cert DOES make the unit more expensive...
That thing is huge. Your left side of the helmet is going to catch some wind and snap your neck then your buddy on the waves app can call an ambulance.
Sena has a specific line for the cameras called the C (50c, 20C etc). We might see a 60c in the future, but given the flashlights are the front, we doubt it.
That parts just for show and a feature of the LED. But let’s be honest, since it’s a magnetic mount, it’d take you a fraction of the time to take the unit off and stare at it to adjust the volume then put it back, all while leaving the helmet on.
We were intrigued by that too but didn't notice too much of a difference. A bit clearer through the microphone from one rider to the next, but nothing revolutionary. We'd imagine this will improve with each update though so we are looking forward to it as Sena learns and improves the tech.
@@RevZilla Hi. Unfortunately, that is not correct. Mesh 2.0 and Mesh 3.0 uses slightly different technology when communicating making them incompatible with each other. However, the 60S can easily switch between Mesh 2.0 and Mesh 3.0 on the Sena Motorcycles App. Thanks.
that mount is cool, but like some of the lower version of the Cardo , you can t charge when riding, the higher end ones you can. the way that sits in the cradle looks like when the battery is low, you cant charge when riding. that is a requirement if you listen to a lot of music and connected to friends on long rides. I rahter not charge when at a stop ,
Via Bluetooth all the newest units work and we tested that for 200 miles in Wyoming without issue. Otherwise the new Wave system we talk about in this video solves it for every other brand too.
It could be handy for international comms if your cell phone plan has steep int'l rates. But how often are you trying to talk to people in other countries while you're both riding your motorcycles...? Closer to home, if you're riding with buddies and they get a little out of the standard range and you have internet coverage it'll be a seamless way to keep talking, even miles apart, without having to dial them. Just keep your portable battery close by, as I suspect this will drain cell phones quick
Then your phone line is tied up and limited to the conference call as to how many people can join. Wave gives you virtually unlimited entrance and you can still make / receive calls if needed.
According to both Cardo and Sena that won’t work since they are both designed differently. Unlike BT which is able to chat between the brands. However, as mentioned in the video, the new Wave app is a solve for all cross-brand chatting.
@@RevZilla Like you said though, wave / VoIP function isn't unit to unit. It's phone to phone so you have to take your phone AND be in an area that has cell coverage. That already exists. Discord, and can be done with a sub $20 dollar Amazon unit using BT to your phone. This "designed differently" is crap. Maybe as consumers it's our fault because we've let them get away with it but it's like buying a bike that you can only fill at a certain gas station because the tank is "designed differently" and only one nozzle fits or you have to buy a specific brand of wireless router to use your Samsung phone. No one would buy that bike or that phone. And maybe that's what we need to do, get together, quit buying the products and tell Sena, EJEAS, XGP, Cardo, etc that until they get together, sit down and come out with ONE standard that all comms use we're not buying their products. Comm standards exist in practically every other industry from serial to parallel to 802.11 to USB. It's time there's one for mesh where the consumer wins by choosing the unit they want with the features they want at the price they can afford.

I'm somewhat with you, but I bet a big factor in this is the fact that all potential consumers have to operate this thing 1. By feel on the side of their head and 2. Almost always with ranging styles of gloves on. Make it small, make the controls small, big potential for problems.
That's a severe case of "form over function". The flashlight is pretty useless IRL, the LED changing colors for different modes is just for show because you don't see it anyway, and most people probably don't need 2 sets of speakers because they own a single helmet. I'd say get a 20S/evo for less than $200 and you're good. Unless you ride in huge groups and REALLY need that mesh technology to listen to 20 guys trying to talk at the same time.
When I'm paying $400, it better be good looking and not have a plain look. That torch feature is useless in real world.. That led feature is too flashy and could have been made simpler.. I think it's not worth the investment but again need to wait for real world tested reviews on the purpose of this device in first place ..Seamless and stable Communication..
Tbh, the both offer about the same so tends to come down to their warranty programs and brand loyalty with your riding pals. The two brands just go feature for feature every year and match what the other comes out with

I’d take that bet on the 10-year run of “no innovation”. Zoom out on the timeline and 10 years ago talking to 4 other riders was new tech, now you can talk with 24+ with Sena.
@patrickmchugh8039 a ModMic in your helmet costs 1/4 of this, has infinitely better mic quality and noise reduction, connects to your phone and bike every time with no BS, works with any app on your phone like discord to connect with as many people as you can fit on the road with no scratchy connection or line of sight nonsense. Not to mention there's no tumor on the outside of your helmet.

But most people buy these style units or BT only units for the ease of use. It’s not like Sena and Cardo grew to be most of the market share for no reason. It’s also why helmets with comms built in already are big markets, just for the ease of it to a lot of non-discord types out there. I know I prefer discord for everything, but I still ride with my Cardo’s since most people I ride with won’t be bothered with Discord and chat rooms.
How bizarre!! I have a $50 unit from Amazon that I've been using for about 4-5 years now and it has a crystal clear intercom, Bluetooth calls & music while riding, also has flashing LEDs on the side, etc., etc., etc.... I guess Sena assumes that if you have enough disposable income to afford a bike with all the accessories (exhaust, underglow, custom taillight, etc), then you may not mind overpaying a ridiculous amount just for a Bluetooth module. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Have you used one of the top of the line Sena devices? What you think is "Crystal Clear" probably sounds like garbage considering the speakers on these cost more than your whole setup.

Hated the 30 from the first time I tried updating the firmware, absolute trash implementation.
Why does the LED matter while you are riding and presumably have it mounted on your helmet? Seems to me a useless feature.

FWIW - almost every other unit Sena has available is in the mid-$200's and below if you are shopping for that price point.

You can 100% charge the 60s while it’s mounted and being used. The separate USB-C port is designed specifically to be able to charge while being used.

How hard is it to do softwear updats the 50S i got want's a softwear update and it is encreadbly hard to do?
Fairly easy and there are step by step instructions in the box, and video how to’s showing the process.

I guess Sena assumes that if you have enough disposable income to afford a bike with all the accessories (exhaust, underglow, custom taillight, etc), then you may not mind overpaying a ridiculous amount just for a Bluetooth module. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Have you used one of the top of the line Sena devices? What you think is "Crystal Clear" probably sounds like garbage considering the speakers on these cost more than your whole setup.
Save yourself 300 bucks. Just get a good bluetooth headset and discord.
